Subj: President Nero If you read what I sent earlier, about how the Anthrax thing was perpetrated by people in the Government, who were incensed that the GOVERNMENT WAS NOT PAYING ATTENTION, what do you think of this- PRESIDENT NERO is CUTTING or IGNORING bio chemical detection and security, Postal Service Security, and deeply cutting federal grants to local police, fire and emergency rescue departments- first responders –by almost a billion dollars next year. President NERO has clearly lost his frigging MIND. Let's go to IRAQ, where there is nothing there, except OIL, which we KNEW. Let's go to MARS, where there is even LESS than there is in IRAQ, and no oil. But let's be sure and ignore the Domestic threat, which as far as I can see, is centered in TEXAS and WASHINGTON DC. And, uh, dear-- would you mind dropping these off at the Post Office for me ? David Subj: Awesome audio montage of Bush admin lies about WMDs This is from the Mike Malloy radio show and just blew my doors. Its one quote after another about the fictitious WMDs. A lot of them are from The Idiot, but it also includes all your favorite Bush administration criminals .. Rummy, Colin, Ari, Condi and the rest of the Bush crime gang. Mike says we are free to save this and pass it around all we want! (please be sure to give credit and include a courtesy link to www.mikemalloy.com ) You gotta hear this, its incredible! Enjoy! Kelley Subj: Mailbag 2/5 Laurie...and whomever else, wrote about Howard Dean. I feel everything you are saying, all I can do is vote and I feel truly helpless now! I have been with him since I first saw him....and now, I fear it is over already. The media killed him, along with a likely administration who is frightened to death of his straight talk!! I had hope when Gore came out and endorsed him,...but it did not last long....once the scream thing happened, even though it was later explained by at least one pundit.....no one ever recovered, really....And, I really think he was the front runner! But, look at the boob thing with Jackson....it was played likely as many times as the "Dean Scream" and people who would have been for him before, just like Travis of Collinsville said, changed their minds...."He's angry"...so many people, even good democrats who believe in the American Way....changed their minds to someone who could beat Bush....danger is: Once, Kerry is the nominee, he will be crucified, and he may buckle to the right wing!!! I still have hope, but it is waning!!! Shirley......St.Louis PS: Take a look at what the Boob thing has done...an actual episode on ER has been changed because they were accidentally showing the breast of an 80 year old woman during a medical procedure....they are changing things ....it is the Media, folks...that along with a crooked administration! HELP!!!!!! Subj: Boob-Mania Dear Buzz, I'm sure relieved they're investigating Janet's breasts. We'll find those WMD's yet! Rob Moitoza Subj: UNCOVERED - A GREAT MOVIE Dear Buzz, I just watched the move "UNCOVERED" and was quite impressed with the way it was presented. It is so startling to see Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, Powell and others make such lying statements before the war, with conviction and certainty. It is only when all these statements are shown in a collective manner, that the impact of the all the lies hits you. Many of the statements made by this lying bunch have been forgotten by the people. I really wish someone would show this movie on television for the whole nation to see. I recommend this movie to BuzzFlash fans, it is certainly worth watching. A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: the rights wrongs I am getting so pissed off at the right wing-who is actually supposed to want less government---trying to have the government do everything. They don't want the government helping the poor or teaching our kids, or doctoring our sick...no, they want to regulate what you can or cannot see on television, they want to tell a woman if she can or cannot have control of her body, they want to regulate states rights about marriage between who. The government with the patriot act takes away some of our freedoms-they used it to get northwest and jet blue airlines passenger lists from years gone by. I have never seen a Democrat vote for so much government interference in my life. Someone needs to either have a tax boycott against this government..they won't even let DC have representation and they pay taxes. Or, the right needs to pick a few states in America and live there exclusively. They can live in their ivory towers...and live only by their rules, and not have to be bothered with anyone's ideology except theirs. You know what is funny, they don't act "Christian" like at all. They are hateful, intolerant and selfish. karin dicker Subj: Just gag me who is lying? that liner on the bottom of the screen on cnbc says the meet the press interview with bush will (be live) from the oval office on sunday..........the drudge report is saying it will be taped on saturday........this administration is just surrounded with lies everywhere even when there is no reason for lies! Subj: My newest premium Buzz: I received my newest BuzzFlash premium:" Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them "by Al Franken a couple of days ago. It's hilarious!! It's an easy and great read and those of you who can't decide which premium you want to get from this site, I strongly recommend this one. Dee Turner ( an ABB enthusiast) Re: Cynical Analysis of Dubya's Ace-in-the-Hole Buzz: Assemble the puzzle pieces: 1. Reports over the past two years that bin Laden is hiding in Pakistan's tribal region. 