Subj: Iraq Occupation Faces New Challenge Today's Washington Post has a story titled: "Iraq Occupation Faces New Challenge; Shiite Demand to Elect Constitution's Drafters Could Delay Transfer of Power" (at: LINK)How do you like that! After all America has done for those ungrateful Iraqis they now turn around and demand . . . ELECTIONS!!! That's right folks. The idiots in the Bush administration who have shown that they had no plan for the follow-up to the invasion are now being faced with the crisis of a nascent Iraqi democracy. Don't they realize that when Bush had to fall back on "We got rid of that tyrant Saddam", after all other lies behind the invasion were exposed, he intended on appointing a US owned tyrant in his place. There is no way Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Wolfowitz/Pearl etc. could ever let someone interested in the Iraqi people's welfare take over Iraq. The next thing you know, Iraq would be making Halliburton and the rest send in sealed bids for billion$ contracts, Iraqis would also be allowed to bid and the Execs of those big-donor US firms would have to start providing their own personal security and leave our troops to do their own jobs. There is a solution I'll bet this administration is contemplating. We can try selling the Iraqis on using the Diebold electronic voting system. According to most experts, the right-wing bunch that runs Diebold can get you any result of votes you want. Jack Ballinger Subj: Michael Moore's New Book Dear Friends, Family and Acquaintances; I just finished reading Michael Moore's new book: "Dude Where's My Country?", and in spite of the sophomoric title, it is an interesting and informative book. He provides footnotes and other notes, in the back of the book, that support his claims and that are quoted. Although he does some ranting, his humor is threaded through the book. Please note that he indicates that he received a very large tax refund because of sale of his last book, and plans to contribute all of it to electing someone other than George W. Bush to be the next president. I hope you will consider it, you may be surprised with how much of it you agree. As ever, Neb Subj: Barbara Bush So Barbara Bush thinks the democratic candidates are all a "sorry bunch." Perhaps she should search that "beautiful mind" (remember that bit of arrogance?) of hers and try to recall something not so sorry about her goofy kid. Wayne Pyles Subj: My Two Cents Dear BuzzFlash, For anyone waiting to see whether the child President will issue a rebuke of General Boykin's seemingly shroom-induced remarks, I say don't hold your breath. As a gay man that was raised a Fundamentalist Christian I have the unfortunate ability to see through their parsed-beyond-belief public sound bytes, designed to hide their snarky jowls from the mainstream. When General Boykin said the god of Islam is an idol, that's exactly what he bloody-well meant. He DOES believe all other religions are false and indeed evil. Which brings me to the guy that never reads and brags about it... George Dubya. Dubya is a self-proclaimed Christian Fundamentalist. He really thinks the Earth is about 5,000 years old and all the dinosaurs died in the great flood. Ask him about evolution and he'll say it's still an open question. And he believes the god of Islam is an idol. He believes it's followers are being tricked into hell by Satan and yes, God himself placed him in the Oval Office, because there is a "special plan" for each of us. Now I know people will rant and rave and say he never said any of those things and I can't possibly know what the President believes. Well I know what Christian Fundamentalists believe. I know that strict adherence to these beliefs is not a matter to be discussed or debated. In order to "believe right" you surrender yourself completely. Bush is a fundamentalist, just like Bin-Laden is a fundamentalist. Their beliefs are concrete and anyone that disagrees is a heretic. The only difference is Bush can't come right out and say what he really thinks without blowing gig. So don't expect any finger wagging in Boykin's direction from Bush. Bush himself secretly agrees with those remarks. And decrying them would be a sin against his own faith, and against the millions of other fundamentalists he must pander to in order to keep his job next November. John of Ohio I just read on Yahoos daily headlines that Barbara Bush thinks the Democrats are a "sorry bunch." I didn't bother to read it....For her to say that much, just speaks to the fact that she is as stupid as the family that she produced....We all know that the "Bush" family, all are a SORRY BUNCH..... Proves that there is none so blind as they that cannot see.........It sure shows where the "IDIOTS" arrogance comes from........ Genie Subj: Crazy Girl Ann Coulter just stated 10-21-03 on Limbaugh that the Homeland Security folks intercepted a dirty bomb in New York Harbor. Either she is nuts (probable) or the leaker in the administration is nuttier to entrust this info to loose cannon. Pat PS. Next she will blame the Lindbergh kidnapping on Ted Kennedy Subj: Doomed to Repeat It . . . During World War II, the Japanese used a suicide tactic by pilots who became known as “kamikazes.”Over 7,465 such attacks resulted in the sinking of 120 allied ships, the killing of 3,048 allied soldiers and the wounding of 6,025 others. In 2001, extremists refined this tactic and killed over 3,000. “I don't think anybody could have predicted that these people would take an airplane and slam it into the World Trade Center, take another one and slam it into the Pentagon,”Bush's national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, said. So all these great brains, all these great “think tanks,”couldn’t outthink a guy on dialysis in a cave in Afghanistan who used a tactic from 6 decades ago. Too busy planning world domination, no doubt. Turk Dear BuzzFlash, I am trying to read Eric Alterman's "What Liberal Media?" and I'm finding it difficult to do so because it's literally making me physically ill. I have made it to his chapter on Florida and grew so stressed that I couldn't finish it. The funny thing is that with this chapter and the one before it, I remember hearing all these lies because I followed the campaigns closely in 2000. I remember thinking that Gore needed to stop exaggerating even up until the end; this after I became aware that 'the Internet', 'Love Story', and I think the 'Love Canal' lies had been refuted. Though I was a Gore supporter the lies, while they didn't change my mind, they had me denouncing Gore to myself. Just think of the affect they had on people who tuned in sporadically. I am hoping that 2004 will be better for all of us! I hope I can interest you in this suggestion: With all the people who read BuzzFlash and the other sites that you link to, we could initiate an e-mail campaign against any journalist that distorts the Democratic candidate's words. These people should not have a free ride this time around. I don't mean just your typical conservative mouthpieces, but those journalists who work for the mainstream papers and networks. If the Democrats go down this time, let it not be because we've been fed lies by the media. Glenda Smith Thought you'd be glad to read this....
Re: What DeLay left out of his "Iraq By The Numbers" Wouldn't hurt to add one final statistic at the bottom of the row of goose-eggs in this article:
Cheers, -- Arne Langsetmo Subj: Rush and Equality Check the recent archives. Someone posted something about Tommy Chong and his getting busted for selling bongs (they are meant to be used with tobacco only) resulting in 6 months behind bars while it looks like Rush is getting a walk from a hardcore, longterm involvement in "hillbilly heroin" (he was using it personally. It wasn't for resale.....right 2000 mg of Oxycontin a day and still play golf) Could Ashcroft explain this apparent disparity or do we just not really understand the difference in the way these two cases are handled? A BuzzFlash Reader [BuzzFlash Note: You can read about Tommy Chong here. Ashcroft is a scary freak of a human being and deserves no less than to spend the rest of his life in solitary confinement so he can get some quality time with those voices in his head.] Subj: Barbara Bush Dear BuzzFlash, Barbara Bush is shameless! George W. is his mother's son, for sure. Indeed, ALL, her apples did not fall far from THIS tree! I need not say more! A Grandmother, loyal, BuzzFlash Reader Subj: the texas asso. of business thanks all of you! between you and c-span there is some truth out there. i would like to bring your attention to an on going story here in texas concerning illegal campaign contributions. so far i have not seen anything on your site about the law suit. it looks as though this republican group is finally be forced to reveal their corporate donors. the most recent story appears today on page 6a tuesday, oct. 21 the dallas morning news. again many many thanks mary morrison ulrich Subj: Tell others to stop the Florida-tion of the 2004 election Today, there is a new and real threat to voters, this time coming from touchscreen voting machines with no paper trails and the computerized purges of voter rolls. I just joined Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King III and investigative reporter Greg Palast in protesting the Florida-tion of the 2004 election. It only took me a few minutes and I'm hoping you'll join in, too. Click here to go to verifiedvoting.org - once there, scroll down to the action alerts. http://www.verifiedvoting.org/ Here's the most important thing you can do: Congressman Rush Holt of New Jersey and 30 co-sponsors (all Democrats, no Republicans have so-far joined in) have introduced the Voter Confidence Act, HR 2239, which would require a voter-verifiable audit trail on every voting system. I urge every reader to call senators and representatives immediately. Tell them that a voter-verifiable paper ballot is absolutely critical. Tell them to support HR 2239. Without a paper record, no one will ever believe the next election was fair and honest. And no one should. Please write a letter to the editor of your newspaper. Please forward this message to anyone that you know who might be interested Thank you. Bill More background [LINK] Subj: The Decent Thing to Do
