GOP Hypocrite of the Week: Marc Racicot

A BUZZFLASH EDITORIAL

Listen to the GOPHOTW HERE.

Welcome back to the BuzzFlash GOP Hypocrite of the Week.

Marc Racicot, Chairman of the Bush/Cheney Campaign is one wily rascal.

The former Montana Governor has been running around declaring that John Kerry is engaged in conduct unbecoming a presidential candidate. Now that's really something. Racicot is a huge hypocrite just for implying that the great prevaricator, George W. Bush, is some kind of role model for presidential behavior. Yeah, right.

King George spent his entire reign AWOL from the truth and Racicot is attacking Kerry as unfit to lead this nation?

And speaking of AWOL, according to the Missoula, Montana, "Independent," "Racicot was recently caught in a bold-faced lie on National Public Radio. During a Feb. 23 interview with NPR’s Juan Williams, Racicot stated: '[President Bush] signed up for dangerous duty. He volunteered to go to Vietnam. He wasn't selected to go, but nonetheless served his country very well'.”

But Racicot, in true Republican style, was doing a little prevaricating of his own. How do we know? Because, according to the "Independent," "Bush himself had totally contradicted Racicot during an interview with Tim Russert two weeks earlier. Russert asked Bush point-blank, 'Were you in favor of the Vietnam War?' Bush replied: 'I supported my government. I did. And I would have gone had my unit been called up, by the way.' Russert then asked: 'But you didn’t volunteer or enlist to go?' And Bush replied: 'No, I didn’t. You’re right.'...The form which Bush himself filled out and signed has a box checked that indicates our faux warrior president specifically opted out of any overseas assignments. "

Of course, Racicot may have a reason for lying about Bush's successful effort to avoid serving in Vietnam. Like Bush, Cheney, Ashcroft, Wolfowitz and Perle, Racicot is a Chickenhawk. Although Racicot had a low lottery draft number of 23 out of 366 in 1970, he avoided service in Vietnam by somehow going to law school and eventually into the military only AFTER the Vietnam War was over.

A columnist for the weekly "Billings Outpost" couldn't find a record of Racicot ever having even signed up for the selective service. Apparently, 268 men were killed from Montana during the Vietnam War, but, like Bush and Cheney, Racicot watched safely from the sidelines, even though others with draft numbers as low as his were getting their asses shot at into 'Nam.

With this information in hand, you might think that Racicot would show a little more respect and honesty when it comes to a decorated Vietnam combat veteran like John Kerry.

But that would be too much to ask of a Chickenhawk Republican. Expecting honesty, courage and integrity from a Bush Republican is like expecting virginity from a prostitute. It just ain't going to happen.

So Marc Racicot, we are pleased to inform you that you have proven that you truly merit the honor of being named the BuzzFlash GOP Hypocrite of the Week. After all, it's about the only medal of honor that you can bestow upon a lying Chickenhawk.

So, until next week, just remember our motto at BuzzFlash.com: So many Republican hypocrites, so little time.

Catch up with you soon.
