THIS IS PART 2 OF THE FEBRUARY 25, 2004 BUZZFLASH MAILBAG. CLICK HERE FOR PART 1. Subj: Thanks for supporting teachers! Dear Buzz, Thanks for your banner headline about the Paige's hate speech toward teachers, of all people. This crowd is really sick. Can you imagine them calling any other mainstream organization terrorists and getting away with it? If only the mainstream media would give this story some play, they might have to back off, if not accept responsibility. Hey-that would be way to much to ask for! I'm a hard working public school teacher in a low-income area, and I appreciate the support. I really do! Thanks again! Karen Subj: My letter to Nader Good Gawd, Ralph Nader needs to get his head on straight. I told him what I think he needs to do instead of running for president, if you agree then send in your own version here. http://www.votenader.org/contact/index.php You do not need to fill in the all the contact info, I just gave my first name. Here is what I wrote: "Hello, If you want to change the system then work to get enough Green Senators and Representatives elected so that you WILL have a block with enough power to crowbar some good policy through the mess that is our federal government. Then run for president because there will be a third party." If enough people hammer him with reality then maybe he will get the message. A BuzzFlash Reader. Hi, I am encouraging all my friends to support the Democratic nominee. Ralph Nader is trying to take votes away again and Bush loves it. I don't trust Ralph anymore. Why does he just show up every four years? I now wonder if the GOP pays him. I will vote for whomever is on that Democratic ticket. I am still a Dem, no matter what. Both Dean and Clark have urged their supporters to support the Dem nominee and not Nader. I can't believe that the dope, Rod Paige, Bush's education secretary, called the teachers' organization, NEA, a "terrorist organization". Now he says it was a joke! That is some joke. When Ashcroft is talking about military tribunals for any "suspected terrorist", that is a very serious charge! Bush and Ashcroft and Paige must got. Tell your friends. Don't vote Nader this time or we are REALLY in for some Bush surprises that he is holding back to unleash during his second term. A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Bush and Bin Laden Greetings to BuzzFlash! Bush and Bin Laden –Two real true Friends. Where would G.W. Bush be today without Bin Laden? Of course in the White House. What would G.W. Bush be today without Bin Laden? An unobtrusive, churchgoing hypocrite, serving the people who took him to the top (The PNAC and connected contributors). What did Bin Laden do for G.W. Bush? He gave him the opportunity, to proclaim himself a hero. What did G.W. Bush do for such a promoter? Gratefully he tried to make the world believe, that he will hunt him down. No one could have ever done a greater favour for G.W. Bush, than Bin Laden. How could they have done without each other? Friendship has gone that far that Bin Laden has been spared ‘till today. In order for such a ‘leader’to gain credibility, he has to have an enemy, whom he can build up as an exaggerated monster, frightening everyone to come under mothers skirt, blinding everyone from reality and individual assessment of the danger. (G.W. Bush and Bin Laden likewise.) Bin Laden (how many million US$ was the reward for him, dead or alive?) is still at large, available for G.W. Bush to be painted as the super monster terrorist. Only a naïve person would deprive himself of such a wonderful reason for bloody bellicose performance. NO HERO WITHOUT ENEMY! NO FRIGHT WITHOUT THREAT! LONG LIVE BIN LADEN AT LARGE! (and even if he would be dead already –he’s the scarecrow needed.) A BuzzFlash reader from Germany Subj: Oil Shortage? Are we going to have an "OIL SHORTAGE" scheduled right now so it will make it OK to have WARS FOR OIL?? I hope others are catching this! Jon There is a new web page on 911review.org. After 2 previous attempts at passing the worst of the Draconian War of Terror legislation in Canada, the government has reintroduced Bill C-17. http://www.911review.org/Wiki/C17PublicSafetyAct.shtml This bill purports to "enact measures for implementing the 1975 Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention in order to enhance public safety" which is the greatest hypocrisy as the only terrorists known to have used biological weapons are American in the AnthraxAttacks: http://www.911review.org/Wiki/AnthraxAttacks.shtml It was passed by the House of Commons 7 October 2003, and is now before the Senate. This is the worst legislation of all the Canadian police state agenda http://www.911review.org/Wiki/FraudulentLegislation.shtml If anything it's even worse than the corresponding US legislation; it gives the Minister carte blanche to pass any order as law, without submitting it to Parliament, and exempts it from review by the Statutory Instruments Act which is the mechanism to make sure the law, order or regulation is legal, and does not conflict with the Charter of Rights. Good for a year. It also mends the Privacy