Subj: Patriot Acts I & II

Dear BuzzFlash,

Has anybody noticed how similar in spirit and tone the Patriot Acts are to the Alien and Sedition Acts, passed in 1798 during John Adams' term as president. Coincidence - I think not!

Guy Galbois

Subj: American Patriots

Hi BuzzFlash,

American Protesters Patriots, that's us, are called, fringe folks, now focus groups. That's coming from a person who thinks we should call him President. That's what he means by *awe and shock.*

An old BuzzFlash Reader

Subj: Turkey

Hi Buzz:

Hmmm....Turkey now wants thirty-billion dollars in assistance in order to secure access to their bases for the possible US led invasion of Iraq. Turkey is a border State to Iraq thus their importance. From everything we are led to believe, Saddam's neighbors live in dire fear of him. Wouldn't you think Turkey would be so grateful to us for getting rid of Saddam, they would pay us rather than the other way around?

Subj: Protests won't sway us, says Bush - FEB 20, 2003

Dear Buzz,

'Democracy is a beautiful thing,' Mr Bush said, adding that 'people are allowed to express their opinion'.

http://straitstimes.asia1.com.sg/world/story/0,4386,172645,00.html

I've got news for you, Mr. Bush: people in a democracy expect their leaders to do more than allow them their opinions. The REAL beauty of democracy is that, IF you continually disregard "your people's" wishes, they will vote you out! Get it?

Pamela of the Poconos

Subj: Social Studies -- American History

"DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) - School officials ordered a 16-year-old student to either take off a T-shirt emblazoned with the words "International Terrorist" and a picture of President Bush or go home," LINK

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

One statement is obscene, the other the law of the land.

Can you tell which is which?

Subj: Gray Davis Recall

Sirs:

If the right wing is successful in its attempt to force a recall in California I would hope Davis would run his campaign against George Bush. I'd love to see photos of Bush and Ken Lay as Gray Davis explains that California was overcharged billions of dollars by Bush's pal Kenny Boy -- who remains completely free and unindicted. A successful California campaign against Bush would show Democrats one path to take next year.

Also, if we're going to start recall campaigns, let me be the first to suggest mounting such a campaign in New York, where Pataki has moved far to the right, state finances are in disarray, and he has become little more than a Bush boot-licker. His popularity is under 40% and an energized campaign would certainly destroyed any hopes he might have of becoming Vice-President.

Sincerely,

David Fisher

Subj: Amazing

Dear BuzzFlash,

Bush has alienated almost all of our allies with his (in your face) crudeness.

Junior's cowboy administration has verbally barbed France and Germany for not going along with a pre-emptive war on Iraq. All of the TV pundits are calling France and Germany everything but Great Satans. Hold it! Isn't it France and Germany who have found sought-after terrorists who were either involved in or associated with 9/11? Didn't they help the US with intelligence? And you know something? They helped regardless of Bush refusing to go along with treaties important to Europe. Now Junior, how many legitimate Al Qaeda operatives have you found on your own? And what about the Kingfish, bin Laden you were going to get Dead or Alive? Yeah Junior... surely you remember him?

~ Cathy

Subj: Matthew's Hardball

Dear BuzzFlash,

Tonight I listened to Chris Matthews and his Hardball program featuring Former Senator Bob Dole. It appeared that he has set his program up with a lot of Rightwing students. The clapping was almost deafening.

When he asked for those who was in favor of a war with Iraq, there was quite a number stood up and yelled, but, when he asked for those who were against the war to stand, Seventy to 80% of the standees let him know they did not want a war.

A BuzzFlash Reader

Subj: Stop This Madness!

Buzz,

Why doesn't someone in authority just stop this madness? If everyone with a brain agrees that attacking Iraq will lead to WWIII, terrorist attacks on America and the deaths of thousands of innocents in Iraq, why doesn't someone stop Bush? I just don't understand this.

