Subj: Is it just me?

Or does EVERY story in the mainstream media point out that Wesley Clark's bid for the presidency is a long shot? Wishful thinking on the part of administration's front men? BushCo International must be TERRIFIED at the thought of their boy going head to head with a West Point-Rhodes Scholar-Four Star General who can actually string together a sentence or two.

I shudder to think what they'll do to divert the public from Clark's announcement. If we're lucky, it'll just be the old "Saddam Hussein may be in (fill in the blank). Or maybe "Evidence of WMDs found in (fill in the blank). We can judge how freaked out they are by how horrible tomorrow's lead story is on Fox.

Me, I'm buying fresh batteries, bottled water and three day's food supply. Sadly, I put nothing past them.

Fasten your seatbelts, Buzzers - it's gonna get ugly.

Subj: Cheney

Hey Buzz.

I watched Tim (no hard follow up questions to the VP) Russert interview Cheney last Sunday on Meet the Press.

Cheney said: "I have no financial interest in Halliburton and haven't had now for three years." He said this while being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars from Halliburton since he took office. Cheney's alibi is that the compensation was deferred, money he already earned.

Now tell me, how is this any different from: 'I did not have sexual relations with that woman," which caused a media frenzy attack on Clinton? Why am I not seeing a deluge of TV footage of Cheney spouting this nonsense?

"Liberal media" my ass!

Subj: US media not balanced on Hutton Inquiry reporting

BuzzFlash,

Is it just me? It seems like there's a lot of news coming out of the Hutton Inquiry, but the US media seems to either ignore it, or only place a headline about it when the news bit seems to vindicate Blair or attack the BBC or its reporter on the Kelly story. In contrast, I keep up of the story mainly through the Guardian, and I see days where number 10 gets the upper hand, and other days (most it seems) when the BBC's take is reinforced.

RE: White House denies tying Iraq to September 11 attacks - AFP

"Evidence from intelligence sources, secret communications and statements by people now in custody reveal that Saddam Hussein aids and protects terrorists, including members of Al Qaida."

- George W. Bush, State of the Union (2003) [LINK]

Subj: General Clark

Buzz,

Today was such a good day, the first in a long time. For the first time I have hope that the despicable little worm in the white house can be beaten by a candidate supremely qualified to lead this country in times like this. He may not have experience, but he has brains, drive, and charisma that could heal our standing in the world and, as an investment banker, he can certainly understand that 2 + 2 makes 4, a fact lost on those boobs in the administration. So, thank you General Clark for the breath of fresh air you bring to this most important of campaigns. And please understand that the more you are maligned and attacked which you will be, it merely means that the republicans are scared to death of you. Like it was for Bill Clinton, the barbs and lies that they throw at you should be viewed as a sign of your extreme viability as a candidate for a President who should behave like a President and who has "the vision thing".

Now, I can vote with hope and enthusiasm.

Subj: Dick Cheney on Meet The Press

With all the discussion of Cheney’s lies concerning Iraq, I am surprised there has been little coverage of his comments concerning rescinding the tax cut for the top one percent. If memory serves, he said something to the effect that such an action would hurt “small business.”My question is: how many small businesses are represented in the top one percent of tax payers? Bill Gates? Warren Buffett? Dick Cheney? Grasso? Welch? I guess it depends on how you define “small.”Was this the only argument he could come up with. Where is the outrage? To me, small by definition means small.

Jim Spencer

BuzzFlash,

Can you believe this??? Gee, George, how did Americans get the idea that there was a connection between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda? Because you told them there was!!! Cheney's just reiterating the White House party line. Sweet lord! Do the Bushies really think people wont notice that the president is suddenly saying the opposite of what he's tried to hammer home for months on end??? That's the thing about liars. They usually get caught by getting tangled up in what they say.

Subj: General Clark

Dear BuzzFlash,

I have spent a lot of time in my car today.....listening to the likes of Rush..(it is abuse from me to me) I do it every once in a while...He was going nutty over Wesley Clark throwing his hat into the ring!

