Dear Editor: I just saw the AP photograph of Bush sporting a halo [LINK]. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be some kind of comment on Bush's monstrous, overblown self-regard. Still, there's this lingering doubt that, as has happened to numerous mainstream media outlets, the marrow of AP's soul has been sucked dry by the 'pod people' so I have to ask: are you freaking kidding? Please, please, please tell me this is satirical. Please? Sincerely, Rosamond Fogg Subj: The President Speaks the Truth
You're finally right on something, Mr. President. The American people have a sense that we aren't getting the truth. That would be because you ran for president on a trumped-up resume, you lost the 2000 election yet you sit in the White House, and you dress up like Tom Cruise to tell us "Mission Accomplished" when our military casualties sadly illustrate it's not...not by a long shot. You force the noxious Patriot Act down the nation's throat while protecting criminals in your own administration...criminals who willingly compromise our national security just to "send a message" to American citizens with opinions differing from yours. And the mainstream media, after years of turning every nut-job Clinton-hating theory into a lead story, lives in abject fear of losing White House "access." So they swallow whatever venal, craven horseshit spoon-fed to them while you, ironically, complain they're not giving you a fair shake. So you're right, Mr. President. We have a sense we're not getting the truth. That's because we see your lips moving. Lynne Keeley Subj: I'm telling you . . . Osama and Saddam will be served up, beautifully laid out embalmed in coffins about a month or so before election 04. This latest sighting of Saddam is getting us ready for the big event.......Trust me guy's on this one. The sad part of it all is the dumb Americans will fall for it hook, line and sinker and rush out and ELECT the Resident this time......mark my words. After "Governor Butt Grabber's" election, anything is possible and I'm afraid to admit it the Dems seem to be asleep at the wheel every time. Dean is the only one with BALLS. Colette Miller Subj: The Washington Post refuses to run Boondocks this week Dear BuzzFlash, This week, the Washington Post will not be running The Boondocks for fear (I suppose) of pissing off Condi. Below is a link to Boondocks so that others can also get their fix of one of the most intelligent comics since the demise of Bloom County. http://www.ucomics.com/boondocks/2003/10/14/ Thanks, Y Subj: Patriot Act vote Folks: Thought you might want to know that my hometown, Huntington, W.Va., has joined the scores of others cities that have registered their dissatisfaction with the Patriot Act. Monday night, Huntington City Council voted 6-5 to voice its displeasure with the act. A story about the vote can be found on the Web site of The Herald-Dispatch, the Huntington newspaper, at www.herald-dispatch.com. Keep up the good work. Mickey Johnson Subj: Junkie Polarizes Nation-Media Ducking A junkie with an open microphone has unprecedented influence and power over the political discourse of this nation. One junkie is the most polarizing figure in America today and major media outlets talk only about his unfortunate drug problem. We get an endless parade of addiction experts and apologists. Well this is one drug problem that actually does affect millions! Major media cowards are all too scared to: 1) Introduce Limbaugh, through his own words, to a very large and very diverse audience . 2) Engage people from left and right who understand "El Rushbo's" brand of Conservatism. There is no shortage of solid information about him. 3) Bring to light Limbaugh’s very close ties to extremely prominent members of the GOP. A junkie with 20 million listeners. Many of those 20 million believing and trusting in Rush Limbaugh - the man, the icon, the junkie. Limbaugh listeners vote 3-1 GOP. He's floating along, but he delivers. Years of Rush’s stoned out, influential misinforming and demonizing of the fantasy "liberal media" has likely captured some extremists. Major media just doesn't have the courage to fight off the volume of attacks, both figuratively and possibly literally, that would occur should they dissect Limbaugh’s hate filled, drug addled world. FEAR will muzzle the incredibly huge and important story of an ambitious, wealthy and powerful Right-Wing junkie, whose stoned daily monologues divide our Country. A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Ashcroft's Rush Dear BuzzFlash: We have all recently read in news stories about how John Ashcroft has been criticizing lenient sentences in criminal cases, and actively pressuring