Act that would allow all information collected by airlines to be distributed to foreign powers without their knowledge or consent (S.98). Between this bill and the Customs Act, individuals arriving in Canada or leaving Canada, not only by aircraft but by any kind public transport, will have all of their personal information distributed to the police to check for warrants (even unrelated to terrorism), and to foreign countries as well - the CappsII database of the Pentagon's Total Information Awareness program. It also creates a reserve pool of military judges in the case of martial law, which combined with the unlimited powers for Interim Orders by the Minister under the Quarantine Act, makes us ask: http://www.911review.org/Wiki/WhatsNext.shtml All Canadians must act immediately to try to kill this legislation. Editor Subj: Can We Do SOMETHING about the Democratic Leadership Council? Dear BuzzFlashers: Can we do something about the Democratic Leadership Council? Like, dismantle it, and challenge any current member of Congress that's a member, to be replaced with a real Democratic candidate with true values and personal convictions? What useful purpose do they serve towards sending the Democratic Party back to power in our Government? The accomplishments of the Democratic Leadership Council: Succeeded in losing the majority in both houses of Congress after a 40 year dominance; Solidified the GOP's plan for one-party domination of Government; Became the Right Wing of the Republican Party; Failed to come up with a plan to defeat GeeDubya; Moved the Party so far to the Right in being "moderate" or "centrist" that the Democrats are no longer recognizable, therefore providing no clear-cut choice in the 2000 election, which resulted in the Thief-In-Chief and his gang of "jack-booted thugs" who masquerade as Cabinet leaders and Congressional members; Rolled over and handed GeeDubya a blank check for war while the domestic policies and programs went to hell in a handbasket; Made words like "liberal" or "progressive" sound dirty and ugly; Produced the likes of leaders like Tom Daschle and Joe "Republican-Lite" Lieberman. I will ask this again: Can we do SOMETHING about the Democratic Leadership Council? Apart from their one success in getting Bill Clinton elected, what has this group really done for the Democratic Party? What has been their great contribution, except their demonstration of how to get in bed with the Republicans and lose everything the Party once stood for? If it weren't for Howard Dean, they would still be at it with the likes of John Kerry, and God Forbid, Lieberman would probably still be in the race. The Republicans have already convinced Al Sharpton, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em"... I would like to hear from Buzz Flash and the loyal readers. Thanks. Leutisha Stills - loyal BuzzFlash reader, a proud liberal and a true patriot! Subj: Bush Says Security, Prosperity at Stake in Election Dear Sir, In regards to this article published on Bloomberg.com, on February 23, 2004, the heading says it all. Mr. Bush has it right, if he is re-selected we will have neither Security or Prosperity, or clean air to breathe, uncontaminated food and water to consume, employment opportunities, decent healthcare, adequate education programs, a fair and equitable tax system, nor the goodwill and alliance of any foreign country who isn't receiving 'pay for loyalty'. "Bush Says Security, Prosperity at Stake in Election" John and Marcia Booker, Mobile AL Subj: McManufacturing Dear BuzzFlash, You may have already run this, and maybe I just missed it. I noticed in yesterday's mailbag that someone was asking for a link to the McManufacturing story. This is from Time Magazine's Sunday release. Jobs and the Election Hope it helps. Joe Humbleo Subj: Somebody's Lying Either Nader or Bush is lying because Kerry can't possibly have voted against every weapon brought up in congress and voted for all of them. I am sure they will have Nader on later and Nader will be attacking Kerry. Marc Racicot and Ed Gillespie saying that people are accusing Bush of being the Taliban and they are innocent, except when they accuse everyone of being unpatriotic. And Bush says Kerry flip-flops, Bush has changed everything he said about the reasons for war, except that Saddam is a bad guy. His Education secretary just said that the Teachers unions are terrorists. Karen Webb, Moore, Ok. Subj: mailbag 2/23 ...when will democracy mean more than your paycheck?? etc.etc. To the reader who wrote of this subject (above).....sic 'em! Go get'em!! What Bill Maher wrote, about being the only one fired over the terrorist activity, unfortunately, is true! To the reader in Colorado, regarding the death of Spot....you may have not been reading or watching the rightwing pundits back then, but does anyone except me remember the death of Buddy? The Clintons beautiful Chocolate Lab? Well, he was hit by a car while Bill and Hillary were vacationing in Mexico....but, at the time, the media was still giving him hell, over the trashing of the West Wing, the thefts from Air Force One, all of