Subj: Canadian TV is unafraid ...
This was a 1 hr national broadcast last night. Why is it not being publicized?? Peter Subj: I got your parsing right here! Seems the administration has a bit of a parsing problem. Right-wing scribes, administration lackeys and other delusional defenders are now trying to say that no one in the administration ever actually said the threat from Iraq was imminent because they never used the word "imminent." Immediate yes, imminent, no. Okay, the color of the sky in my world is between green and indigo on the visible light spectrum. Hey, I never said it was blue did I? Besides, this rather lame argument seems to present another problem. If the threat from Iraq was in fact not imminent and if we never claimed it was, isn’t the attack on Iraq a violation of international law? Of course, I am no expert and I don’t even play one on TV. For more perspective on this issue, there is an article from Global Beat Syndicate at:[LINK] BTW, the next time someone brings up Clinton and the “it depends on what the meaning of is, is,”just ask them, “Okay, what is the meaning of ‘is’?”Never mind that a reading of the transcript would show he was making a valid legal and logical point. Turk Subj: Senate Debate on Global Warming a Joke The debate is nothing more than a Repug concession to McCain in order to keep him from blocking the energy bill stalled in Congress. Despite scientist's warnings that global warming may upset earth's ecological balance, conservatives refuse to consider necessary action to protect the environment. In fact, as mentioned in the article, some even call global warming a hoax. A BuzzFlash Reader * * *
Subj: Economic Recovery The NY Times is positively giddy about the "scorching" 7.2% growth in the GDP. According to the Times, consumers spent "briskly," "with abandon" and "lavishly" in the 3rd quarter. I'm sure the administration is similarly light-headed. And William Safire must be feeling pleased. His most recent column ("The Pollyanna Conspiracy") invited us to look on the economic bright side, and behold, the sun peeks out. But let's not declare victory just yet. We are still at the bottom of a deepening economic hole. Yes, the deficit may not be growing quite as fast. Yes, the rate of unemployment may be leveling off, but that means we are still heading deeper into debt and losing jobs-- its hardly recovery. And don't forget there's a crucial "Part B" of the Bush economic recovery plan: huge increases in tax revenues from millions of the newly employed to wipe out the historic deficit and bring us back to a balanced budget. But as Paul Krugman has recently pointed out ("Too Low a Bar") "to have kept up with the population growth since Mr. Bush took office, the economy would have to add not two million, but seven million jobs by next November," just to be able to say there wasn't a net loss of jobs on Bush's watch. Adding a laughable 60-70,000 jobs a month doesn't come close to doing that. It means, rather, that Bush will leave the country more than 5 million jobs poorer than when he took office. So where will the tax money needed to erase the deficit come from? Not from corporate taxes we can be sure. No, the new "Good News" that the GDP is up, that the deficit is growing and jobs are being lost -- but not as fast -- still sounds a lot like the old Bad News to me. Albert Clark, NY Dear BuzzFlash,
When fighting against a charge of racism, I can think of no better supporters to have in your corner than Haley Barbour and Trent Lott. They have unparalleled credibility on this issue. Every white supremacist in Mississippi knows they're both good 'ol boys. Ya just gotta understand the code words. Ain't that right Council of Concerned Klansmen? A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Bill Burkett Dear Buzz, Thank you so much for Bill Burkett's piece. He is a hero of mine--a man who tried, at great personal risk, to warn us about the character of a man who went AWOL during Vietnam for more than a year. A man couldn't even show up for his stateside Air National Guard duties on weekends. A pilot who was grounded for failure to take his medical exam, after we the taxpayers spent hundreds of thousands training this man to fly jets. Burkett also tried to warn us that this man and his handlers would do anything to achieve power, including a scrubbing operation at the Texas Air National Guard headquarters to destroy as much of his disgraceful record as possible. Normally the press loves a cover up, but not this time. Now Burkett is saying what many of us have independently concluded: Bush cares very little for Americans as a whole. He does however care very much about himself, and, by default, his corporate donors in the defense and oil sectors. But Burkett speaks with true authority; he has witnessed these guys in action. I honor him highly, for his duty to his country and the Constitution, carried out to the fullest, and for his extraordinary courage in speaking out about the true character