Subj: New Bush Nickname

Dear BuzzFlash,

In light of Bush's statement that the attacks were because we are making progress and the criminals don't want freedom, I suggest a new nickname. He should be called BELTWAY BUSH in honor to Baghdad Bob.

Dear BuzzFlash:

Your interview of Bill Moyers was outstanding. The man is truly an inspiration. My wife and I never miss "Now With Bill Moyers" and have gotten some of our friends hooked as well.

Subj: Congressional censure of the President

Dear Buzz,

I have sent the following message to all Democrat and Independent members of Congress. I am asking your help in getting the message out there to the public.

Burt

--------------

Australia recently censured its Prime Minister for misleading the public about the war in Iraq. His mistakes and miscalculations pale in comparison to those of our President. All it took to make the censure happen was the courage of one person. (TomPaine.com, Oct. 13 and 14.)

Please take a look at my blog on this subject. (http://blogs.salon.com/0003052/). It illustrates that whenever the far right takes control of any branch of government, this country eventually gets into trouble. Also on the blog you will find a penetrating article outlining why Congress should censure the President and why he, in turn, should stand down from reelection.

If asked by members of Congress, I am sure that MoveOn and its sister organizations could collect citizen petitions via the internet and submit them, as a package, to each individual member of congress. These petitions would be collected from Democrats, Republicans and Independents alike. Then, the aggregate would be submitted to top congressional leaders (with media coverage).

In view of current discontent with the war, the petitions could number anywhere from 10 to 30 million. Whether the censure passed or not, the President’s reelection would be doubtful and the Democratic winner could have considerable coattails.

Bush has misled, spun and lied to the public long enough. With the mainstream media either intimidated or biased, Congress is the public's only hope to deal with presidential abuses of power. It's time for you to step up to plate ... our country's future is at stake.

Subj: Iraq -- No Escape

FYI: My future son-in-law is a Staff Sergeant currently stationed in Tikrit or thereabouts. Since he is to leave the army for good in March, his departure date from Iraq was scheduled for this coming Saturday, November 1. All of us doubted this would occur until my son-in-law informed us a week or so ago that he had turned all of his equipment in and was simply waiting for Nov. 1. Very encouraging news. Then, this past Friday or Saturday, his colonel informed him he was staying and for him to go get his equipment reissued. In a nutshell, the army, or at least this colonel, is screwing with him. The colonel has been badgering him to reenlist for another round of the army. My son-in-law has consistently refused, although he says the pressure is relentless. Now, he figures the colonel is exacting his revenge by the "now you're leaving, no you're not" approach. The worst part of this is that he has done his duty, he has not complained and now the army is messing him over. We'll keep our fingers crossed, but if anyone out there knows anyone we can contact to maybe help him, please pass along.

Keep up the good work at the buzz,

Tom Wells

Subj: $87 Billion

Instead of $87 billion for Halliburton and Bechtel (I mean Iraq's reconstruction), why don't we just give $4000 to every man, woman and child in Iraq and then let THEM sort it out.

How much of that $87 billion does anyone really believe will get to the Iraqi people?

Subj: What does blaming the Fires in CA on Arsonists mean?

I just saw a headline on the bottom of the Fox News screen saying that The Governor of CA says that the fires will cost CA $2.5 billion. What struck me as kind of odd throughout the fires was Arnold's lack of leadership. He didn't come out and make speeches to try and look the part of Governor. He showed no leadership. This is the first I heard him even talking about the devastation that these fires are causing his state. Now what was natural caused fires are being blamed on arsonists. What does this mean. I even heard questions on Fox that maybe terrorist are behind it (scare tactics). What I do know is that this gives Arnold his opportunity to raise taxes. I say if he does, knowing that he will be getting federal disaster relief funds, then he needs to be recalled.

Subj: Who will protect us from our protector?

Could Osama Bin Laden or Saddam Hussein, in their blackest dreams for America, ever hope to accomplish what George Bush has in fact accomplished?

Consider the all too well known facts:

Economic policies that took us from 4 consecutive years of surplus to record deficits, soon to be the largest in history.

A trillion-dollar increase in the national debt.

A Dow average at 11723 two weeks before he took office, and at about 9700 today after a "rally." (It had dropped 2100 points before 9/11)

The first unprovoked invasion of a another country by the United States. (Unprovoked because every reason for an immediate invasion cited by Colin Powell at the UN has proved either false or exaggerated.)