2. Whisperings, and outright assertions, that bin Laden will be captured prior to the November elections. 3. The ongoing investigation of Pakistani scientists selling nuclear weapons technology to terrorist-supporting governments. 4. Yesterday's confession from the head of the Pakistani nuclear weapons program that he, in fact, sold the technology to Iran, Libya, and North Korea. 5. "Pakistan has been guilty of some of the worst crimes of nuclear weapons proliferation ever committed. For some 15 years it has been supplying atomic bomb technology to rogue states and sponsors of terrorism." Washington Post, 2/5/2004, http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A14272-2004Feb4.html 6. Musharraf's plan to pardon the "perpetrator" 7. The scientist's prior statements that he was authorized to transfer nuclear technology by the Pakistani military. 8. Musharraf was formerly the head of the Pakistan military; that is, before the coup that elevated him to President. 9. "Were Pakistan not a professed ally of the United States, its behavior would meet the criteria for preemptive military intervention outlined in Mr. Bush's national security strategy. He is not contemplating such action..." Ibid. 10. Circle back: Musharraf has been harboring bin Laden for two years. 11. These recent revelations have doubtless been the topic of National Security briefings to Dubya over a considerable period of time. 12. Bingo! Dubya's nefarious plan to "capture" bin Laden in time to ensure his re-election. (Refer to number 2 above.) Cynical analysis? Sharon Andrews Sent to NY Observer: Subj: Just Deserts... Dear Observer (and especially Mr. Conason): With regards to Mr. Conason's news story about George W. Bush's military record published on February 2nd, 2004, entitled "Bush's War Stories Simply Don't Fly" (http://www.observer.com/pages/story.asp?ID=8528#), I most respectfully disagree with the author's conclusion that "To call [Bush] a "deserter" was wrong...." As an Army officer since 1987, with 5 years on active duty and several more years as a member of the Washington Army National Guard, I can tell you that service members in the Guard and Reserves who fail to report for required drill are rarely prosecuted for going absent without leave (AWOL) or desertion. Although things have changed recently these days because Mr. Bush is sending Guard and Reserve members to war, the failure to prosecute in the past was due to a lack of resources to pursue errant service members. Basically, under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), in the Guard and Reserves, a service member who, without permission, fails to report for drill is designated AWOL for the first three months. After that time, continued failure to report would describe that person as a deserter. My four year's experience during the 1990s as a personnel officer for both a National Guard battalion and brigade was that our chain of command never (yes, NEVER)prosecuted soldiers for going AWOL or for desertion. Usually, the soldier was administratively discharged with a "general" discharge (a discharge that is not as proper as a "honorable" discharge, but still permits the soldier to claim veterans' benefits status). That a service member is not prosecuted as a matter of law for going AWOL or desertion does not change the fact that he was AWOL or deserted. These are the circumstances under which Mr. Bush concluded his military service to the United States. Given the silver platter treatment he received as the son of George H. W. Bush to be commissioned in the Texas Air National Guard, it is no surprise that "W" walked away with an honorable discharge rather than a general one. Moreover, "W" also failed to report for his required annual flight physical (which every pilot knows is a requirement of duty), so, under the UCMJ, he was also "derelict in his duty" during this same period. George W. Bush, the alleged commander-in-chief of the United States Armed Forces is, in fact, a deserter from his post as U.S. Air Force officer in the Texas Air National Guard. In an effort to ameliorate the seriousness of this charge, one can argue that he was not prosecuted and that he got an honorable discharge. But, that is as good as it gets. And it does not change the facts. No apology from Michael Moore is needed. Rather, Peter Jennings and the rest of big broadcast media need to get their collective heads out of their ... well, as we paratroopers would say, "their fourth points of contact." Airborne! Robert E.
