Subj: Rep. Mark Foley's comment that Aristide should "eave by a Lear jet or he'll leave in a body bag"

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/international/jan-june04/haiti2_2-26.html

RAY SUAREZ: Congressman Foley, is there a future in your view for a Haitian government and some stable governance there that includes President Aristide?

REP. MARK FOLEY: I hope we can find a solution to this. If it includes Mr. Aristide staying, I'm all for it. If it includes he has to leave based on the international partners, so be it. The one thing I want to see happen is for this country to be calm, for us as Americans to join together with the international community to rebuild this beautiful country. They need help. They want our assistance but we can't go it alone.

So my desire is -- and I think Mr. Aristide is getting the message -- he's going to leave by a Lear jet or he'll leave in a body bag. These people are getting close. There's no sense in him risking his life in Port-au-Prince based on the current scenario.

Subj: Bush turns deaf ear to hearing-impaired

This is a letter to the editor with a remarkable complaint - Bush has apparently decided that some 200 TV shows are not appropriate for hearing-impaired and therefore captions are no longer being generated for them.

Subj: "Behind scenes" in Haiti...................

I was watching a Haitian expert saying that the International Republican Party has been in talks with the Aristide opposition for some time. Here is a story from a few years ago. If the Bush people are supporting the opposition that is how they are probably doing it:

http://www.chron.com/content/chronicle/world/98/08/14/haiti.2-0.html

This is much more current and seems pretty credible:

U.S. Forms Party

In April, the U.S. National Endowment for Democracy, acting through the International Republican Institute, set up the Haitian Conference of Political Parties (CHPP), a coalition of 26 “opposition”groups. Most of the parties are right-wing groups, including several headed by former officials who served under ex-dictators François and Jean-Claude Duvalier or the military regime of Gen. Henri Namphy. The better-known include Leslie Manigat, a former president installed through a military-run election, and Marc Bazin, a former World Bank official who served as Jean-Claude Duvalier’s finance minister in 1982. In the December 16, 1990, presidential election, Bazin finished a distant second, despite millions of campaign dollars from the NED.

A few coalition members come from the center-left, including socialist leader Serge Gilles and former Aristide ally Evans Paul.

http://www.americas.org/index.php?cp=item&item_id=11498

And here is one more that gets REALLY involved. Would take a better man than me to comprehend ALL of this one but I have noticed the Black Caucus has been yelling loudly for US intervention into Haiti and in support of Aristide it appears.. This may be their site:

http://www.haitireborn.org/campaigns/lhl/coha-press-release-6-13-2002.php

In conclusion it appears to be the Black Caucus supporting Aristide and the International Republican Institute is supporting the opposition. As Warren Zevon said so well, “Quite ugly one morning”…….lol

Subj: Bush not held accountable

Bush is either complicit in the 9/11 attacks or inexcusably negligent.

Bush intentionally lied to the American people so he could have his Iraqi invasion.

To date there have been no repercussions.

Why haven't the democrats done a better job of holding Bush accountable? Are they so scared of offending Bush that they would rather betray their dead countrymen? Apparently.

The republicans went nuts during the Clinton administration and got their impeachment trial. The democrats are faced with serious crimes yet they won't even make sure the investigations aren't tainted.

The only difference between the democrats and republicans seems to be that the democrats are afraid to fight for their beliefs.

Subj: thought about the article on DHS tv show

I noticed this in the E! Online (2/29) article on the Dept of Homeland Security TV show...

" Producers at Steeple Productions claim "no other television series has ever had such access and clearance at the highest levels of real-life counter-terrorism agencies: The White House, Dept. of Homeland Security, FBI, EPA, California State Counter-Terrorism Units, LAPD, LAFD and the Los Angeles and Orange County Sheriff's Departments. These government agencies have rallied their resources and support behind the vision of DHS--The Series, including President G. W. Bush and Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, who both endorse and contribute sound bites to the introductions of the series."

