Subj: "Slime Tsunami"

The 100 billion-dollar Bush "Slime Tsunami" is poised to descend on John Kerry. It will be, says the Bush Campaign, an attempt to "define" the differences between the two candidates. That shouldn't be too hard:

One has carried out a deliberate, comprehensive campaign of economic, environmental and foreign policy devastation and destabilization.

One has engaged in the apparently calculated fabrication of an immediate threat to justify the first unprovoked invasion and occupation of another country by the United States.

One has allowed another occupied country, Afghanistan, to become the world's leading producer of opium and heroin.

One has allowed, if not condoned, the exposure of a covert CIA operative by members of his administration for petty political revenge.

One has adopted economic policies that took the United States from 4 consecutive years of surplus to the largest deficit in US history.

One presided over a 2000 point fall in the stock market, before 9/11, and now boasts of a "recovery" with the market still 1000 points lower than the day he took office.

One has made the country millions of jobs poorer as the result of his " stewardship." An accomplishment not seen since the Great Depression.

One has sponsored laws that deprive Americans of basic freedoms under the guise of "protecting" such freedoms.

One, in short, has richly earned impeachment, not re-election, for the only reason impeachment was ever conceived: to protect the Republic from a reckless Executive. And one is the man who should replace him.

Subj: HalliTroopers® 'R' US

Hi BuzzFlash,

While reading your link to MercuryNews.com about the US coup in Haiti about the 'Steele Foundation', I came across this one on the same page, http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/8074989.htm , hinting at the surge of American/Anglo private armies that seem to be popping up everywhere. Who are these guys? Were they working for Aristide...or Bush? How many other countries are they operating in? This is a story that is going to get bigger, I think.

These mercenaries work for a myriad of international security companies and are mainly ex-US and British 'Specials'. They are not restricted by Geneva Conventions and have obvious ties to the both the Military/Industrial complex and corporate giants like Halliburton/Bechtal/Brown&Root. Apparently they are operating freely in Pakistan, Iraq, and the oil rich states of the old Soviet Union. How long before some petroleum-gorged CEO looks around the boardroom and says 'Who will rid me of this meddlesome Prime Minister?' and whole countries are taken. Maybe it's happened already. Disneykastan, anyone?

I joked about this on DeadBrain (http://deadbrain.com/news/article_2004_02_17_5455.php) last month, but maybe 'HalliTroopers®' aren't so funny after all. The 'Steele Foundation' warriors do have a logo. They are a 'Global Security' company that offer services to nervous execs and corporations. Check out an example of their scary brave new world at http://www.steelefoundation.com/iraq/. And these guys are only one of the dozens of overt, and who knows how many covert groups operating worldwide.

Do you think Diane Sawyer will do an expose on this?

Stay tuned...

Subj: What could Bush's $2000 Lunch Buy?

Greetings to all BuzzFlashers, 3/1/04

I read today about Bush's plan for an intensive week of fundraising trips around the country (what else is there for him to do?). I don't have the list of cities he will visit this week, but I urge everyone to check his schedule and be ready to protest if he is in your vicinity. Last Thursday 2/26, Bush made a quick stop in Louisville KY, for a $2000 a plate lunch and took about $1million dollars from our community. People are getting sick of this, especially with the major cuts facing all schools and other institutions. About 1000 people joined the Louisville protest and we got good coverage in the Louisville Courier-Journal and on NPR. We focused on economic themes related to Bush's war and asked what the $2000 lunch ticket could buy. Add to this list. Send the message to Bush--NO MORE FUND RAISERS.

************************************

WHAT COULD BUSH'S $2000 LUNCH BUY?

A Habitat House costs about $46,000. At $2000 for each lunch on Feb. 26, it would take only 23 plates of food to cover the entire cost of a home for a family.

$2000 is about the amount a family gets in food stamps for A YEAR.

$2000 would purchase three computers for Jefferson County Public School students.

$2000 would cover 20 $100 trips to Kroger for family groceries.

Subj: Is Aristide Telling the Truth?

Do you notice how every time an individual accuses the Bush gang (not an Administration) of doing something that undermines democracy, they are quick to deny their role in it?