Olson,
The problem with Tenet's statement is that it was worded SO AMBIGUOUSLY that it actually has a GOOD chance of HELPING Bush. (which I HOPE NOT) It was the MOST waffling and OPEN-TO-INTERPRETATION thing I have heard in a LOOONG time, possibly even more so than what previously has come out of the mouth of Colin Powell and what just about ALWAYS comes out of the mouth of Scott McClellan. Steven
Stokes Subj: It could be a plan Democrats have the ability to win BUT ONLY IF THEY UNITE... the last thing the REPUGLICANS want to see is each candidate who drops out of the race ACTIVLY PROMOTING THE REMAINING CANDIDATES. This is especially important in their "AREA OF FAME", which could be the north, south, internet, blacks, jewish, women, etc. If each candidate, as he drops from the race, would go to his MAJOR BACKERS and states where he has some clout and continue to support the remaining candidate... here is what would happen...... 1. the democrats would win 2. the leaving candidate would be seen as a team player for the party I would like to see those who have already dropped out make such a move. I would also like to see the remaining candidates grab centrist-stage to win the election...and return to the center-left when we own the white house. Be well Marty Subj: Pakistan Duh? The entire time our intelligence was screwing up Iraq, Pakistan has emerged as the "nuclear" proliferators of the decade. Bush and Co. have not only been operating without a clue, they have been having a "pajama party" with the guys who are supposed to be searching for Osama. If this gets anymore f**ked up, I will have to leave this half baked excuse for what used to be a democratic republic and find a place where, at least before I'm screwed, I have some warning. Getting mean in Georgia, Amanda Subj: Couple o' things Hey Buzz: I just read that Bush is planning to appoint John McCain to head up the pre-war Iraq intelligence investigation. Now I like McCain well enough... I mean, at least, he's a Republican who seems to have some principles and whose stands sound, well, like familiar Republican stands rather than the loony-tunes expand-govt-and-spend-a-lot-and-deny-states-rights-and-legislate- legislation stuff the neo-cons spew. But I just saw McCain on The Daily Show the other night, and he ended his semi-Bush-critical interview by saying he was about to fly back to Arizona to stump for, yes, that's right, Bush. So Bush is naming a Republican who will look feisty and objective to the critics but who in the end will come through for the mean little liars in the White House. I mean, shouldn't Bush at least name someone who's not actively out campaigning on his behalf? Just asking. On a different topic, I read today that the proposed White House budget contains provisions for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve. I almost blew a gasket! Unbelievable. Hasn't Congress already voted that down in various forms something like three times already??? But Bush simply will not abide by governmental process and accept "No" as an answer. Look at how he named twice-rejected Judge Pickering to the U.S. Court of Appeals when Congress was out of session and how he slid the Congress-rejected FCC media expansion change and the Congress-rejected overtime pay elimination into the ombudsman bill they had to pass at the end of the year in order to keep the government running. He is like a three-year-old who won't take no for an answer and who always blurts out, "It wasn't me, he/she/they did it" when he gets in trouble. A so very disgusted BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Will Did anyone catch George Will this morning on Imus in the Morning on MSNBC? He was trying to cover Bush's ass on the WMD issue. He said: "Imminent is not a black and white term". In other words, it is according to what the meaning of "imminent" is. I loved it! Tom in West Virginia Subj: Improper Dress My opinion only, put I think it is poor taste