It's kind of amusing/scary that a TV show seems to be getting more cooperation from the White House than the 9/11 Commission.

Subj: Bush has more time for fund raising, then safety of the United States

Bush has more time for republican fund raising, then giving one hour of his time to find the problems with 9-11. Each time he travels for money re-election money - he refuses to find the truth in 9-11. This we should all vote the house and senate republicans out of office. they are going along with it.

Subj: Marines in Haiti

Buzz,

This past Friday, I was listening to Pacifica Radio. They were doing a live interview with Madame Aristide who was inside the Presidential Residence at the time. After speaking for some time she abruptly said "I have to go now" and hung up the phone.

At that point they went to a reporter who was about a mile away from the site. He was reporting on the events at the moment and suddenly said that there was a helicopter above and after a minute another one appeared. The station then cut away for some commentary and a station break.

When they returned to this reporter there were now a total of four helicopters circling overhead, again this about a mile from where the President was. The reporter had by now identified the choppers as US Marine Helicopters!!!!

Up to that point bush had said he was not getting involved in the Haiti situation, but here we get a live report that the Marines are on the scene. There was NO alert from the administration that they were going in. Here was another late Friday, under the radar move by the bush gang.

For the rest of the weekend I listened to mainstream news to hear a report of us going into Haiti and heard NOTHING!!! They were reporting as though this never happened.

As the weekend progressed I then started to hear reports that bush was "considering" going in. It was like they were slowly prepping the public for what they were already doing.

WTF....What the hell were they up to and what move were they backing up on Friday. This is real scary...it's like living in a Communist Country where we are kept in the dark about what the Government is doing......AND WE ARE!!!!!!

Subj: Travis County prosecutors investigating DeLay's TRM and TRMPAC

Thought you might be interested in this article in the Houston Chronicle this morning: Travis County prosecutors, using a law first passed in 1907, are investigating whether DeLay's operatives committed a felony by breaking the only major restriction on campaign finance in Texas -- a ban on using corporate or labor union money to influence elections.

Subj: Pacifica report on Haiti

Hi Buzz: It's Sunday night, and since I don't have TV or a babysitter to go out I'm going to (sadly) miss the Oscars -- but instead I'm listening to a truly jaw-dropping story on my local Pacifica radio affiliate about what's going on in Haiti. Basically it now appears that Aristide was forcibly removed from power by US Marines. WHAT??? True or not, don't these shocking allegations deserve, I don't know, coverage?? When I heard this I rushed to the computer to see what CNN had to say about it... and you guessed the headline: Renee Zellweger is best supporting actress! Yes, that's the most important thing in the entire F***ing world tonight. I mean, I love movies, but I don't mistake them for NEWS.

You knew, and I knew, and Cheney knew the date for Oscar night MONTHS ago. Coincidence?? Yeah, right. I'm going to be on the lookout for big planned news events in the future: the perfect cover if the Bushies don't want a real story to get out.

Subj: New links suggestion

Most press reports on Martha Stewart ruling have it all wrong. They incorrectly report that the judge "threw out" the most serious charge..

http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/news/wabc_022704_marthanoon.html when in fact Ms. Stewart was acquitted on that particular indictment.

Apparently Ms. Stewart still faces charges of obstruction of justice and making false statements. When she told them that she wasn't guilty, they piled the charges of lying to investigators and obstruction of justice.

Now that she's been acquitted of the core charge of stock fraud and insider trading, doesn't that mean that the prosecutors are actually the ones who lied and "obstructed justice" by charging her for something of which she's now been proven innocent?

Read the actual judge's ruling and more facts here

Re: Social Security

The Bush Cabalistas would have us believe there is a looming social security crisis. There is in fact a genuine crisis: the cabalistas are trying to purloin social security funds. It's a crisis of theft by the government for their Wall Street friends who would turn the streets of America into Wail streets.

Subj: What's the difference?