prosecutors and judges to seek out offenders and punish them with the maximum sentences allowable by law. Where are Attorney General Ashcroft's demands to Florida prosecutors to seek charges against Rush Limbaugh, and prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law? Why is Ashcroft suddenly so quiet on the Rush Limbaugh drug investigation? Here, Ashcroft has a wonderful opportunity to expose a high-profile drug abuser and to send a message to the country that EVERYONE will be held equally accountable under the law, regardless of wealth or position. The silence from the right is deafening. From Ashcroft. From Jerry Falwell. From all the Republicans who have established career markers by praising the need for zero tolerance and maximum sentencing for anyone caught buying or using dangerous drugs illegally. ALL of the nine remaining Democratic contenders for the parties nomination need to take the fight to these hypocrites and debate nationally the two-faced rhetoric Ashcroft and his ilk are so quick to spew, whenever the average American finds themselves under investigation for illegally purchasing and using drugs. Continuing the good fight, Taylor White Subj: Mailbag 10/13 Dear BuzzFlash, Great mailbag today...as always...and I will get this out of the way to begin with;... being a Cardinal fan...I love what the Cubs are doing and hope for all you Chicagoans that they win this...who wouldn't love to see a team that has not had the crown for so long...getting it! It has been a long time for us, too, but we have been trying to give it away for a while...true! Besides the Rams are picking up. Sorry, I couldn't help that congratulatory response!!! Now, on to the things we usually discuss on this site... So far as Leno and Rush...they are not long for this media...I am quite sure people are catching on...I don't think I ever before realized how much funnier Letterman was...and it is not just because he is a fairer person politically....he is just simply funnier! (I have sent Leno and Limbaugh critical posts...) The post from the St. Louis Post Dispatch...by Bill Mcclellan...might have been one of his best...it was Rush Limbaugh's very words...I have heard them over and over about every thing Clinton ever did...his wife the Feminazi...and Nakita Dean and Ashley Wilkes...I do hope we are rid of him for at least 90 days. They say that with the habit he has, it will take at least 90 days...30 days rehab will only scratch the surface...so we have to hope. I listened to his show from the first time I heard about the drug sweep in south Florida...and the fact that the woman was wired on two occasions...they actually have tapes of his voice urging the woman involved to get him more "blues" ...how disgusting is that? On another note...the great army presented to us, the family of my 19 yr. old granddaughter in Baghdad....a video hookup on Friday night...and there was this feeling that something was not right. She looked well, but her demeanor was strange, the only way I can describe it, I just have to think a lot about that. Those kids are so brainwashed they have no thoughts of their own...she mentioned the boat house she was in once belonging to either Usay or Quday..(whatever those names were) the supposed sons of Sadaam...and there have been many questions of "Are they really those men?" Do we have any way of proof...do we have DNA?? So many questions...so little time. Our great presidential candidates keep me going...some I would not vote for...but at least 7 would be perhaps great...the other three would be better than Bush..which is not saying much...but I lean toward, so far, Dean and Clark...the dream ticket! Thanks for all you do for all of us....I will be in Chicago next Fri and Sat...on a bus. trip with my husband...we get to stay on the Lake and I have loved that lake view for so long and it has been twenty years since I have been there...along the lake. Would love to see your offices...but, I realize you are very busy persons, to keep us so informed and do the right thing always.....the real TRUTH!!!!!! Love to Buzz...I really do not know what I would do without you! Shirley.......St. Louis Dear Buzz, Sorry about the many emails on this subject. I can't stand this, it is too absurd!!! Check out these pictures! http://www.jesusoftheweek.com/jesii/264/index.html I don't know when the above picture was taken, but it must be from a first set of photo sessions that were published BEFORE the Iraq war...or when he was posing with the blue tie. (Note his tie color). In the most recently published pictures of $aint $tupid he is wearing a red tie! [LINK] Compare both above pictures to picture scanned from Louisiana newspaper BEFORE the Iraq war!