for the women to wear skirts so SHORT that is really not necessary to wear any at all (that is how short it is). No professional office see women with any snap at all, dress as unprofessional as they do on News TV. Why do they have to dress like some 16 year old in high school. Grow up Fox the women are to aged to wear that kinda of attire. Betty B, Sugar Land Texas Subj: "The Last Chance Democracy Cafe" I read "The Last Chance Democracy Cafe" by Steven C. Day with great interest and enjoyment. These are complex issues, and the story attempts to frame them in terms an ordinary person can understand, if they want to. We need to reach everyone. Thanks BuzzFlash, for all your good works. JH Brandt Subj: Lies Dear BuzzFlash, It's time for someone to make a commercial similar to one made during the Clinton period -- WHAT ARE WE GOING TO TELL OUR CHILDREN ABOUT THE PRESIDENT'S LIES? The sad situation is that this a whole administration FULL of liars. Try explaining that to our children! Sue in Florida Subj: SCALIA AND CHENEY SITTING ON A TREE.......!
Dear Buzz, (In)Justice Scalia flying on Air Force 2 with Cheney, and spending time duck hunting with him is outrageous. How can anyone expect him to be impartial at Cheney's forthcoming energy litigation at the supreme court? Isn't there a conflict of interest? There should not be even the slightest hint of any impropriety in such an important issue, and I am disgusted at the way this administration keeps doing the dishonest thing, and it seems that they are getting bolder and bolder about it, as they are not being held accountable. Injustice Rehnquist also needs his head examined for saying that Scalia does not have to recuse himself. The five injustices are primarily to be blamed for handing the presidency to Bush, who has made a big mess of things in the country. I often wonder how they sleep at night without their conscience bothering them. DOES ANYONE WANT TO BET HOW SCALIA WILL RULE ON CHENEY'S CASE? A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Osama Dear BuzzFlash, Has anyone considered that maybe the reason we haven't seen a videotape of Osama Bin Laden is because HE IS ALREADY IN CUSTODY? I'm sure we could find ways to make him record audio tapes, but a video would surely reveal that he was under duress. Anyone want to bet that he will be brought in dead rather than alive? Sue in Florida Subj: Rummy..on the hot seat......2/5 I watched Rumsfeld being questioned by the pseudo panel today about his take on the phony WMD....He was like all the rest...they are maybe the best doublespeakers I have known in my lifetime. It kills me that they actually made a joke of Bill Clinton, saying, it all depends on what the meaning of 'is' "is'! This bunch does not know what the meaning of "imminent threat" is, or the meaning of 'stockpiles' is...or the meaning of 'drones' that could go unmanned to a far off place, and carry NU-KU-LAR weapons, in 45 seconds. They have no idea of what if means to lie to an entire world about imminent danger.....we will be welcomed with open arms..NOT! We will be praised as liberators...NOT! It will be done fast NOT...certainly' not unless you call 10 months and 520 dead americans, 3000 maimed americans and another 6000 (a guess) dead and innocent iraqis! Well, one thing I can say to the idiots now....is....Ask yourself, did Clintons lie kill anyone!? That'll shut 'em up every time!!! Shirley...........St.Louis Subj: Questions for Tim Russert Hi Buzz, Here're a few questions for Tim Russert re President Bush's appearance to take place this Sunday on Meet the Press: 1. Will the questions you'll be asking Bush have been seen by him in advance and his answers rehearsed beforehand? 2. Will he be wearing an earpiece pumping in the answers and/or large cue cards off screen with the answers in case his earpiece malfunctions? 