his pardons, etc...etc...and anything else they could find..All proved to be untrue, it was just a diversion to get Bush into the White house and get the dems to shut the hell up about the stolen election! Did not work! In fact, idiotic Tony Snow had to apologize...I saw it....and like Bill O'Reilly, he made a joke out of it..I cannot watch these idiots anymore...sorry! But, one of those pundits found that the Clintons had had a dog before that died, they never said how....but, it was "Weeeeeeeooooooo!" like the twilight zone... It died out like everything else that Clinton did, after the Supreme court crumbled! And, lately I have thought a lot about that. I wonder if Spottie died of a gunshot wound to the head....like every other death associated with this administration. Both the Enron and the Anderson 'suicides' were gunshot wounds to the head. Then there was Margie Schoedinger, the woman who filed the lawsuit against Bush for Sexual rape and battery...supposedly with others, he did this....and she shot herself! What a coincidence! Marvin Bush's housekeeper died in the driveway of a house, after her own car ran her down...very mysterious. There was a doctor, back after the Anthrax killer....who was in Memphis on a trip to St. Judes, a master of Biological science who just got out of his car, left it running on the bridge and jumped into the Mississippi...A woman who had made fake licenses for foreign flight students....was to testify in court the next day...ran her car right into a tree...and it was mysterious....smelled of gasoline way too much for a ordinary crash! She and the Doctor in the river had the same ME...strange goings on! (This also happened in Memphis) Then there is always that unsolved mystery of Joe Scarborough's aide, found dead in his office. Door unlocked, a couple coming to see the Congressman, found her dead on the floor. The ME in that case, was from Missouri, had been ousted from this state for lying in trials...he did the Autopsy of Lori Kalusitis though, and found nothing unusual. A heart thing that no one, not even her family or her husband knew about...and it went away, too! She was also a sprinter...ran in many 10k runs! And finally, to Ginkgo, I tend to agree with you to an extent....I feel so lost now that Howard Dean has been smashed..and God only knows, by whom....I have always felt that Gore lost the election himself. That super side show, with his wife at the convention....his separation from Clinton (that likely hurt him more than anything) his choice of Lieberman for a running mate. It was not enough that the Fox network, the most watched one at that time, dug up every kind of manure they could on him...but, I always felt that he chose Lieberman because he bragged about being the first senator to stand in the well of the senate and berate Bill Clinton for his behavior....there are so many things...and I see them happening all over again! Does anyone realize, at least up until last week, that Howard Dean was right behind Kerry in Delegates...? No, they never show his name anymore...whoever they are! They will show Sharpton's 1 delegate and Kucinich's 2, or vise versa....but, never the fact that until this horror started, that Dean had more delegates that did Edwards....This is the biggest mystery to me about this entire election season. I have no idea what happened....Dean was the front runner forever...then whammo he was not! I am confused if it was the Dems or the Reps...I do think that the Bush administration was scared to death of him! He would never back down...but, I will vote for the Democrat, no matter whom! And, so far as the Nader thing....I still have not had the time to figure that one out!! Shirley.........St.Louis Subj: Did I hear This right? Dear Buzz, I heard the other day that the 2004 BushCheney slogan is "Seedy Leadership While Swiping The Chump's Change." Please confirm. They may have lost their edge. John Westermann PS. hey, nice pix of Connman John Rowland with GWBush and chubbie Jebbie on MSNBC. Only goober missing was "Goodhead" Perry. Hi Gang! I just read the speech Shrub gave to the (Republicans only this time) governors' meeting. I'm wondering if somebody dropped him some really bad acid as we, the American people are certainly on a truly bad trip with his bizarre take on reality. Lets see...the gist of the speech is as follows... "Republican Rhetoric...Republican Rhetoric...Republican Rhetoric...Republican Rhetoric...Republican Rhetoric...Republican Rhetoric...Republican Rhetoric...Republican Rhetoric..." Oh, look, here's a real nugget...he praises Ronald Reagan's economic policies. Aren't those the same ones his father demonized and then adopted them himself? Weren't those the same policies that put our deficit in a tail-spin? Wait, there's more...he basically says his administration inherited a recession. As Vinny Barbarino often said, "Ha...Ha...Ha...Don't make me laugh." The jury has been out on that one for a very long time and we all know who the real culprit is. Now he's ragging about the military and the poor condition it was in when he came to office. I suppose outsourced soldiers