I don't know about the rest of you BuzzFlash readers, but my gut instinct tells me that Aristide is telling the truth when he says he was kidnapped by American troops and taken out of the country, just so Bush could replace him with a dictator (like Saddam) and lay a foundation for invading Cuba. The gang will do it under the guise of "liberating" and "bringing democracy". Haiti already had democracy when Aristide was ELECTED. Hello? Does anyone see a pattern here?

Bush can't justify going to war with Iraq - so he needs another invasion of a defenseless country to divert our attention.

Bush can't explain the economy, three million jobs lost or the deficit - so he plans to attack Cuba.

Bush can't explain why Americans should vote for him - so he has Karl Rove create distractions away from what everyone is discovering to be the truth.

And does anyone notice how Bush is attacking countries and nations where the leaders and the majority of its citizens are people of color/ethnicity/religion? (Afghanistan, Iraq and now Haiti) while preaching democracy abroad and allowing the neo-conservatives with loyalties to Israel determine his foreign policy?

All of this to say: Is Aristide telling the truth? Considering the track record of GeeDubya, I think he is, and all nations have been warned...

Ridge Touts Bush's "Lightning Speed" on Making Homeland Security Cabinet-Level Position; Fails to Mention Bush Opposed Its Creation

Lightning Speed: On the first anniversary of the Department of Homeland Security, Secretary Tom Ridge said that Bush "exercised strong leadership, the right leadership, when he along with Congress moved at lightning speed by Washington standards to make homeland security a new cabinet department." [Tom Ridge, 3/2/04]

Reality Check: Bush Opposed Making Homeland Security Cabinet Level Position.

White House Originally Stated That a New Department Was "Just Not Necessary."

- Then White House press secretary Ari Fleischer stated, "[T]he president has suggested to members of Congress that they do not need to make this a statutory post, that [Ridge] does not need Cabinet rank, for example, there does not need to be a Cabinet-level Office of Homeland Security." [White House Press Briefing, 10/24/01]

Ridge Said He Would Recommend Bush Veto Homeland Security Legislation.

- During testimony on Capitol Hill, Homeland Security Adviser Tom Ridge was asked to comment on passing legislation that would make his Homeland Security position permanent. "I don't think you are accountable directly and specifically to the president if you are a creature of statute, because your accountability goes as much or more to the Hill as it does to the president. So I'd probably recommend that he veto it," Ridge said. [National Journal, 6/5/02]

Subj: In case you missed this ....

Alan Fram of the Associated Press reports how the White House would appear to be preparing both for reelection -- and for a spate of staff departures.

"President Bush is making an unprecedented request to use up to $1 million budgeted for a possible presidential transition to train top officials who would join his administration if he should win a second term."

It's apparently "the first time a president has sought to use public transition funds to prepare officials to enter a re-elected administration," Fram writes. "Democrats and experts on presidential transitions say the funds should not be used when a sitting president is re-elected."

Subj: Lincoln and Bush

Hi, Buzz!!

Since the Republicans are so fond of calling themselves the "party of Lincoln," I thought I'd run a comparison past you.

In Chapter 58 (starting on P.646) of Carl Sandburg's biography of Lincoln, "Abraham Lincoln: The Prairie Years and the War Years" (one volume, published by Galahad Books, NY), the author describes a secret meeting in early 1865 between Lincoln and representatives of the Confederate government. The subject was the possibility of a negotiated end to the Civil War. Nothing came of the meeting. The Confederates insisted on independence; Lincoln insisted on Union and emancipation. When news of the meeting got out - as such news tends to do - there was an uproar in Congress. Members suspected Lincoln of selling out the Union cause, and demanded to see the records of the meeting. Lincoln not only released every scrap of paper having anything to do with the meeting, but sent an aide with it, who read the entire collection to the assembled House of Representatives. As it became clear that Lincoln had stood fast for Union and emancipation, a witness wrote that there was " an instant and irrepressible storm of applause." No one ever again accused Lincoln of selling out the United States of America.

I believe we know what would have happened if George Bush, rather than Lincoln, had held that meeting; indeed, we are seeing it every day. He has stonewalled the 9/11 commission. His Vice President has refused to allow Congress to see records of his meetings on energy policy. Mr. Bush is doing his best to keep us from finding out what he was really doing in the early 70s when he was supposed to be in the National Guard.