3. Are you going to ask any hard questions, or will this just be another staged, Bush campaign stump to try to convince us he's actually capable of leading the country, when everything he has done in office to date screams to the contrary? A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: AWOL Bush The Bush White House is disingenuously defending Bush from being AWOL by attacking the accusers as well as stating that Bush received an Honorable Discharge. It is important to remember that George Sr. was a former Republican congressman, Ambassador to the U.N. (1971, appointed by Nixon) and GOP National Chairman (1973). Can you imagine what would have happened to any Alabama National Guard Officer that (rightfully) brought charges against the AWOL Bush. They would have kissed their career good-bye. Junior was a proud self-proclaimed member of the Champaign Corp, a terrible pilot who was a danger to anyone who flew with him or near him. The Alabama National Guard was probably glad to be rid of him. Also, there must be hundreds of former officers and enlisted who would have had contact with him - IF he was there. Let's hear from them. G.G. p.s. Let's also hear about National Guard members who were also AWOL at that time and what happened to them. Subj: Irresponsible Dimwits Buzz, Powell is more than absurd when he said he might not have backed the war if he had known Iraq had no banned weapons. "If the CIA director, George Tenet, told him a year ago what we now know, that there were no stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons in Iraq, would he have advised President George Bush to go to war? 'I don't know,I don't know because it was the stockpiles that presented the final piece that made it more of a real and present danger. The absence of a stockpile changes the political calculus.'" Was it not his and the rest of the cabal's job to know whether or not Iraq had WMDs? Before they invaded a defenseless country? Before they bellowed to the world that Iraq possessed non-existent WMDs? Is this not what we pay these bozos tons of money to know? BuzzFlashers and the millions around the world who protested DimSon's invasion before it even started, all knew there were no WMDs & that these guys were lying - and we don't get paid one red nickel for that knowledge! Powell, Rice, DimWit - all these guys are no more credible in their backpeddling now than they were making hyped, unfounded claims before the invasion. They should all quit since they are so incompetent! T Quigly Subj: Frist vs. CS Knowing Bill Frist was once a physician almost makes me consider taking up Christian Science. Larry P "The last chance cafe" by Steven Day is just fantastic. Day puts everything into perfect perspective. Maryann Subj: last chance for d. cafe hi folks! really enjoyed steven`s new series last chance democracy cafe! peace, bunkie. Re: BuzzFlash Sets a New Monthly Record! And don't forget ... Good news travels fast (BuzzFlash is about the ONLY good news to read these days.) Keep up the great work! Terry Subj: 6 out of the 7 Mass Supreme Court justices were appointed by Republicans Posted this to the democrats.com forum. Thought you could let everyone know this. Basically they were asking for questions that should be asked of Bush. Here's my questions:
Subj: Where are the bodybags? Dear BuzzFlash Readers, Will there be an investigation of how this administration has colluded with the corporate media into why the American people are not seeing the return of our fallen troops from Iraq? This question has also not been discussed by the Democratic candidates. We have not seen the body bags or the funerals or the interviews with families who have lost loved ones. Surely, this smells of collusion between the "free" press and the administration that violates the constitution and the democracy that continues to evaporate before our eyes. Please demand that the Democratic candidates raise this question and seek an independent investigation of this travesty. Richard
Nogaj Subj: Paper Ballots in Palm Beach??? Not if Jeb can prevent it…hearing today.