Buzz,

What's the difference whether Bush talks with Kean and Hamilton for an hour or with the whole panel for longer? Bush is going to stammer and lie much as he did with Tim Russert. He will do his best to divulge no useful information. About all you could hope to gain is to charge Bush with perjury, and you could get away with that only if he were under oath and there were witnesses (a judge, the television-viewing public, or whatever).

Subj: DHS - The Series

Well, I did a search on Steeple Production, mentioned in the article you linked to about the proposed new series (DHS-The Series) with unprecedented access to the highest levels of anti-terrorism in the U.S...

Could this be the production company that's putting this series up?: It specializes in evangelism!!!? Makes a certain amount of sense, huh. Shuddering.

It sure does make me wonder. Maybe you could look deeper? Would be interesting.

Subj: SERIAL LIARS IN THE WHITE HOUSE?

Dear Buzz,

The strong rumors about Pres. Aristide being abducted by american marines were met with vehement denials by Scott McClellen and Rumsfeld today. Unfortunately, after all the lies and deception before the Iraq war, we cannot believe anything that this Bush administration says. They have an unbelievable record of saying one thing to hide another. The irony of it all is that they made Al Gore out to be a exaggerator, but it turns out that George Bush and his regime are number one serial liars. I really feel sorry for the democratic nominee, whoever it will be, because he has to battle the GOP lying smear machine and their filthy tactics.

Yes, I can just close my eyes and see those US bases in Haiti already... they're getting in position to do in Cuba, Columbia and Venezuela. Meanwhile in Venezuela the US papers seem to have no trouble reporting on the anti-Chavez riots but pretty much haven't picked up on the fact that today 100,000 marchers demonstrated in support of and not against Chavez.

Excerpt: The chances of a referendum ever being held suffered another blow on Monday when Venezuela's top electoral official quarreled with the Atlanta-based Carter Center over whether that U.S. observer mission was withdrawing from the nation.

National Electoral Council President Francisco Carrasquero announced that a Carter Center observer had told him they were pulling out, because of a row among divided electoral officers over how to proceed with the much-delayed referendum process.

Denying this, Carter Center mission leader Jennifer McCoy said: "The mission remains in Venezuela."

SAY WHAT?

Reading the names of this year's Academy Award nominees on his talk show yesterday, Mike Barnicle inexplicably referred to two of the actors -- Shohreh Aghdashloo and Djimon Hounsou -- as "terrorists." Aghdashloo, who's Iranian, is nominated for best supporting actress for "House of Sand and Fog," and Hounsou, who was born in Africa and grew up in France, is nominated for best supporting actor for his role in "In America." Barnicle, a former Boston Globe columnist, didn't return a phone call yesterday, but a WTKK spokeswoman and Globe sportswriter Dan Shaughnessy confirmed Barnicle made the remark. Shaughnessy was in the studio at the time. "We haven't heard from anybody. It happened so quickly," said Leslie Cipolla, marketing director for WTKK. "It was a passing comment."

Subj: Bush's Imaginary Adoring Public

I watched the news this morning in reference to the Haiti unrest. Blah, blah, blah, Aristide has left the country, Bush has sent in the Marines, etc. File film starts, showing Bush getting off his helicopter on the White House lawn, waving to who we don't know [there doesn't seem to be anyone around.] He promenades down the steps and begins strutting like a banty rooster [more waving to imaginary people.] The only thing Bush didn't do was spike a football into the ground and pound his chest after sending the Marines into Haiti [but of course that's probably because he didn't think of it.] I am so tired of this phony perpetually waving to imaginary people as if there is an adoring public everywhere he goes... even at 7:30 a.m. on the White House lawn! Just watch the news and you will see what I'm talking about.

Subj: Choices We Never Make

Subject: Choices

Televangelists like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell, and also George W. Bush would like you to believe they actually made a choice about being straight or gay, and that it was the choice itself that has saved them from everlasting damnation. They never cease to remind you (shrilly and continuously) that they hate only because God hates. They imply that the hatred and viciousness they spew comes from God who personally orders them to hate the ubiquitous sinners.