George Bush is certainly a member of the Republican party. But he is certainly NOT a member of the "party of Lincoln."

Keep it up, Buzz!! Our country needs you!

I don’t know if you take suggestions but this caught my eye..

From:

http://abcnews.go.com/wire/Politics/ap20040302_1782.html

"If the Democratic policies had been pursued over the last two or three years, the kind of tax increases that both Kerry and Edwards have talked about, we would not have had the kind of job growth that we've had," Cheney said.

NO KIDDING, we might have a GOOD amount of job growth instead.

Subj: Did you see NBC Nightly News tonight?

Maybe you could link to Jim Jim Miklaszewski story about how the White house and NSC put the kibosh on attacking some real terrorists -- three times!!!!!!! -- because they didn't want to distract from the march to war in Iraq. Today, 143 people were killed in Iraq most likely by the terrorist we let slip away, because we had our eyes on "liberating Iraq."

Pretty horrible irony and ineptness here; I don't think the country realizes just how incompetent our 'war president' is.

Hope you post it. And thanks for being such a great site.

Subj: Guilty pleasures past turn into unsettling current reality

Back in the late 90's my guilty pleasure TV show was a remake of a foreign film called "La Femme Nikita." I remember one line, from a character who lived in some horribly depressing Soviet bloc country. She was asked about an explosion at a chemical plant, and she said:

"Our government denies it, so we know it must be true."

I remember how I laughed and thought how witty and smart the writers were, and how cleverly they defined the inner workings of an overpowering fascist government in one short sentence.

Well, I'm not laughing now. George Bush, in three short years, has turned my country into a punch line from a 90's cult TV show. Of course that's not how George Bush would see it; oh no, he's God's man in Washington, and he'd deny any attempt on his part to turn the United States of America into a fascist state.

So we know it must be true.

We're in deep shit here, friends. Deep, deep shit.

Dear Sir,

In September 2001 Hosni Mubarak told the Associated Press that he had warned "the Americans" 12 days prior to 911 that there was going to be a major terrorist attack on the US and believe me "this one is going to happen".

Months later when Colleen Rowley was addressing FBI errors, once again the AP reported that Mubarak repeated his claim that he had warned "the Americans" just 12 days prior to 911.

The following day the AP reported that US Intelligence agencies deny receiving any intelligence from Mubarak, in effect calling Mubarak a liar.

Who did Mubarak talk to? It couldn't have been Bush, he was still on his month long vacation in Texas.

Can someone ask the White House if anyone in the US ever received Mubarak's warnings?

Thank you,

Mike Scott

Subj: Scared

Oh Buzz:

Along with several other mailbag contributors, I, too, am getting very, very worried about the election next November. In my gut, I feel certain Bush was behind the Haitian coup. And given all the lying (WMD, Iraq tied to al Qaeda etc.) and the cover-ups (Plame, 9/11, Halliburton, etc.) and the Orwellian disinformation (Healthy Forests, Clear Skies, medicare, etc.), it's becoming pretty clear that this administration doesn't care an iota about playing fair and will not be willing to relinquish power simply because the American electorate votes them out. I feel like Bush and co. (or Rove and co., or Cheney and co., however you want to order it) are probably laughing behind closed doors about Kerry's and Edwards' actually thinking democracy is still in action in the U.S. Seriously, my gut twists and turns and I feel utterly nauseous because I'm afraid Bin Laden's being opportunely trotted out is the least of what's in store for us. I suspect that if we don't take some kind of legal action soon against this criminal administration, while we still can, we'll get another devastating terrorist attack and have marshal law declared before the election can even take place. It really makes me queasy.

Subj: Kudos to the Congressional Black Caucus for Speaking the truth

Buzz:

Thank God for the Congressional Black Caucus! This courageous group of men and women are not reluctant to speak the truth about George Dumbya and company. They are currently alerting the world to the lies that Bush and his henchman, Colin Powell, are echoing about the exit of President Aristide in Haiti. Apparently the bullies in Washington had no idea that Aristide would contact members of the Congressional Black Caucus. ( YES...what a tangled web of lies we weave, when we think that we can continuously deceive the American public!! ) Black caucus members are a part of the few politicians who spoke out against and questioned the legitimacy of Bush taking office in 2000. In other words the Congressional Black Caucus can quickly spot or recognize political coups abroad and here at home ( have you forgotten or gotten over the events in Florida and the US Supreme Court in 2000 ?)

