Barbara's Daily BuzzFlash Minute A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons. June 9, 2006 * * * Hmm, is Katherine Harris staying in the race because she knows the “rig is in” and when all is said and done the “machines” will pick the Repuglican? Is she wise to the way of Repuglican winning? * * * I continue to be amazed at the old school conservative’s surprise that George Bush doesn’t play by the rules! What did they expect from him, this the same guy who invited his father to go “mano a mano” after an incident involving alcohol and an automobile? What exactly did they think a spoiled son of wealth would do with decorum and political correctness, rules and regulations when handed a position of power on a silver platter? Come on, this is the same guy who pledged his service to the National Guard in order to avoid conflict in Viet Nam, and then scurried off to continue a life filled with fun and games, and drugs and alcohol! George Bush is seeking to become the first King of the United States of America, and if anyone thinks little things like that “God damned piece of paper,” the Constitution, the law, the courts, the Congress or the citizens of the United States will stop him, it would be wise to wake up and smell the ties of tyranny, because George Bush is the personification of despotism, worthy of a comparison to the arrogance and madness of Stalin and Hitler, only without the brains!!!! My Grandmother used to say, “it doesn’t take a brain to be devious, calculating, and just plain downright evil”! * * * My God, its one thing to observe a cultural custom, “a local custom commonly known as 'solatia,' in which families receive financial compensation for damages or human losses,” but quite another to be so cavalier in its description, “Defense Department officials maintain that the payments -- which officials said range from a few hundred dollars for injuries such as a severed limb to $2,500 for the death of a relative”! God help us all when severed limbs and the death of a relative become so commonplace that it can be so casually associated with a predetermined amount of money! * * * The big story here isn’t really the “disparaging remarks” made by the British Deputy UN Secretary-General, Mark Malloch Brown, in his speech. The big story is the question of cracks in the relationship between Bush and England. Has the British government finally had enough of the bullying and the “cowboy” games? Is the one nation Bush and the gang depended on for credibility beginning to sway away? And just how welcome will further intimidation by John Bolton be for the “stiff upper lip” Brits? * * * “COULTER: … do not tell me it's both sides engaging in the mean-spiritedness.” Ann Coulter obviously projecting her own “mean-spirited” behavior, in a desperate attempt to frame the blame! And what’s with the most recently self-proclaimed champion of the middle class, Lou Dobbs??? “DOBBS: … but I will tell you this, I think your point in terms of university campuses, whether people like to hear it or not, is absolutely true. There is a mean-spiritedness I think abroad in many, many universities in which there is a liberal cant that is suffocating to free and independent thought. And on that, I will absolutely exceed your view.” * * * It sounds as though the Repuglicans are really serious about getting rid of that cosmetically enhanced pariah, Katherine Harris. The latest casualty, Fred Asbell, her fourth chief of staff, sent an email of resignation! * * * Actually the real good news of this week was the departure of the exterminator, Tom DeLay! Finally, the bug man has been exterminated, and all that can be said is good riddance to bad politicians! Hopefully the final paragraph in this “Contract on America” pest will be he got exactly what he earned, incarceration in a Texas jail!!! * * * It looks like fractures in Bush support are occurring everywhere! First with the law and his illegal “spying on Americans” via the NSA, then with Poppy over the Rumsfeld debacle, then with the retired Generals over Iraq, moving on to the Repugs over “illegal immigration,” then with the radical base over “gay marriage,” and now with the neocons, “Bush Overture To Iran Splits Israel, Neocons”! No wonder his speeches project a rehearsed “victim” image, he’s gotta do something to regain his footing, and “poor me” is all that’s left! * * * “LIN: QUESTION: This man is believed to have killed your son personally in a very brutal and horrific way. Don't you get any sense of relief or satisfaction that he is now no longer going to be able to kill anyone or (INAUDIBLE) any other families, like yours? MICHAEL BERG, FATHER OF NICHOLAS BERG: Well, it doesn't bring me personally relief because it doesn't bring my son back. And as far as the suffering of other families, I think that we could prevent the suffering of far more families if we would impeach George Bush today and end this war today. LIN: The reaction of a father who is not seeking any peace when it comes to the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the murderer of his son.” When a news channel seeks out a man, who has lost his son in such a horrific manner, for an opinion about the death of his son’s murderer, there should never be a judgment offered by the commentator regarding that man or his opinion! It was an unkind slap in the face to a man who did not deserve to be judged by someone so callous as to say something like Carol Lin said on air! * * * |