I am not a lesbian, but I never had any opportunity to make that choice. I never had any choice whatsoever on what qualities I was attracted to, or who I felt was attractive sexually. How can it be any different for any other human being? I don't believe anyone can truthfully say they have any control over whether they are heterosexual or homosexual. The only thing anyone can say is that they have control over how they act on whatever impulses and attractions they feel. And once they choose to act (or not) then if it's between consenting adults, whose business is it but theirs? I certainly don't accept that anyone but my sexual partner and I would be concerned with our sex life. And I wouldn't tolerate anyone uninvited sticking their nose into my bed. I doubt that Pat, Jerry or George would invite anyone in to their's either, yet they can't seem to even get their minds out of other people's bedrooms. There's something distasteful and creepy about this fact.

Pat and Jerry owe their entire life's rewards to their hatred and unspiritual closed-minded bigotry. Without gays and lesbians to whip as 'sinners' their brand of religion would fall apart very quickly for lack of sustenance. And for Bush to actively propose bigotry and hatred only shows he isn't the leader he would like us to believe he is. Maybe he can be a leader of hateful religion, but he certainly isn't anyone who spiritually minded people can accept.

My dislike is reserved for intolerant, divisive, hate-filled, self-appointed vile evangelicals who turn spirituality into grotesque and self-serving religiosity. With gays and lesbians I have no problem whatsoever.

Subj: How to defeat big money.

I keep hearing people worried over the fact that Bush has raised over $150 million dollars for his campaign. At $2,000 each this amounts to less than 100,000 people or less than 0.1% of the electorate.

There have to be at least 10 million people who can afford to donate at least $50 to defeat Bush. After all $50 won't even buy a fast food dinner and a movie for a family of four., yet those 10 million donations of $50 would raise $500 million dollars. Ten million donations of $100 would raise one BILLION dollars. I am sure that there are enough people out there who could afford AT LEAST $100.

I am planning to donate at least $100 and to get at least two other people to donate a similar amount and to also get at least two other people each to donate $100 each. Since this is a geometric progression if it goes 24 steps that will be 16 million people!

Here is my charge to BuzzFlash readers. Each of you reading this donate as much as you can to the Democratic candidate and get at least two other people to do the same and to pass this idea on.

Subj: On Aristide

Well, duh--

Of course, the US forced Aristide out. But the real question is why? What do we get here? What's the point? There's no oil, the land is degraded to such an extent that most of it should be taken out of production for 100 years or so to reconstitute the soil, there's not enough industry to fill a thimble. What Haiti really shows the world is what happens when your country pays debt service for a really long time. (Charles X, later deposed as king of France, forced a deal on the Haitian government in 1826 that required that the people of that country take out a long term loan to buy their freedom from France. Rene Theodore, the head of the PCUH, remembers contributing to retire this debt in 1948.) Haiti is also what happens to your country when the US keeps taking it over; someday someone is going to make us spend the money to fix the mess we keep making.

Subj: Bush Giuliani Ticket?

What's this noise about Bush dumping Cheney for Giuliani to shore up his failing chances? If this is true, it's just the kind of bizarre and brilliant thing Rove would dream up. What can be done to publicize this? If it's brought out as an issue now, we have a chance to show it for the cold-hearted political sham it is. We all know that Bush and his war machine are readying to trot out Osama and some sort of WMD's conveniently this election cycle. Bush is a moron; Karl Rove is the man to beat.

The Bush regime continues the "voodoo economics" of his hero Reagan. And you can bet your last dollar that anytime you hear Repubs mention 'privatize' anything, it is a scheme to enrich either the wealthy, corporate America, Wall Street moguls, the energy industry, defense industry or all of the above. Their supporters reward them big time to keep them in power along with Repubs in Congress while the average citizen is robbed every way they can get away with -- legally or illegally. The Bush team's secret plan to "reform" Social Security.