I voted this afternoon and I was shocked at what I decided to do in the voting booth......I voted for Al Sharpton! My intention was to vote for John Edwards, but I decided to vote for someone who has not been afraid to tell the complete truth about Bush. Also as an African American voter, I decided to do something that Blacks rarely get to do : VOTE FOR A BLACK MAN for PRESIDENT!!! During the general election I will vote for anybody who is selected by the Democratic Party to oppose Bush ( ABB). But after what has happened in Haiti and other places I felt like "taking a stand!!" The other thing that I am going to do is send $1.00 to the George Bush re-selection campaign!

I sent substantial contributions to Al Gore, Cynthia McKinney, Max Cleland, and Howard Dean. And you know what happened ? They all LOST. George Bush will never get my vote, but I will send him a buck to ensure that he loses. Peace......don't forget to pray!

Subj: Fwd: DEMOCRACY NOW!: Haiti Report

Hi, Buzz:,

Over the past few days I have been listening with great interest to the reports of Pres. Aristide's "claims" that he was abducted. Anyone who has only gotten his or her news from the mainstream media just might believe that Aristide's acts of a desperate man. We have been told that he resigned and left the country of his own free will and any claims of abduction are suspect because, under the circumstances of his departure, he would have been able to use the telephone at any time. But, anyone who listened to Pacifica radio on Sunday heard the story as it developed.

Pacifica's correspondent in Haiti gave this report:

Pres. Artistide was scheduled to do an interview at 5 a.m. with George Stephanopoulos. At 4 a.m., the ABC crew was at the presidential residence setting up when U. S. Marines arrived. Aristide was told that he was to be escorted to the U. S. ambassador for a meeting--when he left his residence, his hands were handcuffed behind his back. The correspondent said that an ABC cameraman who, out of fear wished to remain anonymous, related this story to him. A member of Aristide’s personal bodyguards later confirmed it. A later report said that a member of the household staff also confirmed the story. Also, it was reported that Stephanopoulos contacted a Congressional representative to inform him of what had happened and to see if there was any additional information forthcoming.

This report was given and updated throughout the day. An interview Amy Goodman conducted with Mrs. Aristide on Saturday and replayed on Sunday also lent more weight to Aristide's claim that he was forced to leave. Hours before the military showed up at their residence, Mrs. Aristide reported that her husband had no intention of resigning and was attempting to work with the commission to bring change to the Haitian government. In the early evening, the report was heard by guests of the show who included: Reps. Charles Rangel, Maxine Waters, and Barbara Lee. Rep. Lee reported that she had been trying to get information from the State Dept. all day and was being stonewalled. Rep. Waters pointed out that if the report was accurate that it was an impeachable offense--bush had far stepped over the line in supporting a coup. She also pointed out the frightening reality that his policy of nation-building has now moved to the western hemisphere.

The difference in the mainstream report and what is apparently the truth is alarming. Aristide was, as reported on Sunday not long after it happened, abducted and kept separated from his family. He was given access to a telephone when his story would have less credibility and could be dismissed as an attempt to lay the groundwork to return to Haiti. Incredibly (or maybe not), an ABC crew witnessed what happened at the presidential residence, George Stephanopoulos was aware of the incident, and ABC 'news' has never used this information to corroborate Aristide's version of the events.

The reporting heard on Pacifica was chilling. The correspondent reported as it happened the murder of two members of the mayor's family outside his home and the actions of the "peaceful" opposition's bloody, unchecked rampage through Port au Prince. As chilling and horrific as it was, it was the unfiltered story and one that has been edited or flat out ignored by the major networks.

We, as BuzzFlash readers, have a better instinct seeking out the unvarnished, ugly truth. Simply by keeping each other informed, we can get beyond the pap that is being feed to us. I urge all of you who have Free Speech TV (FSTV) to watch DemocracyNow! with Amy Goodman (available on Dish Network, Ch. 9415) and/or find a local Pacifica radio channel and listen to her reports and the other extensive coverage they are giving this issue. If neither channel is available to you, you can listen to "DN!" online at: http://www.democracynow.org. At that site, you can also sign up for a daily newsletter.

