Barbara's Daily BuzzFlash Minute A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons. April 26, 2006 * * * Thanks to George Bush, his unnecessary war, and his supporters, among them the laughable Moral Majority, “young women have been kidnapped and sold since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003. The Organization for Women's Freedom in Iraq, based in Baghdad, estimates from anecdotal evidence that more than 2,000 Iraqi women have gone missing in that period. A Western official in Baghdad who monitors the status of women in Iraq thinks that figure may be inflated but admits that sex trafficking, virtually nonexistent under Saddam, has become a serious issue.” In Iraq this is what has developed under the Bush version of “freedom and democracy”! * * * Don’t be fooled---mainstream corporate media is pushing the notion that if the Dems win in 2006 it will be one investigation after the other! There is an all out effort by the media to confuse and derail public opinion. The goal is to pull out all the plugs and do everything possible so the Repuglicans can maintain the status quo! This country would most certainly benefit from some Congressional Oversight and real investigations into the lies, the corruption, and the blatant attempts to thwart democracy. If democracy is to survive, then we the people must bring an end to one party, one rule. Vote Democratic in November! "BRIAN TODD, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Wolf, sinking poll numbers for the president, rising gas prices and daily salvos on Iraq. Could it get worse for the White House? One nightmare scenario starts on Election Day, 2006. TODD: A president under political siege. From voters who may exact revenge on his party. WILLIAM SCHNEIDER, CNN SENIOR POLITICAL ANALYST: If this is national election, a national campaign with national issues, there is a serious likelihood that the House and possibly the Senate could turn Democratic. TODD: Then analysts say, watch out. Years of frustration over prewar intelligence, the CIA leak scandal, the wiretapping controversy would mean an onslaught of investigations that may drive an already embattled White House to distraction. RON BROWNSTEIN, "LOS ANGELES TIMES": The Democrats would have subpoena power and they would probably be very aggressive in investigating a whole series of questions. TODD: Right now as the minority the Democrats don't have the votes to do that. But in the House where power is more likely to shift, John Conyers could become chairman of the Judiciary Committee. Already in favor of impeachment, he would have the power to lead a Democratic charge on domestic surveillance hearings. But could his stance on impeachment backfire? Listen to GOP chairman Ken Mehlman in THE SITUATION ROOM. KEN MEHLMAN, RNC CHAIRMAN: There are people who would like to be the leaders in Washington who believe that rather than giving the president every tool he needs to win the war on terror, they are making comments like impeachment and like censure. I think the American people need to understand that choice on election day. TODD: And if Democrats retake the House, Henry Waxman, a relentless Bush critic, could be elevated to chair the Government Reform Committee and would have the authority to launch a CIA leak investigation. And what about Jane Harman on the House Intelligence Committee? SCHNEIDER: She would very likely delve into the lapses in intelligence leading up to the Iraq War, which a lot of Americans are still puzzled by and impatient with." * * * Suddenly, in this an election year, all the president's men, all his heretofore supporters, are beginning to migrate to safety! Don’t be fooled or lulled into thinking they are going to change permanently, they aren’t, like geese flying south they will most surely return after the election season. It's politics as usual for the Repuglican Party, say one thing mean another. If they succeed in being re-elected it will all be back to the same old, same old, unbearable, yes men, cronyism and corruption we’ve had this last 6 years! * * * Where oh where is that conscience of morality, Joe Lieberman? Why isn’t he out front and on the floor of the Senate orating on the foibles and sins of George Bush, as he was so quick to condemn Bill Clinton? Couldn’t possibly be because he’s “a Republican in drag, pathetically carrying water for Dick Cheney in the hope he might catch a few crumbs of power that fall from the Republican banquet table,” could it? Does he honestly think that torture and abuse can be forgiven? Does he really believe that a private act of transgression surpasses willingly ordering an unnecessary preemptive war that resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent people, and over 2300 American soldiers? As a Senator does he really believe that undermining democracy and ignoring that “piece of paper” the Constitution is acceptable? I suppose he does because, “His response to Russ Feingold's call for censuring Bush for his blatantly illegal, wholesale wiretapping of the American people” was "I don't want to scold the president." Sorry, Joe, the heinous, incomprehensible acts committed by the Bush administration require more than a “scolding,” people have died, democracy is in jeopardy, and if this nation is to survive, we must have leadership that recognizes the Constitution and obeys the law! * * * Americans are ahead of the members of Congress! Today, public opinion is in the lead yet again, chomping at the bit for some politician to do something---Americans are aware that George Bush lied in order to wage an unnecessary preemptive war, and some of us are questioning his serious lack of action pre 9-11 when he received a PDB that warned of a terrorist attack, we recognize he’s trashed this country domestically, and because of him our reputation worldwide has slid into oblivion, yes, we are aware that Bush is incapable, incompetent, and unable to do the job he wanted so badly he had to steal it. Some state governments are beginning to rally the calls for impeachment, one can only hope the politicians in Washington D.C. will hear and heed that call! * * * It’s called how to best shut up the criticism, hire him! “Tony Snow, host of FOX NEWS SUNDAY” will be the newest officially recognized member of the Bush administration. The mere fact he worked for FOX and he’s now joining “the team” at the White House should be enough to tell Americans it will be business as usual and if you thought there would be changes, better to think it over again. Critiquing George Bush and/or his policies is not part of the job description, ready, set, go, we will be getting a real Snow job from this White House Press Secretary! * * * "... there were a number of issues that affected Bush's approval including the continuing war in Iraq, the cleanup from Hurricane Katrina, demands for tougher border enforcement and skyrocketing energy prices. ‘Those events cast doubt on the president's ability to govern,’ says Samuel Best, director of the University of Connecticut's Center for Survey Research and Analysis." Cast doubt? Err, these events prove that George Bush hasn’t got the ability to govern, didn’t have it then, doesn’t have it now, besides Americans don’t like a liar and lying is the only thing Bush has to offer! Time for a change----Impeach Bush/Cheney! * * *