By Ron Suskind

Posted Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at 4:27 PM PT

During the 2000 campaign, candidate George W. Bush seemed particularly confident about his ability to pay for Social Security reform. Despite independent estimates that creating the kind of "voluntarily" private accounts he envisioned could cost more than $1 trillion, Bush consistently took the position that he could reform Social Security for free, without undermining promises to baby boomers anticipating retirement over the next several decades.

Subject: Coup Number Two

So the truth is seeping out that the U.S. was in fact behind the recent deposing of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide from power. "Ushered" out of Haiti by American diplomats and troops he now claims in absentia that he was dragged to exile in Africa. This was the first successful unseating of a democratically elected government in our hemisphere, although it wasn't for a lack of trying to effect the removal of Hugo Chavez who the Venezuela people overwhelmingly elected into office. It is clear that repatriation of Venezuela's oil was the reason why Chavez had to go, but it still isn't apparent why Aristide was removed from power. There are two reasons that come immediately to mind:

  • The first deals with pandering to the Haitian- American community. Much like Bush's current tough stance on Cuba to to appease the Cuban-Americans in Florida, the banishing of an unpopular Aristide will gain sway with large groups in New York and Florida. Here is some background on Haitian-Americans ( http://grove.ufl.edu/~creole/facts.shtml ). Both votes and money are at stake with this group.
  • The second reason has to do with a dismantling of the Clinton legacy. Aristide was put back in power during the mid-90's by Bill Clinton to stabilize Haiti and bring it back into the family of democratic nations. By removing Aristide the Bush backers can point to another Clinton (Democrat) foreign policy failure. It also gives Bush an opportunity to demonstrate that he does care about nations that don't have a plethora of natural resources that we cherish.

This latest anti-democracy move by the Bush administration should put to rest once and for all that installing democracy was the motive for invading Iraq. They don't care about democracy at home, so why would anyone fathom that Bush cared about democracy abroad.

A somewhat different take!!! " Ce sont les Forces spéciales états-uniennes qui ont dû enlever le président." does not however confirm the fact that the U.S. forces were definitely behind the coup. Réseau Voltaire wouldn't dare be that affirmative. It says "certainly", "probably" - I am sure that they mean to say "most likely" - that's all.

Washington and Paris overthrow Aristide

Coup d'État in Haiti

Washington and Paris became reconciled in order to defend their interests in the Caribbean. They organized, skillfully and knowingly, a coup d'état in Haiti in order to overthrow the elected president. After having fabricated a convenient opposition around the financier of the two Duvalier and André Apaid, Washington created armed groups around the former putschist Guy Philippe. All this time Régis Debray and Véronique de Villepin-Albanel were trying to force Jean-Bertrand Aristide to resign. Finally, with "the street" remaining loyal to Aristide, the "rebels" have not entered Port-au-Prince. It was certainly the U.S. special forces who entered the presidential palace and removed the president in the early morning.

Subj: Spooky and Haunting

In the Meet the Press interview, Russert asked Bush if he thought he could lose the 2004 election.

Bush fired back, “I am not going to lose.”Bush’s words have been haunting me ever since. It’s not that I think the goon will actually win, but I am leery of the tactics he may pull to be elected. Of course, we all expect the dirty tricks [campaign ads] that will be paid for with the tremendous amount of campaign funds Bush has gathered. That alone, won’t assure the presidency. We hear that bin Laden may be trotted out in October. Still, I don’t think Bush wins. I also think the Dems will be on their toes watching election precincts. Hopefully, this will discourage vote tampering.

Bush’s words haunt me because the last time his numbers went south, we had 911. So, I’m just coming flat out with it. Will we have another terrorist attack in the US right before the election in the USA?... anthrax incidents, one after the other so that Bush can project himself once again as the great protector of the masses and staunch terrorist fighter? I certainly hope that none of these questions are met with speculation, but we have to admit, when Bush’s numbers go down we get a whammy. We could get just about any October surprise. Just remember the Bush statements, “I am not going to lose and I’m the war president!”Spooky, just plain spooky!