You can always tell when someone gets in that scares hell out of the right wing... they rant a lot and call them names.

For instance....he always said of Kerry..."The French looking Kerry"..some are sort of sissies...you get the picture...it is what we have come to expect of Rush Limp bag!!!

Then there was, on our local station..Al Franken who is in St. Louis for a book signing and speech out in Clayton...a upscale suburb of St.Louis...Well, they had him on and had Ann Coulter calling in...I laughed likely a little more than I should... has anyone ever heard anyone get the better of Al Franken??? Never!!!! It is a joy to see him cream her!!! And I have seen it happen before!

The last time he was on Letterman...he told the funniest story about Rich Lowery. a rightwinger who is editor of a rightwing magazine...sorry, I cannot remember the name...but Rich has said something about someone on c-span that Franken did not like...so he called him up and challenged him to a fight. Just that simple..."Hey Rich, wanna fight??"" Rich was sort of taken off guard..and asked him if he was serious and Franken said he was for sure! He explained why...something was said about a friend of his, Rich called him a sissy (rightwingnuts favorite thing to call those of us they do not like). Rich said he would think about IT and call him back the next day...which he did..and asked Al where they would do this fight...and Franken said they could fight in his "parking garage" where he parked his car...

There is no upshot to this story...but, Al Franken can relate a story so funny...it just send reps. into a frenzy..especially the ones like Limbaugh and Lowery...today Limbaugh was in a Frenzy...He knew exactly who it was going to hurt...and why... He knew it was because Hillary was going to run with him and it would be a launching pad for her...what a bunch of nuts!

It likely is not a thing that one should do while driving...especially if you laugh so hard it makes you cry....Rush the Flush...makes me laugh so hard at times...the other times...when he is just obviously lying..I tune him out!

But, the end of this is that the entry of Wesley Clark into the other qualified dems running...is just ruining his day...so we must keep it up until rush bursts a blood vessel or whatever!!!!!!!!!!!!

At least it gave me a laugh for the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have to take humor where we can find it...nothing is funny anymore!

Shirley.........St. Louis

PS: I heard Prez Bush...not 10 minutes ago..on one of his pseudo press conferences, you know the ones where he has a list and then call on only those?? they asked him about the connection between 911 and Iraq...and he said, his very words were "There is no connection between 911 and Iraq"! poo fooing every lie that Dick Cheney said on MTP...he set a record for consecutive lies on Sunday!...No one has said more...or lied more...and the President himself just refuted one on nationwide TV! What a country...what a way to run it...Help Wesley...Howard...anyone!

Subj: Backpeddling

Dear BuzzFlash,

King Idiot has come clean with the American public and said that Saddam was not associated with the 9/11 terror attacks on the World Trade Buildings.

However, Bush continually invoked the memory of 9/11 to justify the invasion of Iraq and regardless of the fact that Iraq did not support al-Qaida. Bush and the republicans also insinuated that those who didn't support the Bush war were unpatriotic and didn't support our troops.

The republicans need to wake up and realize that supporting our troops and George Bush are not one and the same.

~ Cathy

Subj: Dubya's admission that there's no Saddam/9-11 link

Is it just me, or did Bush seem unusually grumpy (maybe even a little PO’ed?) when having to admit, "We've had no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with September the 11th."?

Dear God, I hope this marks the beginning of the end.

A BuzzFlash Reader

Buzz,

Bush preyed on American's hearts and minds, persuading us Iraq was a threat which harbored terrorists and WMD. He has encircled our sons and daughters in a land surrounded by countries with terrorist sympathizers and more pouring in everyday.

What a slap in the face to all Americans and especially the families, friends, and loved ones of the victims of 9/11.

Subj: Why is the Bush Admin Distancing themselves from Cheney?