Kate Subj: Oct. Surprise Do you think Musharraf of Pakistan is getting away with nuclear proliferation because he has the keys to Osama's cave and therefore the key to Bush's re-election? For a superpower, we seem to be awfully weak with certain people. Larry King Subj: Michael Powell and Janet's breast Hi BuzzFlash...!! FCC Chairman Michael Powell has been a very busy man lately. Janet Jackson's breast was clearly more than he could handle. He immediately launched an FCC investigation to discover how a breast found itself bouncing around his airwaves, which are usually reserved for gratuitous acts of violence, and the corporate reconstruction of our reality. How many millions of our tax dollars is Mr Powell going to squander on his hunt for the cause behind the outing of one of Janet's top agents? Maybe he could hire Kenneth Starr to sniff around Janet's drawers for oh, lets say 50 million or so.... Does Mr. Powell really imagine that Americans are depraved enough to see the glimpse of a mammary gland as more dangerous to the welfare of the United States than Mr Powell's own recent efforts to dismantle our First Amendment rights? The damage done to the people by his weakening of the already insufficient limits on media monopolies is far more pernicious than Janet's televised anatomy lesson could ever be. How strange that a human breast can turn Powell into such a raging moralistic tiger, and yet the selling of our airwaves into the hands of a few monster corporations leaves him purring like an overstuffed pussycat. Mr Powell, we don't want our only windows on the world controlled by the likes of Rupert Murdoch and Clear Channel. You and your FCC have blatantly betrayed America's trust in appointing Fox as guardian of the henhouse of America's information. Yes, Janet showed her baby bottle. But it is you Mr. Powell who has disgracefully exposed himself, by shamelessly unzipping your corporate fly and relieving yourself all over our First Amendment. Mr Powell, you are the one who should be investigated - for corruption in using your FCC post to help foster mega-media monopolies, and helping destroy the laws ensuring the People's right to an unabridged free press and free airwaves. David Singelyn Subj: Bush Names His Mom to McCain McCommission Dear Buzz, Seriously. Why not just name Former First Lady Barbara Bush to serve on the McCain McCommission? I heard Presidential brother Neil Bush has already volunteered to make his DNA available to weapons investigators, as long as he's handing it out to everybody else? "Happy to do it for George," he said. " I know he'd do it for me." John Westermann PS. When does Michael Powell go after his daddy for filling the airwaves with the kind of horse-manure that gets soldiers killed? Subj: C-Span Dear BuzzFlash, I strongly suspect that many of the callers to C-Span's Washington Journal are BuzzFlash readers. Those who call in on the Democratic line tend to be people who are well informed on the issues under discussion, but I am constantly shocked at the number of Repugs who call in just to say " I support my president --- he's such an honest man." Have these people been living under a rock, or are they just so invested in the person they voted for that they are unwilling to admit that they were suckered?? Human nature makes it hard for us to admit mistakes, but when the overwhelming evidence has surfaced, how can they be in such complete denial? Anyway, here's hoping fellow BuzzFlashers will continue to call C-Span often. What a great way to demonstrate that we are informed on the issues! Keep up the good work! Sue in Florida Subj: Dear BuzzFlash, The media is trying to divert attention away from the jobless economy and focus attention on the gay marriage issue. Everyone should write to their Congressman and Senators about this jobless economy. Letters should be sent daily to all four networks (if you can consider Fox News a network) demanding coverage of the jobless nature of our country. Companies are going overseas for cheaper labor and higher profits at the expense of American workers. American workers have fallen off the unemployment rolls and are no longer a statistic. Congress did not approve another extension for unemployed people in December. It is now February and nothing is being done. The Republicans are hiding behind "moral" issues again. They do not deal with these issues until it is election time. So wake up America! We are losing our way of life while Bush totally ignores the American working class. One of the many unemployed BuzzFlash Readers Subj: I heard Nader, yesterday I was told by a Kucinich campaign woman that he had an agreement with Nader that he would not run. I hope she didn't mean that if we didn't vote for Kucinich Nader will run. I heard Nader say yesterday he would be letting the world know soon if he would and considered people asking him not to run an invasion of his rights of free speech. Hello, Mr. Free Speech who couldn't