Re: Daschle is a 75% Bushite

Hi Buzz,

I have been a long time adherent to the concept that it is nice to have a nice guy doing a nice job theme but overriding that it is more important to have a guy who is effective. When Tom failed to insist on a full open 911 investigation on an early 'request' from the administration the nice guy luster gave way to the cave-in guy, and he has been the 75% caver-iner ever since.

If your recent editorial can be interpreted to be a call for action then let's get a sign on petition going and get Tom out of there. Nice guys finish last, our job is to get someone in that role who will not drag the rest of us down with him.

Best,

Cole...

Subj: Daschle and Bush

Bush has repeatedly said, "you're either with us or against us". There is one context where I agree with that statement, and it is in regards to Tom Daschle and the leadership of the Democratic Party.

Tom, you're either with us (the Democrats) or against us. Make up your mind. But you can't be with Bush 75% of the time and also with the Democrats, so it seems you've already chosen.

Forget about Tom stepping down. Democrats in the Senate need to fire Daschle, because he's not "with us", he's with Bush.

Subj: Tom Daschle

I live in SD and vote for Tom Daschle and he definitely takes care of the people in SD and that is his job. I can't believe that you are running him down..He is the most honest person in Washington DC.Why do you run him down--You must be a Republican..although a lot of Republicans here also do vote for him...

Subj: More Afghan children die in raids

These guys are killing more kids than the Taliban!

Rumsfeld thinks it's OK. He calls dead civilians collateral damage, like a house or Bridge etc. Someone ought to inform him that Afghani kids are no different than ours. they laugh, they cry and when hurt they bleed, the blood of these children cover the hands of G.W. Bush and all those Americans who support him! In Afghanistan he told us he was going to get Bin Laden Dead or alive. He made no mention of the Taliban or innocent civilians!

And Rumstad's Pentagon wonders why the suicide rate by our military in Iraq and Afghanistan is so much higher than during Viet Nam, Korea and WW-2?

Add to the suicides, thousands of Americas sons and daughters who have been evacuated back to the states with serious psychiatric problems!

"Bush Lies and our troops die!"

"Bush Lies and Afghani Children Die!"

Subj: Old King Coal

Ancient history? Fast-forward to 2003: Griles, now in an even more senior position at Interior, is being investigated by the department's inspector general for allegedly violating an ethics agreement. That investigation offers a fresh opportunity to look at Griles' 20-plus-year career as an industry-friendly political appointee and high-powered industry lobbyist. That career appears to have had one primary focus: get government out of the regulation business -- and when you can't do that, get mining executives into government regulation [Salon.com]

When the oil, coal and gas industries poured millions of dollars into George W. Bush's presidential campaign, J. Steven Griles was exactly what they were paying for. He's a perfect embodiment of the Bush administration's "never met an energy company we didn't like" stance -- and its revolving-door connection between an industry eager to slip free of government rules and a government eager to betray the public good. But then it's no surprise someone like Griles would receive a warm embrace from the Bush team; after all, it is packed to the brim with energy-industry insiders -- from National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice to Vice President Dick Cheney to President Bush himself.

Subj: Cuts for the developmentally disabled

Dear BuzzFlash,

Could you find something on what arnold is doing to the developmentally disabled? While ABC news (the disneyland news network) was busy filming the 4 million dollar wedding, they seemed to miss the demonstration in Sacramento where developmentally disabled children were asking arnold to please keep funding for them. We are loosing our in-home service funding for our disabled (downs syndrome - severe) child. It seems that these cuts will only cause some families to give up their children to a state-run institution. It just isn't right!!

I just don't seem to understand the way republicans think.

Thank you so much for listening. I really respect you guys!!

Best,

John

Subj: Letter I sent to the DNC re Daschle; the more the merrier!

Dear BuzzFlash:

Below is a letter (well, e-mail message, actually) that I sent to the DNC regarding Senator Daschle. I urge other BuzzFlash readers to make their concerns known to the DNC as well -- perhaps a flood of letters will prompt action where complaining amongst ourselves will not.

Better yet, I'd love to see us all pledge to make a contribution to the party -- $20, $50, $100, whatever your budget allows -- the moment Daschle steps aside. That might get their attention!

Sincerely,

Karen Pasley
Columbia, MO

************original message************

Dear DNC:

It has been painfully apparent for too long now that Tom Daschle, while doubtless a nice man and conscientious Senator for South Dakota, is worse than a failure as Senate Minority Leader. Time and again, he has sought to compromise with and accommodate an administration (and Republican leadership in Congress) that clearly has no intention of compromising. As Bush and Co. ram an aggressively right-wing agenda down our throats, Daschle has stood by nearly idle. His lack of support for a filibuster on the Medicare bill was shameful. As an observer on BuzzFlash commented, "His vote against the Medicare prescription drug legislation was a mere exercise in futility once the filibuster failed. And then for him to go on the Daily Show and whine about how terrible it was that the thing passed was so hypocritical it makes me ill to remember it." I couldn't agree more.

And now, to take the cake, we see his campaign manager, Steve Hildebrand, boasting to the Rapid City Journal that "a Congressional Quarterly study has Sen. Daschle voting with President Bush 75 percent of the time"!! In other words, we're to rejoice that Sen. Daschle has allowed one of the most destructive presidents in American history to get his way 3/4 of the time. This is a gross insult to Democrats all across the country.