BuzzFlash,

Bush, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, and Condi have all said Saddam had no ties to 9/11 after Cheney reported that they did on "Meet the Press". This coming on the news that Cheney's energy task force documents will be released unless Scalia and the Supreme Court take the case. Maybe Bush and company know something. Maybe they know that the Supreme Court will not be able to hear the case. Maybe those Energy Task Force documents contain damaging materials. Maybe they are damaging to the Bush Admin. Maybe Dick Cheney is going to be the scapegoat. Rove sends Dick out to reconfirm the Bush admin stance. Unbeknownst to Dick, he repeats the statements that Bush, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, and Condi have made previously. Then Rove sends out the rest of the sheep to contradict Cheney's statement. What's in those Documents?

Subj: Join www.americansforclark.com

Hello BuzzFlash and to all BuzzFlash Readers,

Hooray !!! Thank you Wesley Clark !!

I encourage anyone who wants to support the candidacy of Wesley Clark to go to the 'americansforclark' website (the link is attached) and join the campaign. The site asks for volunteers to fill out the form and offer the skills they have. I thought you may get a kick out of what meager 'skills' I could possibly offer:

http://www.americansforclark.com/join.php

Skills . . . well . . . I am not sure if anyone would consider what follows 'skills', but here is what I can offer . . .

1. Organization

2. Communication - primarily written.

3. A passionate desire to legally remove GeeDubya from the office he currently occupies.

4. A fervent opposition to ANYONE who remotely implies or suggests that a dissenting opinion from those of Right Wingers gives "Aid and Comfort" to the enemy (this REALLY frosts my behind).

5. My son is currently in Iraq. I would trust my son's life under the command of General Clark. By contrast, I would not trust the current AWOL Deserter Chickenhawk-in-Chief and his enablers to clean the latrines of the recruits currently in basic training at Fort Benning, GA, let alone determine the course of our great nation. Our servicewomen and servicemen have given so much of themselves, yet do not have a voice when it is becoming readily apparent that they have been placed in harm's way on false pretenses. They deserve competent leadership. They should not be abused by ideologues who have no intention other than to further a hopeless, poorly-conceived, ill-advised agenda.

I won't go door-to-door, but otherwise I will do all I can to promote the candidacy of General Wesley Clark for President of the United States. I have been eagerly anticipating his announcement for many, many months.

What a terrific day for our country. The restoration of honor, integrity and dignity to the White House is, after nearly three long years, now within our sights.

Thank you for your consideration.

Regards,

John Powell

Subj: Gee, Dubya, Two September Surprises!

What a surprise headline grabber on Sept 17 just as Clark announces his entry into the Presidential race: Bush comes out to with "Saddam had no connection with 911." Well then why did Dubya's every sentence in relation to 911 deliberately link to Saddam so that 70% of people believed the lie fomented by Bush War & Oil Inc. that Saddam did 911?

And why choose to publicly reveal the truth about Saddam and 911, that Bush War & Oil Inc. knew very well to be false from 9/11/01; on 9/17/03?

To grab news headlines away from Clark. Since the Halliburton-Bechtel-Carlyle administration knew that Clark would be hammering on that lie soon. What cheap war profiteering cowards they are, and continue to be at every turn.

Stealing the US Treasury for Uncle Dick. Killing and maiming tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis and GIs. Then stealing the day from General Clark--a real hero, superbrain and gentleman. Nothing is too low and cowardly for the despicable evil junta, is it?

Subj: There must be more to this than fiction

Dear Buzz,

You've got to have a look at this.

I think I am starting to get a glimpse of a different sort of underlying theory; less about politics and parties, more about Big Crime structures or maybe just one big crime syndicate type organization that has been in place possibly for generations.

Reading John Buchan's adventure story, "The Three Hostages," which was written in 1924, I came across this passage which I thought you might want to post.

