THIS IS PART 2 OF THE APRIL 14, 2004 BUZZFLASH MAILBAG. CLICK HERE FOR PART 1. Subj: anyone notice the gaff about the PDB? From the transcripts of the press conference tonight, after being asked about the PDB.... BUSH: And I asked for the briefing. And the reason I did is because there had been a lot of threat intelligence from overseas. And so, I -- part of it had to do with the Genoa G-8 conference that I was going to attend. And I asked at that point in time, let's make sure we are paying attention here at home, as well. And that's what triggered the report. cut --------------------------- Umm, anyone else realize that the G8 Conference was in JULY????? Or did he ask for it weeks before the conference and just got it in august instead? :) Someone get a tad confused ya think? Inquiring minds want to know :) Carol T. Subj: the non-911 Commission Dear Buzz, It seems to me that what’s going on with the Commission on Terrorism in the US (note that 911 is not a part of the official title!) is that they are setting up a few scapegoats (Ashcroft, Rice) and focusing on the wars between the various internal agencies, while totally avoiding any substantive questions about the actual events of 911. It’s a smokescreen floor show to deflect from real questions being asked or answered. We’ll never find out why the Saudi’s were allowed an escort out of the country when all commercial flights were grounded. We’ll never even get to NORAD questions. We’ll never even touch on Bush’s strange behavior the morning of the attacks, or any of the many other troubling questions that don’t add up. This is all a ruse, a side-show meant to exorcise ghosts without actually confronting them. All we’re going to find out is that the FBI, CIA and White House didn’t communicate very well, and we’ve all known this about them for YEARS! They’re just beating the same dead horse with a much bigger stick. This is disgusting. I imagine Kristen Breitwieser and the rest of the survivors are thoroughly appalled, since this is their only chance to get at the truth. Instead of getting at the truth, we’re all getting a carefully crafted charade. No wonder Bush finally relented to holding a commission after he saw to it that it was structured in such a way as to avoid the actual events of 911 entirely. We already know what the findings of the commission will be, and we don’t need to wait until June for the report. It goes something like this: “While the commission has determined that nothing could have been done to prevent the attacks on September 11, we find that the current capabilities of our intelligence agencies to detect or prevent domestic terrorism are severely flawed by a lack of continuity and comprehensive action. We propose the establishment of a new agency, the Department of Domestic Terrorism, to ensure proper coordination of efforts between the all internal agencies and the White House.” Too bad that doesn’t answer the questions most Americans really have specifically about 911. And as Janet Reno expressed today, allowing a John Ashcroft or a Tom Ridge to use something like the Department of Domestic Terrorism in tandem with the Patriot Act would be for all Americans to hand over whatever remaining individual rights they might have had. Richard M. Subj: Condi Rice's testimonial lies (sliced and diced) Hi BuzzFlash, Here's the most comprehensive analysis/review you will find on Rice's testimony to-date: http://www.compassiongate.com/policy/cc300.htm 42 misleading or false statements...with groaners such as: We were at battle stations. [later] We were NOT on a war footing. Regards, TR Subj: Your Headline Calling Ashcroft A Scumbag I want to protest your headline calling Attorney General John Ashcroft a scumbag. I have gotten much use and pleasure from condoms during my life (once I figure out which way they go on), whereas I can't think of a single good thing to say about Ashcroft. Because condoms cannot complain, I must do so on their behalf. It is an insult to scumbags to compare them to John Ashcroft, and I hope you will show more sensitivity to these fine contraceptive devices in the future. Jon Krampner [BuzzFlash Note: Please extend our apologies to Trojan family of fine products.] BuzzFlash, The original PDB of August 6, 2001 was 11 1/2 printed pages long, as opposed to the usual 2 or 3 pages. The PDB as given to the 9/11 commission is 1 1/2 pages long. Which begs the obvious question---where the hell is the other 10 pages of that PDB, and WHAT is in there? And how does Bush think he's going to get away with giving the 9/11 commission a radically redacted version of the PDB of August 6, 2001, and what the hell is he trying to hide? Ken Subj: attack was 'not entirely unexpected NPR interview on 9-11 confirmed attack was ‘not entirely unexpected.'