The military occupation of a Muslim country. Bin Laden's characterization of our invited presence in Saudi Arabia as an "occupation of holy ground," is one of his most powerful recruiting tools. How much more persuasive his arguments must seem now.

An America stripped by the executive of the freedoms he took an oath to defend. An America of secret military trials, of detention without charges for both citizens and noncitizens; warrantless wiretaps and surveillance of American citizens. The ability to designate anyone, in an unsupported affidavit by a pentagon employee, an "enemy combatant" and so place them beyond constitutional protections.

No foreign enemy, and certainly not Osama Bin Laden or Saddam Hussein, could ever have achieved the devastation of the American economy, of our reputation internationally, and of fundamental democratic freedoms that George Bush has in "protecting" us from terror.

Subj: A Story the U.S. Media is afraid to reveal!

A very dramatic and newsworthy event occurred Friday, 24 Oct, but the U.S. news media is afraid to even report it. Three former CIA employees laid it out as clearly as can be: The White House has engaged in the most deceitful, vindictive and illegal conduct in the modern history of this country, so much so that that it literally SHOCKS these former CIA employees. They were visibly angry as they testified. It was shown in its entirety on CSPAN. The 1-1/2 hour of testimony is on their website (http://www.c-span.org/), as a viewable download (but you can't save it directly). It is listed as "Democratic Policy Cmte., Hearing on Intelligence Leaks"

There has been no event as newsworthy as this one, yet NOT A PEEP in any big newspaper. One could make for a very dramatic intro to a news show with this material-- plenty of juicy sound bites, and it was obviously non-partisan. In fact one of the strongest statements made was a direct attack on the CIA-agent-outing as an act of beyond-the-pale partisanship!!

In Eric Alterman's blog, he noted a report of this in the Financial Times, [LINK] where the story was reported in a standard way.

It is an act of deception by all of our news media for this story not to be prominent in the news Saturday, Sunday and Monday (initial story, reactions, etc.).

1) It is extremely dramatic news

2) It concerns THE hottest story around NOW

3) It is testimony directly from the most experienced people on a subject that could possibly be found

4) It was on CSPAN, so everyone can get the material

5) Any partisanship was utterly removed by the speakers statements on their own political background (republicans!)

What is the excuse this time, NYT, Washington Post, LA Times???

Why is it not even mentioned anywhere?

David

Subj: Mrs. Jones

Since you posted the obituary of Gertrude Jones yesterday afternoon, her "guest book" has grown from one lone entry to three pages of entries (probably 30+ in all) from 22 states--all applauding her wish for memorial donations to organizations seeking to remove President Bush from office! Thanks for spreading the word.

Subj: "Look"

Dear Buzz:

It's taken me a while to recognize what I'm about to tell you, but put it to the test yourself. Every time a conservative commentator (O'Reily, Limbaugh, etc.) begins a sentence with the word "Look", and then pauses, what follows is inevitably a lie! It actually makes it fun to listen to these blowholes!

So Diebold Voting Systems is threatening law suits against websites that expose the machines as having security flaws.

As recently suggested by a fellow mailbagger: Get a movement going to vote by Absentee Ballot. If few use the Diebold equipment and others like it, there may be little use for it. The people need to send a strong message to Diebold that we refuse to vote on their questionable equipment!

Subj: US may ease H-1B restrictions

Hi,

Here's an interesting article that I just read on BushWatch.com that you might want to refer to on your site in case you haven't seen it yet. I'm sure it will just warm the hearts of all the unemployed IT and engineering workers in the US to learn just how hard their Repuplican Congress is working for them. And of course attaching the measure to a must pass appropriations bill shows just how productive (or should I say underhanded) our Republican Congress is trying to be.

John

PS: Thanks to BuzzFlash (and also BushWatch and CommonDreams) for the great work on keeping people informed about the news that the mainstream media are afraid to report. I read BuzzFlash every day and without you a lot of people would really be blinded by the propaganda.

US may ease H-1B restrictions

WASHINGTON: Proposals to allow more high-technology foreign workers into the US are gaining ground in the Congress despite assertions by labour and anti-immigrant lobbies that plenty of Americans are available to fill the jobs.

I think the reason baghdad bush refuses to turn over those 9-11 documents is because he was warned about 9-11 and did nothing! Presidents should not be allowed to hide that kind of stuff from the american people. All presidents should think they better pay attention because the people will know if they don't, and we all know what a short attention span baghdad bush has, he can't even read a news paper for christ sake! God he is pathetic!

Dear BuzzFlash:

In your link to the yahoo news story about Bush's approval ratings [LINK], they have a photo of Bush. You can click on it to get a bigger version at [LINK].