"The way Macgillivray had worked out the connection between these gentry filled me with awe. Then he showed me specimens of their work. It was sheer unmitigated crime, a sort of selling a bear on a huge scale in a sinking world. The aim of the gang was money, and already they had made scandalous profits. Partly their business was mere conscienceless profiteering well inside the bounds of the law, such as gambling in falling exchanges and using every kind of brazen and subtle trick to make their gamble a certainty. Partly it was common fraud of the largest size. But there were darker sides-- murder when the victim ran athwart their schemes, strikes engineered when a wrecked industry somewhere or other in the world showed symptoms of reviving, shoddy little outbursts in shoddy little countries which increased the tangle. These fellows were wreckers on the grand scale, merchants of pessimism, giving society another kick downhill whenever it had a chance of finding its balance, and then pocketing their profits. Their motive, as I have said, was gain but that was not the motive of the people they worked through. Their cleverness lay in the fact that they used the fanatics, the moral imbeciles as Macgillivray called them, whose key was a wild hatred of something or other, or a reasoned belief in anarchy. Behind the smug exploiters lay the whole dreary wastes of half-baked craziness. Macgillivray gave me examples of how they used these tools, the fellows who had no thought of profit, and were ready to sacrifice everything, including their lives, for a mad ideal. It was a masterpiece of cold-blooded, devilish ingenuity. Hideous, and yet comic too; for the spectacle of these feverish cranks toiling to create a new heaven and a new earth and thinking themselves the leaders of mankind, when they were dancing like puppets at the will of a few scoundrels engaged in the most ancient of pursuits, was an irony to make the gods laugh. I asked who was their leader. Macgillivray said he wasn't certain. No one of the gang seemed to have more authority than the others, and their activities were beautifully specialised. But he agreed that there was probably one master mind, and said grimly that he would know more about that when they were rounded up. "The dock will settle that question." "How much do they suspect?" I asked. "Not much. A little, or they would not have taken hostages. But not much, for we have been very careful to make no sign. Only, since we became cognisant of the affair, we have managed very quietly to put a spoke in the wheels of some of their worst enterprises, though I am positive they have no suspicion of it. Also we have put the brake on their propaganda side. They are masters of propaganda, you know. Dick, have you ever considered what a diabolical weapon that can be--using all the channels of modern publicity to poison and warp men's minds? It is the most dangerous thing on earth. You can use it cleanly--as I think on the whole we did in the War--but you can also use it to establish the most damnable lies. Happily in the long run it defeats itself, but only after it has sown the world with mischief." (from chapter 4)

Perhaps our modern HardRight nightmare is not so modern. Buchan would have known. He had hugely distinguished and varied career at almost every level of public life, dying in office as Governor General of Canada.

John Buchan, Scottish diplomat, barrister, journalist, historian, poet, and novelist, John Buchan was born in Perth, Scotland, as the eldest son of Rev. John Buchan and Helen (née Masterton) Buchan. He studied at the University of Glasgow and Brasenose College, Oxford, where he had an outstanding career, winning the Stanhope Essay Prize in 1897 and the Newdigate Prize in the following year. In 1901 he became a barrister of the Middle Temple and a private secretary to the High Commissioner for South Africa, Lord Milner (1901-03). PRESTER JOHN (1910) was based on his South African experiences.

After returning to London Buchan specialized in tax law and continued to write. In 1906 Buchan started to work for the publisher Thomas Nelson and Sons. He revitalized publication of pocket editions of great literature and virtually edited The Spectator. In 1907 he married Susan Charlotte Grosvenor; they had three sons and one daughter. During World War I Buchan was a war correspondent before joining the army. While ill in bed in 1914 during the first months of the war, he wrote The Thirty-Nine Steps. He served on the Headquarters Staff of the British Army in France as temporary Lieutenant Colonel (1916-17). When Lloyd George was appointed Prime Minister, Buchan was made Director of Information (1917-18) and then for a short time Director of Intelligence, a brief interlude in Buchan's career of which he did not much talk. After the war Buchan became a director of the news agency Reuters.

Subj: Rumsfeld "feels the pain" of Over 300 Dead Servicemen...

AP Wire Wednesday, September 17, 2003:

"With US forces facing mounting casualties in Iraq, US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said it was 'unhelpful' if the world believes the United States will send its troops home whenever it gets its 'nose bloodied.'"