country that HIDES things is a country that is afraid of getting caught." Donald K. Subj: men who love bush April 13, 2004 In reference to the letter by Shirley of St. Louis concerning men that hated Clinton but love Bush was correct to a point. It is white men, not men of color that fall into that category. Black men in particular know that the Bush administration and the republican party do not represent their best interest. You would have to be awfully stupid or naive not to believe that the republican party, by their own action and admission, represents primarily the wealthiest Americans. Many white men, blinded by their prejudices and bigotry, continue to vote against their best interest falsely thinking that they are hurting minorities. They need to wake up and realize that it is not about skin color, but rather the size of your bank account that matters the most. In other words, it's where you fit into the economic scheme of things and not your ethnicity. James Epperson "...Some have said we must not act until the threat is imminent. Since when have terrorists and tyrants announced their intentions, politely putting us on notice before they strike?..." Bush's State of the Union Address, January 2003 (http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/01/20030128-19.html) --------------------------------- "...But I can also tell you that there was nothing in this memo [PDB, August 6, 2001] that suggested that an attack was coming on New York or Washington, D.C. There was nothing in this memo as to time, place, how or where. This was not a threat report to the president or a threat report to me..." "...you heard the character of the threat report we were getting: something very, very big is going to happen. How do you act on "something very, very big is going to happen" beyond trying to put people on alert? Most of the threat reporting was abroad..." Rice's comments to 9/11 Commission, April 2004 (http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/04/08/rice.transcript/) Liz T. Subj: Ltr to Ed on Limbaugh Honor the man. Rush Limbaugh called for 20 years imprisonment for drug users, so put him in prison for 20 years. Who knows in 20 years he may think of something worth hearing. I know Rush would demand it if it was you instead of him. Isn’t it interesting none of his idiot listeners want them to do what Rush said should be done? I say honor the man’s words and imprison him. Clancy Buzz, Tim Roemer said the commission is going to work hard to make sure that the investigation doesn't turn into a blame game or finger pointing session. No one will be held accountable. The testimony of both Rice and Ashcroft sounded like little more than finger pointing at the Clinton administration and as a commercial trying to sell everyone on the virtues of the Patriot Act. They haven't missed an opportunity to repeat their sell job, no doubt because of such widespread public disapproval for the law and all the resolutions denouncing it. Also, no doubt because they want to bully or shame Congress into doing away with the sunset provisions in the law, and even extend the law to grant even more unconstitutional powers to government and law enforcement. It's coming. Watch for it. Ashcroft stated that, had he known pre-9/11 what he knows now, he would have deployed every measure at his disposal to prevent it, done everything before 9/11 that he has done after 9/11, regardless of public opinion. Besides the issue that this would have been illegal, since laws were on the books preventing all the unconstitutional snooping and detentions without due process, this proves that his attitude, at least now, is the law be damned. THAT should be considered now when wondering what they've been up to. It doesn't square with the speeches Bush is giving where he states that in order to be given sovereignty and hand over power, Iraq must live under the rule of law. Mustn't we practice what we preach to others? The commission came out of the gate with the intention that no one will be held accountable for their devastating and tragic failures pre-9/11. They're not asking the questions that get to the heart of the matter and demand an accounting. They're afraid of where these questions will lead. They won't allow the thought to be entertained. The rest is just window dressing. BuzzFlash Reader #11,325,763 Subj: Mass Graves in Iraq Buzz, After the WMD excuse for illegally invading Iraq failed, GooberW & cabal used Saddam's "mass graves" as justification to demonize him and invade. On Tuesday, 4/13, on DemocracyNow.org, Aaron Glantz of Free Speech Radio reported from Iraq that the US military has killed so many Iraqis in Fallujah that Iraqis are digging mass graves to bury the dead. So who is the devil now? T Quigly