and foreign-weapons rentals are what are still fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq? That's Clinton's military on the battlefield, folks. More references to 9-11, Iraq, and "good-natured" insults hurled at anyone who disagrees with him. Of course, anybody who really disagrees with him ends up in jail. Ahh...will you look at that...he's keeping Cheney on as V.P. Now, I wanted to close out with this paraphrased bit...the one about how "the other political party is dealing in anger, bitterness, and partisanship." Shrub displays his own arrogance and hatred by even refusing to say, "Democrats," trivializing Democrats by calling them, "the other party." Shrub displays his own hypocrisy by essentially saying that John Kerry, referred to by Shrub as a "senator from Massachusetts," has waffled on a number of issues. If I could count the times recently Shrub has waffled, I'd be up all night. You see, Shrubbie-Boy, Democrats are a flexible bunch of critters. When we know a previous position no longer applies, given the fluid nature of our country and the world around us, we change it. You and your Republi-Nuts friends write expansive doctrines and stick to them, no matter what the damage may be in the end. Now, taking a frolicking detour back to the part of "anger, bitterness, and partisanship," get this unwavering and unavoidable fact through that Texas Soufle' brain of yours - it isn't the politicians who are engaging in anger, bitterness, and partisanship. We, the American People, the one's you have lied to and deceived time and time again are. I'd like to close with this line from the movie, "Backdraft." "You see that little red light blinking in the corner of your eye? That's how much time you have left in your career and your career is just about up." A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Nader What is Ralph Nader's problem? He is the welfare prince. He has survived on donations to his nonprofit organizations for his entire life. He has never made a nickel in the free market economy. And when will the media finally start calling Rosy Glass Rumsfeld, " Baghdad Don"? "We're kicking their asses, everything is great!" A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: The situation in San Francisco I wrote this on the Official John Kerry Blog and I'm sending this to the BuzzFlash Mailbag as well, because I do think that this is a very important point that needs to be made, but that is being ignored because everyone is so afraid of the homophobes in America. I know that many Democratic officials are afraid of taking a stand on the things that are going on in San Francisco--but they (and we all) need to take them in context with what is happening in many American cities and states. In several California cities city councils have announced that they will not abide by the so-called "Patriot Acts", other cities are crying foul about voting machines without paper trails and against candidates that came in under their influence, still other God-fearing city and state governments are telling the president to shove his "no child left behind" program, where the sun don't shine. Just wait, in the near future states will be standing proud against Bush' ill-conceived "Clean Air" policies and his poisonous anti-water rules. What we have is a groundswell of activism at a level we have never seen before--at the city council level at the state level, for the first time in history those that actually know their constituents, those that actually know what their citizenry believes and needs; those elected officials are taking on the cumulative evils of a government that has run amuck and that will eventually destroy the environment, our children's futures and more importantly to people like Newton Gingrich, the Republican Party--for years to come---just as surely as FDR did so many years ago. So, no, the actions in San Francisco cannot be seen in isolation, because they are part of a much larger and growing discontent that even true conservatives are feeling. Gremlin, unless you feel that you have to use my real name, which is Xavier Lopez Jr. Subj: Repulsing the Attacks Dear BuzzFlash: As we all can see, the Republicans think they have a viable issue in attacking John Kerry's Senate votes over a twenty year career. Because Bush is an unread man, I say: turn this attack right around on them. Kerry should challenge Bush to a debate on each and every one of these legislative topics. Every time there was a Senate vote that Bush now attacks, Kerry should lay out the issues that were at stake at that time, and challenge Bush directly on them. For example, the DNC staff go through the Congressional record, pick out an argument that was made back then by a far right wing senator such as Jesse Helms or Phil Gramm or Trent Lott. Preface the Democratic argument by saying: " This was the Republican position on that particular bill at the time it was under debate: "......." How would you have voted on that one, Mr. Bush? Would you have supported Senator Kerry's position on the bill, or, would you have gone along with the right wing ideologues' position?" Why