BuzzFlash,

I love the comment by DeLay's spokesman: it would be wrong to link campaign contributions to legislative activity - but no denial that that's what happened!

Subj: DeLay Introduces "Good News in Iraq" Website

Juliet Eilperin, The Washington Post, October 20, 2003 [LINK]

House Republicans are doing their best to tout good news in Iraq. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) is announcing a new Web site, which will capture the "real stories and provide one-stop shopping for the media, people interested in what is really happening in Iraq and military groups," said DeLay spokesman Stuart Roy.

The site (tomdelay.house.gov/IRAQ/ iraqindex.htm) includes pictures of lawmakers standing by newly minted schools, visiting Iraqis in new hospitals and posing with military personnel from their home states.

The site has the headline "Victory in Iraq" and includes sections such as "How Media Deceive You About Iraq" and "Reconstruction in Iraq Vital in Winning War on Terror."

Subj: From: Internet Patent News Service

DRUG LOBBY SPENDS $8.5 MILLION TO FIGHT US IMPORTATION BILL

As a good example of why Congressional consideration of intellectual property issues will never be fair nor balanced, the 13 October issue of Wall Street Journal, page A15, reports that the pharmaceutical industry's trade group, PhRMA, spent $8.5 million in the first half of the year lobbying Congress against a bill to allow importation of prescription drugs into the United States from less expensive sources. The companies themselves spent more, bringing the total to $29 million.

I happen to agree with the industry on this issue. If Americans want the benefit of price control on drugs, then Congress should pass laws to do so. But it is immature and hypocritical for Congress to instead pass laws allowing Americans to buy drugs from countries where they do have price controls. If Americans want the benefit of price control on drugs, do it at home.

Still, I do not think that industries should have so much of an advantage in lobbying because of their access to tons of money. And on this issue, I wish PhRMA would stop its idiotic argument that if there were price controls, research into new drugs would be cut back. Mismanagement of their behemoth R&D operations is a much bigger problem.

Subj: Taming the press, hiding the truth

The Newsweek story below shows why the casualty figures are so suspect. This is also reflected in the letters from military personnel who often provide figures totally different from the official figures. As the story below indicates the National Security Council has set up 4 committees to in effect "control the news". If may be painted as being sure the good news gets out, but is there any doubt that as with the casualty figures it is being censored? As the story indicates the Coalition's internal casualty report is not used at briefings. In this case apparently it was leaked so the reporters were able to compare the internal report with the briefing.

There should be an investigation of what this administration is doing to control the news coming back to the US. Don't forget the problems with the Reagan/Bush administration and their use of planted and slanted stories. And recently we had the phony letters to the editor campaign.

Hi BuzzFlash,

TIME FOR A TAPE!!

His ratings are dropping, the economy’s sinking
Corporate crime’s running rampant, and George is just winking
The spy leaking scandal won’t soon be forgotten
It’s time for a tape of Osama Bin Laden!!

The recovery's jobless, the deficit's soaring
But they constantly tell us to stop the class-warring
The morale of our troops just gets more and more rotten
Hey it’s time for a tape of Osama Bin Laden!!

The lies and the cover-ups are driving us crazy
And their plans for Iraq just get more and more hazy
Condi, Colin and Rummy look so very downtrodden
So it's time for a tape of Osama Bin Laden!!

Said Cheney to Rumsfeld, this is what I suspect
Osama’s taped warnings may have lost their affect
Said Rumsfeld to Cheney, if the tapes do not work
We’ll just wake up Tom Ridge and he’ll say RED ALERT!!!

Dear BuzzFlash,

I fall into the camp that believes party "insiders" have begun to worry more about holding on to their power personal bases than winning elections and that Dean's internet successes threaten to put the power back into the hands of rank and file Democrats, instead of the insiders who have come up with some truly lousy election and other strategies as of late. I hope Dean turns out to be a "transformative figure", because our Dem leadership needs a transformation and the insertion of a firm and unbending backbone. The 87-12 vote for the $87B Iraq reconstruction just shows that no matter how much these guys bitch and moan about Bush's policies, the Dem leaders are still afraid to stand up to him. There should have been at least 30 Dems with the backbone to stand their ground in the Senate, but only 12? It's becoming a joke (a really sick one).

Dean Sparks Debate On His Potential To Remold Party
By Thomas B. Edsall

Howard Dean's success raising money and mobilizing voters has provoked a growing debate among Democratic and Republican strategists over whether the former Vermont governor has the potential to become a "transformative" political figure, altering, for better or worse, the financial and constituent base of the Democratic Party.

