GOP Hypocrite of the Week: Dick Cheney

A BUZZFLASH EDITORIAL

(Listen to the GOPHOTW HERE)

Welcome back to the BuzzFlash.com GOP Hypocrite of the Week.

Maybe it's just that Dick Cheney, a Wyoming man, never learned the difference between playing liar's poker and being a public servant.

Or maybe he's a natural born liar and he's been lying his whole life.

Or maybe it's just the ultimate high to persist in telling, multiple disproven lies so frequently that you have half the nation and the media believing what they hear from you and not the truth they see with their own eyes.

For instance, take Dick's little snide shot across John Edwards' bow at the Vice-Presidential debate on Tuesday. Dick accused Edwards of being in the Senate so rarely that the battery-operated Vice-President had never met the North Carolina Senator before.

Great line, Dick. Of course, the only problem was ... it was a lie.

You see there were photographs of him and Edwards having met, multiple times -- irrefutable documentation that the Vice-President of the United States was lying. Worse than that, Cheney claimed to preside over the Senate one day every week, but that wasn't true either. There are records taken in the Senate that prove Cheney was, as some say, prevaricating.

And Dick Cheney continues to insist that Saddam Hussein was intimately tied to Al-Qaeda despite contrary evidence from every commission and investigative report. In fact, even his puppet president, George W. Bush, denied the connection at one point, but shortly thereafter Cheney again asserted that Saddam and Al-Qaeda were linked.

See, Cheney is the practitioner of the Big Lie, the lie so large that when you call him on it, YOU appear like a liar because his lies are so outrageously brazen no one would suspect that a respectable person could utter them.

But, Cheney's not the only disreputable liar in the Bush administration. The Big Lie is the hallmark of the whole cartel, with Rumsfeld and Bush leading the pack.

In a way, Cheney is a magician by trade, an illusionist. He makes many people believe that they are seeing something that doesn't exist, such as Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq. It's quite a skill.

During the Vice-Presidential debate, Edwards accused Cheney of not being truthful with the American people. It was a good choice of words. Because if Edwards had actually called Cheney a Liar, the old codger might have contentedly smiled for the first time in the evening, grateful for the compliment.

When the words pouring from your mouth, in the course of 90 minutes, are so riddled with half-truths and fabrications that someone can easily compile a Top Ten List of your Lies, you deserve much more attention than our notice.

So, Dick Cheney, until they lock you away, congratulations on being this week's BuzzFlash GOP Hypocrite.

Until next week, remember our motto at BuzzFlash.com: So many Republican hypocrites, so little time.

Catch up with you soon.