Subj: The Pattern of Speech Hi Gang! I've been watching the parade of testimony on C-Span in front of the 9-11 Commission and have noted a very unique trend. Those with everything to lose have resorted to protracted statements that only dance around the actual questioning, become agitated when they are pinned down, and inevitably blame the Clinton Administration for the intelligence failures. Those with nothing to hide answer precisely and to the point, pin the questioner down with an answer that flusters them, and state, factually, that all the intelligence that was needed by the Shrub Administration was presented to them during the Transition. Lets be real about this. With the intelligence at hand, with the technology at hand, with the people-power at hand, how can eight months be an excuse for failing the American People this horribly? It wasn't a bureaucratic wall that allowed 9-11 to occur. It wasn't inadequate resources that allowed 9-11 to occur. It wasn't the Clinton Administration that allowed 9-11 to occur. It was the ignorance, arrogance, and Cold War naiveté of the Shrub Administration. Jerry Peurala P.S. If John McCain happens to read this, I certainly hope your wife is well and wish her a speedy and total recovery. Subj: Mailbag 4/13/04 Message to Linda....thank you so much for the kind thoughts about my granddaughter. I am trying to be there but not be in the way...She has to get this trip, or whatever she decides to do, out of her way, then maybe she can heal. I know how it feels to lose a relative, or friend in the war. I also am so sorry for the Witmer family...with the three daughters in the service (one just died). They care not a whit in DC...so long as they don't have to put their sorry asses in danger, or the asses of their children who are so much better than ours. When my brother died in VietNam...they were going to send the other brother...I had three. And, had it not been for the forcefulness of a brother-in-law and the other brother who did his time in Libya....they would have! It was hard, but they got him out of it. The first thing the Military asks, is, is it the last living daughter...or son? It that cold, folks? That is what they asked us...and they had to admit that we had another brother in Libya, in the Air Force...and they tried, oh, how they did...but, I think the brother-in-law laid the law down...and they pulled back...but, they sent him into Laos! Politicians...especially the likes of the ones in the Vietnam era...and this one, much alike, are cold, unfeeling vermin! I hope the Witmers stand their ground and will not let up! I missed the puppets press conference...I was sure it was going to be tonight...but I looked all over TV for it, and he was not there...I am hoping to see it later on C-span. God bless Buzz....I am not sure what I would have done without all these folks to go to every day....this mailbag and the entire website is great...Thank God it is growing, in spite of my lack of donations... After taxes it will be better, I think, although the tax cut we are finding, is not a tax cut. I was watching the head of Pfizer (the drug co.) the other day on c-spans Wash.Journal...and he was too cool....telling everyone how important the research is and how many lives it will save..'til someone called in and asked him, if he could divulge how much his yearly salary is. And he said, "I am paid very well...I make in excess of 2 million a year!" Ain't that grand, and we wonder why every other commercial on television is about another drug! Love to all...and Bless Buzz...and all of you who might have said prayers for my grandaughter...she is well, but her mind will take a while...There is a lot of bitterness and fear...all the bad emotions in her. Now, she has lost a dear friend....but, she is tough, she will make it!!! Shirley..........St.Louis Subj: Ashcroft's Excuse So Ashcroft says that too much government regulation is to blame for 9-11. This is indicative of the entire Bush administration--neither is the statement consistent nor logical, given that Ashcroft is the most enthusiastic cheerleader for the Patriot Act, Son of Patriot, Homeland Security, TIPS, etc. How much more regulated can you get? His testimony, it appeared to me, to be nothing more than a sound-bite opportunity for the media whores to jump on. It is a shame that the average sleeping American will never make the mental leap from what he said, and what he does. A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: "not my fault"...C Rice Dear BuzzFlash, In reading the testimony of Dr Rice, I am reminded of the fourth graders that I used to teach. They would say: "It's not my fault, I didn't know..." or "...nobody told me..." or "If you're not nice to me, I won't invite you to my party..." Maybe, 9/11 was the party the administration wanted to occur. Maybe this was the catastrophe, "new Pearl Harbor"-like event, that PNAC referred to and wished for in the original writings on its web-site. Maybe this was the issue they felt could unite this country into a support of nation building in Iraq and that part of the world. Maybe then they could invade and change the regime that was going to be entering the free market with their oil because the UN sanctions, enforced by the US, would be coming to an end. This was the same regime that we, earlier, supported in its murderous behavior. This was the regime we supplied with the chemicals