Either one of two things are going on here. Bush held one session of photo ops where he changed his tie for the planned future use of the pictures OR ... $aint $tupid liked himself immortalized as a Byzantine Era Saint so much that he hired AP to do another session. Either way, this man is one sick puppy! patricia Subj: Rush Limbaugh's Radio Company At the advice of a BuzzFlash reader commentary, I called Premiere Radio Networks, Inc. I was told that they were not allowed to comment on the Rush Limbaugh "situation." The receptionist advised me to e-mail the President of the company at an e-mail address they've set up specifically to receive comments on the future of Rush Limbaugh. That address is I was assured that I would receive a response from the President of the company. I'll let you know if and when I do. Thanks for being who you are, BuzzFlash. You're heroes of mine! Joan Weber Subj: Rummy's Latest Fall Guy Hi BuzzFlash, Martha Raddatz' ABC article explains some of the 'letters home,' but what about those letters from GI's who claimed that they neither wrote nor signed any letter? Wouldn't their letters be forgeries? Keep up the good work, Pete Moulton Subj: Bush and the Press For those of us who get our news from more than one source, and from more than one medium, many of us have wondered how long it would be before members of the press were included in "you're either for us or for the evildoers". When the White house and Bush were getting good press, and his polls were up, George W. Bush didn't complain about the press. But since Bush's recent fall in the polls and the talk that he might lose the next election, he's gotten much more testy with members of the press. Those of us who don't live in Washington, have watched this administration and the president himself deride those who disagree with him. He has frequently lashed out at reporters who spoke a different language or as with Helen Thomas, asked difficult questions. Too may times the press has allowed his immature displays of anger at them to go unreported, however it has frequently shown up on comedy shows. There are too many people in this administration who are willing to retaliate against those who disagree with them. I hope the press will begin to assert their independence and begin to hold this and all future administrations accountable. The future of our country just might depend on that happening. As ever, Neb Subj: Texas Redistricting One consequence of the Texas redistricting which is just now receiving press coverage is the racial aspect. The new districts would pack minorities into a few districts. These districts would elect minority Democratic representatives. White Democrats have been redistricted into heavily dominated Republican districts (up to 60%), ensuring their defeat. The "face" of the Democratic Party in Texas, to many whites, would then be brown and black. The message: "Whites need not apply". This hits at the bigotry and fear of many "Bubbas" in Texas that the Republican Party has exploited successfully in the past. I am not saying that all Republicans are racists: but racism is an ugly, underlying facet of the Republican Party these days. Republicans have been blatantly overt about their racist goals this time. Kay (the disenfranchised) Subj: Getting Iraqis to Subcontract I couldn't believe what I was hearing last night on NPR's Marketplace. Tompie Hall's (see below) company is an American contractor in Iraq who is seeking Iraqi subcontractors (i.e., manpower) to complete the project. The gist of it is: You Iraqis pay our company $7500/month in order to get to be a subcontractor. And if you don't, well, we'll find people in India who will pay up. The Iraqi sheik in the conversation is incredulous. Very grapesofwrathesque. Joanne * * *
RE: What You Can Do To Speed (Pun Intended) Rush's Retirement One more important suggestion. Write, call, visit in person, the program director and/or general manager of the local affiliate radio station that is carrying this tripe. Thanks, J Johnson Subj: Bush as Jesus Submission Dear Buzz...Saw the "haloed" Bush AP photo and lost my appetite just as I was sitting down to a big T-Bone steak. Thanks a bunch... How long do you suppose it took the AP photog to position Stinky W. exactly in the center of the halo? This is all part and parcel of the administration's outrageous reality-show public relations crusade -- in one week we had Stinky, Rice and Cheney regurgitating their lies to justify slaughter...Colin (Water Boy) Powell writing an op-ed...Rummy sending a "what I did on my vacation" form letter to newspapers across the US...CNN/Gallup coming out with a "breaking news" poll catapulting Stinky back up in the polls... Incidentally, Lou Dobbs interviewed that skinny Gallup guy, who admitted he had polled the "upper echelon" to get that figure -- people making $100,000 or more... This is the most blatantly orchestrated PR assault I've ever seen -- and I spent nearly 30 years in Army public affairs. http://www.axisoflogic.com/artman/publish/article_2270.shtml Here's my "Bush/Jesus" pic. Copped it from Bartcop a couple of months ago. Sheila Samples Subj: St. George slaying the liberal media I mean, please....how planned was this? Subj: This is not my America How can it be that Republicans were so willing to spend millions of taxpayers' money in investigations during the Clinton years? Said investigations were so frivolous and could only come from dirty, sick and moronic minds.....but now, the security of our country is in jeopardy due to a leak from high places and no mention of a serious investigation, can someone explain it to me? The Steroid groper admits committing lascivious acts during his rigged campaign and no investigation or prosecution for sexual crimes? Janklow in his reckless driving kills a motorist and is back "serving" his country, when in fact should be serving time for vehicular manslaughter. The use of police and state and federal agencies by the Republicans in Texas in their illegal quest for redistricting the state has never been investigated and they are getting away with their sick wishes. The holier than saint Rush admits that he is an addict, then goes to "rehabilitate" himself, just like Nicole Bush....what kind of justice there is in Florida?....oooops, I forgot another Bush is the governor of the State. They have planted bugs in the office of a Major in PA....but they claim is no political, although elections are just around the corner. Our country is going to be forced to spend hard earned tax dollars in the reconstruction of a foreign country, while our is decaying...something is very wrong with this picture. Ken Lay is enjoying his billions stolen from Enron....but he, his friend called him Kenny Boy...what else he is confident that he will no be prosecuted. CNN no only continues employing a traitor (Novak) but its last poll shows that Bush's popularity increased 5%. Bush claims that it hurts him to see the casualties in Iraq...but has only paid a single visit to our maimed and wounded...strange, he picked 9/11/03 to pay that visit. The fleecing of America by Halliburton, Bechtel, The Carlyle Group, etc. There is a big rally for Peace on October 25 in Washington, D. C., lets all go and show our love for our troops and our disappointment and anger at the administration that took our military to war under lies and false pretenses. If Gray was recalled in California for the state of the economy, the lack of jobs and the taxes, we can do the same in Washington, let's impeach Bush and his cronies. How many more military suicides, maimed kids and body bags are we going to allow before we finally stand and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. We are proud, hardworking, kind, generous....but above all we are a country that loves PEACE. Sadly for those few greedy politicians war is too profitable and peace is not. America, please wake up.....lets take our country back before its totally destroyed by the illegal administration and the media. It is our duty for our children and grandchildren. A loyal BuzzFlash reader Subj: Bush Beats Fundraising Record Hey, Buzz. [LINK] It isn't all bad news, though. There's a little gem tucked in this article: A study by the Center for Public Integrity found such organizations, including labor unions and environmental and abortion rights groups, could double the fund raising of their Republican counterparts in an effort to drive Bush from the White House in 2004. "We are likely to face a strong barrage of soft money from special interest groups that are already out there," Mehlman said. "It's very possible we could get outspent. We need these resources to combat the third-party money." Wow, takes a lot of money to fight the truth, doesn't it, especially when the truth gets bigger and bigger? And do you think he could send some of that money to our soldiers so they can get some body armor and R&R??? Regards, Elaine Subj: This is Ridiculous
The Republican's are blaming Tenet & the CIA for the "bad" pre-war intelligence - but that bad intel came that came from Dick Cheney's OSP.......... They are saying the CIA was negligent regarding 9/11 but the White House didn't do a damn thing about terrorism from Inauguration until 9/11 & of course they will never release the August 6th Presidential briefing - you know - the one that shows Bush knew & still did nothing? But it's all the CIA's fault. Of course that makes perfect sense said the Queen of Hearts - the only problem is we are not in Wonderland!!! Linda Hey, Democratic National Committee, Wake Up! The continuing grab of elections by Republicans should have already caused alarms to go off at DNC headquarters. There would have already been strong political posturing on liberal causes. Organized groups should have already been formed to ensure that the media and voters are in sync with Democratic issues. Mailers, phone calls, and commercials could all be well-produced and disseminated to the masses. Woulda, shoulda, coulda. The fact is the Terminator is the Golden State’s next governor. Unfortunately, it appears the Democratic leadership has hit the snooze button - again. I have come to one clear conclusion: The Democratic Party is simply disorganized. My party is a mess. Being a Californian, and married to a registered Republican, I have been privy to the well-organized machine that is the right-wing. At the beginning of the year, mailers came from Darryl Issa urging the party faithful to sign the ever-present recall petitions. Then, over the past two months we received a continuing series of beautiful, oversized (gosh, they are massive) color brochures outlining Arnold’s vision for California. One early photo-filled mailer even included a voter registration application and a how-to primer on absentee voting. The most recent “Total Recall” foldout monstrosity provided step-by-step voting instructions (how to find Arnold’s name out of the many, how to fill in the bubbles, etc…) and actually even listed the address of our local polling place. The font was so large and the wording so simplistic that I figured Arnold knew his supporters were a bit dim. But, those glossy showpieces were effective. Bright and early on voting day, a neighbor approached our family – with yet another brochure! The gloriously printed handout contained images of Arnold, promises of how Arnold will solve every one of California’s ills – and yet another reminder of the address of our local voting place (he was not taking any chances on Republican confusion). On the corner of the flyer, was printed: “Delivered by a neighbor who cares about California’s future.” You see, Arnold’s team had recruited