not put Bush on the spot by forcing him to accept or repudiate extreme Republican positions that were asserted in each one of those votes? I have followed Senator Kerry's career for twenty five years. He has always been a good Senator---no one has ever challenged that before. Why should he back down one iota on any single vote? Instead, let each and every one of those votes serve as a template for debate. Let's force these Republicans to stop hiding behind the trees, taking unfair potshots from far afield. Force them to go toe to toe on each and every Senate vote. Even Kerry's vote on Gulf War I is defensible. Why was Gulf War I supposed to be so great, if it allowed Saddam to remain in power, so as to lead to Gulf War II twelve years later? Didn't we make the same mistakes in World War I, which merely ended up planting the seeds for discord, which ultimately led to WW II? What about those thousands of veterans who came home very ill from the first Gulf War. Why did the government deny that they were even sick, and deny them health care? There is a treasure trove of issues here to be grappled with. Democrats never, ever have to run away from a position that they have taken. Instead, they should use those issues as both as sword and a shield, because we are much stronger than the Republicans on the substance of each one of these issues. Sometimes I think that that has been our problem over the years -- when the Republicans start coming after us on an issue, we cut and run rather than stand up and fight. Maybe this year things will be different. Donald P. Russo, Bethlehem, Pa. Subj: President's offensive remarks The President goes on the "offensive" by mocking those who gave him the benefit of the doubt about Iraq the Patriot Act. His reward to those who took him at his word that pre-war intelligence was solid, that the broad powers of the Patriot Act would not be abused is to deride them for withdrawing their support when it proved so clearly and disastrously misplaced. It seems only fitting that the most mendacious modern President, one who has made dissembling and hypocrisy political policies, should denounce those who thought him too honest to brazenly deceive them and too mindful of his oath of office to actively undermine the freedoms he has sworn to defend. Albert Clark, NY Subj: GREAT LINK: Republican Asteroid Excuse for Bush's Space War plans "Defending the Earth From a Doomsday Asteroid" Check out this link...look who its supporters are...funny, they never cared about asteroids before Bush's plans to develop weapons in space got the big thumbs-down! You could title the link something like, "GOP Using Asteroids to Sneak In Approval for Bush Administration's Space Wars Plan" Teresa Josette [BuzzFlash Note: Link went to AOL. We couldn't locate story anywhere else.] Subj: Voting Solutions With regard to electronic polling, I offer the following solutions. I think they will eliminate the cumbersome, error-prone paper systems, and insure open, accurate polling, without fear of elections being stolen. The technology for fast, accurate voting by machine, with each vote being recorded, confirmed immediately, and secured in the hand of the voter, is already in place –we use it in the sale of lottery tickets, for instance. These or similar systems could be easily adopted to polling methods. But first, the concept of secret voting is primary in a democracy, to insure free choice without coercion, and to prevent the possibility of candidates purchasing votes. Therefore, it is imperative that the votes of individuals remain private and not be exposed to public disclosure. So, how can we reconcile this necessary privacy with an open confirmation process whereby anyone could count all the votes themselves, and therefore insure accuracy? The answer is in unique serial numbers on printed receipts, produced by the machine at the time of voting (like lottery tickets have). One confirms the vote before leaving the polling place, and has a record of the vote. The entire vote can be published online (with the serial numbers shown), without revealing the names of voters. Thus, the vote can again be confirmed by individuals and any discrepancies would be obvious, and reportable. Newspapers, universities, or other interested public groups could download and count the votes to confirm their accuracy. With this process no one would be denied there own opportunity to confirm their vote, and all could rest assured that no vote has been rigged. Neil Reeder "Bush Backs Amendment Banning Gay Marriage" The founders had a Bill of Rights…the Christian right has its Bill of Wrongs…clearly there is a better use of our resources than amending our constitution to limit rights of our citizenry. Here is my letter to the Editor regarding the article, I found on BuzzFlash, about Homosexuals deserving death. I honestly did not think I could be shocked anymore, but this did it. ----- Original Message ----- From: Dorothy