Is that something like a halo behind his head again? What's with the glowing lights behind this guy? Is he being visited by aliens or angels? Will they take him away with them? We can only hope.

Subj: Up is Down, Black is White

Only the Bush Administration would even try to get away with spin that was this transparent, and they're getting away with it because, once again, the "liberal media" swallowed their spin without question and are passing it along to the public as fact. My guess is that they wouldn't even try to get away with this stuff if they knew the media would actually be doing their jobs instead of acting as court stenographers (think of the money that could be saved if the media companies just fired all the White House reporters and simply reprinted the White House's press releases, would consumers even notice a difference?).

So according to Bush, we're making so much progress in Iraq that the enemy can't stand it so they are attacking out of desperation. See? The fact that we're getting attacked so heavily in Iraq is really a sign of how good things are going over there.

Following that logic, because America hasn't been attacked since 9/11, does that mean that we're actually losing the war on terror? Just asking.

A concerned BuzzFlash reader

9/11

Wouldn't now be an opportune time for some group, say Anshell or Michael Moore and friends etc., etc. to start taking out full page ads in major markets demanding that bush stop stonewalling the 9/11 investigation. They need to point out that a real true American would want the facts out and not try to stop them. It's seems that the time is right to put real pressure on him and expose him to the public. PLEASE!!!!

Subj: Burning Bush

Friends,

In the words of Dave Barry, no, I am not making this up.

Bush celebrates Ramadan at the White House, while refusing to fire the head of US military intelligence in Iraq who made public speeches saying that his god (the Christian god) was a real god, while Muslims were worshipping Satan.

Earth to Dubya to General: Jews, Christians and Muslims recognize and worship the same god. Their religious beliefs do not differ in terms of monotheist belief, but only in terms of whether or not Jesus or Mohammed were genuine prophets.

Is it too much to ask that the head of US Military Intelligence in Iraq be intelligent enough to understand this simple concept? Or does this simply reinforce the notion that military intelligence is an oxymoron?

And if the above were not proof enough, Dubya expresses an inability to understand the distrust of the US government among Muslims around the world.

What is the first syllable in Dubya? Say what you like, but it sounds like "duh..." to me.

Warmest regards,

Top Dog

Re: Republican & former Essex Co., N.J. Executive Treffinger sentenced to 13 months in Federal prison.

Dear Buzz:

Here's another Republican crook that finally got his just desserts: James W. Treffinger. He was sentenced to 13 months in Federal prison, fined %5,000 and ordered to repay $29,471 to Essex County. [LINK]

Seeking to avoid jail time, Treffinger's attorneys cited his `remarkable' conversion to a repentant Assistant Secretary at the Brookdale Baptist Church---changing from Out Lady of the Lake Catholic Church---who helped AIDS victims and the elderly. Included in his attorney's brief was `an abnormally high number' of letters from supporters, who included the President of Seton Hall University and former county employees. [LINK]

That remarkable transformation from corrupt official to saint is quite a contrast, especially in light of the allegations of a female former county employee that Treffinger fired her and retaliated against her siblings because she refused repeated demands for oral sex with him. The full story this allegation appears in reveals more alleged sex-related machinations. [LINK]

Will there be a Clinton-Lewinski style outrage in the press? Yeah, sure.

Regards,

William Wilgus

Subj: You wanna get Bush re-selected?

You wanna get Bush re-selected? Here's a sure-fire way! It's already been proven in Georgia and Texas.... All you have to do is (continue to) completely ignore the threat to (that darn) democracy posed by proprietary, riggable, unauditable electronic voting machines munching the nation by storm! You thought the hanging chad was rad? Wait 'til you see what Microsoft Access can do for you!

Everywhere and everyday can be Florida in every way!

DO MORE! Go to www.verifiedvoting.org , read about HR 2239, the Voter Confidence Act of 2003, then do everything in your power to, well, let it stay nearly dead.

You want some real fun? Try " Do-it-yourself vote tampering!" Jim March's website (a gun-totin' libertarian, but give him credit) shows you, step-by-step, how to rig votes using actual Diebold "toolkit and practice set" electronic voting software. Enjoy! Almost any windows computer will do. http://www.equalccw.com/dieboldtestnotes.html

Foil Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King III and investigative reporter Greg Palast in their fight against the Florida-tion of the 2004 election.