of the man who now occupies our White House. Had the media paid him just a small bit of attention, I have no doubts we would be living in a far better world today. Perhaps we can individually thank him by asking the press not to look the other way again. For this next election, lets ask to see Bush's military pay records, the ones he refused to release last time he ran for president. Or or those documents, too, a matter of national--a mean Bush's--security? Best regards to Bill and BuzzFlash, RA in LA Dear BuzzFlash: Thank you for your AWESOME website!! I hope to soon be able to contribute directly to supporting you with a larger donation... Keep up the GREAT WORK!!!!! You are a TRUE PATRIOT!!! Regards, Neva Dear BuzzFlash, Well shoot me a pig and point me to Jesus. One has to wonder: When it comes to fundamentalists, who will win in the end, theirs or ours, Islamic or Christian? If you were to line these men up side by side and alternately record their verbal spillages, the tenor and messages would sound like mirror echoes of one another. Every society breeds its fanatics. They always preach the same contorted gospel, and always need the shoulders of an enemy upon which they can hoist their superiority. For instance, recently Lt. General William Boykin, deputy undersecretary for defense intelligence, claimed that, "Satan wants to destroy this nation...and he wants to destroy us as a Christian army." Onward Christian soldiers? Curious, though, could someone direct me to the military manual and page where it delineates our armed forces as being Christian? Secondly, what's so Christian about blowing people apart as if they were red,water-filled balloons? Love thy enemy--then hack off his limbs, or give him a mashed stump for a head. Get thee behind me. Of his search for a Muslim Somali warlord last January, Boykin said, "I knew that my God was bigger than his. I knew that my God was a real God and his was an idol." When I was growing up, a childish taunt was emblazoned indelibly on my memory: My daddy's bigger than yours. In the same vein, My Lord is bigger and badder than yours. I have some flash news for self-righteous children such as Lt. Boykin who project their inner insecurities onto others and the world: It is time to grow up, time to learn that there is no room in a truly spiritually-matured and expanded heart and mind for even the merest thought of violence or harm. It is time to face your own inner demons before you chase down your misguided brother in the sand. It is time to learn that God takes no sides, and that you, too, kneel down before your idols, all the while whispering "sweet Jesus, sweet Jesus." George Bush and his merry band of neo-cons are doing a good enough job destroying this nation and recreating it in their likeness (which would make a fascinating and extended discussion of Satan). Their true God is greed; their religion corporate capitalism. Michael Arvey I love your site. Identifying Cheney, Hannity, Rumsfeld, Limbaugh, Wolfowitz, Pearle et al. "chickenhawks" is an insult to a fine fowl. In my opinion, they more closely resemble what comes out of the South end of said bird. Bruce Martin Subj: Fedayeen Brutality Tape Lou Dobbs on CNN just showed a video of the Fedayeen brutalizing and torturing their fighters in punishment, made during the Saddam Hussein regime. The tape is very ugly, showing people thrown off buildings and hitting the ground, getting their fingers cut off, and being whipped in public. It was gratuitous and unnecessary, because we have heard these stories already. It certainly wasn't evening news fare. This tape was apparently mentioned by Rumsfeld during today's briefing. CNN's Pentagon reporter said that the DOD didn't give CNN the tape directly, that they got it from "other sources." And he hemmed and hawed a lot. So it's pretty obvious that the DOD leaked the tape through confederates, and knew that if Don Rumsfeld mentioned it, the media would feel compelled to show it. That's how things work! A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Somebody help me do the math! So according to this article <http://www.publicintegrity.org/wow/> $500,000 gets you $8 billion in returns? What is that, for every 7 cents you "invest" in the Bush election campaign, you get back what? $10,000? That's one hell of a return on your investment...and I thought I was doing pretty good with a little bit of Microsoft stock. This sounds like one of those junk email investment schemes, right up there with buying Viagra on the web and learning how to add inches to my (nonexistent) penis. But unlike the junk email, this one REALLY works...at least if you're Halliburton or Bechtel. There's no end to this, is there? Lynne Keeley Subj: Death of our Soldiers I am writing to all my congress people and the media outlets to protest the veil of secrecy about the arrival of our dead soldiers in body bags and the fact that we are not allowed to view that arrival. It is as if we should be ashamed of them and that they are being treated as if they made a mistake by being killed in Iraq. All so this administration can hide more facts from us. These men and women should be treated as heroes with a military welcome for all to see. Let us all contact the media and the congress to protest this practice. Maybe we can force a change. I would also like to see the news outlets put up the names daily of those killed that day. I believe they do that on PBS. Let us give them the honor they deserve. A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Does the DNC get to sanitize FOX News? Hey BuzzFlash, I noticed this on CNN:
I was struck by the fact that the RNC was asking to run disclaimers on a CBS program. I would expect that they would support running disclaimers along the bottom of all network television. This is too good not to pass up. Chris Subj: I just sent this to Novak at Crossfire Mr. Novak: On a recent Crossfire, in response to a woman's description of life as a member of the growing population that lives below the rate of poverty in the United States, you advised her to "Stop whining and suck it up". Golly! What constructive advice! Well, I have a little proposition for you, Mr. Novak. It'll get you out in the fresh fall air: I propose sauce for the goose, Mr. Novak, if you have the seeds God gave you and the grit to really use them. I propose you, as a courageous and fearless journalist, live for three months below the poverty line, experiencing all the delights and wonders of what happens When Good Economies Go Bad, at least for One Fodder Units who don't have the money to become Major Political Donors and get on the Iraq Sugartit. So, show some guts, Mr. Novak. Go *really* live like someone below the poverty level in the United States. True, you may become quite ill from Palm Steakhouse Deficiency(a truly terrible, terrible syndrome! Oh, the humanity!), but you would be, at least, incrementally closer to the reason you became a journalist in the first place: To Report The Truth. You might also rehydrate that black and atrophied raisin-like thing you surely refer to as your soul. C'mon, Mr. Novak. Take the challenge. Live it up. Or down. I am sure that the management and producers of CNN are salivating at the endless possibilities of the Pulitzers and other awards that could well result from you showing a little courage and grit. Write a real story, for a change, instead of simply doing schtick. Ahh...you probably don't even know that a country exists outside of the beltway, and believe that Arlington is the beginning of The Wild Frontier. Tandalayo Scheisskopf I hope every African American leader tells the ones they represent to vote absentee ballot if they want to make sure their vote is counted. I am telling everyone I come in contact with so it should be a fair vote in 2004 BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Mystery Solved? Dear BuzzFlash, Have I missed something? Did Ashcroft et al. find the senior level White House person/persons who outed Valerie Plame? I took a nap the other day, and since then there has been NOTHING anywhere about the "investigation" to uncover the leak. I figured that I must have missed the discovery and resolution to the mystery. Otherwise, wouldn't I be hearing how diligently the DoJ is working to uncover the traitors who gave the information to the ever-so-erudite and patriotic Robert Novak? Just asking... Leslie W Subj: Naked At Last, Again! Dear Buzz, Two decades before Robert Bly started leading oddly earnest-but-pretentious male bonding rituals, he was known as the leading anti-Vietnam-War poet. In 1971 I heard Bly read his brutally incisive “The Teeth Mother Naked At Last.”I found it (and him) so deeply moving that I followed him to his next reading to hear him read it again. Now, reading Paul Krugman’s The Great Unraveling (Thank you, BuzzFlash!) has brought one particular passage of “Teeth Mother”back to mind again and again. Of course, Bly was railing against Richard Nixon and John Mitchell, but the sentiment applies equally to any criminally mendacious hypocrite Republican President and AG. David Paquette Subj: CBS vs. RNC Regarding the CBS Reagan Mimi-series:
Surely, the GOP has more confidence in the Public's ability to discern fact from fiction, don't they? Surely, they don't believe that the public can be swayed by something as simple as what they see on TV? Ironic isn't it that the tool they relied on most to sell the war on Iraq is the tool they fight hardest against when it doesn't serve their purposes. Smells like fascism to me. CBS can not and should not be intimidated by these bullies. Their threats amount to censorship and no American, liberal, moderate or conservative should tolerate this kind of Un-American strong-arm McCarthyism. I am pretty certain that if CBS were to propose a mini-series that were critical of Clinton, the RNC would be sweaty, shaking, with toes curled in orgasmic bliss. I can only hope that the more the RNC shrieks in protest, the more people are