Dedman This is the sickest, most twisted piece of writing I have seen for awhile. The Bible also says that any who works on the Sabbath shall be put to death. Should I expect God to take care of killing them, or should I stone them myself? Is it absolutely necessary that we rely on what various and sundry goat-herders said thousands of years ago, to decide who lives and who dies, like that is any of our affair in the first place? The Levitican law came out of the lived history of the Jewish people, it was not sent down in a lightening bolt.. Has it ever occurred to any of you that God makes Homosexuals just as God makes Heterosexuals. There are anywhere between 3 and 10% of people at any given time that tend strongly toward a homosexual orientation. Given some recent studies. it just may well be that Homosexuality, were it not so cursed by the goat herders, might just be God's own little version of birth control. We do know that when a mothers-to-be spend their entire pregnancy very stressed and anxious, as many women are these days, there is a positive correlation with the child being Homosexual. Maybe God figured that when the world begins frightening women to this degree, the population may well need to fall off - too many crazies present on the earth. There is another interesting and very loud silence by someone very important to me; that would be Jesus Christ. He said absolutely nothing on the subject that was ever recorded in any Gospel, Neither canonical nor non-canonical. As heavily influenced as Galilee was in those days by the Greeks, it does not stand to reason that it never came up. I know what Paul said, but I follow Christ, not Paul. So, tell me, do you now believe that God is calling Christians to kill Homosexuals? I know that Osama bin Laden would be glad to join forces with you. What is wrong with you people? The man has been a tireless champion for the rights of normal people for 30 years. I for one will not vote for him but he is not the reason Bush won in 2000 and he will not be the reason if he wins again in 2004. The reason Bush won is the failure of the Democrats to connect with the people who are not voting. These people are the poor and the young. With so much focus on the middle class in national politics those of us who make under $30,000 a year don't matter. They can pay lip service all they want but I don't feel bad for the middle class, they live in homes and own cars. The problem with the Democrats is that they have followed the Republicans in pandering to those who can give them money and have a car to put their bumper stickers on and yards to put their signs in. So enough Nader bashing, its not his fault that Bush won its the policies of both of our flawed parties. Paul Dobberstein P.S. I will vote for the Democrat but not happily Subj: Constitutional Amendment Dear BuzzFlash- There seems to be no end to what king george will try, and opening the constitution is just a ruse in order to make other changes, including ratifying the 16th amendment, which was never done. The issue of bans in the constitution is not about gay marriage, and is a very dangerous precedent. What else are they going to ban? If it begins, it will not end at just gays. Will there be a ban on Arabs, or Gypsies, or people with tattoos? And what if they don't like our political viewpoint, will we be banned as well? If the Democrats let this election get away from them it will be because they allow the repugs to "frame" the issues. They should not let this issue become a political football for Mr. Bush, and instead show what it really is, a freedom that is guaranteed by the separation of church and state. This year should be an easy win for the dems, if they will fight for what is right, and expose this bunch of neocons for what they really are. Ross Emison-Texas Subj: We Pick And Choose, so only the Poor will Lose. Hello, Today I was listening to the Diane Rhem show on NPR, where the subject was unemployment, outsourcing, jobs and the economy in general. As usual in the interest of balance they had some flack from the American Enterprise Institute defending the usual twaddle that things are going great and prosperity is just around the corner. Well the flack kept repeating his kill shot into the echo chamber..."ooooo-oooh the Democrats have no solutions" and he would rattle his chains a bit more, as usual not answering the questions, rather misdirecting. The fella says approximately " We cannot be protectionist", i.e. use tariffs to protect American jobs, "..because that is illegal under the GATT and the WTO". So we can drop out of, refuse to ratify or scoff at; the Kyoto treaty, the treaty to Ban Land Mines, the Anti Ballistic missile treaty, the Geneva Convention, the United Nations, the International Court, the Nuclear Test Ban..... have I forgotten any? However the GATT and the WTO are sacrosanct? Well when those rotten pieces of work were written the US of A was the big dog at the table and it was written to benefit the big dogs. Just a nice little charade for public consumption. See we just can't do anything for you po' folks because it would be against international law. Like our benevolent rulers give a crap about international law when they bomb the rest of the world with munitions. Or trade rules that are