| GOP Hypocrite of the Week: Alberto Gonzales A BUZZFLASH EDITORIAL
Welcome back to the BuzzFlash.com GOP Hypocrite of the Week. Not too long ago, America was the beacon of freedom, symbolized by our Statue of Liberty. Thanks to the Bush Cartel and its "made men," such as Alberto Gonzales, we are now symbolized around the globe by a man with a hood on his head and electrical wires attached to his genitals. Instead of Emma Lazarus' poetic appeal, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free," our national Executive Branch entreaty is now, "We're going to torture you, seize your natural assets, and cause tens of thousands of deaths in your country -- along with a rigged election that will result in a puppet government -- and call it freedom." That's more than rank hypocrisy. These are war crimes. And the man who sanctioned war crimes, fast-tracked executions of railroaded defendants, and lied about his representation of George W. Bush is set to be our next Attorney General. The Republicans are playing the minority card again, charging that the Democrats are denying a Hispanic the right to climb to the top. We heard the Uriah Heep and polygamy justifier of the GOP, unctuous Orrin Hatch, charging just such a thing, as he did with Clarence Thomas. Once again the party that opposes affirmative action only seems to support it for incompetent minorities or ones who write the legal case for using torture. It's not that far from calling in Stepin Fetchit to do the dirty work of the Republican Party. It would all be a laughable farce, except that you cannot chuckle very much at what is turning out to be an archipelago of Gonzales-condoned torture spreading from Afghanistan to Guantanamo, with stops in Syria, Egypt and Jordan, among other nations known for abusing prisoners unto death. Like Condoleezza Rice, Gonzales won't make it to the top because he did the right thing, he'll rise to the chief law enforcement position in the United States because he loyally sanctioned the body bags and scarred tortured victims of the Bush Administration. And also because he has been loyal to Bush for years, even getting him off of jury duty in 1996 to avoid exposure of Bush's DUI. Then, Gonzales lied about it to the Senate Judiciary Committee. That's called perjury. A nice prerequisite, we guess, for enforcing the law in the age of the Orwellian Bush dismantling of our Constitution. It takes the Republican Party and the Bush Administration to turn the DOJ into the Department of Injustice and National Shame. With the all-but-certain confirmation of Gonzales as our top law enforcement officer, we have joined the governments of Pinochet, Stalin and Franco in disgrace. We usually end the BuzzFlash.com Hypocrite of the Week on a light note, but with Alberto Gonzales as our recipient, we can only hang our head in shame for what our nation has become. We were promised freedom and we have been given tyranny. Until next week, just remember our motto at BuzzFlash.com: So many Republican hypocrites, so little time. Catch up with you soon.