and materials needed for its horrifying and torturous activities. Why then, would Bush or Rice, or anyone else in this group of "public servants" further explore a PDB that might give indication of a coming attack? It was not in their best interest to prevent anything that could, somehow, be a catalyst for moving forward on their design for empire. I am currently reading a book entitled "The New Pearl Harbor Disturbing Questions about the Bush Administration and 9/11". It was authored by David Ray Griffin and is published by Olive Branch Press. It was released last month, and is the book that the Families of 9/11 recommended to the journalists covering the press conference immediately preceding the 9/11 independent commission's public hearings now ongoing. This book may raise more questions than it answers. I am nearly at midway through, and have had more than a couple of "Ah hah" moments. I am certain that this book will stir thinking people to ask their own questions. Sincerely, Leslie in Illinois Financial Times (UK) 08/04/04: Dealing with Saddam's regime: how fortunes were made in Iraq through the UN's oil-for-food programme This is an investigative report, apparently pre-empting the current UN investigation into oil-for-food allegations, by the FT and the Italian business daily 'Il Sole 24 Ore'. The core allegation seems to be that, at least in the case they've investigated, post-1999 oil allocations from the Iraqi Government were acquired through the services of a government-recommended agent, Al Wasel & Babel, which they claim was a front company for the GoI. The GoI thus received substantial agents' commissions. It's unclear whether this would be in breach of UNSCR 986, which insists upon "payment of the full amount of each purchase of Iraqi petroleum into the escrow account" (OP 1(b)). They also claim that oil was sold by the GoI well below market price, the shortfall being made up in such commissions. Again, this looks ostensibly like it is in contravention of OP 1(a) of UNSCR 986, which requires the buyer's application to the sanctions committee to include "details of the purchase price at fair market value, the export route, the opening of a letter of credit payable to the escrow account to be established by the Secretary-General for the purposes of this resolution, and of any other directly related financial or other essential transaction" (http://ods-dds-ny.un.org/doc/UNDOC/GEN/N95/109/88/PDF/N9510988.pdf?OpenElement) Nor is it at all clear (or discussed by the FT) whether GoI revenues from such kickbacks were substantial compared to revenues from non-OFF oil trading and smuggling. See Drew Hamre's much more comprehensive post at http://www.casi.org.uk/analysis/2004/msg00059.html A vote for Bush is a vote for the Draft A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Bush was REPEATEDLY warned, this should blow the lid off! Panel Says
George W Bush Saw Repeated Warnings Ok, we knew that George Bush and Condi Rice were lying, but now its clear we had no idea how much they were lying. This is just incredible, this is smoking.. No wonder they feared any investigation, these documents are so damning its almost beyond words ..... "The system was blinking red," Tenet told the commission in private testimony. Apparently the August 6th PDB was just the tip of the iceberg, after " the president had seen a stream of alarming reports on al Qaeda's intentions". Also, Dick Cheney and the rest of the Bush security staff had been given the same repeated warnings. Some of the classified report titles included ... "Bin Laden planning multiple operations," "Bin Laden network's plans advancing" "Bin Laden threats are real." And it gets even worse, the warnings president George W. Bush received said -- "The intelligence included reports of a hostage plot against Americans. It noted that operatives might choose to hijack an aircraft or storm a U.S. embassy." There is more in the news article, but even with this new information it's apparent we are just striking the surface, there are a lot more documents that can and should be released. This was the worst attack in US history, Americans deserve answers... Just like everyone else, president George W Bush should provide answers in public and under oath before the 911 commission. Walker Subj: Bush's Press Conference Hey Buzzers, What a disaster! He was unable to think of a single mistake he'd made after 9-11. Any statesman, or grownup for that matter should be able to examine past actions and determine a more useful course. How can a person learn from mistakes if they won't admit them? Also, his oft made remark about how we learned on 9-11 that "the oceans couldn't protect us". Heck, the Indians learned in 1492 that the oceans wouldn't protect them from Columbus. Then there was the Revolutionary War and more recently the invention of Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles. George W. Bush, Welcome to the Flat Earth Society! Leslie Crabtree Subj: NY