Thanks to all of you who send information and links to this site and thank you, BuzzFlash, for compiling in one place a wealth of sources for those of us who care more for the truth than fairy tales.

Subj: Mission Accomplished

Dear BuzzFlash,

Thank you for the incredible work you do too keep us all informed. With our Orwellian style media...your work and dedication is so appreciated.

I was talking to a Vietnam vet today at the poles. He told me that when the toxic texan claimed "Mission Accomplished"...what that did was end the war so that any soldiers benefits after that would be greatly diminished. I don't know for a fact if that is true,it would be worth doing a story on. Maybe and that is probably stretching it...just maybe the zombie liberal media might wake up for a little while, after they checked with Ashcroft...they might repeat it.

Subj: "The Passion of the Christ"

Mel Gibson's "THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST"

Review by Tom Cahill

I saw "The Passion" a few days ago. Usually I am a very decisive guy, "opinionated" some say. But I don't know what to make of this film. I can't say I can recommend it or not.

The acting, photography, special effects, etc. were absolutely superb. As far as I know the story was very close to the Bible.

It was extremely brutal and extremely gory, but that's how folks were back then, some even now. The movie is definitely not for faint hearts but neither is The Truth.

I can't say I liked or enjoyed the movie since it was about a man being tortured to death unjustly. And to this day he hasn't gotten a fair shake since I think Christianity is a corruption of the simple teachings of Christ.

Neither can I condemn Gibson, a conservative Catholic, for reminding us of humankind's consistent inhumanity toward humankind. Just look at Iraq, or many other Third World countries, or the inner cities of the USA which the CIA has been destabilizing and exploiting for decades. And engraved in marble in the lobby to the CIA headquarters are these words of John attributed to Christ, " And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free."

All I can say is I'm glad I saw the film. I won't see it again. But now I know what the fuss is about and can toss in my two cents like right here, right now.

Subj: Suggestion to fellow Texas residents

Hi,

I know from reading your mailbag that there are many other Texas residents who frequent Buzz. If you don't mind my using you as a platform, I would like to make a suggestion to them:

As you know, thanks to the illegal redistricting done by the ghp-controlled Texas legislature, our participation in "Super Tuesday" was nullified when our primary was switched to next week. Since it is all simply "going through the motions" for Democrats, why not take this opportunity to make the ghp really crazy and do a write-in campaign for Hillary? Enough votes for her would truly exasperate the ghp'ers, especially if it were a fairly significant number of votes for Sen. Clinton.

It would be a nice piece of payback, while doing no harm to John Kerry. It would also give us a great reason to go out and vote in what is a totally meaningless primary.

Subj: not bothering to report american soldiers killed in action any more????

dear buzzflash --

today, as I was clicking through the images of the ashoura-centered attacks in Iraq, I noticed a very weird thing. The NYTimes photo essay displayed photos from the attacks. Nothing unusual there. But -- at the end of the photo essay was a photograph of a soldier trying to extinguish the fire from a burning humvee. The caption mentioned that an American soldier had died there. And yet, THERE WAS NO MENTION OF AMERICAN CASUALTIES TODAY. What's up? Are we in a new phase of the war? Are casualties not even being mentioned? They're so common, they're not "news" any more?? We've known for a long time that American humanitarian aid workers and contractors (people desperate for work -- any work) -- are being injured and killed, and yet there is virtually no coverage. I think that we deserve to know the real numbers.

all best,

Subj: Mailbagger William O'Dell - 'We The People'

Buzz,

William O’Dell’s mailbag message from 3/2 wrongly assumes "America is a Democracy" of "One person one vote." In 2000 that changed to ‘5 justices, 5 votes.’That myth, along with the submyths of democracy - e.g., a free press, government checks-&-balances, no longer [if they ever did, except for the privileged] exist. The concept of ‘democracy’is over-sentimentalized [as are so many feel-good concepts like ‘the sanctity of marriage’] to such an extreme as to turn into its opposite.