tempted to watch. Dan Here's a link to another halo Bush photo. You can find more like this if you go to Yahoo news photos and do a search for Bush and Dallas. Some have him with the banner King of Kings and some Lord of Lords, but this one is a particular classic. [LINK] Keep up the good work, T. Subj: AP Photographer-Bush as Jesus. Dear Buzz, Yes, Charles Dharapak is the same AP photographer who has been snapping the photos of Bush as Jesus all along. I have definitely been keeping track. I sent Dharapak an email questioning his theme for his photographs, but he never responded. I get so outraged when I see these pictures! Its Blasphemy according to my Bible! Nancy Lynn Nagy (TN) Subj: Senators Demand < Joke Hey, The Senators demand that the Bush Regime turn over documents concerning what happened before 911. The Senators demand, and the Senators demand, DAMN IT! I know and you know that Bush and his band of merry thugs are not going to do anything they do not want to do. They are exempt from answering to the Senate, the House and most of all the American people. They have the judicial edge in Ashcroft, and they have the edge in Scalia and his neocon pals up on the Supreme Court. To be honest I laugh when I read or hear about, the Senators demand or the people want this from Bush and his thugs. I laugh because it 'AINT' gonna happen. Hahahaha, Tom in Hibbing Subj: Carlyle Group buys CSX - connections! connections!!
(and war profiteering, of course!) A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Be proud to be a liberal All liberals need to spread the word that when referred to as same, to answer: Webster's dictionary defines liberal as "favoring progress and reform in social institutions, and the fullest practicable liberty of individual action". Thank you. John Andersen Buzz, http://www.cartercenter.org is their site.
A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: That's precisely why........ I, a DEMOCRAT, do NOT trust Kerry, Gephardt, Lieberman etc..... they are attacking the front runner Dean when they SHOULD be attacking this disastrous, corrupt Resident.....These old crows are constantly 'running with the hare and back with the hounds'...... Bush butt kissers....whereas DEAN is fresh and consistent. If said old crows were on the former GONG show they would have been "gonged" immediately......speaking of old crows, who looks more like one than Kerry?? I rest my case. Dean's the man I TRUST, with Clarke as his VP. Colette
Miller Subj: Keep It Up I live in Brazoria county, Tx. -- Tom Delay land. This place is so conservative it is against the law to sell hard liquor. Beer is all you can get and they quit selling that at midnite. Anyway, the local rag, The Brazoria County Facts just recently ran an article for two days in a row questioning the Patriot Act. Folks, this is a canary in a mine. All of you just keep doing what you're doing because it is having an effect. "keeping a low profile" in Brazoria,Tx Subj: California RECORD FIRE & KARL ROVE??? Taken from YAHOO.COM - NOV.1, -- A multi-agency fact finding team has been formed to investigate initial efforts to battle the blaze. The team was formed following media reports that a San Diego County Sheriff's helicopter pilot spotted the fire when it was still fairly small Oct 25, and called for airtankers. The pilot said state firefighters rejected his request, because it came minutes {it came at 5:36p.m., and sunset was 6:05,according to reports} after such flights had been grounded for the night, {State law}. What makes this so interesting, at the SAME time the Senate was debating the bill that BU$H was pushing thru to "help clean up the forrest". Could Karl Rove/White House, have made a call to certain people? Because now the bill has been passed, and Bu$hes Buddies are going to make out like "bandits" and 'rape' the forrest, with little or no supervision. This can be added to the long list of accomplishments of the Bu$h Cartel. The results, 20 people died, 3,300 homes destroyed; can we say along with the soldiers in Iraq, BU$H lied, and people die, just so they can enrich their bank accounts. A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Iraq War Today Sunday morning I had NBC news show on and they wanted to include some military comment on the downing of the Chinook Helicopter and the large loss of life. Half listening and have reading I looked up to see a Uniformed officer explaining that this is just another regrettable incident, and that what the people must understand (reads to me like the ignorant citizens) is that we are there {Iraq} and although we may not agree with the timing {What?