Naturally, I agree with President Bush that "decent and humane" people are obliged do something about a country with no free elections, suppression by murder of political opposition, torture, secret trials and executions, public beheadings, amputations, whippings, stoning to death, --- among so many other abominations. A country with proven links to Al Qaeda and indisputable evidence linking it to 9/11 cannot be permitted to go unpunished. That country is not Iraq, of course, its Saudi Arabia.* But President Bush seems perfectly willing to let selected brutal regimes repress, murder and torture to their heart's content, export terrorism, and harbor terrorists, just as long as they will let us have what we want. (*State Dept. Human Rights Report, 2002; It is Al Qaeda's "most important source of funds" Council on Foreign Relations ) Albert Clark, NY Subj: How does Rush like to be addressed?? I heard a recording of Rush Limbaugh today ridiculing John Kerry for wanting to be called John F. Kerry now that he's running for President. Pretty ironic when you consider that for years Rush didn't mind answering to whatever name happened to be on an Oxycontin prescription. A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Army Investigates Treatment of Ill Iraq Veterans Today's NY Times story (at LINK) about the horrendous treatment of returning troops from Iraq that need medical attention is, without a doubt, the worst news yet since we invaded that country based on lies and contrived intelligence. I thought I had some idea of how bad this story was after reading about it in the UPI report, followed by stories in 4 different papers. But I wasn't even close! Ask anyone you know who has been in the military how bad things would need to be before a Colonel in charge of the garrison would make the following statement to a member of the media: "And we're open to any suggestions on how to fix this." Before today, I wouldn't have expected anyone above the rank of Second Lieutenant to even consider saying something like that even to just a higher ranking officer, never mind the press. In a case of the magnitude of an accidental nuclear explosion on a military base I doubt a Colonel would talk about being open to suggestions. It just can't happen! To have a Colonel confirm that things are that bad for our returning troops that are sick and/or wounded tells me that we have become everything I fear about us in my worst nightmares. Jack Ballinger Subj: RNC's Barbour links himself to Racist CCC by not acting
Markoff Subj: Treason and other stuff Hello there friends, As I follow the Intimigate story, I am still astounded that the press has not admitted one important point about Robert Novak's sin: He is not protected by the First Amendment in this case. Just as "freedom of speech" famously does not extend to shouting "fire!" in a crowded theater, the revelation of the identities of spies in time of war is not protected. If a pamphleteer decided to publish the names of the US's spies, and hand it out to the enemy, he would be arrested, tried quickly, and shot. Yes, the penalty for revealing the identities of spies to the enemy during wartime is death. And we are at war, particularly since the spy in question's specialty was Weapons of Mass Destruction. This man Novak did more than publish a pamphlet: He used one of America's most powerful and best-read newspapers to commit this crime. He may protect his sources right up past the time they tie on the blindfold, it makes no difference. He will not be, and should not be regarded as, a heroic example of the press under duress. In this instance, Novak is not a journalist being deprived of his rights, he is a traitor being punished for betraying his country, and endangering America and it's people. Perhaps he can be persuaded to reveal the perpetrators in the Administration in return for, say, life without parole. Best regards, John Struthers Subj: Bouquet of Lies BuzzFlash, [LINK] Many BuzzFlash readers, including myself, have classified the contradictions in statements made by different members of the administration as "mistakes." After reading the link above, I am now convinced that these are deliberate and calculated, part of a new public deception technique, "The Bouquet of Lies:" Each lie will be believed by different audience. Whether some are contradictory or not is irrelevant. It doesn’t matter! The Bouquet has its effect on the intended audience. Some will only believe a few of the lies. They will become hesitant to criticize. Some will believe them all, particularly members of the Christian Rightwing. They, though a small minority, will have a chilling effect on politicians and the media. Their votes can mean winning or losing an election to the politician. Their outrage can mean negative ratings for the media. And when violence is needed, as in the storming of the vote count in Florida in 2002, members of that group can be found ready