Subj: We The People

To The Editor,

It seems that many people do not know the definition of the word Democracy. It is not like some words that have different definitions for the same spelling. Democracy has only one definition!

The one true definition of Democracy is: "One person one vote." America, by virtue of the Electoral College, is an indirect democracy. I am not aware of a true democracy in existence on the planet. However, except for the Electoral College flaw, we have the best democracy of any nation.

Contrary to popular belief, the "BUCK" does not stop at the top as was stated on the pen holder on President Truman's desk. The "Buck" stops at the ballot box. It is at the ballot box where the final decisions are made. When things go bad in America, like now, it is the American people's fault and no one else.

Who allowed Jeb Bush and Beverly Harris to rig the Florida election? It was we the people! Who allowed the Supreme Court to appoint an unelected fool as resident of the oval office? It was we the people! Who allowed George Bush to lead us into an unnecessary war? It was we the people!

Who is allowing Bush and Rummy to be interviewed by only two of the members of the 9/11 Commission for only one hour and not under oath so they can lie if they wish? It is we the people! Who is allowing the Secretary of Health to take 1.3 billion U.S. dollars to Iraq to build a health care system for the Iraqi people at a time when 43 million American people do not have health insurance? It is we the people! Who is allowing the White House to deny us the right to buy our pharmaceuticals from Canada at one third the price as when bought here from companies that contributed millions of dollars to the Bush campaign for President? It is we the people! Who is allowing the resident of the oval office to claim that he is giving a tax break to the middle and lower wage earners in America when what happened was the IRS collected taxes from our wages under the old tax tables for the first seven months of the year resulting in far more being withheld than was supposed to be withheld so that when the new tax tables were released in August, tax refunds would appear to be larger to uphold the residents claim that he "gave" us big tax cuts? It is we the people! Who is allowing the oil companies to artificially inflate the gas prices by fifty cents a gallon so they can recoup their contributions to the Bush campaign? It is we the people! Who is allowing, in addition to the three billion dollars we sent to Haiti, one hundred thousand more jobs to also be sent there to satisfy the Voodoo people of that impoverished island? It is we the people! Who is allowing hundreds of the largest corporations in America to rent a mailbox in an offshore island and then claim it as their corporate headquarters to evade/avoid paying billions of dollars in taxes to the American government? It is we the people! Who is allowing our government to give millionaires and billionaires new yachts and private jets? It is we the people! I would go on but I am getting carpal tunnel and my insurance does not cover that malady.

Don't go looking for someone else to blame for our problems, it is we the people who are to blame! America is a Democracy! There is no one else, even if we were as adept at lying as the resident, we the people can blame!

If you want four more years even worse than the last four, vote for repuglicans for the house, the senate, and especially president. Just remember who is allowing this damnation of America! It is we the people!

Dear Buzz,

I liked your article about another reason to turn off the tv. I am tired of Bush and his negligence toward terrorism so he can use it for a fear tactic (remember how the GOP and its media slaves blacked out Clark because Clark asked questions of why Bush did not act on the warning about 9/11 BEFORE it happened. Moreover, Clark learned from his meeting with the Joint Chiefs that Bush planned to take out Saddam whether or not he was behind 9/11. (Winning Modern Wars, page 120) Yes, we know Saddam is a bad man but Bush used him in a bait and switch instead of getting bin laden. Bin laden is something Bush wants to use later .Bus DOES play politics with National Security. By the way, Kerry has the right to call Viet Nam wrong. I also liked your article of how he volunteered for two tours of duty there. Bush, on the other hand, should shut his AWOL, deserter mouth, about Nam, since he never went there. He cashed the government's paychecks, while AWOL and then Daddy got him an honorable discharge while he was a Congressman. Who does Bush think he is fooling?