} we will be staying! Well that sounds like a challenge to me. Lets make sure that doesn't happen. We need to replace the Whole White House and most of Congress. Again Congress blew it by funding the Bush request for 87 Billion. If the big fight was put up, there then Bush would have to rethink his Iraq policy, but all the money was giving with too few dissenters. So why should Bush change. If things turn out badly politically there is enough blame to go around. Some wars may need to be fought. But how can we separate those that do from those that do not. I think that three rules should be applied for every war. First, all Members of Congress should have to serve in a reservist capacity as Medics in the field battle or in the Coroners company. That can be split 50/50 and rotated so that all get a few weeks a year in field at least. Those members too infirmed for such duty will rotate as Honor Guards at funerals. Second, the President must be prepared to defend the decision to go to war at a world court if so requested after returning to civilian life. Remember mistakes can be forgiven and understood, but deviant behavior cannot. And third, the money to raise a war will start to be collected immediately. I think those 3 rules will keep us safe. Steve White Subj: Celebrate, celebrate, more US soldiers dead??? According to Bush's recent foray into philosophy (the more they try to kill us, the surer we are that our plan is working), yesterday was the best day yet since we invaded Iraq. With the Washington Post (at LINK) stating "It was the deadliest day for American troops in the six-month-old occupation of Iraq . . . ", I'm waiting for my party invitations to start coming in, as there must be a lot of celebrating going on all across the US. I realize that GW isn't the brightest bulb in a White House chandelier, but it really is way past time that someone puts a muzzle on that man! Jack Ballinger =====
Subj: Tactics worthy of the Soviet Union It would appear that the Republican National Committee is most upset that CBS had the temerity to produce a movie about Ronald Reagan that might, gasp, show that Mr. Reagan was really not quite a perfect saint and did not walk on water, contrary to Republican Party mythology. Although the movie is tame by anyone's standards, and certainly not a hatchet job like oh say some of the Kennedy biopics CBS has shown, this is not good enough. Complete fealty to the GOP version of reality is demanded and, even though CBS has already been roundly excoriated by the usual legions of right wing shills, this cacophony of public caterwauling is apparently not good enough. Now they have demanded that CBS give them an advance copy of the miniseries so it can be screened by historians for "accuracy." (Which historians will be given this task I wonder, maybe say Lynne Cheney's friends?) If CBS refuses to cave in to this unprecedented attempt at media micromanagement, then the head of the RNC has demanded that they run an on screen crawl as the miniseries is being aired with a disclaimer informing viewers that the miniseries "is not accurate." Since when has a major political party in America decided to arrogate to itself the unprecedented right to dictate to a television network what type of programming that it can carry, and then demand that it submit that programming to it for its preapproval? Since when has an American political party claimed the presumptuously heavy handed right to demand changes or disclaimers to a body of artistic work prior to it being shown because IT objects to the content? Not satisfied with having a 24 hour news station that gives round the clock fawning coverage they now apparently wish to dictate the content of what is shown on all the other networks as well. [LINK] . What we have here is nothing short of a political party attempting to exercise prior restraint over the activities of the media. That is about as un-American and "hating of our freedoms" as you can get. CBS must therefore adamantly refuse to cave to this blatant attempt at media suppression and intimidation, not just for the sake of their own integrity but for the sake of all broadcasters and creative artists everywhere since this is nothing short of a direct assault on freedom of expression. Lest they be tempted to go further in the future, CBS and others similarly situated must stand up to them now and say emphatically that neither they nor anyone else will dictate to them what is shown on their network. The Republican Party needs to be reminded that this is the United States of America not the "Evil Empire" of the Soviet Union whom Mr. Reagan had no use for in large part because the media there had been reduced to the level of a mere puppet organ of the ruling Communist Party. Dan Delisio Karzai warned US military year ago that militias working for US committing abuses http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/world/2193112 Does this give credence to Jamie Duran's film Massacre at Mazar? A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Damn them! Dear Buzz, GRRR! This makes me so angry! Now I understand why Bush held his "Top Gun" PR stunt to mark the end of "major" hostilities! So the press can conveniently (for Bush's benefit) minimize the number of Troop deaths in the public's eye by only calculating that number from May 1st on. Never does the public see or hear the total number! Never does the public see or hear the TRUTH! Never does the public see or hear the outrageous number of Iraqi civilians killed either! Damn them! BUT God Bless our courageous Soldiers and the Iraqi civilians killed as well! Nancy Lynn Nagy (TN) Bush says God chose him to lead his nation - then why didn't God give him more votes than Al Gore? A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Hugging the Mothers Dear Horse, Altercation, and BuzzFlash (my three favorite blogs): Maybe your readers have pointed this out, but I would ask Bush, "When are you going to hug the mothers, Mr. President?" From the Washington Post, (Karen DeYoung, "Bush Decries Attempts to Block War Plans" February 11, 2003, Pg. A17):