and willing to use it. This explains why Democrats have been so timid. This explains why the media has become irrelevant to the real news. Even the critical news media, in portraying the recent propaganda film about Bush and 9/11 as fiction, missed the mark. The real news was how far propaganda can go and still be acceptable to a Democracy. This neglect validates that the Bouquet is working. Imagine if Clinton had released a movie portraying him as a defender of woman’s rights while he was in office. Imagine the outrage. Yet no outrage on the Bush film. Clinton, although a master politician, didn’t master the "Bouquet of Lies." The use of "psy-ops" against the American public has to be exposed at some point or we will find ourselves in a totalitarian state. But the longer it goes on, the more courage it will take. Larry, Maryland Subj: Mailbag Oct 21 - Barbara Bush aka reborn Marie Antoinette hi buzz, everyday i'm thankful for your articles - i often copy your comments or mailbag only to store some quotations - it's soooo good to know, that there are people who do "not accept the way things are. Question. Stand. Speak. Act." (http://www.BuzzFlash.com/contributors/03/10/con03202.html) and so - thank you and thanks to Richard for citing these unbelievable words, which should repeated around the whole world again and again:
these words remind me of the words of Marie Antoinette, last Queen of France, when she was asked, what the starving people of her nation should eat: "if they have no bread, than they should eat cake" - this pampered lady answered without any knowledge how normal people feel, how normal people live and suffer and exactly that is the background of Mrs. Bush's words - death of " kid-soldiers", lost limbs, lost futures, lost lives of young American doesn't matter any more - fine, fine!! Please don't disturb me! Don't WASTE my time!! They shall eat cake! BTW: "beautiful mind"?? A lady who never had worked who believes - while living in a democracy - to have the rights of a queen, who doesn't care for other humans, even for young persons of her own nation - who can look at "kids", starving, oppressed, full of pain without the needs to change this: will never be able to have a "beautiful mind" - she is nothing more than a great human looking parasite (sorry for these harsh words, but i remember the words of the French for Marie Antoinette - they were harsher) if this lady want to know, how persons with a beautiful mind look like, she should read Mark Twain or Harry S. Truman: "There is nothing more foolish than to think that war can be stopped by war. You don't 'prevent' anything by war except peace." - As George Orwell pointed out, they will refuse to see what's right in front of their noses. He called this condition a kind of political schizophrenia, and society can live quite comfortably with it, he said, until "a false belief bumps up against solid reality, usually on a battlefield." these words - and the story of Marie Antoinette - prove that time has come for a change - but i hope, this will not happen "on a battlefield". Bevier Subj: the GOP Overseas Outsourcing Thank you for breaking the GOP Overseas Outsourcing Story back in January of this year. I noticed that other news sources pooh-poohed the story when your link to Just thought you would like to know that Google still has a cached version of the Business Standard article proving your story was true. Here is the link: [LINK] Maybe now that some in the press are starting to carry real news, someone will take notice of this story. Thanks for all of your hard work! Kim Grittner Subj: barbara witch with a "B" As one who has lived in Texas for many years and knows several people who have crossed paths with the less-than-fabulous mrs. b, I thought you would be interested in what she is called by those who "know": 'The Meanest Woman in Texas'. Interestingly, when a mentioned this to my Marine son he said that that was " common knowledge" in the Armed Services. She is known to be petty and vindictive, and dubya is exactly like her. Long memories of so-called offenses. Why didn't a Houston area university as prestigious as Rice get the Bush Presidential Library? Because "bar" held a huge grudge against Jim Baker for not being "loyal" enough to poppy. Hence, Texas A&M--just a bit off the beaten trail--got the library. BTW: mrs. dubya was always known as the "Prozac Queen". Wonder why? Liz [BuzzFlash Note: With W for a husband and Barbara for a mother-in-law, we'd prefer "mother's little helper" to reality any day of the week.] Subj: republicans blasting the media BuzzFlash; The Republicans are now on the war path and accusing the media of being to liberal in their reporting. This accusation couldn't be further from the truth! If the Media would release half of the negative information concerning Bush and his administration the American people would be so alarmed that they would not only be calling for impeachment, but possible criminal proceedings. We know that the media would never do that or anything else that might cause harm to the Bush cartel. The