Subj: Questions about impending war...

Dear BuzzFlash,

The problem with anti-war movement is that we tend to be the accused, not the accusers. We get cross examined, instead of doing the grilling ourselves.

Well I have stopped trying to defend myself against those morons who wrap themselves in the flag and question my patriotism and ask stupid questions like, " Where were you when Saddam was gassing his people?"

The following are some questions that I ask of any fool supporting War with Iraq.

Where was the American Government when Saddam was gassing his people?

Wasn't it former President Bush who urged these people to rise up against Saddam and then turned a blind eye to their extermination?

Wasn't it, in fact, Vice President Bush and President Reagan, who sold the chemical and biological weapons to Saddam to use against the Iranians?

Wasn't it our Government who gave the Iranians the weapons they used to attack Iraq, in exchange for the hostages?

Wasn't it our government who gave Saddam the okay to handle his dispute with Kuwait as he saw fit?

Was the whole basis for the Reagan/Bush diplomacy in the Persian Gulf nothing more than double crossing Iran and Iraq?

Haven't the Iraqi people been through enough killing and suffering caused by our disinterest and the sanctions imposed at America's demand?

Are we not responsible for the tragedy of the last 12 years in Iraq?

Will the Iraqi people be that overjoyed to see us after we bomb them further back into the stone age and then steal their oil to cover the cost of our bombs?

Does the President really believe we can be anymore successful at rounding up Saddam than we were at getting Osama and Mullah Omar?

Finally, does the President really think that the war will be over with our marching into Baghdad and raising the American flag and implementing a foreign military government?

(If he does he should ask the Russians how their Afghan occupation went. And what about the Chechnya thing? How’s that going? And what about the Israeli occupation of Gaza and the West Bank, how is Sharon faring?)

Subj: Frivolous lawsuits/medical malpractice

Dear BuzzFlash,

Frivolous lawsuits are rarely tried in court. They are very costly for attorneys to research and argue. Attorneys decline to represent those who claim medical malpractice if the case has no merit. The White House argument regarding "frivolous lawsuits" is specious and baseless. Aren't you sick and tired of how little respect the White House has for the intelligence of the ordinary citizen?

Subj: Crossfire: NOVAK snubs CARLSON on Iraq

Greetings:

Pre-State of the Union address, in what Begala termed a "special steel caged death match version of Crossfire" with all four hosts participating, Robert Novak once again told the truth about Bush and Iraq last night -- while Carlson found himself on the wrong side of an unlikely three-on-one match.

Is Bob shrewdly positioning himself for a likely political blowback? Novak may be a lot of things; foolish isn't one of them.

Best,

JM

The relevant excerpts:

CARLSON: Well, then maybe you could answer this question for me, and I'd be glad to hear a liberal answer to this. How -- if the aim, the object is to disarm Saddam Hussein, how do we do that without going to war?

BEGALA: Containment and...

CARLSON: I said to disarm Saddam Hussein.

BEGALA: Yes. We can contain him. We contained and disarmed the Soviet Union. It doesn't even exit any more.

NOVAK: What's very interesting, in this important speech, is the president is not saying we are going to go to war with Iraq. Not saying that. He -- people who are very close to him say, he has not made up his mind. He is not sure.

Do I think we probably will? Yes. But it's very interesting with the whole country watching, he is not making a prediction. He is not making an ultimatum. And that is very hard to get the whole country behind you, Tucker, for a bloody battle if you haven't decided you're going to have a battle.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

CARLSON: You know as well as I do that there is a speech being worked on right now that the president will deliver if he decides to take the country to war.

CARVILLE: When he does, I'll listen.

NOVAK: The problem with this is that this weapons of mass destruction is just a subterfuge. It is a pretext. That isn't what they're worried about.

They think he's a very bad man, he's an evil man, and we should remove him. Now whether that is the purpose of the United States to remove evil men around the world is an interesting debate. And I don't think it's a debate he can win. And therefore we go into this whole question of weapons of mass destruction.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CARLSON: What the liberal position -- Cob, I'm not sure I even understand your position. The point is, the point is the liberals have said from the beginning, We need U.N. cover and the integrity of the U.N., the respect of the U.N. around the world is paramount.

This is a guy who has said clearly, in no uncertain terms, We don't care.

CARVILLE: I don't know how to explain this to you, son. A country violating a U.N. resolution to most people is not sufficient cause to start a war. They violate it all the time.

When you want to make a point to go to war, you have to explain to the country and the world why you're doing it.

NOVAK: Tucker said he didn't understand my position.

My position is that the United States, as the sole emerging superpower, is not under obligation to clean out every dictator in the world.

CARLSON: Nobody says it is, as you know.

NOVAK: Well, the question is which dictator do you kick out? And if the dictator is not a threat to the American national interests, we shouldn't kick him out. So the president is obliged to make a more convincing case than he has so far.

Subj: The Washington Circus

Dear BuzzFlash,

I listened to the President's speech last night and sat in awe as the audience clapped and cheered at each proclamation of tomorrow's magical cures and programs were announced. The Republicans would clap loudest at the mention of some vague reference to a program their party adheres to. Then the Democrats would join in with the bone thrown their way and mention of some other vague idea that most people don't understand.

Then the talk of war and the group began to actually chant and roar their approval.

It was truly amazing to see the people we have sent to represent us acting like the audience in Emeril's cooking show as he announces he is going to put a little extra garlic in the mix. BAM - applause. BAM - applause. Sort of like little children who don't understand they can actually wait until someone is finished speaking before they can then register their approval - or not.

As you open the papers or read your on-line news services the focus will be on the The President. The President 'this' and The President 'that' and The President 'this and that', but if you missed the side show in the audience it could be you missed the real problem in Washington. We have representatives that simply and only represent their party and the narrow interest as defined within that party, and who have very little interest in, nor courage to think for themselves.

So when we begin, this morning, to blame the President and the Republicans, or the Democrats and the liberals ad nauseum, look a little deeper and see of what you saw last night is the kind of reaction and representation you would like to see from ANYONE in the audience of the circus that came to Washington last night.

Dear BuzzFlash,

Why did Bush say it would take 15 years and a billion Federal dollars to develop Hydrogen Engines, when the technology exists right now, today? Could it be he's just paying lip service to the environment, as usual?

Hi!

I haven't been to your site yet today so, what I am suggesting may all ready be in place but, I'll take a stab anyway. Last week you featured an article from a Brit paper reporting PM Tony Blair had not seen any evidence to prove a link between al Qaeda and Hussein. I'd like to suggest you repost that article, especially in light of our court-appointed President's insistence that such a link exists and the necessity for war.

Regards,

Don

[BuzzFlash Note: We considered adding that story to our recent News Analysis, "Two Bush SOTU Lies Exposed, How Many Left?" but the question Tony Blair responded "No" to was "Is there any link between al-Qa'ida, Iraq and terrorist groups in Britain?" That question and answer is in this article: "Blair astonishes onlookers with a frank answer to Parliament's greybeards".]

Dear BuzzFlash,

I don't understand why everyone continues to ask "doesn't the Bush administration realize that a pre-emptive attack on Iraq will increase the chances of terrorism in this country?" Of course they realize it - they're hoping for it. Terrorist attacks are the only thing that will keep dimwit in office.

Dear BuzzFlash,

It was a disgusting plethora of lies....what did we expect??? He is scaring me to death, and should be scaring all Americans to death!

I watched with revulsion...hoping I could get through it!

I, too, thought it was disgusting and oh, so obvious, when he talked about caps on liability suits.....! Is there a person in the world who does not believe that was a political ploy?..Let's pan in on John Edwards...everyone knows that he defended poor folks with horrible malpractice suits..in poor neighborhoods and made less than Kenny Boy and Jeff Skilling for damn sure!! That might have been the lowest thing that he did in that entire thing...!

And, we all thought it was to be a state of the union speech....It was nothing but political, folks! This man only knows two words, so someone else has to write speeches...and, they of course, are also thinking about their own asses! Of course, they have to worry about his being able to read them!

Dear BuzzFlash:

So, Saddam mistreats his people. What else is new? Mr. Bush and his friends are terribly upset about this and want to liberate the Iraqis. That reminds me of other countries, whose rulers did to their people what Saddam does. Remember Pinochet in Chile? What about Argentina, where the mothers still march? What about Guatemala and Nicaragua? And Cambodia's killing fields? China? Oh, yes, Turkmenistan and Burundi and Sierra Leone and Sudan and North Korea? We were supporting some of those nice people and kept quiet about all the atrocities.

The millionaires in Washington were and still are only interested in making more money and use "atrocities" only when it suits them. So much for "compassionate conservatives"!

Subj: What Next?

Dear BuzzFlash,

Your pResident in chief didn't deal at all with Osama bin Laden or the so-called axis of evil during last night's "state of disunion". Where is Osama?? And what has been done to insure that another 9-11 won't occur tomorrow? Also, where is the proof that Saddam is a threat to us? One of your readers suggested that we send rice to the White House....I did. Others have suggested that we write letters/ send emails, and make phone calls. Send money to BuzzFlash? I have done all of this. Desperate times require desperate measures. WHAT DO WE DO NOW????? This idiot in chief is going to wipe us off of the planet while fighting for world domination. HELP!!

Subj: Sleeping at the Wheel

Dear BuzzFlash,

I am surprised at you guys.

Regarding The Washington Posts Jan 18, 2003 "Desert Caution" diatribe, I mean.

The "writer" starts his story admitting the fact that Schwartzkopf is less than supportive of Dumbass' war effort, then proceeds into a bunch of nonsense designed to show that the General has "no friends in the army" and that his "stature has been diminished".

A blatant attempt to smear an American hero if I ever saw one. Maybe not "smear", but definitely undermine before he gets too loud, don't you think?

Maybe we are all getting too used to this stuff.

Subj: The Real "State of the Union"

Dear BuzzFlash,

THE TRUE STATE OF THE UNION: the economy has tanked, a trillion dollar surplus has disappeared, over 2 million jobs have been lost, Osama bin Laden is still at large (as well as the anthrax attackers), corporate America has run amuck, the 9-11 tragedy is being used as an excuse to attack Iraq for it's oil (and because Saddam tried to kill Bush's daddy), many of our civil liberties have eroded, racism is alive and well, and because of Bush/Cheney foreign policy we are hated by our friends as well as our enemies. In a nutshell, the state of the union is frightening! And if you dare to criticize this president's policies, you are characterized as either nuts or unpatriotic. God have mercy on us.

Dear BuzzFlash,

I read the column from phillynews.com regarding the New American Century Org. That really disturbed me and I am wondering why this isn't being publicized and forced to the front pages of every site and media. To me, it's the whole reason why we are going into Iraq and nobody seems to catch it.

Second point on the Scathe of the Union, isn't it interesting that Bush stopped birth control cold in poor countries and now stands so proud at "fighting" AIDS. Wouldn't it have been a lot cheaper to buy condoms and pills? Seems like this should be brought out for all to see. These nuts want all these children born so they can die painful deaths and be bombed to bits.

Subj: State of the Union Address

Dear Buzz,

Having a low tolerance for W; I caught only the first 15 or 20 minutes of his big act. Besides the new hairdo, I noticed the soft delivery - like he was taking me into his confidence.... Right.

Even more stunning was our VP - the usually pasty flesh appeared colorful and the corners of the frequently emotionless mouth were turned ever-so-slightly upward. The guy looked almost pleasant. How did they do that?????

Subj: President George Bush: Con Man?

Evening Sirs/Ma'am:

Source: White House transcripts of Bush's State of the Union address. Page 1, Paragraph 4:

"This country has many challenges. We will not deny, we will not ignore, we will NOT PASS ALONG our problems to other Congresses, and other presidents and other generations. (Applause.) We will confront them with focus and clarity and courage." -- GWB

During Bush's first fiscal year, he changed a surplus to billions of dollars in deficits and added it to our National Debt for our future generations to pay off. Other Congresses will have to figure out how to pay it. Other Presidents, Congresses and generations will be saddled with an even larger debt: To wit:

Since September 30, 2002, Bush has been borrowing an average of $1 billion, four hundred and fifty million a day and is adding it to our National Debt. Mr. Mitch Daniels, Budget Director, has promised us deficits as far as the eye can see. Your children are going to hate you when they come of age, start to work, and start paying off YOUR DEBTS! Reference: URL: http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/

He has passed tax-cuts that are to take effect up to 10 years from now. Other Presidents, other Congresses, other generations must contend with honoring those tax-cuts.

It was asked last night: "Why does the mainstream press call attention to lies in political ads but ignore those made in a speech?" Shall I edit the rest of Bush's speech and pass the discrepancies to you? Or, will you prefer to take care of them yourselves?

George Bush lied like a first class con man and our Congress actually applauded. We do, indeed, live in strange times.

Sincerely,

Robert Perkins

Dear BuzzFlash,

I was shocked recently to discover that my husband, who is anti-Bush, did not realize that Bush LOST the 2000 election by half a million votes. However, it really isn't all that surprising when we consider that members of the media have always referred to Bush as the winner and Gore as the loser of that election. I suggest that whenever anyone writes anything about Bush, they do so in the following format:

Bush, who lost the 2000 election by half a million votes, said his tax plan, etc.

Conversely, whenever Gore is written about, we should all be careful to specify:

Gore, who won the 2000 election by half a million votes but lost the presidency when the Supreme Court acted unconstitutionally, ...

I am still astounded by the fact that the Republicans managed to successfully divert an entire nation's attention from the fact that Al Gore won the popular vote. Even if it were true that Bush had legitimately won the election on the basis of the electoral vote (which we know he did not), we should have expected a national debate following the 2000 election about whether or not the Electoral College was still relevant and appropriate for electing an American president in the 21st Century. That debate never took place because the Republicans have used propaganda, distortion, and misdirection to convince most people--even those who despise the man--that Bush actually won. We really, really need to drive home the point that BUSH DID NOT WIN THE 2000 ELECTION.

If we had not been so easily misled in November and December 2000, almost surely the United States would not now be a country of rising unemployment, fiscal breakdown, and a government of the rich for the rich. Even more crucially, we would not be living in a world hurtling toward war and the reign of imperial America.

Subj: Dennis Miller on Jay Leno Tonight

Dear BuzzFlash:

I don't watch TV---for a good reason---but tonight I turned it on to see if our antiwar protest in response to the SOTU got any coverage. Nope, but I left it on and flipped around and landed on Jay Leno. Dennis Miller made me positively ill. Dissing Sean Penn, Al Gore, Dems, liberals, and saying that 70% of the people understood Bush's case for war. Then he went off on the most incredibly arrogant, racist diatribe against Korea, France and Germany. The thing that disgusted me the most was all his big talk about trouncing Saddam....about getting him and letting the Kurds stomp on him...as if we were not about to BOMB the people of Baghdad into oblivion! What's with the pretense of caring about the people Saddam killed when we are about to do worse! And then he started talking about a drone air force, so none of our boys would get killed...and said give his 12 yr old son the controls. He was a "military genius" and could be up Saddam's ass in no time.

Maybe I don't "get out much" on TV. I knew it was bad, but this was beyond despicable. The man even touched on school vouchers and started trashing public schools. Oh, right! Dismantle public education to make sure there are more morons out there to lap up this tripe!

I'm copying this email to mediawhoresonline to see if they won't make Jay Leno whore of the week for this one. Thanks for being there to RANT to...Dennis Miller not only writes rants, he inspires them!

Subj: Is the doctor's strike political?

Dear BuzzFlash,

Dr. Gregory Saracco, the leader of the group of surgeons who are striking in West Virginia over medical malpractice insurance, is a member of the American Conservative Union. He chaired a panel on lawsuit abuse during a recent conference! http://www.conservative.org/pressroom/011603c.asp

Buzz,

I heard our pResident last night tell us at least three times that Saddam gassed thousands of Kurds, his own people, and how evil that was. I kept waiting for him to explain why we the US government provided him $500 million that very year..... And the next year, after he had successfully completed his genocidal campaign, the US government doubled its subsidy to $1 billion. It also provided him with high-quality germ seed for anthrax, as well as helicopters and dual-use material that could be used to manufacture chemical and biological weapons.... but he never did.

Subj: Carlyle/U.D.I. profit report - Spoils of War

It would be an honor if you mentioned this SmartMoney story regarding the recent skyrocket in 4th qtr earnings for the United Defense Industries which is owned by the Carlyle Group.

Spoils of War
By Lawrence Carrel
January 27, 2003

IT SEEMS ONLY fitting on a day filled with talk of war that a company named United Defense Industries (UDI) would report stellar financial figures.

Despite weakness in the broader market sparked by a troubling report on Iraq from the chief United Nations arms inspector, shares of the Arlington, Va.-based military contractor jumped nearly 8% to $24.03 Monday on the strength of UDI's fourth-quarter results. For the period, UDI posted net income of $43.2 million, or 82 cents a share, compared with $6 million, or 14 cents, a year earlier. The bottom line blew away the Thomson First Call consensus estimate of 51 cents a share. UDI's revenue shot up 29% to $521.2 million.

The company best known for making the Bradley Fighting Vehicle attributed the strong showing to a flood of new orders from the Pentagon and U.S. allies, as well as a notable surge in business generated by the July acquisition of United States Marine Repair. UDI said its United States Marine Repair operation, which contracts extensively with the Navy, accounted for the majority of fourth-quarter sales growth.

It's being discussed over at DU with great input by Monica L.

Monica L points out the large trading before and after the Crusader artillery system. The people at Carlyle show no bounds on making money. They waited until the Crusader was canceled, then bought at UDI low share values all the while secretly knowing dubya was going to start the Iraq war rhetoric. This should be front page headlines in a sane world. Thanks in advance for anything you can do on this story.

Subj: Did everyone enjoy the show on Tuesday night?

Dear BuzzFlash,

Bush's "State of the Union Address" on Tuesday was very amusing at best. I knew it was going to be extremely entertaining, so I had my popcorn & refreshments handy along with a box of tissues. I wasn't disappointed--It had all the ingredients of a good Hollywood production-fiction, drama, adventure and of course "fantasy."

After the first ten minutes of listening to bush's plundering ramble, and watching the Republicans going up & down (like a vertical wave); I dipped into the box for my first tissue. I experienced my one of many comical reactionary "knee jerks" and spilled a little soda on my shirt. After soaking it up I continued with the show.

About midway through I realized that my jaw was sore from laughing so much, the last time I laughed that hard was when Bush appointed Henry Kissinger to investigate 9/11!

Three quarters into the act I started to question myself-shouldn't I be taking this seriously? I gazed back at the TV just as Bush attempted to tie saddam with al-Qaida and fell into another hysterical lapse realizing "I could not."

At the end of the program my wife looked a little mad at me, not because of my behavior or reaction during the show, but from the popcorn and soda I had spilled all over the sofa and floor. She commented that I had made less of a mess when watching the super bowl.

I took one last dip into the tissue box wiped the butter from my chin, satisfied that I had experienced an entertaining folly.

Re: A Slight Correction

The hundreds of protestors in Grand Rapids, in Midwestern freezing temperatures, should have been a major story in the mainstream press, but then again, so should have been the theft of election 2000.

Given the coverage on TV (including broadcast networks and cable), I sometimes wonder if there is one honest journalist left in the realm of broadcast media. Can anyone else remember when there were often TWO sides given on television news? Oh, I forgot, that was when the media wasn't owned by huge conglomerates who had the ear of the man who sits in the President's chair, so long as they do what he wants them to do.

The truth is out there, and many people are finding it; but you have to have a computer and be connected to the internet to really get a true picture of what's going on with George Bush. Little wonder, then, that most of the lower income people don't get the word -- they can't afford the computers, and if they could who would teach the use of them? Another of Mr. Bush's ploys, in my opinion.

The man and his handlers have read this country like a book and are playing the people as even President Clinton couldn't. I once read that we get the kind of President we deserve - I can only hope that's not true, because I can't imagine anything the people of this country could have done to deserve George Bush (but, then again, he's not the President either - he only sits in the President's chair.)

Subj: Impeachment

Dear BuzzFlash,

Tuesday night, Mr Bush stood before Congress and us common folk and lied straight to our faces once again.

Repeating the lie he first delivered last September before the UN he said: "Our intelligence sources tell us that he (Saddam) has attempted to purchase high-strength aluminum tubes suitable for nuclear weapons production."

The International Atomic Energy Commission, in refuting Mr Bush the first time stated unequivocally these tubes "can not be used" for the purpose of enriching uranium.

In October 02, Bush said flatly that Iraq is "six months away" from having a nuclear bomb. He cited a 1998 report from the International Atomic Energy Agency. "I don't know what more evidence we need." But the president of the IAEA said no such report exists and the agency had never made such a statement. It said Hussein's nuke program was completely dismantled in '98.

Bush told us: "This is a man who we know has had connections with al Qaeda. This is a man who, in my judgment, would like to use al Qaeda as a forward army." The CIA, FBI and every intelligence agency in the world has been looking for any kind of connection for the past 21 months. They have found none.

A few weeks ago, Bush tried to frighten Americans in another way by claiming that Iraq possesses a fleet of unmanned aircraft that could be used "for missions targeting the United States." This is a total fantasy, a fabrication.

There have been numerous articles in big city newspapers reporting that, as USA Today worded it, the administration has put "pressure...(on) intelligence agencies to deliberately slant estimates," about Iraq. What kind of people demand "cooked information," in the words of the CIA's former chief of counterterrorism, when they are asking young men and women to die for their lies?

Over a decade ago, Dick Cheney began talking about gaining control of Iraqi oil fields. He calls it "the big prize". Larry Lindsey, Bush's top economic advisor recently said "When there is regime change in Iraq, you could add three million to the five million barrels per day of production to the world supply. The successful prosecution of the war would be good for the economy." The Bush administration is leading us into war for one thing and one thing only. Oil.

There are reports from all quarters that enlistment in terrorists organizations is increasing dramatically as Bush rattles the saber and ramps up for invasion. About the proposed war, Amr Mossa, head of the Arab LeagUe said a Bush invasion of Iraq would "open the gates of hell".

The case for impeachment of Bill Clinton was based on one thing. He lied about his sex life. If we do not impeach this president for his lies and his assaults on our constitution and for putting Americans and the entire world at risk, then we ourselves are morally bankrupt. And we will all pay dearly.

One of our founding fathers said "Democracy demands an enraged public." We must do this ourselves. It is clear that we can not expect our Congress of mental midgets to do the right thing unless we kick them in their sorry, corrupt and frightened asses.

Former Attorney General Ramsey Clark has prepared Articles of Impeachment. Here is the link to the website.

Subj: Earl Katz wrong about Florida election law

Hi BuzzFlash,

I just read your interview with Earl Katz about the stolen 2000 election documentary he co-produced and hIs claim that Florida election law required a statewide recount in 2000 is totally false. Florida election law in 2000 did not require a statewide recount. This is myth put out by the pro Bush, corporate, mainstream media. The Gore campaign followed Florida election law to the letter. All statewide candidates had the right to request hand counts in whatever counties they wanted but no statewide count was required. The Gore campaign requested hand counts in the counties where there were the most uncounted votes. The Bush campaign also had the same right to request hand counts as the Gore campaign did and didn't because they knew counting the uncounted votes meant victory for Al Gore. I know this because I used to live in Florida and I worked on numerous campaigns when I lived there.

Subj: "Iraqi Spies"

Dear BuzzFlash,

According to an article in NY Daily News, a classified government document was obtained by the reporter which has intelligence information that Iraqi operatives have entered into this country for the purpose of spying and fomenting anti-war protests. An attempt to discredit the anti-war movement in the eyes of the Bush-supporting lemmings of the country?

I say targeted to that group, because any objective appraiser would surely see through the ploy. It is unfortunate for the country and the world that our future is bound up by a blind, issue-driven group of people. The really sad part of it all is that if the politicians who use them gave them real success in the issues that drive them to the polls, they would rejoin the non-voting public to which most of them belonged before Roe, Ruby Ridge, Waco, and the Civil Rights Act.

Thank you for BuzzFlash! It and C-Span fill my need to know in ways that no other media entities even approach. I am sending a small donation today, something which I have been planning to do for too long.