Then last week's Post (Dana Milbank, "Curtains Ordered for Media Coverage of Returning Coffins" October 21, 2003, Pg. A23)
I suspect that he fears some sort if incident from angry mothers if he tried to hug them. Their loss is terrible beyond words. A hug from the President would truly be insult to injury. Keep up the good work, Eric Stromberg Subj: God and Bush Since Bush thinks God chose him to be president, that must mean Bush worships Rehnquist & Scalia. Sharon Subj: HONOR AND INTERGRITY? HOW LAUGHABLE!!! Dear BuzzFlash, The recent violence in Iraq, and the attitude of the Bush cartel, makes me so mad that our precious men and women are being sacrificed by Bush for absolutely NO VALID REASON. We should not forget that THIS IS BUSH'S WAR. Our brave troops are fighting an unnecessary war and many are paying with their lives, for all the lies and deception that the Bush administration resorted to, to sell this bloody war to the American people. It is now clear that Saddam Hussein, tyrant that he was, was not an imminent threat to either the US or to his neighbors. Rumsfeld even declared that he knew exactly where the WMD were, and he like the rest of this disgusting bunch have to be held accountable for all the lies, and the terrible mess we are in now. In the corporate world the CEO and his administration would have been kicked out of office long ago for the lies and the messing up. Evidence of all the lies are clearly out there, in all the speeches made by Bush and his gang, so my question is shouldn't they be held accountable and impeached? This is such a serious offense, and not even the (s)elected president of this country is above the law, and MUST be responsible for the terrible blunders, and exposing our troops to such dangers. What is congress waiting for? They gave Bush the power to go into this war, and they owe the american people an explanation as to why they backed Bush's war, and hold an immediate investigation, not like the previous ones that fizzled out (the words in the SOTU address, the identity of the white house unpatriotic leaker etc.), but a SERIOUS INVESTIGATION. We are not a nation of imbeciles, and we certainly do not buy Bush's theory that we are losing our troops because we are progressing in Iraq, that is a load of BS, and we should not have our intelligence insulted. I AM SICK AND TIRED OF ALL THE LIES, AND STONEWALLING, and I am praying that we do not have to go through another four hellish years of George Bush and his dishonest administration. A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: 18 Soldiers -- the most heroic of all Dear Buzz, The Lord works in strange ways. On a day when the Rove Spin Machine most likely planned to spin the perception that all was well and fine in a "Democratic" Iraq, 18 of our brave Soldiers died along with uncounted numbers of Iraqi civilians. As a result Bush's efforts to spin the Sunday morning news have been thwarted. Hopefully these deaths, in spite of all the efforts by the press to minimize the tragedy, will mark the beginning of the end to GW Bush's horrific and bogus war in Iraq! And maybe even an end to the nightmarish --self-proclaimed God appointed-- Presidency of GW Bush! If this is the case, then I will forever mark this day and will always consider these 18 Soldiers to be the most heroic of all! They, in my opinion, will have saved the lives of countless numbers of others and saved their Nation from the ever creeping boots of Fascism! Wishful thinking? I pray and think not. Nancy Lynn