Subj: Another Rice Lie

From the New York Times “State Dept. Study Foresaw Trouble Now Plaguing Iraq”[LINK]

Their findings included a much more dire assessment of Iraq's dilapidated electrical and water systems than many Pentagon officials assumed. They warned of a society so brutalized by Saddam Hussein's rule that many Iraqis might react coolly to Americans' notion of quickly rebuilding civil society.

According to the article, the Pentagon was made aware of the findings in this report in February, 2003. I can’t find the actual quote, but didn’t Condoleeza Rice invoke the “Sgt. Schultz Defense”by saying that they were unaware of the condition of Iraq’s infrastructure and that’s why the cost to rebuild is so much higher than their rosy projections? Perhaps if GWB read his own newspapers, she would have time to read the results of a year-long study. Isn’t her job to coordinate the various agencies?

Condi really needs to go. I am so tired of seeing her on the Sunday shows telling us what the Resident thinks, how he thinks, etc. Is she “channeling”him or do a Vulcan Mind Meld? “Your thoughts are my thoughts!”

Another question that comes to mind is why was this study begun in April, 2002? Exactly when did the State Department and the Pentagon begin their planning for Operation Iraqi Quagmire? The more that comes out about the planning, the more apparent the wholesale propaganda campaign to sway public opinion is exposed.

Subj: Barbara Bush

Aren't we all getting tired of Barbara Bush whining about how badly the Democrats are treating her poor, spoiled son GW! Perhaps the mothers, wives, and loved ones of those killed in Vietnam should ask Mr. and Mrs. Bush Sr. where their spoiled rotten, alcoholic son was hiding when he was supposed to be flying with the Texas Air National Guard. Also, was it really necessary for NBC to do that puff piece on George and Barbara. Sounds like free political advertising to me. Of course, I'm sure if they had asked any really hard questions they would never have agreed to appear on the show. It's galling that three of her sons have been involved in shady business dealings and she criticizes others. Those living in glass houses, Barbara.

Subj: Colonel Sam Gardiner

A new report by retired Air Force Colonel Sam Gardiner charges the U.S. and Britain relied on information warfare and psychological operations to inform the public in the lead-up and during the invasion of Iraq. He outlines over 50 stories that appeared in the U.S. media that were either purposely false or misleading.

Subj: Books for Iraq

Can you find out what company published the books that have been sent to Iraq and what ties it has to the Bush family? Where did all of the book authors, that know how to write using their customs and languages, suddenly appear? Just how fast did they write books that allowed "book companies" enough time to publish them in such great quantities and send them out in record time?

Thank you for looking into this matter,

joe

Subj: 10/18 story about wounded/sick soldiers at Ft Stewart GA

On Saturday, 10/18, you published a link to a UPI story about the squalid conditions in which wounded/sick reservists returned from Iraq were enduring at Ft Stewart. I saw a screen crawl item referring to it on CNN on Sunday. But aside from that, there have been no other stories that I could find. Was it legit? If so, isn't ANYBODY going to pick this up and make a stink over it? If true, this could be the last straw for some loyal military/ex-military supporters of this idiot president and his shameless cronies.

Subj: W's 1968?

I don't know about Vietnam, but if the mainstream media had done its job of exposing the Bush doctrines for what they truly are, we probably would not be in the current Iraq quagmire. The mainstream media ignored the BuzzFlash's of the World, proclaiming that any dissenters to the pro-war chickenhawks' war drumbeat were traitors or did not support the troops. Now we, as well as innocent Iraqi citizens, are left to clean up the mess. As in the words of Chris Rock, we're "tired, tired, tired, tired" of the mainstream media's johnny-come-lateness.

Subj: Barbara Bush

In all my life, I never wanted to stoop to the level of Coulter, Ingraham or O'Reilly. But I can't help it this time. After hearing Barbara Bush calling the Democrats "a sorry lot" I can't help but ask: Is she so ugly because she is so mean or is she so mean because she is so ugly? THESE PEOPLE ARE LOW-LIFE SCUM ...JUST LOOK AT WHAT SHE SPAWNED!

(ok, I took a deep breath before sending...no guilt. Here it comes.)

Subj: Bush the Misinformed Leader

Dear BuzzFlash,

Let's see, Bush does not read, he apparently does not like to watch t.v very much, he relies on his staff to keep him informed, so we should not be surprised that we have a very misinformed misleader. He seems totally out of touch with reality and the American people. He seems to be very well informed about the wealthiest and their needs, and continuously does favors for them. Perhaps these wealthy buddies should now get together and help pay down the record breaking deficit that the white house decided to announce today. Bush should be kicked out of the white house next year, because I cannot take another four years of this excruciating pain.

A little advice for my fellow BuzzFlashers - Karl Rove is definitely going to pull something nasty out of his bag of tricks before the elections, so be fully prepared to deal with some sleazy, underhand tactics from these con artists, since they cannot win elections in a legal manner, they will be resorting to lies and deceptions.

