Barbara's Daily BuzzFlash Minute A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons. February 21, 2006 * * * What happens to the economy and the fastest growing jobs when no one has enough money to buy fast food? Who on earth would have the temerity to tout an increase in the lowest paying jobs as "a rosy economic scenario"! Why none other than that moron George Bush, that’s who! * * * Ever since Cheney’s "hunting accident," I can’t get the following annoying little ditty out of my mind---I shot the lawyer but wouldn’t talk to the deputy, playing to the tune of "I Shot the Sheriff"! My only relief is knowing it won’t be long and this administration will commit another act that will replace this one in my head and the hopes of a better future without a Repuglican Party majority! * * * When "three of the best political analysts" known to be Repuglicans, get together with Lou Dobbs, who is himself a self-proclaimed Repuglican, to negatively criticize actions taken by this Bush Repuglican administration on national television, then you know there’s trouble in the Party starting at the top. Whether you agree or disagree with Mr. Dobbs' opinions, "Lou Dobbs Tonight" is one of the rare programs these days that gives to the public an accurate account of the news as it’s happened. * * * Ironic that the man who started this whole Iraqi war mess based on lies and fear now thinks he can use "national security" as the top Repuglican partisan issue in the 2006 election campaign. It’s insane to believe a preconceived, pre-planned, preemptive, unnecessary war, that has caused the death of thousands of innocent people and over 2300 American soldiers is a guarantee for America’s safety and security! It’s insane to believe George Bush, the moron who ignored an August 6th PDB, the coward who speaks to pre-screened, invited only audiences right here at home, is capable of defeating a "ruthless enemy" anywhere! * * * Wiser men than George Bush are quite aware that the Danish cartoons are a tangible act that Muslims worldwide can wrap their anger around in retaliation for all that has been said and done about them and their religion. Remember those infamous words, spoken by an insensitive, inexperienced moron: "crusade." And then there was the "axis of evil," and a preemptive "shock and awe" war in Iraq, culminating with "Gitmo" and Abu Ghraib! Not exactly my idea of how to win the hearts and minds of another culture and definitely not an example of how democracy should work anywhere in the world, much less the United States of America. Yes, the prisons should be closed and the courts opened! * * * To all those who claim they don’t care if they are targeted for illegal wire-tapping because they have nothing to hide---how would you feel about it if you were "mistakenly" labeled a threat and detained in an undisclosed location or flown to a gulag somewhere far away in order to torture the "truth" out of you as so many innocent people have had done to them thus far? Remembering the pictures of Abu Ghraib, would you be one of those who would admit to anything, rather than endure any further horror and abuse? George Bush is a citizen of the United States, as are the rest of us, and thus subject to the laws of the land. Terrorism cannot be overcome by following the principles of terrorists. Terrorism can only be overcome by adhering to the principles of this nation. It must be combated by following the law! * * * Attempting to make cake out of bull by blaming the victim through surrogates has been the hallmark of this administration since day one---and no matter how surrogate Matalin tries to spin the whole "I shot the lawyer" fiasco, that’s exactly what they did until it got them into political hot water! It leaves me wondering how these self-proclaimed ultra religious so-called Christians can lie with a straight face and forked tongue! What exactly is it about "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor" they don’t understand? * * * If churches ever find themselves in the middle of a "tax-exempt" battle, they have no one to blame but the Repuglican Party! When Repuglican activists "ask churchgoers to furnish church directories to the campaign and to use their churches as a base for political organizing," it is certainly going too far into the realm of separation of church and state. It is putting churches in jeopardy, and is an act of disrespect "for the integrity of all houses of worship" as pointed out by "ten professors of ethics at major seminaries and universities." But then this is the Repuglican Party, and they do have an ethics problem as evidenced by the corruption scandal sweeping Washington, D.C. in these days of Repuglican majorities! * * * If indeed Dick Cheney "declassified" information regarding Valerie Plame so Scooter Libby could give it to a whole bunch of reporters, then for God’s sake why is Gonzales not turning the emails relating to the Plame affair over to the special prosecutor? "Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is refusing to turn over incriminating emails to special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, emails that allegedly indicate the involvement of Vice President Dick Cheney and other high-ranking administration officials in the unmasking of Agent Plame. 'The emails Gonzales is said to be withholding contained references to Valerie Plame Wilson's identity and CIA status and developments related to the inability to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq ...'" * * * |