Times - Marines in Fallujah Still Face and Return Relentless Fire http://www.nytimes.com/2004/04/14/international/middleeast/14FALL.html "Marines like to be on the offensive," said Staff Sgt. Steve Marcil. "We're not like the Army. Our job is to move." The marines are not moving anywhere right now. Many are squatting in Iraqi homes they have cleared, oiling their weapons on Oriental carpets sprinkled with glass. Many Fallujah families hastily left the city right before the siege began. In one vacated house, a group of exhausted marines lay on a poster of Mecca. Meanwhile, the resistance seems as dogged as ever. On Sunday, a Marine tank fired 18 rounds into a house a suspected insurgent was firing from, said Jeremiah Day, a combat engineer from Minnetonka, Minn. "And afterwards the guy was still standing," Corporal Day said. "It was like Scarface or something." That same day, Brent Bourgeois, a 20-year-old lance corporal from Kenner, La., said he had seen an American helicopter fire a missile at a man with a slingshot. "Crazy, huh?" the corporal said. A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: How I Saw It Bush addressed the country Tuesday evening... Or did he? What a sorry excuse for preempting prime time television scheduling! The man is totally dysfunctional. He sounded like a broken record player, repeating the same old tired cliches. It wasn't a speech to inform and comfort the people of the US. It was a desperate attempt to grab the spotlight to bump his sagging polls. Fielding questions from reporters, Bush was bull headed about giving a straight answer. Or maybe he is incapable of giving straight answers. I never heard him answer one question as the question was presented. Bush responded to questions by rambling. His ramblings were far-removed from the questions. As he randomly reverted to his preprogrammed statements, it was abundantly clear that Bush had no thought linkage whatsoever. When asked direct questions, it was obvious that he grasped at straws and gave fragmented [broken linkage] answers. Bush reminded me of a frazzled, hung over drunk making (no sense) off the subject excuses to his wife. That's how I saw it. I'll bet the media saw a different address and press conference! ~ Cathy Subj: ANOTHER PATHETIC PERFORMANCE FROM THE VILLAGE IDIOT Dear BuzzFlash Yes, it was obvious that the man who held a press conference last night, was living up to his nickname - the village idiot. He was continuously rambling, could not answer a direct question, did not have the intelligence to even sound like a leader of the most powerful nation in the world! He got many opportunities (and did not use it) to apologize to the nation for taking it into an ill planned, unnecessary war, which has taken a turn for the worse, and our kids are out there dying in large numbers, and could not even act like a real man and admit to mistakes that he and his incompetent administration have made. What a pathetic performance! A BuzzFlash Reader We heard David Gregory refer to the bush press conference as very scripted.......is the rest of the media trying to hide something from us? Did he have questions in advance with prepared questions? If so why is the media pretending it is real? Matt, Pete and Bernie Subj: Find Out Soon It certainly was reassuring to hear that President Bush hopes to "find out soon" who he will be handing power to in Iraq in 76 days. I'm sure those free elections in Iraq in Jan 2005 will be every bit as real and meaningful as this transfer of power to a "government-to-be-named-later." Albert Clark, NY Subj: Deficits Well, so much for Bush's incessant TV ad campaign against Senator Kerry, which maliciously portrays the Senator as being a candidate who cannot wait to raise our taxes. The American people are speaking up. In a recent poll, it was revealed that 61% of the American people would prefer to have our national budget balanced and to have our deficit erased, as Bill Clinton did in the late 1990's. This is a golden opportunity to be seized by Senator Kerry. People seem to realize that the Bush/Rove tax cuts for the upper 5% strategy is backfiring, and has resulted in our nation running up gargantuan deficits. Yet, we are not supposed to talk about the cost of the war in Iraq, and we are just supposed to sit back and watch as the deficit balloons. Well, fortunately, people are just not that stupid. they have an innate sense that this ideological excess by the Republicans is hurting us, and hurting us deeply. Kerry needs to pounce on this issue immediately. Donald P. Russo, Bethlehem, Pa. Subj: The Press Performance Buzz: Did you notice how the resident casually tossed out the phrase "My administration's Mideast reorganization initiative"? This is the first clear description of PNAC he's ever spoken to the public. He followed it with his belief that it's his responsibility to remake the world. I think he has finally gone over the edge and the messianic complex is in full bloom. Rita Weinstein Subj: "News Conference" Dear Friends: Your editorial has it right: that was no "news conference" --the President did not answer one question! He rambled on and on , using even the same sentences, repeating himself for an hour! When you read this morning's reports, the journalists do not dare calling a spade a spade and telling the world: NO ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS! Alterman in THE NATION has an article about that. How can anyone vote for Bush? Gus Pohlig Subj: ONLY TWO QUESTIONS I NEED ANSWERED & THEN THEY NEED TO EXPLAIN IT! There are only two questions which The 911 Commission needs to ask at this time and THIS administration needs to answer: 1. After receiving the PDB of August 6, 2001, (following the briefings from the Clinton administration during the transition, and all the other briefings before this date), why were there no alerts given to the Air National Guard (NORAD or any of the military air services) whose job it is to protect our skies, putting them on higher alert status? 2. Why were there no Air National Guard (or any other military) planes flying (normally there are hundreds up flying and training around the nation) or ordered up that day to protect America's skies? How could one, let alone three other planes, off course and failing to respond to commands go unchallenged for over 25 minutes? (A total of 1 hour and 45 minutes from the first notice of hijacking to the final plane "crashing" in Pennsylvania, plenty of time for even planes from the western states, to get there in time). In the previous eight months, before September 11, 2001, military planes intercepted planes which had "gone off course or had other suspicious problems" sixty-six times. The report by CNN of golfer Payne Stewart's plane: "An Air Force spokesman says two U.S. Air Force F-15s from Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, intercepted the plane shortly after it lost contact with aircraft controllers, and followed it to Missouri.............Over Missouri, four F-16s from an Air National Guard unit based in Fargo, North Dakota, took over the escort mission, and stayed with the plane until it crashed. The Air Force says additional F-16s were also scrambled from the Oklahoma Air National Guard unit in Tulsa, but were not used because the Fargo planes arrived first." All this for one small executive jet off course. And yet, according to the government, not one military plane was able to get up on September 11, 2001 and escort all of these errant planes, in the twenty-five minutes before the first plane slammed into the WTC tower and the almost two hours until the last plane "crashed" into the ground! Our Intelligence services had "chatter or warnings" (whatever you want to call it), and informed the President and his Administration in their briefings during these months preceding the attacks. On September 11, 2001, one plane, flight #11 notified it's home office at 8:21 that "there has been stabbings, one passenger's throat has been cut and "they" have gotten into the cockpit". It's impact on the WTC #1 Tower is at 8:46. Why was it allowed to fly unchallenged for 25 minutes after it's hijacking? There were three other planes which were known to be hijacked and not one of our military planes were sent up in time, or flew above 23.9% of their top speed, to intercept any of these four planes which were known to be hijacked for 25 to 32 minutes. This is from the Otis Air National Guard, in Falmouth, Massachuesetts102nd Fighter Wing's mission statement of September 11, 2001. "Our aircraft and their crews are on continuous 24-hour, 365-day alert to guard our skies. The 102nd Fighter Wing's area of responsibility includes over 500,000 square miles, 90 million people, and the major industrial centers of Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C." From Otis to the World Trade Center is a 10 to 12 minute flight. These are the only questions I want answered now. After those have been answered, then it is time for this administration to answer how this happened! And why! To say that we did not have warnings, specific enough to take action to protect America, is an outright lie, and any thinking person knows it. If the news tells me that there are murderers, dangerous felons who have escaped from prison and they are heading my way, I will lock my doors, get out the guns and bring the dogs into the house.....I will do everything I can think of to protect my family. Good God, these people get paid to protect America and they can't do what any reasonable person would do?! Susan Strouss Dear BuzzFlash: Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thanks to your archives, especially the perspectives, I was able to respond to a dear, terribly misguided Republican friend on George Bush's record. It sure helps having facts rather than blather. I don't know if her mind will be changed, but it made me feel good knowing I have this resource to refute all the stupid neo-con spin. Sincerely, Marsha