No doubt the moms, dads, spouses and children of the U.S. killed and wounded in Iraq will take comfort in knowing that, to Defense Secretary Rumsfeld, their respective loved ones are, in fact, merely suffering from "bloody noses." What a guy.

Dear BuzzFlash,

Re: BuzzFlash presents The Angry Liberal: OIC Makes It Official: Whitewater is Now a Republican Scandal

Doesn't someone owe Susan McDougal an apology for serving time?

[BuzzFlash Note: We think a lot of apologies are due, most importantly a big, sincere mea culpa from the Republican leadership to the American people explaining that they lost their mind for quite some time, regret the cost and anguish they caused everyone involved, and promise never to do it again. Subj: Will Cheney spend more time with his family?

Buzz,

So what's up with these lying sneaks? Why all of a sudden are they all saying there is no connection between the 9/11 attacks and Saddam? And right after Cheney's declaration on Meet The Press that there was a solid connection?

Is this a set-up for ousting Cheney from the 2004 ticket? So he can spend more time with his family? Stay tooned.

Subj: STOP THE SEGREGATED RECALL VOTE

I am a voter in San Diego and I am writing about the Recall. I hope one of your editors can go after the Republicans and challenge them about the voting process. They are slamming the recent 9th court ruling when in fact they are only stating they don't want a SEGREGATED vote. I mean if 44% of the vote is using error-prone punch cards and the other 56% are using more reliable devices. Since these punch cards are in areas such as San Diego, Los Angeles and San Jose (the three largest cities in California) , they have a higher percentage of minorities than the rest of the state, therefore they may be unknowingly disenfranchised. However the Republicans are saying it is O.K. for this "separate but equal" vote. Whether by design or not they must play by the same rules and the Republicans are spinning that the it is the ACLU is saying that blacks and Hispanics are claiming they are too dumb to punch out cards. The ACLU is just looking out for the minorities who are voting on inferior machines and the error will be higher no matter what color the voter. I would hope the Dems would get the word out to the minority voters via Al Gore who was the victim of 2000 vote that the Republicans want a SEGRAGATED vote.

Subj: Genetic Basis to Fairness, Study Hints

Hmm. First we were told that recent research pointed to Conservatives being more fearful and mean than Liberals, and that the difference may be genetic.

That explained a lot.

Now, in "Genetic Basis to Fairness, Study Hints" (at LINK) we're told that "fairness" may be in the genes.

That explains even more. Now I can understand how FOX News can call itself "Fair and Balanced" with a straight face. They are just genetically incapable of understanding what "fair" means!

I just hope those researchers keep up these studies. Someday, they might find the "Coulter" gene. Imagine what a better place this would be if there were a vaccine for those poor souls who walk by Moore, Franken and Conason books to choose a book by Coulter that could be considered to contain the largest gathering of inaccuracies in a single group of paper, if one didn't include the text of a Bush speech.

Click here: United States Senator Mark Dayton Has a Novel Idea: Members of Congress Should Receive a Drug Prescription Plan No Better Than Our Nation's Seniors Under Medicare

BuzzFlash,

This is an outstanding interview and for the first time the issues at the core of the discount card and Medicare overhaul are clarified for the average reader citizen.

The penchant for cruelness and deprivation towards seniors by the GOP majority reflects the philosophy of Social Darwinism so embraced by the Nazis and Fascists..... Senator Dayton is right on the money: let Congress walk in the shoes of the average senior citizen and experience the same "discounts" and "quality of care" that our seniors are now forced to accept... it's another way of killing them off with quietly in silent suffering.

Check out the NYC firefighters union website. They are facing a staffing reduction. Although couched in bland terms, this is a dangerous move for NYC citizens, and more so to the firefighters. (I am a retired firefighter.) This must be the way we treat our "heroes".

This is one of the best columns on the current situation in our country I've read. I only hope more people wake up to the faux government Bush & Co have bought to bear. I have no doubt these "dispassionate conservatives" will sell our country out to keep the reins of power in their hands. In the meantime they are gutting a social network for the needy to promote warfare and more destruction of the environment.

Thank you for keeping the light burning.