have helped Bush more if he had campaigned for him. I am not sure I have ever heard a more arrogant, self-centered speech in my life. If he runs, don't send me one item about him and if you vote for him don't tell me. He is so damned full of himself he thinks we deserve another 4 years of Bush. If he runs, he sure as hell won't be taking any votes from Bush, so if you vote for him it is a vote for Bush. It was in 2000 and it will be in 2004. We either give him the country or he will wreak havoc on us forever. Karen Webb, Moore, Ok. Subj: A GREAT idea! Dear Buzz, I'd like to address Christopher Volkstorf 's great idea to have all the Dem candidates run as a team: with Kerry (or Dean?) as President, Clark as Sec. of Defense, Braun as Secretary of State, Edwards as VP (?) and Kucinich as Peace Minister (I love that!), etc. I believe this revolutionary tactic would surprise, delight and ultimately GAVANIZE this country, which has been torn apart by the language of Hate, Fear, and Disunity that the Bush misadministration has poisoned the world with these past three years. Can you imagine it? The entire country routing for a TEAM.....a team of all-star players, each one giving up their egos and agendas and putting the action where their words have been. I hate to use a sports metaphor but I'll bet the Nascar Dads would appreciate this team mentality, Soccer Moms would cheer, and the under-served minorities would root for the underdog team who, with much less money, no media manipulation powers, and just the Truth and Conviction of their Ideas would kick the bastards out of the White House before half time. I LOVE your idea, Christopher, and I sure hope Kerry, Dean, Edwards et al are reading BuzzFlash. ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION, CANDIDATES? HOW BADLY DO YOU WANT TO WIN? Since Dean has already changed campaigning forever through his innovative use of the Internet, why not go all the way and REALLY START A REVOLUTION? TAKE BACK OUR ELECTORAL PROCESS AND MAKE IT BETTER. Second, I've had this nagging thought ever since I read about the possibility that they already have Bin Laden in custody: Surely, there MUST be some person who, if he knows that Bin Laden has been captured and is being held for purely political/election purposes, that person MUST have a heart, a conscience...my God, could someone literally stand by and allow the Idiot in Thief to deny justice and closure to the THOUSANDS of Americans who lost loved ones on 9-11? Are there people that callous, shallow, and yes, evil? that they would stand by and keep quiet about this? Who is guarding Bin Laden? Where is he being held? You know, I watched the news reel when they pulled Saddam out of his spider hole. CNN was interviewing a very young American soldier who said (paraphrasing): "Well, we just surrounded him, he came out with his hands up and said: " I am Saddam Hussein, president of Iraq." That young soldier looked extremely uncomfortable, and said his " lines" as if memorized from a script. I noticed also that he did not look into the camera, and he spoke in a monotone (no emotion, which would be strange coming from someone who just successfully completed a dangerous mission). I hope that whoever is holding Bin Laden will wake up, do the heroic thing, and leak that info. That will put the FINAL nail in Bush's campaign coffin within one news cycle and save this country from the ruin that will be certain if he steals this election, too. elaine in Petaluma In response to Paul Krugman's Feb. 6th article, "Get Me Rewrite!" The on-going level of administration double-speak on WMDs in Iraq is frightening. For those of us who have truly had enough, one under-reported story that would be central to any future historical record offers us hope: the Katharine Gun case. The British whistleblower's exposure of a US National Security Agency secret memo that outlined a "dirty tricks" spy campaign on UN members to gain votes in support of the war is a damning piece of hard evidence against the policies of Bush and Blair. How can we stand the battle over the language used to describe Saddam's threat and choose to keep from public scrutiny this illegal and immoral collaboration? Watergate pales in comparison.... Through a recent UPI press release, Daniel Ellsberg and other prominent Americans have attempted to bring media attention in support of Ms. Gun. This 29 year old British woman of conscience who attempted to stop the war resolution by leaking the memo has set the standard. We cannot afford to wait for history to record these events. In the interest of truth, freedom and democracy, it is time to stand and be counted. The world is watching. Complete background on the Katharine Gun case can be found at the Institute for Pubic Accuracy at www.accuracy.org. Sincerely, Nancy Parker Subj: The Dream Administration Christopher Volkstorf's idea is wonderful. I'd just like to add one more post - Secretary of Alternative Energy