T Quigly

Dear BuzzFlash,

http://www.nypress.com/16/8/news&columns/signorile.cfm

"Some of the more bilious right-wing pundits—and shamefully, the Washington Post editorial page editors—have taken to describing those who oppose the invasion as "siding with Saddam." (As Joe Conason pointed out, they have, however, curiously excluded the Pope in their screeds.) But if such sleazy rhetoric is allowable, then maybe we should say that those like our President, who seem to have ignored Osama’s decrees, or like Powell, who are hawking a Saddam/Al Qaeda connection based on overblown evidence, are standing with Osama. Yeah, that might be as scurrilous as the right’s "standing with Saddam" smear."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think that's exactly right. We should start referring Bush, Rumsfeld, Cheney, Powell, etc. "Osama Appeasers." That's pretty much what they are. Makes a pretty good sign for an anti-war rally.

Barbara/NYC

[BuzzFlash Note: Perhaps something even simpler, like "Osama Lovers," because most of Bush's supporters won't understand the word "appease."]

Subj: Chickens at War (from Drudge)

http://www.time.com/time/europe/me/daily/0,13716,423690,00.html

"Worried that the pollution from blown oil installations will clog up complicated detection equipment and make it difficult to pick up deadly chemicals and nerve agents, U.S. marines and soldiers will drive into battle across the dusty plains of Iraq with caged chickens atop their Hum-Vees. "

Ari Fleischer denied reports that Cheney, Wolfowitz and Bush himself have been outfitted for chicken cages.

"They did not go before, they will not go now" he said.

Subj: Kucinich

Dear BuzzFlash,

I was told that Dennis Kucinich was anti-abortion. But here's the response I got from his office.

Mr. Moitoza,

Regarding the abortion issue, here is Congressman Kucinich's statement:

" I support Roe v. Wade and a woman's right to choose and will select Supreme Court justices who will affirm this Constitutional right. My focus as President would be in finding common ground that would provide for all choices, reducing the need for abortion. We can make progress through providing workers with a living wage and providing Americans with universal health care as well as the other services and benefits that encourage life."

Dear Representative Kucinich, There are many many people who would vote for you, but I'm afraid the abortion issue might knock you out of the running with progressives. Any chance of changing your stand on that? If you did, I think you'd stand a real good chance of winning. Rob Moitoza Seattle, WA

Dear Buzz,

In another newsgroup, someone cleverly created this anagram:

Subj: W's Latest Anti-Family Initiative

Dear BuzzFlash,

On December 3, the NOT so family-friendly Bush Administration announced that it intends to rescind the regulations that allow states to provide unemployment insurance (partial wage replacement) to parents who take time off of work to care for a new child. These regulations, known as "Baby UI," were authorized by the Department of Labor under the Clinton Administration. Despite efforts to paint itself as friendly to families, the Bush Administration consistently puts the desires of business above the needs of families. (Business and industry groups have been quite vocal in opposing use of the Unemployment Insurance system to provide paid family leave.) Rescinding these regulations is particularly damaging for women as it jeopardizes women's financial security and limits options in the struggle to balance work and family.

Subj: Political Corruption

"Even when it began in the wake of the White House's oil-heavy "energy policy", the suit brought against Vice-President Cheney over the meetings held to write the policy were a "below the radar" political issue. Now, in this post-9/11 world, it's only more so. That's a shame, because it's actually a pretty important issue, and it's symbolic of the attempts of this White House to circumvent the Constitutional limits on executive power."

Re: What Would Jesus Wear? Not What George is Wearing.

Dear BuzzFlash,

Recent world wide developments, action and reaction about Bush's so called policies, reminds me of Bob Woodward' s Book on the Bush White House. One of the quotes that Woodward says Bush bragged about: "Our strategy is to export chaos." And Condoleeza Rice tried to shut him up.

There hasn't been enough emphasis placed on this truly "honest" statement by GW. By export, he doesn't mean just out of the country; This outfit believes that we are all outsiders which is why he has no qualms about systematically destroying the constitution, the economy and foreign relations.

This strategy of exporting chaos is working only too well. That's why he wears that smirk, why he actually loves the demonstrations. I believe he believes he is winning the game. Chaos, starting with the election of 2000, the 911 lack of air force intercepts of hijacked airplanes, wars on terror and Iraq, keeps everything and everyone in a state of anger or fear.

What else is this evildoing administration up to while everyone is hysterical about this idiot war? I keep wondering as his chaos has infiltrated everything and everyone. This strategy is exactly what they want. It's the perfect power grabber and makes Hitler look like an amateur.

Subj: NYT Friedman says Bushies infighting ...

From his column on Monday:

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/02/19/opinion/19FRIE.html

"They don't like to travel. Seeing senior Bush officials abroad for any length of time has become like rare-bird sightings. It's probably because they spend so much time infighting in Washington over policy, they're each afraid that if they leave town their opponents will change the locks on their office doors."

Jane O. Gutierrez

Subj: I hear that...

Re: What Would Jesus Wear? Not What George is Wearing.

Daddy bush is in the white house all the time and that the news never picks up on it. Is this man that was not re-elected really running the show with Cheney?

German News: US offers Turkey not only money, but part of Iraqi oil!!!??

A BuzzFlash Reader

Hey Buzz, does the following poem bring anything to mind?

Who is in charge of the clattering train?
The axles creak and the couplings strain;
And the pace is hot, and the points are near,
And sleep has deadened the driver's ear;
And the signals flash through the night in vain,
For Death is in charge of the clattering train.

I want off at the next stop.

Subj: Third grade math achievement test

Dear BuzzFlash,

As part of Bush's justification for waging war on Iraq he says that he wants to bring democracy to the people of Iraq.

Yeah right! How could he possibly bring democracy to the Iraqi people, when he has been intent on demolishing our democracy right here in the USA? We all know simple math and here is a simple third grade math challenge for Little Lord Georgie to figure out:

Question: Thousands of Lies + Thousands of Deceptions = ?

Answer: Impeachment !!!

Subj: Zell Miller's Support for Bush Tax Plan

I would encourage BuzzFlash readers to email Georgia Senator Zell Miller to express their disgust for his support of the Bush tax plan. You should also thank him for his decision not to run for re-election in 2004.

Subj: My Poem for Peace

Hello BuzzFlash,

I can't begin to tell you how much I depend on your website for my daily dose of truth! Our only hope are the voices that refuse to be silenced. Our progressive voices on the radio (few, but worth 10+ conservative hosts each) and the brave web warriors of truth. You are appreciated.

I recently won a contest sponsored by Peter Werbe in honor of the Bush "Fear of Poetry Day" and wanted to share my poem with you. This is a link to Peter's site, where he has posted the poem.

Fox News Preps Talk Radio With Alan Colmes

Katy Bachman

FEBRUARY 19, 2003 -

Alan Colmes, the left-leaning co-host of Hannity and Colmes on the Fox News Channel, returns to radio next Monday as host of a new national Talk show syndicated by Fox News Channel.

FOX Live with Alan Colmes has cleared 10 stations, eight of which are in the top 50 markets including New York, Dallas, Orlando, San Diego, Salt Lake City, West Palm Beach, Norfolk, Va., and Albuquerque. The show will air weekdays from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., immediately following Colmes' FNC cable TV show.

The show is the first syndicated radio show for FNC, which will handle both affiliations and national sales. Colmes' Fox News partner Sean Hannity and colleague Bill O'Reilly have national radio shows, but syndication is handled by ABC Radio Networks and Westwood One, respectively.

Broadcast from the Fox News radio studio in New York, Colmes' news-driven show will take advantage of the news resources of FNC, featuring updates from Fox news reporters such as Catherine Herridge, Bret Baier, Steve Harrigan, Amy Kellogg and Carl Cameron. Colmes will also interview top newsmakers and take listener phone calls.

Colmes is no stranger to radio. He was most recently heard on WEVD-AM in New York before the station was sold to ABC Radio, which flipped the station's format to ESPN Radio in late 2001.

Subj: "Big Brother" At AOL

Dear BuzzFlash,

I disagree with your interpretations of the AOL welcome screen, which features Junior Bush and the caption "Big Brother Standing Guard."

Who among you did NOT get the reference?

There's clearly a mole at AOL, probably among the geeks who make things work. The suits support (as in "prop up") the Junior administration, of course -- but these guys tend not be very well read, or educated. They just make money and deals. They haven't even read the comic book version of _1984_.

Somebody at AOL who makes things work, who KNOWS how things work, is sending a message to other people who understand. We have friends.
