GOP Hypocrite of the Week: John Moody

A BUZZFLASH EDITORIAL

Listen to the GOPHOTW HERE

Welcome back to the BuzzFlash.com GOP Hypocrite of the Week.

When we write the GOP Hypocrite of the Week, we usually find the dark humorous underside of the Radical Republican Party.

But this week, we are just angry. Very angry.

We watched Robert Greenwald's expose on FOX News, "Outfoxed," and could barely contain our sense of outrage -- and it takes a lot at this point to get BuzzFlash's jaded self REALLY mad.

Greenwald has, through detailed documentation and FOX's own news footage, exposed the radical Republican propaganda agenda of Murdoch's so-called news network. We all know that FOX News is a barely disguised house organ for the Republican Party, but it took months of monitoring the network and some whistle blowers to assemble a documentary that proves, beyond a reasonable doubt, that FOX News is just an extension of the Republican Party/White House spin of the day.

Seeing it laid out in an Emile Zola-style "J'Accuse" indictment really brought home how far America has strayed from a nation where journalism provided the bedrock of information to make democracy work.

FOX News owes more to the propaganda techniques -- updated with the latest technology -- of Stalin and Goebbels than it does to the American tradition of Tom Paine. FOX doesn't present news; it presents propaganda, White House spin, and high-pitched right wing punditry masquerading as news.

FOX News is the most Un-American media outlet in this nation. It is hypocrisy, propaganda and deception disguised as legitimate journalism.

At the center of the FOX News propaganda operation is the message point of the day, issued by FOX News Senior Vice President, News Editorial, John Moody. These memos, which mandate the spin of the day for ALL on-air "reporting" and commentary are truly chilling, particularly when Greenwald shows how a White House "message point" of the day becomes a FOX News mantra for that day's "coverage." A distinct phrase, which is consistent with the White House spin of the day, is repeated over and over again by on-air "talent."

It is Orwellian, disgusting, UnAmerican, and, most certainly, Unfair and Unbalanced.

Combined with the information we get from another documentary, "Orwell Rolls in His Grave," we are left with anger and sadness that much of American journalism has devolved into a totalitarian house organ, with FOX News being the worst example of "govertainment" and the rest of the mainstream press using some of its pro-Republican spin techniques to lesser degrees.

John Moody merits the dubious honor of being named the 40th BuzzFlash GOP Hypocrite of the week. But, with all due disdain, the award is given to him because we couldn't present it to the entire FOX News 24/7 GOP spin staff. They aren't just hypocrites; daily -- day in and day out -- they betray democracy and America.

Until next week, just remember our motto at BuzzFlash.com: So many Republican hypocrites, so little time.

Catch up with you soon.