If the DNC believes what it says about President Bush having to go, then it needs to put pressure on Sen. Daschle to step aside immediately. We need to oppose President Bush on all fronts, not grease the skids for his agenda of corporate giveaways, environmental travesties, and civil liberties violations. Give us a Senator with a backbone (and a safe seat) who can stand up to Bush and his Republican lackeys in the Senate. Otherwise, we'll be looking at four more hideous years.

Sincerely,

Karen Pasley

Subj: AL GORE AND SORE JOE

Dear Buzz

I think that Joe Lieberman should stop whining and acting the victim. I understand that he must be disappointed that Al Gore did not endorse him, but I really think it is unfair how Al Gore got so much criticism for endorsing Howard Dean. Look at it from Al Gore's point of view - he badly wants to beat the man who stole the election from him, and right now he can see that only Howard Dean is able to achieve that, because he has run a great campaign so far, and as Al Gore said, Howard Dean was against the war just like Al.

And what's all this about loyalty? I BET LIEBERMAN HAS FORGOTTEN THAT HE HAS CRITICIZED AL GORE'S 2000 CAMPAIGN PUBICLY. DOES HE THINK THAT THAT WAS LOYALTY? Al Gore has every right to endorse any candidate he wants, and I think that people should just get over it.

As for Sore Joe, maybe if he did not vote with Bush most of the time and act like a Bush lite, he might have got that endorsement.

A BuzzFlash Reader

Subj: The Gore decision

So I understand the "Congressional" Dem candidates were upset that Gore did not support them. Hmmm, what did THEY do to support Gore when the presidency was being stolen out from under him? Did they speak out? Did they publicly object when the electoral college votes were being counted?

And Joe Lieberman is "bitter"? He who sold out his running mate by siding with the Republicans during the military vote debacle? Too bad!!

PS - I read that Dean introduced Gore as the "elected President" when they made their joint announcement. Nice touch.

Hi Buzz,

Keep on "keepin' on."

Distribution. That's one of the "perks" of the Iraq work. Let's take a look at Halliburton, for instance. They charge the U.S. (that would be you and I) $2.67/gallon for oil that they distribute from Kuwait to Baghdad. The key word is that they distribute. Another distributor does the same thing for about half that amount. We're not going to do business with some lowbuck scumball, who can distribute at half the price. No sir, not when we can do business with a Halliburton.

Now let's say Halliburton gets ownership of one valve on the pipeline that ships oil out of Iraq, either into the Persian Gulf or into Turkey, or both. They could charge a fee for every drop of liquid that goes through their valve, and you can be sure they will. That would be billions of gallons every year for the remaining life of the oilfields. That's the kind of picture you must see to understand why there is a war in Iraq. It's freedom to steal, disguised as capitalism. It's the distribution of the petrofuels that is the lure for the players in this war.

Now, a little closer to home, take a look at your homegrown energy distribution (centralized collection of capital) system.

Anything familiar?

Ol' quid pro quo.

Subj: Our Secret Weapon -- Vote!

Dear BuzzFlash,

In the 12/11/03 Mailbag:

[Since the republicans have been in power, so many people have lost their jobs, yet they still prefer the republicans to be in charge. If that's the case then the people deserve what they get. Maybe one day they will realize that the republicans care only about the rich. A BuzzFlash Reader]

Very true, but the "majority" of people who do not prefer republicans cannot possibly deserve job losses and the agony that goes with it. Republican voters are the minority, but they show up at the polls as regularly as rain. Countering a minority of republican voters with the "majority" is the only way to get rid of Bush.

Think of it this way: Staying home on election day is a silent vote for Bush.

~ Cathy

Subj: Media icing Dennis Kucinich

It really irritates me, Buzz, that because Kucinich exposed the media for what they are, that he is being shut down. They don't even cover him. He was right to question why they are talking about trivial issues like endorsements and polls. That way they don't have to cover the real issues. It makes me sick that they shut Dennis Kucinich down like that.

Subj: if this is true.......

"A Baghdad Thanksgiving's Lingering Aftertaste," Washington Post

<snip>

Stars and Stripes is blowing the whistle on President Bush's Thanksgiving visit to Baghdad, saying the cheering soldiers who met him were pre-screened and others showing up for a turkey dinner were turned away.

if this is true then it has to rank as one of the most asinine things he has done. We all know his crowds are managed, but now they are turning away soldiers on thanksgiving so he can be surrounded by "happy" troops.

This just takes the cake. What a load of bullshit!

Linda

yea, you i think i agree with bush. the ones who risk their lives and spilled their blood should be the ones to benefit finically from the war. so now including the big guys at halliburton, just who of bush's campaign contributors, that are making money off this war, spilled some blood?

how much are the soldiers getting from the money made off this war? yep, i agree! the money from the war should go to those who spilled the blood!

Subj: Empty Vessels Rattle Most

Dear Buzz

The first thing I heard this morning was that foul mouth Laura Ingraham on the Imus show lying her head of. There they were as usual making personal insults at Al Gore, how he looked, and who he resembled, nothing substantial, just personal insults, because that's all these right wingers are capable of. And how do I know that she lies? Well for instance, she said that she is sick of Al Gore still talking about the 2000 elections, and that he always talks about the hanging chads etc. I have listened to most of Al Gore's speeches for the last 3 years, and I have yet to hear him refer to these hanging chads. So I KNOW that this was a stinking big lie coming out from an ignorant foul mouth. I would also like to tell these insulters Laura and Imus that they should look into a mirror one of these days in case they have forgotten what THEY look like!
