Barbara's Daily BuzzFlash Minute A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons. March 9, 2006 * * * Just in case you’re still wondering exactly who is running this country take note of this latest hint--- “The agreement, hashed out in weeks of negotiations between Vice President Dick Cheney and Republicans critical of the program,” and then there’s this: “Mr. Hagel said the group worked out the last-minute deal in long telephone calls with Mr. Cheney; the White House counsel, Harriet E. Miers; and Stephen J. Hadley.” What exactly do the Repugs think they’ll get out of another committee? The various committees they have now can’t get enough information out of this administration to conduct “oversight,” so “another committee” only goes for show!!! * * * "Q: Mr. Secretary, the vice president just addressed the issue of Iran and said, quote, 'We will not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon.' He said if Iran remains on its current course, it will face 'meaningful consequences.' SEC. RUMSFELD: I will say this about Iran. They are currently putting people into Iraq to do things that are harmful to the future of Iraq. And we know it, and it is something that they, I think, will look back on as having been an error in judgment. Q: Why is that? SEC. RUMSFELD: I've said all I have to say.'" Look out Toto, it looks as though this ill wind is blowing us straight into Iran, and the results ain’t gonna be pleasant. * * * "SEC. RUMSFELD: The -- we do know, of course, that al Qaeda has media committees. We do know that they teach people exactly how to try to manipulate the media. They do this regularly. We see the intelligence that reports on their meetings”---and just where do you think Al Qaeda learned this bit of manipulation? The masters of manipulation, the Office of Disinformation, couldn’t have been their role model could they, do ya think???? * * * “Nuclear Madness” (Bob Herbert): Actually this is the madness born of insane men who would be dictators. How in God’s name can this Congress allow George Bush the leeway to insanely ignore the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty! It’s gone beyond privileged spoiled frat boy, we are now in the realm of insanity, and it is way past time to reign in this madman who is so dangerous to the health and well being of the entire world. * * * "Vice President Dick Cheney today addressed another critical national security challenge. Vice President Cheney told Iran the international community will take action if Tehran continues with its nuclear defiance. RICHARD CHENEY, VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: 'For our part, the United States is keeping all options on the table in addressing their irresponsible conductive (ph) regime. And we join other nations in sending that regime a clear message, we will not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon.' DOBBS: Vice President Cheney's remarks following a warning by the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton, earlier this week. Bolton said there will be tangible and painful consequences, as he put it, for Iran if it continues with its nuclear program." Throwing caution to the winds, is Dick Cheney attempting to make hay while he can? Due to his status decreasing, in the hearts and minds of the people of America, is he ignoring diplomacy in order to speed up their preconceived plan to dominate the world? My God, people he’s talking World War III here, and this time it won’t be pretty, nuclear war means the end of the world. Given his heart condition and prognosis, does he figure he really doesn’t have a whole lot to lose? * * * “In this high-stakes game of nuclear-roulette, Bush has opted to pick sides and gamble on the future.” It leaves one wondering, if all intents and purposes are definitely meant to lead down that road to Armageddon? Is George Bush deliberately inciting a “nukcular” war? All the Repuglican shenanigans, the lies, the cover-ups, the downright criminal acts, in an effort to save the Party will be to no avail, because in the end, if Bush is allowed to continue, none of us will be left! * * * Taking a stand on the ports deal is not enough to give these Repuglican jokers a pass into our futures! There have been too many underhanded, downright criminal acts committed in the name of the American people, and to allow such egregious deeds to occur and then cover it up is as guilty as having committed them! This bunch of ne’er do wells cannot redeem themselves with just one correction. Haven’t they realized yet, they all look just like the dangerous buffoon they have worked so hard to protect? What’s that old phrase, “Birds of a feather,” well it certainly is apropos in this situation. The Bush rotten apple has certainly tainted the entire Repuglican barrel and America suffers. * * * While I deeply regret the loss of Dana Reeves, a woman of great courage and determination, and my heart goes out to her family, I am stunned at the air time given her death by CNN. If CNN was truly as mournful as the numerous reporters portrayed themselves to be, why weren’t they heralding her cause? Why wasn’t more emphasis put on stem cell research, why did they barely mention that she carried the banner promoting stem cell research for her husband after he succumbed to an illness he suffered as a result of his disability? It seems to me there should be a legitimate debate regarding research that has the promise of being the biggest breakthrough in the field of medicine to end human suffering we’ve ever seen. Medical decisions that affect the health and well being of us all should not be left to just one single-minded man exercising his personal religious views in a political realm. * * * My heartfelt thanks go out to a true American hero, brave enough to stand for his convictions! Being acutely aware of my own father’s fervor and dedication to our country, I know this act of patriotism was one of the most difficult things Joseph DuRocher has ever done. His is a reflection of what more and more Americans are truly feeling about George Bush and this administration. Thank you Mr. DuRocher for letting us know we are not alone! * * * |