Mr. O’Dell "blames" citizens for the travesties of this cabal. I disagree. For example, he asks, "Who allowed George Bush to lead us into an unnecessary war?" In case Mr. O’Dell was not paying attention for months prior to DimSon’s invasion of Iraq, millions of "We The People" took to the streets, engaged in civil disobedience, wrote their representatives, wrote articles, put on satirical plays - all condemning this illegal and immoral act. DimSon ignored the loud anti-war call of "We The People" and invaded anyway.

One question not asked by Mr. O’Dell was how can DimSon single-handedly install into the federal courts, right-wing judges already voted down by the Senate - who voted against the judges because of pressure from "We The People"? That dispels the myth of checks-and-balances. As does the occupation of all 3 branches of government by one party. As does the FCC allowing media consolidation despite overwhelming protest from ‘We The People’.

I would ask Mr. O’Dell what he expects "We The People" to do when these illegal acts are committed in rapid-fire succession - e.g., the invasion of Iraq is devolving into civil war and although that situation is deteriorating, DimSon foments another civil war in Haiti and backs rebels against a democratically-elected leader. Are we to take to the streets each time some new crime is exposed? Or ignore our families, careers and lives in order to spend all our time writing our representatives expecting they will actually do something to remedy the latest catastrophe [one submyth - ‘write your congressman!’]?

We do not vote on invading countries, on killing thousands of innocent people, of overturning democracies not of our liking, or how the 9/11 commission carries out its mandate, or how the IRS screws around - to name just a few. Buckminster Fuller once said there should be voting booths on ever street corner so we could vote - not just once every 2 or 4 years for representatives - for Every issue that came up. Now, that would be a democracy!

Subj: Claim by ins. exc. that consumer lawyers are terrorists

Dear BuzzFlash:

I thought you might be interested in this rather shocking statement:

I heard today (actually, on Sunday 2-29-4) on public radio that the CEO of an insurance company (they said it's the largest in the country, and I think they said it's AIG) said consumer-interest lawyers (like me) are terrorists.

In response, I wrote a little editorial piece (it's down a bit) that I intend to send to the main local newspaper in my area, the San Francisco Chronicle.

I'm sorry I don't have more specifics. (I was driving when I heard the story).

I also would like to thank you folks for doing such a wonderful job.

Best regards,

Dear Editor:

Some lawyers –I’m one of them –work hard to bring justice to everyday people who have suffered devastating loses because of illegal and unethical conduct by obscenely wealthy corporate executives. (Think Enron). Now the head of the country’s largest insurance company claims lawyers who represent victims of corporate greed are actually terrorists.

His claim is, of course, a lie. And it helps lawyers like me prove that executives like him are dishonest and greedy and care only about adding to their already bloated bank accounts, no matter how badly other people will suffer.

Subj: It's On

Ladies and gentlemen with John Kerry's victories on Super Tuesday it is apparent that he is our nominee. It is now time to start doing everything in our power to get this man into the White House.

I am tired of waking up every morning to see what fresh horror has befallen our country at the hands of George Bush.

I am tired of the fear mongering.

I am tired of being called unpatriotic, and worse, because I can not in good conscience support the misguided and evil policies set forth by our government.

I am tired of facing a future of unending war.

I am tired of worrying that the country I love may not survive four more years of a Bush administration.

I am DAMN tired of George W. Bush!

It is time for us to hit the streets.

BuzzFlash is a great resource for all of us to use to achieve our goals. Support the site, tell your friends, print the articles and pass them around to those you know who may not be so well connected. Recently, it was announced that this site got 3 million hits in one month. That is an incredible number! If each of us can reach out and convert someone who is sitting on the fence or get one person to register to vote we can make a huge difference!

I have set out on a one man protest mission. I have made several anti-Bush t-shirts that I wear out on a regular basis. It is amazing the discussions and debates that I have caused by that one simple act. If one person brings it up others join in the conversation. I am happy to report that almost 100% of the people I have talked to are as fed up as we all are. Hopefully, these people will remember our encounter on election day. By simple individual acts we can win this thing. Support John Kerry, send him some money. He is our best hope for a better, Bush-less future.

Fight the power!

Mike from Raleigh