Nagy (TN) Subj: Bush is trying to screw military families Dear BuzzFlash, I love this site! I don't even watch the news anymore-you're my #1 source of information. My husband has been proudly serving his country in the USMC for 17 years-and anxiously waiting for retirement in 3 years. He came home tonight and told me that he read in the base paper that Bush wants to eliminate all commissaries and DOD schools in all of the military bases. And possibly cut our pay. He read that the administration said that the military is "not in the business of feeding families and educating children." What the.........? So........... he sent our husbands and wives over to fight a war based on a lie. Now he wants to not pay them and screw their families. Nice. What's next...... our medical? If you find any information on this story could you please post it on your website. Many of the families depend on you because God knows this won't be on Fox. Thank You and keep buzzing. I will send a donation when I can, but........... A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: The Halliburton Fund I'd just like to make a little correction when people refer to the "Iraq Rebuilding Fund" or "money to rebuild Iraq." The more correct term would be the "Halliburton Fund" or the "money to rebuild Halliburton's profits," etc. Congress just basically gave Bush a blank check to line Halliburton's (and Cheney's) pockets under the guise of money to rebuild Iraq. Why are no Democrats pointing this out? A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Saddam's Missiles Where did Saddam get his missiles? Was it from the thousands Ollie North sold to middle eastern terrorists? Was it from the $5 billion in credits that GHW Bush gave to Saddam illegally--later repaid by American taxpayers? Was it from Rumsfeld? Casey? Cheney? Powell? Reagan? Was it from large American corporations? Tell us. I would really like to know. Keith Gordon A Conservative American speaks - http://www.amconmag.com/10_20_03/buchanan.html I thought the whole piece quite good until I read the "ultimate solution." Nothing like owning up to moral responsibilities. Piss the USA off? No problems. Bomb the shit out of them and then just leave them to sort it all out. One small concern with the logic. Bushco can't just walk out of Iraq. To do so would mean losing control of the potential oil resources, and there ain't no way in hell that Tricky Dick Cheney is about to allow that to happen. And to think I was born and raised a Conservative. Said to my 68 year old father the other day, "your grandfathers would be ashamed of us for what we have done." His response: "I'm ashamed as well." A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Diebold Spokesman's Irony I wonder if Diebold spokesman Michael Jacobsen was aware of the ridiculous irony of his recent statements when they complained about the computerized reprinting of Diebold documents on MIT students computers: "Jacobsen also warned that the leaked materials may have been altered, and that readers can't be certain a particular document came from Diebold." (The Boston Globe, October 10). Oh, I get your point Mr. Jacobsen, because the material is being transferred electronically, it can be altered without someone knowing it!! Great point Mr. Jacobsen! Maybe that is the exact reason why we don't want our votes recorded in the same manner! "VOTES MAY HAVE BEEN ALTERED AND VOTERS CAN'T BE CERTAIN...." Williams Subj: Conason: Intel war spells trouble for Dubya Friends, I first became familiar with Joe Conason several years ago, when I caught him on cable TV (Fox News, as I recall). In one of those brief moments where the clouds part and a ray of sunshine drops in, I witnessed Conason destroy Sean Hannity and his relentless criticism of Bill Clinton. Finally, I thought to myself, someone with a fabulous command of history and who is not afraid to strut his stuff in defense of the truth. Since then, I've always enjoyed reading Conason. Last week, I caught him on Tim Russert, where he discussed his latest book, "Big Lies: The Right-Wing Propaganda Machine and How It Distorts the Truth." Conason represents a new trend among progressives in American politics. Together with Paul Krugman, Molly Ivins, Al Franken and others, we are witnessing a rebirth, a group of journalists who completely reject the policies and behavior of the current administration and aren't shy about saying so. These people have the intellect to not just talk the talk, but walk the walk, and they are speaking to an entire class of Americans who are outraged at what Bush and his cohorts have done. It is time we put niceties aside. This has nothing to do with personality. The current administration is a criminal regime. What Don Bush and his cohorts have done is treason. I am not afraid to call it by its true name. Every day, more and more come to the same conclusion. Warmest regards, Top Dog Buzz,
A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Parker following in footsteps of CWFA Thanks for posting the items about Kathleen Parker editing a quote in her column to make it less offensive. Thought you might be interested to know that Concerned Women for America did something similar several weeks ago. In a piece on their website, they described a married gay Canadian couple who tried to enter the US using one customs form as "domestic terrorists." Later they took the piece down, and still later they put up a rewritten version without that phrase. A couple of bloggers preserved the original. Here's a link: http://www.exgaywatch.com/xgw/2003/09/antigay_group_c.html Keep up your wonderful work! -A loyal BuzzFlash reader Re: Kathleen Parker, Columnist Dear Buzz: Parker made the most telling comment about herself:
