Subj: Strong Democrat from Illinois, Dick Durbin Dear BuzzFlash, Although I feel that many Senate Democrats are Republicans in masquerade, Dick Durbin of Illinois is a strong Democrat who consistently votes against Bush policies. He is one of the few who voted against the Iraq offensive, is Pro Choice, and is quoted almost daily in Chicago papers condemning Bush policies for being catastrophic. Durbin of Illinois is a Democrat with the guts and intelligence to lead, yet his name is rarely mentioned. Illinois is a Democratic state. Labor is king here, and Durbin is endorsed by all labor and education unions. He is certainly a Democrat to consider for future higher office. Check his Senate voting record or visit his website durbin.senate.gov/ and send thanks for his stand against Bush. Send the DNC an email commending this fine Democrat. Illinois Democrat, BuzzFlash reader Subj: Graham, the hero candidate? Dear BuzzFlash, In regards to Senator Bob Graham (FL) being the next Democratic nominee, I hope the Democratic base does not have amnesia! To those calling him some kind of " hero" who will have the "Republicans shaking in their boots" let me highlight some reminders: Miami Herald article http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/4249597.htm "However, on Wednesday the Senate moved closer to a final decision on the Iraq resolution as it voted 88-10 against the Graham amendment to broaden President Bush's authority to aggressively pursue other terrorist organizations besides al Qaeda" Senator Bob Graham wanted to give bush more power! Open your eyes! Is that what you want? During selection 2000, I called and begged to Graham's office asking him do his duty by stopping a man from illegally entering the office of the presidency through clear fraud. Bob Graham, the man I voted for twice, did nothing but enable George W Bush to get away with everything. He didn't stand up for the people of Florida let alone the people of the United States, nor did he attend any of the huge protests during the vote count that I went to around the state, including Tallahassee. He left us hanging out to dry. When the Florida House of Representatives' Black Caucus looked to our two Democratic Senators (Bob Graham and Bill Nelson) to stop the certification of the illegally obtained electors for Bush in the stolen election of 2000, Bob Graham did not stand up for democracy, he did not stand up for the Democrats, he didn't stand up for America, he didn't even stand up for plain old justice. He had a choice and he chose to stand with Bush. He consistently stands with Bush and the Republicans on important votes: Measure Number: H.R. 5005 (Homeland Security Act of 2002) Measure Title: A bill to establish the Department of Homeland Security, and for other purposes. Graham gave Bush the go ahead and sided against the few Democrats who stood up for us (eight Democrats and Jeffords (I-VT) ______________________________________ Amendment Number: S.Amdt. 4868 to S.Amdt. 4856 to S.J.Res. 45 (Further Resolution on Iraq ) Statement of Purpose: To provide statutory construction that constitutional authorities remain unaffected and that no additional grant of authority is made to the President not directly related to the existing threat posed by Iraq. Graham voted against us by siding with the Republicans to ensure bush has all the power he can dream up for his fascist regime. -------------------------- Amendment Number: S.Amdt. 4869 to S.J.Res. 45 (Further Resolution on Iraq ) Statement of Purpose: To provide a termination date for the authorization of the use of the Armed Forces of the United States, together with procedures for the extension of such date unless Congress disapproves the extension Graham sided with the Republicans against us (and Democrats like Wellstone) to give bush the green light on unlimited use of our military power. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Amendment Number: S.Amdt. 4865 to S.Amdt. 4856 to S.J.Res. 45 (Further Resolution on Iraq ) Statement of Purpose: To amend the authorization for the use of the Armed Forces to cover an imminent threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction rather than the continuing threat posed by Iraq. Graham sided with the Republicans again, instead of limiting Bush's war power. ____________________________________ Amendment Number: S.Amdt. 2879 to S. 565 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Equal Protection of Voting Rights Act of 2002 ) Statement of Purpose: To secure the Federal voting rights of certain qualified persons who have served their sentences. Graham chose to vote against the side of the Democrats like Wellstone, etc., and disgustingly voted on the side of almost every Republican who voted (except two). ___________________________________ My point is that Americans need to quit acting like a giant dysfunctional family in denial of a huge crisis. The majority of the Democratic leadership have purposely helped the Republicans and fascist bush rise to unchecked power. They flat out refused our wishes and gave the Republicans the ultimate authority. It sickens me to see Graham, a significant enabler of this horrible situation, portrayed as some kind of hero. If we stay in denial and keep voting for these corporate candidates the leadership keeps offering us instead of raising up our own candidates through new parties, it will be all over for "We the People" and right-wing fascists will rule. Don't be afraid of alternatives to the hijacked Democratic Party leadership. It's the "other" parties who are going to rise from the ruins in order to save this nation. Sincerely, A BuzzFlash Reader in Florida Subj: support for anti-suv ads Dear BuzzFlash, I love your site and read it everyday. I hope you will reconsider your support of these ads. They imply that the gas you put in your economy car comes from a different place than the gas I put in my SUV. There are so many variables that influence gas consumption, that to pick on SUV owners alone is ridiculous. I drive my SUV less than 100 miles a week and I drive the speed limit. I fill up once every two weeks, that's 22 gallons of gas every two weeks! Another person, with an small fuel efficient car, might drive it 300 miles a week at 10 to 20 miles per hour over the speed limit and use more gas per week than I do! Also, what about a monetarily challenged person (read: poor) who has to drive an older car and goes without an oil change, he will consume more gas than an SUV driver. Instead of picking on SUV owners, how about putting the heat on our Representatives who refused to pass new standards for the automakers forcing them to improve fuel economy on all vehicles. They have the technology to do so, they just won't until they are forced to. They are the ones to blame, not the SUV owners. Please rethink your views on this issue. Thank You, J Lutz Subj: Pickering Nomination Greetings, BuzzFlash! First, I admire your site, read it every day, and if I had an extra dime it would go to you and Bartcop. Secondly, I just want to point out that I think the Pickering nomination is a smoke-screen. I hope ALL the nominees are carefully checked because I don't want some other neo-nazi/right-wing/racist judge approved because everyone was focused on Pickering or because Bush "gives in" on Pickering to ensure the approval of his other nominees. Pickering is not qualified, but it's certainly possible many of the other nominees aren't either. Let's not lose sight of that in all the hoopla about Pickering. Thanks for listening and keep up the good work. Sarah Mason Subj: Pickering Analysis Dear BuzzFlash, The renomination of Charles Pickering smells like it has something to do with Lott's resignation of his leadership post in the Senate. The administration obviously wanted him out (as scooped in BuzzFlash), probably because they didn't want a protracted fight to shed light on the segregationist views of the Republican party. However, Lott held a lot of power in this situation. Not wanting to step down, he could threaten to fight, or, to be even more damaging to the administration, he could threaten to resign his Senate seat, allowing the Democratic governor of Mississippi to select a Democratic replacement, bring the Senate dangerously back toward Democratic control. To me it seems obvious that the renomination of Pickering is the condition Lott set for his resignation of leadership. Why else would this administration risk embarrassing itself for the sake of Pickering's ideology? It's not their M.O. Social issue ideology means very little to this administration, except for the purpose of making a show and getting support from conservative voters. What really matters to them is gaining more power and money for themselves and their circle of oil and defense industry executives. Their ability to appear mainstream is essential to their plans. Association with Pickering might hurt them, but association with the views of Lott and Thurmond would hurt them more. Lott's replacement by a Democrat and the possible defection of Lincoln Chafee, resulting in the loss of Republican control of the Senate, would hurt them worst of all. They chose the least harmful path. Sincerely, Peter Fuhry Subj: Rumsfeld's insult to us all........... "The disadvantages to the individuals so brought in are notable. If you think back to when we had the draft, people were brought in; they were paid some fraction of what they could make in the civilian manpower market because they were without choices. Big categories were exempted -- people that were in college, people that were teaching, people that were married. It varied from time to time, but there were all kinds of exemptions. And what was left was sucked into the intake, trained for a period of months, and then went out, adding no value, no advantage, really, to the United States armed services over any sustained period of time, because the churning that took place, it took enormous amount of effort in terms of training, and then they were gone." -Donald Rumsfeld, press conference on January 7th, 2003 * * * Dear BuzzFlash: My first husband, Ralph Hartman, was one of those "sucked into the intake" during the Vietnam conflict....he served a tour in The Republic of Viet Nam, and after his service, he left the U.S. Army as a sergeant with an honorable discharge...He was not an exception; he was the rule...and, he did have "choices". What he didn't have was a father to get him into the Texas Air National Guard, nor the inclination to either leave his country or go into hiding...He went to war, as did thousands and thousands of others who were drafted, many of whom are today residents of a particular cemetery in Washington, D.C., not far from where Mr. Rumsfeld goes to work each day. Mr. Rumsfeld's remarks are certainly insulting to all Vietnam veterans, whether he intended them to be or not. They are also insulting to the women and families who, like myself, waited a long year for someone to come home. What is most chilling to me today is how, as we watch thousands of our country's service members again preparing to deploy overseas, hostages to fortune all, George Bush's Secretary of Defense can so disdainfully defile the memory of patriots past. - Diane
M. Funk Subj: White Supremacists and Eco-Terrorists Dear BuzzFlash, Why are organizations that condone vandalism labeled terrorists (E.L.F.) and groups that condone the murder of judges called white supremacists? I condone neither, but I perceive an enormous difference in the two. Doug & Aimee Zukowski Subj: admittedly coarse research Dear BuzzFlash, Google Search "Bush flip-flop" yields about 10,600 hits "Clinton flip-flop" yields about 5,360. Let's see, Clinton was in office for 8 years, Bush is starting his third. Oh, and Clinton flip-flops include the current Senator from New York. Elliott Subj: Fascism and Fog Dear BuzzFlash, There was no grand pealing of the bells on the day Nazi Germany tipped over into a police state. There was no grand pronouncement. No newspaper headlines. There was just the normalcy of everyday life: people went to work, people went to the movies; people got married; people died. Many, many people died out of sight of the press, in concentration camps. But there was nothing unusual or noticeable on the day Germany ceased to be a rational place to live and work and marry and raise a family. But one day -- poof -- it was gone, and there was a police state. Do we not know there are camps run by Americans where people "we don't like" are routinely being tortured? Do we not know Americans are routinely and randomly killing "people we don't like"? Just as in Hitler's concentration camps, which incidentally were not solely for Jewish people. Political dissenters were sent to the camps too. Or killed. Socialists, communists, priests, Lutheran ministers, the mentally retarded, gypsies, homosexuals (yes, Hitler had the same hang-ups about homosexuals the American Religious Right does. Funny.) All of them became "them." When they became "them," it was so much easier to intern them and kill "them" than it would have been if they had not become the nameless, faceless "them" -- the kind "we don't like." Fascism in America? Don't wait for the bells to ring or the government to make grand pronouncements. Just as in Carl Sandburg's "fog," the police state will come in on little cat feet and sit a while, but unlike Sandburg's "fog," it will not move on. Lois Erwin
Sirs: I'm from New Orleans. You may remember that the FBI spent a lot of time investigating a whorehouse that was operating on Canal (our main street) Street while they could have been putting their efforts elsewhere. It's been rumored around here that there is a Republican congressman on the "John" list. I've been patiently waiting for this story to cause a problem for the particular congressman. He was recently reelected and the story never came up. Today there is a story in the local paper that the last two defendants are pleading guilty to misdemeanors in a plea deal. Consequently, the case will not go to trial and the "John" list will remain secret. After Lewinski and Levy I was looking forward to seeing a Republican squirm. But the story is going nowhere just like the Lauri Klausutis story. Apparently Republicans can get away with anything. Is there anything you can do to shine a light on this story? The FBI put a lot of effort into this for a couple of misdemeanor charges when they should have been finding terrorists. Thank you. KFM Subj: soldier slaves, spilling black blood well i'm no rocket scientist but it seems to me the bush people want to make it hard for minorities to get a collage education so that they will not have to bring back the draft and have rich white kids getting embarrassed later in years when it's pointed out their rich daddy's found ways to get them out of fighting for their country. just one example, THEY REFUSE TO GET INVOLVED IN THAT FIGHT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN. EVEN THOUGH BUSH WOULD NEVER IN HIS WILDEST OF IMAGINATION BEEN ACCEPTED TO YALE IF NOT FOR THE FACT THAT HIS DAD ATTENDED YALE. what happens if the minorities decide they do not want to be soldier slaves? km in sc. Subj: Bush's "class warfare" against The Poor, The Elderly, The Children Dear BuzzFlash, Number One: George W. Bush's tax plan will not cut taxes. But, Bush's minions say, his plan WILL cut taxes. Sure, for ONE percent of the population. But, in so doing, Mr. Bush is not providing for revenue to pay the nation's bills. Things cost money. Wars cost money. Mr. Bush is driving America further into debt. In most people's minds, that is irresponsible. When the head of a family gives expensive gifts to one family member, but two years later tells the other family members they will have to cough up some money to help the family pay its bills, we say that family head is a jerk. We say that family head did not plan for the future. We say that family head is irresponsible. But, isn't that exactly what George W. Bush is proposing? Isn't Bush planning to give huge tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans? And will that not cause America to go deeper into Republican-caused debt? And won't we all have to pay INCREASED taxes eventually to pay interest on the debt, pay down the debt, and make up for a shortfall in the annual federal budget? And, isn't Bush harming America's children by under-funding free public education and free public libraries. Isn't Bush secretly planning to turn to elder Americans one day soon and say, "Oops, we love ya, but we're out of money, and there won't be any Social Security payments this month…or next month. After that, we'll see what we can do for ya"? Number Two: Has Mr. Bush ever spent quality time with a family whose breadwinner cannot find work, so Mr. Bush can observe that "trickle down" dollars have NO relevance to members of that family? The dollars that might "trickle down" SOMEDAY will not help that family pay for food now when they are hungry, pay for heat to keep them from freezing when the temperature is 30 deg. outside, and will not help that family when they have illnesses NOW that must be treated NOW. That family -- and many families harmed by Bush's economy, so far -- do not have the luxury of being able to wait until something "trickles down" to them. Bush's economic plans are nothing more than War Against The Poor, The Elderly, The Children and, in fact, any American who has not contributed to his campaign war chests. Bush doesn't have a clue. I hope our senators and House members do. America is in for serious trouble, economically, unless serious people do serious things. And feeding the overfed rich of America is not what I would call "serious"; it's what I would call "class warfare." A Loyal BuzzFlasher Subj: Comments on Mario Cuomo's Speech Dear BuzzFlash, I would like to thank everyone at the 'Buzz' for all the great work you have done to help keep people informed about what is happening in this nation. I read many, many other sources, but most of those now come to me via one of the links I have found in the Buzz... I have grave concerns for the future direction that our Nation seems to be taking, especially since 911.I love this country and am Proud of our country. We have not always 'done the best thing', as we all know. But.... In America, we have always had the freedom to peacefully change the direction we are heading. We must be cautious that the current administration does not declare elections a 'threat to our country'. I pray that our Leaders in the Congress will have enough spine to stand up to the Executive Branch, and put a stop to 'all of this nonsense' as my Grandma used to say. I think what is called for is a congressional investigation, by an INDEPENDENT group of men and women of the congress. I wonder is this might be a possibility??? Let's get down to the bottom of it, once and for all... I believe that Mr. Bush took office under 'suspicious' circumstances. The Supreme Court out stepped its bounds. But we can see that the court is stuffed by those who wish to maintain power... This is a very dangerous situation that we face. And I fear that those who 'retire' will be replaced with someone even worse. I would like to see a recount effort begun, and/or allow another vote to be taken... one that is fair, and will make sure that there is one person, one vote. Other countries hold special elections. Why not US??? I just finished reading the text of Mario Cuomo's speech to the National Press Club. POWERFUL. Cuomo again cuts all the bull, and states it like it is. He should run for President... http://www.excelsiorgroup.org/Speeches/national%20press%20club%20010703.pdf Thanks for everything everyone does to keep the pressure on those who are trying to take this country down a dangerous path. We need a way to make our voices be heard even louder... Thanks!!! Marlene A BUZZFLASH READER Hi all, Well I decided I had to get into the act and send a letter to Bronson. I've been home in pain from a root canal, so this gave me a little relief. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To yet another hack columnist: I won't bother even going into the points of your asinine column because from what I've read, the point has been made and proven. It's highly unbelievable that even the right-wing nuts could still be pushing this one. But I do have to ask, as I have been for the past 10 years, what the hell is it with you people and Clinton? A Clinton "LIE-brary"? Talk abut too much time on your hands. Methinks the man (and the party) protesteth way way way too much. Here's the thing. You and your ilk have tried so hard to ruin his life, legacy, to derail his presidency - but ya couldn't, could ya? He just kept gettin' up again. I would love to see GeeDubya withstand what Clinton did and have approval ratings above 20, let alone above 60. Thomas Jefferson is thought by many to be one of the finest presidents in our nation's history. Many have tried to emulate or compare themselves to to him, including GWB. And wasn't it Jefferson who allegedly fathered the child of a slave? Of course we could never know for sure because Ken Starr wasn't around then. Quite a scandal I must say and yet that's not what people think of when they think of Jefferson. They just think of his great legacy. You see where this is leading? You conservatives don't understand the perspective of history. One hundred years from now (or quite possibly sooner - like maybe 2004) history will record that during the Clinton administration we enjoyed an era of peace and prosperity. History will record that President Clinton was one of the most intelligent presidents in modern history and that the leaders of the world loved and respected him. On the other hand, this period (the Bush regime) will be looked on as one of the darkest periods of our history. Monica will be but a footnote, Bronson. It doesn't matter how many Lie-braries you people open. Years from now it will all be the butt of jokes. One thing you'll never see is liberals building a Bush Lie-brary. We won't need to. Bush's lies will speak for themselves. Really Bronson - a Lie-Brary? Get a Lie-f. I know, read the GAO report. No thanks. It has nothing to do with my point. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * And thanks again Buzz for always putting all this out there. You truly inspire me to keep fighting. Barbara in NYC Subj: Utter Insanity! Dear BuzzFlash, I read this today about the DFW airport being evacuated. Near as I can tell from the article, A MAN WITH A BAG THAT HAD EXPLOSIVE RESIDUE ON IT ESCAPED FROM THE TSA!!! What?!?!? And when you read the article, it's no big deal...he just "got away in the confusion". Hell, they don't even have a description of him! So let's see, it appears that there is a possibility that a REAL terrorist almost did something, got away, and the biggest story is that it inconvenienced passengers? Wasn't it just last week that the lead story on the news, and from the administration was the (now FAKE) story of the 5 'suspects' who had slipped into the country? http://www.click2houston.com/sh/news/texas/stories/news-texas-188074320030109-170133.html This tells me all I need to know about the ineptitude of our leaders. What a sad country this is becoming... Faron Thomason Subj: READ CAREFULLY!!!!!!! Dear BuzzFlash, This article points out some interesting things-- http://www.washtimes.com/national/20030110-48937660.htm Secretary of Defense CHENEY declared this guy DEAD (didn't want to fuck up the victory parties by having a POW in the mix back in 91) Clinton changed his status to MISSING. Now that they want to go to war, they're calling him captured. There was a lot of noise about this when they first declared him dead==the Navy protested, but Cheney did it anyway. That's not in the article, but it is fact. A BuzzFlash Reader Subj: Orwellian Economy Dear BuzzFlash, It"s the Economy Stupid, Part II: The Bush Economic Plan; or, How to Encourage Companies and People NOT to Invest Money in the Economy and Jobs Creation Now students, for our latest Orwellian lesson. Bush offers us a tax exemption for dividends, and tells us this will encourage investment in the economy and create jobs. But what this exemption actually does is reward the companies that DO NOT invest their profits, and punish those that DO. There are a number of things a successful company can do with the profit it makes (in addition to paying CEOs to lay off workers, but that"s another story). It can give the profits to its investors in the form of dividends. Or, it can take the money it makes in profits and invest it in the company--in research and technology, in buying new equipment, in hiring new workers. Our Great Leader is now encouraging stockholders (hey-- I used to be one of those!) to put their money in companies that give them tax-free cash on a regular basis, rather than in companies that will use that same money to grow and to hire workers. Bush is discouraging companies from hiring workers when he tells them that they will attract more investors if they give their profits away rather than investing them. But at the same time, he"s telling us his plan will create jobs. Remember how Bush said his last tax cut would stimulate the economy? How much did you get in your rebate check? And how much did you lose in your 401K? Sounds like a deal to me! Fool me once? A BuzzFlash Reader "George Bush is as close as you can get to having me as your president." -- Rush Limbaugh 01/09/02 If this statement doesn't scare most Americans into voting for any other possible presidential candidate in 2004, I don't know what else could. YT Cai Subj: Keep Pushing Key Economic Themes and Language To All Progressive, Centrist and Democratic Activists: There has been some initial success in our efforts to frame media coverage of Dubya's regressive economic proposal. Over the past few days, several commentators and journalists have specifically criticized the plan as "class warfare," including EJ Dionne (Washington Post), Paul Krugman (NY Times) and Mario Cuomo in well-covered National Press Club speech. At least one article I've seen (in The Detroit News) said:
This is a positive sign; in the past The Republican Right has commandeered the class warfare tag for it's exclusive use against progressives and centrists. Now reporters are at least noticing the charge has made by both sides. But we need to keep spreading the good word's "class warfare" --especially by calling into radio talk shows, e-mailing prominent TV shows like Crossfire, The O'Reilly Factor, and CNN Talkback Live-- to win the battle of making the charge "stick" (Dubya accused his critics of class warfare again yesterday in a major speech). If you need ammunition to counter right-wing denials that the Bush plan goes predominantly to the wealthy, cite the recent study by accounting firm Deloitte and Touche, which confirms that the wealthy get most of the tax cuts. The D&T study confirms the analysis of more progressive groups like Citizens for Tax Justice and was published in Wednesday's NY Times (see article below). Keep Fighting! ~Frank Campagna
Dear fellow readers, When I first heard the news that General Wesley Clark was thinking of seeking the Democratic nomination for President, I thought it was a great idea. It seems that conventional wisdom has it that the Democrats are soft on defense and only a person with Clark's credentials could get the party out of it's rut. However the facts do not support this argument. A Democrat was President during WWII. A Democrat was President during the Cuban Missile crisis. And a Democrat was in charge for Kosovo. All victories for the free world. In addition the Democrats, contrary to popular opinion, did not reduce defense spending during their administrations. The Republicans, on the other hand, were in charge during the great debacles of our century. Think of the secret bombing of Cambodia and the rise of Pol Pot, the Marines killed in Lebanon, Gulf War 1 with it's 28% rate of soldiers disabled, and of course 9-11. In addition, military spending