Can Change the World, Don't Forget It
A
BUZZFLASH EDITORIAL
BuzzFlash
Note: We ran this editorial in the beginning
of 2001, shortly after the Bush Cartel took control of
the U.S. government. We wrote it in reference to the
wave of outrage among pro-democracy Americans at how
the right wing was able to steal -- with the assistance
of the felonious five on the Supreme Court -- the 2000
presidential election. Because the Democrats in Congress,
except for the Black Caucus, did not contest the Supreme
Court coup, an administration came into power knowing
that it could get away with anything. After all, it muscled
its way into running the United States of America, despite
losing the popular vote by more than 542,000 votes. Why
shouldn't it be emboldened to go on a shop lifting spree? At that time, in the beginning of 2001, as the Bush
Cartel launched its onslaught against democracy and its
Neo-Confederacy agenda began to become clear, many patriotic
supporters of democracy began to despair. It was at that
time, we wrote the following editorial. It equally applies
to today, when the madness of King George appears likely
to lead us into a misguided war no matter what.

BUZZFLASH EDITORIAL Don't let them demean you or marginalize your efforts.
Don't let them suck away your energy for change.
Don't let them make you feel futile and irrelevant.
A generation ago, a grassroots movement of Americans
ended a misguided war when everyone, at first thought
their cause was hopeless.
"If it takes a cadre of crazed militants to stop
racial profiling, unwanted pregnancies, wife beating
and gay bashing," Anna Quindlen writes, "so
be it. The so-called special-interest groups will continue
to be demonized and denigrated while little by little,
year by year, what they believe becomes, not a political
position, but an accepted commonplace. Sure, it's a dirty
job. Thank God somebody does it."
Because of the impassioned protest against the Vietnam
War, because it grew from opposition at the fringes to
a mainstream movement of millions, because it succeeded,
tens of thousands of American lives were saved. These
men, who might have died in an ill-begotten war, are
now alive, with families, lovers and friends, because
people who cared about justice fought for a noble cause
through the era of Nixonian darkness—and they prevailed.
Just remember that this Administration is led by a Vietnam
evader whose vice president and attorney general dodged
the draft. These shameless men have no scruples; they
have no integrity. They ran on a deceptive platform and
campaign emphasizing primarily Democratic issues. Once
they were safely ensconced in the White House, they brought
in the right wing wrecking crew. In short, they deceived
the American public; they lied.
Just about 30 years ago, an energized opposition changed
the world against more formidable opponents than this
crew of hacks and pretenders. Remember: you helped Al
Gore win the election; you can help beat the men who
stole it from him.
You can change the world.