headed by Al Gore. We really must be addressing the issue of Peak Oil immediately. We've already lost three years due to the oil barons being in charge. A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: A plea for continued support of democratic nominee Dear BuzzFlash, I'm very concerned that once the democratic nominee is selected, if it isn't Howard Dean, then all, or many, of Dean's supporters will become disgusted and go silent and withdraw their efforts at putting a democrat in the White House. We all know how much Howard Dean has done for the democratic party. A huge undercurrent of angry people were just waiting for a leader to take up the banner and stand up to the bullies in charge, and Dean answered their call. A movement was born. In the past year, he has done more to reinvigorate the party and fire up the grassroots than anything the democratic party establishment in Washington has done in many years. We all know that the party honchos are all feeding from the same trough, and they don't want to bite the hand that feeds them. This country owes Dean a huge debt of gratitude for being one of the first and most outspoken critics, also including Dennis Kucinich, of Bush and his minion republican gremlins in Congress. Dean's literally given the party new life and brought in many eager, young, new faces. It was disgusting and shameful what the media did to him with the "Iowa Scream". They used tabloid tactics to sabotage his campaign because they didn't want him to be the nominee. They should hang their heads in shame for the damage they did to his campaign, damage from which he will probably not recover. Some of the networks were pressured into apologizing and setting the record strait, but of course the damage was already done. The bastards who pulled this stunt are a cheap lot. But, to all of Dean's supporters out there working hard and giving your sweat, blood, tears and hard earned money, please don't abandon the fight to send Bush packing. Please don't letter bitterness cause you to lessen your push to remove Bush and his gang of thugs. It's so important that all the effort that you've given to Dean be continued, no matter who the nominee is. In my opinion, Dean has earned his place in the next administration. If he doesn't get the nomination, he certainly deserves a cabinet position and we can work to see that he is rewarded. We've got some good people in this race, and the next government would do well to include all of them in key positions. But, please don't lose sight of the big picture, which is removing Bush, Cheney, Perle, Wolfy, Rice, Rumsfeld, etcetera. We are being presented with a decision: choose the high road and move back into some sense of sanity in government, or choose the low road and go over the cliff for good. There's more at stake here than which democrat is in the White House in 2005. Please, don't go home mad and sit this one out if Dean isn't the nominee. With your continued support, the era of Bush will soon be over and the democrats can then hold them accountable, but without your support, the next four years will be the worst this country has seen in a very long time, maybe ever. Stay united as a grassroots effort and fire the liars. A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Honor and Dignity George Bush promised to restore honor and dignity to the White House while complaining that Bill Clinton had the Lincoln bedroom for sale to political donors. We got lies, deceit, stonewalling of the 9/11 investigation and the whole country up for sale to political donors. Now we have Mark Racicot of the Bush campaign stating how shocking that the dems are questioning the National Guard service of of G. Bush who he says served with honor (there's that word again). Leaving aside how many meetings were skipped, I would like to hear from Racicot as to: 1.Was it honorable for GW to use political connections to jump ahead of 500 on the waiting list to get into the Guard? Bear in mind that this reply should fully satisfy any family member of one of those on the list who got drafted, sent to VietNam and came home in a body bag. Be sure to copy Dan Quayle. 2.Was it honorable for GW to skip his required annual physical, disqualifying him from further flying, and claiming that he did so because he was in Alabama and his physician was in Houston?Your reply should explain the omission of the fact that flight physicals must be done by a military flight surgeon..not a personal physician. Feel free to tell us that GW forgot due to inattention to detail,a lack curiosity, excessive use of alcohol and or drugs or some other honorable explanation. 3. Was it honorable to state in his biography that he continued to fly with his squadron for many years? This reply should bear in mind that getting high is not the same as flying. Look forward to your reply. Perhaps in the near future we can discuss "weapons of mass destruction program related activities." Len Roessler |