during Republican administrations typically favor high-tech items at the expense of force readiness, think Star Wars. But to get back to the main point, I recently stumbled across an article dealing with the (Orwellian named) National Endowment for Democracy. Basically this group took over many of the unsavory tasks that the CIA was forbidden from, i.e. influencing foreign elections so the results would be more friendly to US corporate interests at the expense of the native populations. They were involved in the Venezuelan coup attempt in April and consistently champion dictatorships over Democracies. Until General Clark's membership in this group is properly investigated, I feel the generals candidacy is a Trojan Horse for the Democratic party. It is to be infiltrated from within much like the FBI's CONINTEL program whereby provocateurs are unleashed upon a group to destroy it's legitimacy. Similar to Defense Department policy of fomenting terrorist attacks so we can respond while fooling the public into supporting whatever venture is desired. So now I take the General's candidacy with a grain of salt and hope that a candidate stands out from the current field. Personally. I favor Rep. Kucinich, but he wouldn't stand a chance. I just had to comment, Richard
Fitzko Subj: Double talk? Dear BuzzFlash, Cheney is confused because he says N. Korea is sending mixed messages. Now he knows how we feel about the double talk from the repub admin. Ed Peltz Subj: Multimillionaire trial lawyer Dear BuzzFlash, In your article concerning Johnny Edwards, as we call him here in the old north state, and the media whores attempts to hobble him before the gate opens I found your descriptions of the W were less than direct hits. A more accurate description of the W would be "Multimillionaire Inside Trader." ---JON--- Subj: Bush as "superb war-time leader" Hi Buzz, Regarding these two recent statements by George W. Bush: To a reporter: "You said we're headed to war in Iraq. I don't know why you say that. I'm the person who gets to decide, not you." "There's only one person who hugs the mothers and the widows, the wives and the kids upon the death of their loved one. Others hug but having committed the troops, I've got an additional responsibility to hug and that's me and I know what it's like." Let"s compare these self-centered, childish statements to a real war-time leader"s words: "Never,
never, never believe any war will be smooth and easy, or that anyone
who embarks on the strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes
he will encounter. The statesman who yields to war fever must realize
that once the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy
but the slave of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events." "We shall
show mercy, but we shall not ask for it." We are being "led" into who knows what by a narcissistic, irresponsible child! Where is the press? Connie Subj: Rummy's Vet vile! Dear BuzzFlash, Why aren't you running what the alleged Sec. of Def said about drafted Viet Vets adding NOTHING of value to the armed services? This is the kind of Trent Lott statement that can buildup and cause a lot of problems for flying monkeys. Not to mention how incredibly offensive, probably racist (as most draftees were probably minority and/or poor), and odious such a statement is to all those who were in the military in the sixties and early seventies, their families, their friends, and the country as well. PS--I say not to mention because for the Repukes this is SOP. Rick Reichman Subj: Bush's Economic Record Dear BuzzFlash, In December 1999, Mr. Bush, then the very heavily favored candidate to win the presidency, called for sharp reductions in tax rates. Six weeks later the Dow Jones industrial average began its decline. Starting in March, when it became clear that McCain had been defeated, the Nasdaq followed suit. Manufacturing employment also began a steep plunge. After the stolen election, Mr. Bush held a meeting with only big business leaders, most of whom had heavily financed his campaign. This reinforced his conviction that taxes for the wealthy must be cut dramatically. At that time critics said he and co-president Cheney were talking the economy down. In March 2001 the economy moved into recession. Despite the fed lowering the federal funds rate to below the level of inflation, and with the economy stimulated by alarming deficits, the Bush economy remains weak and shedding jobs at a rate of over 100,000 per month. Bush's solution? Another economic meeting in Texas with only those that support them and another round of disastrous tax cuts. PS. How is the Texas economy doing these days? A BuzzFlash Reader |