Then for further goosebumps, read these leaked memos, of which Diebold has already claimed ownership within their cease-and-desist orders. (Follow this link and then click on "excerpts" or scroll way down). http://why-war.com/features/2003/10/diebold.html

MORE IMPORTANTLY - The window of opportunity to preserve the integrity of the of the vote is right on top of us, and will be gone in a few weeks. Don't let responsible citizens revive HR2239 2003 in Congress. http://www.verifiedvoting.org

The Voter Confidence act of 2003, HR 2239, requires a simple printout to be filed for every vote cast on new electronic systems, a paper trail to be available if needed for recounts and/or to prove that the machines worked or didn't work in particular instances, or to provide evidence of fraud. We are learning that rigged results are very easy to accomplish on computers -- and these computers are proving to be particularly insecure. Tell politicians, elections officials and the media to continue to be mesmerized by industry lobbyists and to play dumb to the small army of alarmed computer scientists, journalists and academics who are seriously studying this problem, and to continue to ignore HR2239 and ignore everyone's right to a secure vote.

These electronic systems are unprecedented in that a) there is no way verify or recount votes (nope, spitting out the same rigged results from a computer is not a recount) once they have been entered into the system; b) the systems themselves are owned by private corporations which are hiding the computer code from the public behind intellectual property rights - in particular, Diebold is run by a wealthy GOP doner who has vowed to deliver his state (Ohio) to Bush in '04. Look up "All the President's Votes" on commondreams.org to read about how two suspect elections at least (in Texas and Georgia) may have already been blown by these systems... which true to form, offered no opportunity for recount, no verification means at all. This is an emergency please, help end democracy! *snap* *snap* Quick! Quick!

Call Congress today! And write letters to the editor! Please go to http://www.verifiedvoting.org and click on the " Support HR2239" link to find out more.

Here is Bev Haris' Salon article http://salon.com/tech/feature/2003/09/23/bev_harris/index.html

And the Independent/UK newspaper article http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/1013-01.htm

And there are so many others. Good luck fellow Bush Lovers, and may the fraud be with you!

Subj: Attorney General Practices Blind Justice

This is an urgent message from http://www.StopFamilyViolence.org and the Center For Gender and Refugee Studies (http://www.uchastings.edu/cgrs/). Please take action immediately then pass this message along to others.

For ten years, Rodi Alvarado Peña was brutally beaten by her husband in Guatemala. Her husband r~ped her repeatedly, attempted to abort their second child by kicking her in the spine, dislocated her jaw, tried to cut her hands off with a machete, kicked her in the genitals, and broke windows with her head. Ms. Alvarado sought assistance from the Guatemalan police and the courts but was refused official protection. Desperate, she fled to the United States in search of safety.

For the past eight years, Ms. Alvarado has been engaged in another kind of fight - a fight to stay in the United States. In 1996, she was granted asylum, but three years later, the Board of Immigration Appeals overturned that decision. Before leaving office, Janet Reno vacated the BIA's decision and asked that Ms. Alvarado's case be re-decided after new regulations on gender-based asylum were finalized.

Since then, Ms. Alvarado's case has been in limbo. The current administration has yet to finalize these proposed regulations. And in February 2003, Attorney General John Ashcroft certified the case to himself so that he alone can act as judge. He has yet to issue his decision.

What's more, in a shocking letter to Ms. Alvarado's attorney, Attorney General Ashcroft has refused to consider pertinent briefing materials in defense of gender-based asylum before making his decision - a decision that will set a national precedent for granting asylum not just to Ms. Alvarado - but for all women fleeing from gender-based persecution such as domestic violence, honor killing, and sexual trafficking.

The Attorney General's blatant disregard for basic legal principals of fairness and due-process in such a landmark case is stunning, and should not be tolerated!

A bipartisan group of House members is currently circulating a letter to Attorney General John Ashcroft urging him to reconsider his decision to deny review of briefing materials.

For more information about this critical case and to urge your Representative to sign this letter to Attorney General Ashcroft please visit http://stopfamilyviolence.org/sfvo/sfvo_asylum.html

Our strength is in our numbers. Help raise our voice against this injustice by passing this message along to others! Together we can.... http://www.stopfamilyviolence.org

Subj: no way to run a department

Even assuming that Rumsfeld thought anyone believed this, he would still be showing himself to be totally incompetent and derelict in his duties as Secretary of Defense in running things as he has described them here.