Subj: Why Indeed

Barbara Bush makes it absolutely clear why she, and by inference her brilliant son the President, have more important things to deal with than dead American soldiers. Barbara reminds that we should never attempt to deflect a brilliant mind with the mundaneness of daily minutiae.

" ...why should we hear about body bags, and deaths, and how many, what day it's gonna happen, and how many this or what do you suppose? Or, I mean, it's, it's not relevant. So, why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?"

-- Barbara Bush on ABC/Good Morning America, March 18, 2003

Subj: Seymour's Back!

Dear BuzzFlash,

It is just me, or has Mr. Hersh been MIA? I've been worried about, and missing him, especially since Herr Perle-bag threatened libel against him. If only you could wish it wasn't the truth - you'd think you'd think his latest was a chapter from a spy novel. When Mr. Hersh writes about the dirty laundry this administration used to, and continues to hang out on the line re Iraq, you have to wonder. If God appointed George to be President, and the U.S. Attorney General is a sycophant, drooling on the "chosen one's shoes," who exactly (when most of Senate and the House have their private parts and brains tied in a tight string), are we supposed to look to take control? The Supreme Court? Har.

If God appointed George Bush, as the moron in the military believes, then where's the lightening bolt to strike the rest of us heathen American's and the rest of the Muslim world down when we don't believe the crap that has been heaped on us? Month after month, day after day, year after year they have been blabbing their lies at us. Sunday's used to be for church. Now Sunday TV is for bullshit. These last few years, we tune into TV for entertainment but now wonder, who is going to be the next guest whore in church - sweating like one as they tell lie after lie after lie. TV SUCKS anymore - especially talk shows. TV talk shows -You can all bite me- except for David Letterman.

Reading Seymour Hersh today brought to mind the picture of Wolfowitz, Perle (though his name was not mentioned), Cheney, Rumsfeld, Condi, and the rest of this twisted gang in a circle jerk. Anybody know what that is? I'll spare you. But beating off to a rhythm of false intelligence and faked stories while sons and daughters of our nation die - just where, oh where is the lightening bolt?

God has given our nation a chance to heal for at a minimum - 30 days - imagine it, while Rush has to withdraw from our universe. We even get a break from George for a few days while he is off in Asia. Alas, he cannot be part of the circle jerk, but does enough to discredit himself just by opening his mouth. As if he even needed to do that. I don't imagine he'll be getting campaign contributions while he is off playing world leader.

Anyways, imagine our world if no opinions were needed on the Sunday talk shows. Imagine a world where Rush may never again opens his mouth to spew over the airwaves. Imagine instead, the ditto heads listening to the sound of the waves washing up on the beach for 3 hours everyday. On Sunday's we go with Tim Russert to the beach, and take a mind vacation (if only in our minds because we have been too terrorized by overbooked flights and color coded alerts to leave our homes, also we better go soon before there's an ecological disaster). We walk along the shore. Listen to the waves. Feel the sand beneath our feet. OHHMMmmmm. Seymour RULES. Herr Perle you suck donkeys daily: sue me. Like the mustard seed - nothing you sow will grow on a rock.

Subj: Rush's ratings, back to 17 in DC

Go to the bottom for Rush's Arbitron ratings book. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy, he dropped back to 17th where he has been for a long time. Maybe that is why he was doing drugs.

Rush Limbaugh, who announced last week that he's battling an addiction to painkillers and will take a leave of absence from his talk show to try to kick the habit, also saw his winter-spring Washington honeymoon come to an end. After rising from 17th last fall to eighth this spring among 25-to-54-year-old listeners in the 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. time slot (the show airs from noon to 3 p.m. on WMAL-AM), Limbaugh was back at No. 17. Perhaps someone with the know-how can do this. Track down the sentence given to average people who have done what limbaugh has. In the unlikely event he gets taken to court we can compare the treatment. So far it looks like he won't be charged at all. I'd like to hear what has happened to others in his shoes.

Subj: Today Show

The disgusting lie about Jessica Lynch was repeated on the Today Show when hawking a new book to expand the lie. Doesn't the media know they have no creditability with the public that pays attention to their propaganda for the regime and the more they lie the more of the public that knows the lie. We are not quite the same as Nazi Germany before WWll.

Subj: American casualties in Iraq

To the Editor:

In regard to Soldiers' Morale Chipped Away In Tikrit by Patrick Quinn (AP), I believe it is safe to surmise that it is the arrogance and duplicity of President Bush and his advisers which has condemned the bulk of American troops stationed in Iraq to a macabre but fatalistic game of lottery, in which every soldier is free to guess, but never knowing who is going to be the next victim to be sacrificed on the altar of the administration's incompetence and idiocy.

Truly,