even more deadly for their sugar coating. Give it another couple of years, the third world status of the American underclass will be firmly established. Hell Yeah! Then we can all work for 50 cents an hour, enjoying the sweet smell of industrial solvents as we glue trinkets together for the international market. Playing both edges against the middle. Why are we surprised that anytime a citizen disagrees with policies or pronouncements from the Bush Administration, gets labeled a "terrorist"? The latest guffaw by Rod Paige continues to gloss over how he screwed over the Houston Unified School District for six years, and only because he's an African-American, Bush tapped the most unqualified educator for the Secretary of Education, an agency that Orrin Hatch and crew tried to eliminate during the Clinton Administration. We KNOW Bush continues to put unqualified individuals of near criminal background on our courts, in his Administration and then tries to tell the American people that despite their baggage, they can get the job done. How stupid does he think the American people are? The French aristocrats declared disdainfully to the masses of poor people to "Let them eat cake". The result was the French Revolution, because the poor claimed "We have no Cake!". If we citizens don't get Bush out of office in November, he will be saying to us "Let them eat cake" when we won't even have crumbs. Leutisha - loyal Buzz Flash reader and proud Liberal Subj: Wedge Issues Hello BuzzFlash, How low can this president slink to hold onto power? Now along with the usual race card, the Republicans have decided that they can inflame homophobic NASCAR dads with terrifying tales of gay marriage. If the Left lets Karl Rove frame this debate then the progressives deserve to lose. Thank You for your hard work. Rick Subj: Maureen Farrell I just finished reading Maureen Farrell's "The Nature of the Threat" (2-23-2004), and I would like to say how very much I enjoyed it and other articles she has written. Her arguments are clear, well laid out and persuasive (not on the basis of adjectives and hyperbole, but based on logical presentation of the facts). I look forward to future articles. Bravo Richard Ryndak Subj: GWBUSH re-election site and MASS letters to the editor GW Bush's re-election web site has a place that the GOP can click on a statement and insert it for e-mail. It lists samples of what the GOP wants you to say and then they e-mail it to all your local newspapers. No THINKING! NO need to know the issues, NO writing, ALL newspapers listed for your zip code area, just click and send! So watch for those mass produced letters to show up in your local papers. I visited the site, used the click and write, changed a sentence or two and BLASTED the No child left behind act, from Bushes own web site. Urge you to do the same. https://www.georgewbush.com/default.aspx Thanks, Sandi Vines Subj: Thanks for your excellent commentary on "The nature of the threat" Hi BuzzFlash, Thanks! for explaining in your commentary "The Nature of the Threat" why Joe Allbaugh -- so highly placed in the Bush 2000 campaign -- accepted the position of FEMA Director as if it were a Cabinet post. If Ollie North's plan for war were implemented, FEMA would be a Cabinet post!! A reader Subj: angry liberal's gay marriage rant hey BuzzFlash, first, kudos for the great work you do. i rely on your site to get real news. now... on to the constructive criticism. while i agree in principal with the angry liberal's rant on gay marriage, i feel that his approach is counterproductive. this issue is too important to be discussed in anger, period. while i'm angry at the proposed constitutional discrimination amendment, we cannot win this issue by yelling at each other. angry liberal's approach isn't going to change the minds of swing voters and true conservatives. i propose that we simply be honest and forthright. if the GOP wants to fall on the same side of history as the segregationists and the KKK, then by all means they should continue to discriminate against committed gay couples. the democratic party, however, values all american families, not just those who look like us. the same arguments being used against gay marriage were used by the segregationists to oppose interracial marriage. the slippery slope, protecting the institution of marriage... these are tired arguments which have been proven wrong throughout history. and if the democrats will just take a strong stand and reaffirm that they are the party of equal rights, we will win on this issue. we must paint the GOP's position for exactly what it is: bigotry. and we must use the historical references in order to accomplish that. tell me, what swing voter wants to be associated with the party of bigots? that is my argument, plain and simple. i would appreciate it if you'd take that into consideration. i am also going to cc the angry liberal in the hopes that he understands that while i agree with him, we need to use a different tactic and flip the debate. otherwise, we are going to get killed on this issue in the general election. respectfully, anna brosovic |