claim by the Repug of liberal media bias is nothing more than a decoy to distract from the real conservative media biases. Observing how the media is reporting concerning this administration you would have to be an idiot or think that everyone else is to believe that crap. 2004 is right around the corner and when, not if, this group of bums are voted out of office we can only hope that the media will report fairly because they won't need spin to highlight the incoming administration accomplishments. James Epperson Subj: THANK YOU Dear BuzzFlash, Thanks soooooooo much for the article on Clark. We out here in the Clarksphere are having to pen so many letters to all these "mainstream" journalists daily, who are trying to discredit Clark. Thanks Thanks GO BuzzFlash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Re Rummy's memo Dear BuzzFlash,
Forgive my distrust, but Rumsfeld's apparent candidness expressed in his memo to "top-ranking Defense officials" suggests to me more that this is yet another ruse for him to bypass generals skeptical of his shenanigans, and a public weary of Vietnams (and Iraqs?). According to various reports, Rumsfeld already set up his own intelligence agency within the Pentagon to provide him intelligence with which to counter any that the CIA provides that may not jive with his vision. It is no secret that Rumsfeld does not trust or get along with U.S. military leaders, and favors deploying smaller, "elite" forces made up of Ft. Bragg inmates and led by the likes of people like Gen. Boykin. Sure the memo speaks of "mixed results" -- because the Rummy-PNAC axis would love to get it all their way. This story seems then to me to be a Trojan horse whose teeth we should definitely check twice before accepting it as a Rummy revelation. A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: "Leaked" Rumsfeld memo To the fantastic team of BuzzFlash media miners: As a former army intelligence analyst, I can tell you that the "leaked" Rumsfeld memo is a transparently obvious planned leak by Rumsfeld, probably to move the focus and the funding away from Condi and back to himself. That is not the type of memo a Secretary of Defense writes to his chief deputies in preparation for a meeting. It contains lay language rather than DoD language, and very, very little content. If it were a real memo in advance of a meeting it would refer to specific ops, would be classified "top secret," and would list specific agenda items and reporting requirements. Just watch: Rumsfeld will NOT have a hissy fit about this leak. A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Rewind! Back when Bush was running for prez, the repugs poo pood any mention of abortion. They said it was not an issue. Bush said it is the rule of the land. A non issue. We heard that stuff anytime anyone dared to point out Bush was pro life. Not an issue. They would say it is legal and that's not going to change. Go back and look at your tapes! This was over and over. These people just can't stop lying! Shorty Subj: Interview with Gene Lyons Hi BuzzFlash, I loved reading your interview with Gene Lyons, however, I think both of you missed an important point when discussing the 2004 election. You're forgetting about the re-distribution of electoral votes based on the results of the 2000 census. "As you've pointed out, if the Democratic candidate wins every state that Gore won, all the Democrats have to do is just pick off one more, whether it's Arkansas or West Virginia, and the Democrats take the White House." Some of the states Gore won no longer have the same number of electoral votes they did in 2000, so winning every state that Gore won while picking up Arkansas or West Virginia won't win them back the White House. The blue states lost 6 electoral votes to the red states after the 2000 census. Arkansas has 6 and West Virginia has 5. We need to win more than one of those two states to declare victory. If the 2000 election been held using the 2004 numbers, Bush would have won 278-259-1. http://www.presidentelect.org/art_newev.html DesertDem Subj: 60 Minutes II Story of Last Week Dear BuzzFlash: Why haven't we seen anything in the news about the assistant to Colin Powell on 60 Minutes II last week? Where is the outrage? All I have seen since then about Powell is his successful venture at getting the UN to pass the resolution unanimously since this story came out, hollow as it was. Nothing, absolutely nothing, about how he lied to us and that it was confirmed by his assistant (no longer employed by the State Department). This is big news and everybody seems to be ignoring it. Powell's credibility appears to not be suffering (his credibility is shot as far as I'm concerned) as no one is following this story. Why? BuzzFlash also dropped the ball on this as I haven't read a thing about it on your website. I may have missed it, but I doubt it. If this wasn't important, why would CBS devote their time to it? Why would the rest of the media ignore it? Sincerely, Cary G. Krenk [BuzzFlash Note: You can read more about Greg Thielmann's revelations HERE.] |