people in various neighborhoods to be their block captains – so beautifully organized you could cry. Our neighborhood brown-shirt was visibly upset when learning we were voting “no.” She tried to encourage us to “at least vote for Arnold because Davis and Bustamante want to turn California back into Mexico.” Say what? So, what did my Democratic Party offer as a counter to the Arnold mailer onslaught? Well, I received one rather sad-looking brochure from the Bustamante camp. Oh, and when I proudly gave my name to volunteer for the Bustamante campaign, some intern called me at dinnertime to let me know there would be “no groups formed” in my county. Hey, couldn’t I at least get a sign for my yard? “No.” By the way, I never saw even one “No on recall” placard. Ever. Yes, the media did pander to Arnold. The local Los Angeles stations followed him around like puppy dogs lapping up his every utterance. And, yes, the Terminator had more money to spend on elaborate campaign materials. However, there is no excuse for the lack of well-produced ads and organizational follow-through. In his commercials, Arnold looked straight into the camera and told voters a bunch of words that meant nothing. But, at least he talked directly to voters. The Davis ads never showed Davis. The Bustamante ads made the Lieutenant Governor look like a Stepford candidate hampered by an overdose of anti-depressants. I will always wonder why the Democrats did not make use of their mailing list, and the advertisements, to make a clear argument to the members of their own party! It’s no wonder that Arnold received 25% of votes from crossover Democrats. So, DNC, you need to wake-up. Get that sleep out of your eyes. See what happened here in California. Get it together. Organize. Otherwise, if what I witnessed in the Golden State is any indication, we could all be looking at several more years of Republican rule, led by Bush & Company. Carol Williamson Subj: AP's Noxiously Reprehensible Dubya Propaganda Photo Depicting Dubya in a highly airbrushed and be-haloed photo. Unmistakably meant to depict holiness. Is reaching into a realm of toxic falsity that defies belief or description. Think of the most heinous in history: Torquemada, Hitler, Atilla the Hun. They pale next to Dubya. With hindsight and history and "advanced" humanity as guides, "leaders" should know better, and do better. That supposed human beings in the most militarily powerful nation in history. Devised a multi-billion dollar 'Shock and Awe.' Then against the outcry of the entire planet, with forethought, on one day alone, rained down their blitzkrieg of depleted uranium, cluster bombs, shrapnel and 1,400 Tomahawk missiles on an undefended urban center of 5 million innocent people, already devastated by a decade of sanctions, and disarmed by UN inspectors. Knowing full well that Iraq was no threat to its neighbors, let alone to the US. Exceeds all known crimes against humanity. Nuremberg declared "preventative war" as the supreme crime. Bush used military might that exceeds the next 15 nations combined against an impoverished country, the size of California, with less than 1/12 the population of the US, with 50% of its citizens under the age 15. He purposefully turned Baghdad into a grisly nightmarish hell. A river of blood, gore and body parts that overwhelmed medical professionals, hospital capacity, and news veterans of war. All for lies. And they knew it was a lie. Further, the Bush administration knows that depleted uranium has a half life of 4.5 billion years, and they know its consequences. They in effect used it against their own people. Our GIs--and their unborn children and grandchildren--will not escape the medical consequences of the toxic environment that Bush knowingly condemned them to. These few well known facts are but a few of the encyclopedic chronicle of evidence against this criminal administration. They are especially known to anyone calling themselves part of the "Associated Press." That AP management allowed the distribution of a photo that seeks to anoint starkest evil with saintliness is the greatest perpetration of "journalistic" prostitution and fraud that I have ever seen--and I am a student of history. So that says a lot. For the rest of my life "Associated Press" will be synonymous with cowardly dirt. Suzanne Subj: Bush on Polling From the Archives June 17, 2002 Back when president Bush was still candidate Bush, harping on the need to restore honor and integrity to the Oval Office, one of his most reliable applause lines was his pledge to govern "not by polls and focus groups, but by principle" ...So it was no small embarrassment when the April issue of The Washington Monthly revealed that, contrary to his public assurances, Bush was spending an awful lot of money on polling. http://www.prospect.org/print/V13/11/devil2.html October 14, 2003 On the eve of his California stay, Bush telegraphed confidence about his political future. Asked about his declining poll ratings, the result of concerns about Iraq and the economy, he shot back. "There was a poll that showed me going up yesterday, not to be on the defensive," he said in an interview with Australia's Channel 9 television. "Actually I'm in pretty good shape politically, I really am. I didn't mean to sound defensive. But I am. Politicians, by the way, who pay attention to the polls are doomed, trying to chase opinion when what you need to do is lead, set the tone." Even a moments contemplation of that makes one reel with the incomprehensible inhumanity, the hell and the horrors, and the taint on America that will not be cleansed in 100 years. It is tremendously heartbreaking on so many levels. Suzanne, BuzzFlash, Broder makes a good point -- as long as Rs control congress, the tax cuts are permanent, regardless of whether we get a D as president.