Libby

* * *

Presenter: Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld

(TV Interview with CNBC reporter Brian Williams)

Monday, July 15, 2002

http://www.defenselink.mil/news/Jul2002/t07152002_t15cnbca.html

Williams: Trying to move smartly through my list: Corporate Responsibility -- a division of Halliburton, a firm formerly headed by the Vice President, Mr. Cheney, KBR has been given an enormous Pentagon contract, exclusive logistics supplier for both Army and Navy for cooking, construction, power generating, fuel transportation. The contract recently won from the Army is for ten years, has no lid on costs, the only logistical arrangement by the Army without an estimated cost. You know how it looks when the Pentagon awards an enormous contract to a company last headed by the current Vice President. What is the Pentagon view on the selection of a vendor in this case?

Rumsfeld: Oh, I have no idea. I was not aware of the contract at all. There's, you know, hundreds of contracts in an institution as large as this, in all the services, and the defense agencies. I would say this. I think the implication of the question is unfair, in this sense -- the Vice President has absolutely no economic interest in any company that he was ever connected with. I have no economic interest. None of the other people serving in the government have an economic interest in any company they were previously associated with. Therefore, it ought not to look bad. It only will look bad if people raise the question, and say it looks bad. It does not look bad. And it should be accompanied by the truth, which is that the Vice President has no economic interest in that company; has not since the day he became Vice President. ....

Williams: .... Devil's advocate, since you seem to love these questions. Should someone have entered the Defense Secretary's office and said, "Mr. Secretary, we're about to award a huge contract to a division of Halliburton, Dick Cheney's old outfit, and you should know this contract has no cost lid. So, because it's a precedent setter, this may get some attention."

Rumsfeld: I can't imagine that anyone would have felt they should do that. It never would cross my mind, I'm sure it would never cross anyone else's mind. What we're doing here has -- is perfectly above boards. It's all available to the public; it's all a matter of public record. There are no big secrets, other than the military secrets to protect peoples' lives. And it would not have crossed my mind to have asked anyone to do that; nor would it cross my mind, now that you've raised it, that I could go to somebody and say, "Goodness gracious, you might have told me that," because I just don't feel that way.

This -- the building is run on a totally open basis. It's on a non-partisan basis. And if -- I know nothing about the contract, but I can say this. If there is no lid to it, then I'm almost positive that it can be cancelled in a relatively short notice. So, as anyone looking at it would be able to -- for example, if people invest to send people over to Bosnia to relieve men and woman in uniform from doing non-military jobs, I am sure that we can stop them doing that. And it is designed not so that it benefits the contractor's design, so that it benefits us, so that we can have them there as long as we need them.

But as we start drawing down our troops, I'll guarantee you that we're going to be able to end that contract. I just know that's the case...

Subj: Clark and Dean....or Dean and Clark

The article about the stolen materials from the Dean camp...(republicans) of course..was not much of a surprise. You must know by now, that they will do anything....stop short of nothing to sneak around and find something out. They are so running scared!

I can remember when JFK was running...That was the first time I voted... I had a dream sometime before the election (no one thought a Catholic could win)...I cannot remember how long before the election..but, he won...it was more surreal than a dream..I could actually see him...Dems were so taken with John Fitzgerald Kennedy,

Well...folks....I have had a dream about a team of running mates..and wonder if anyone else has this dream? I am dreaming much, if Clark is the Nominee, that Dean be his running mate. And, if Dean is the nominee, Clark be either his running mate...or his Secretary of Defense.....how great is that????

Dean is obviously going to be it...no doubt in my mind...the dems love him and he is the one who just stands on everything he has ever said...and a lot of independents and republicans are even coming his way. (He has never swayed from the start!!!)

So, to quote a famous American...in the sixties..."I have a dream" about the time that we will never again have to listen to George Bush tell us that they, the Iraqis are thinking we are soft...we will stay the course...we will not falter. I think all of us who think he is full of crap now..after a war that has no end...finances in the dumper frightened to death for our loved ones in the war...How he blew it!

Right after 911, he had this country in the palm of his hand...I couldn't stand him then...but the fear made me keep my mouth shut..and I cried a lot.

Now, I am mad...MAD!!!!

And I have a dream...more times than I want to admit...that Clark and Dean will bring this country back to what it was when Clinton was in there...when everyone had jobs...there was a surplus...the world actually looked rosy..if you could see past the jealous republicans and their dream of impeachment..no matter the reason!!!!! It is a sad time, when grown men cannot stand a man just because of his brilliance, his great mind!!!

I believe that both Dean and Clark have that...and what one knows wonderfully well about economics.....the other knows about keeping the peace!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, man...the republicans are scared to death...AND THEY SHOULD BE!!!!!

Shirley.......St. Louis
