Barbara's Daily BuzzFlash Minute A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons. December 9 , 2005 * * * As the Repuglicans trail in the polls and lose the popularity they once had---we can only hope this won’t prompt the “terrorists” (whoever they are) to launch another attack on the “homeland”! * * * Another week of posturing, another week of attempts to shift the blame for the Iraqi war on to the Democrats because Joe Lieberman, D-Conn., said we should continue the fight in Iraq! Another week of loyal to the end, stand by her man, Condoleezza Rice traipsing around in a vain attempt to dispel the accusations of torture and abuse, giving speeches filled with a, “defensive, dense and evasive tone … replete with half-truths, outright falsehoods, distortions and subterfuges,” while every day brings new evidence that torture and abuse are occurring. More attempts to reframe and divert the truth by using the word “rendition” instead of admitting prisoners were shipped off to places where this administration knew that torture and abuse were acceptable methods of interrogation! We’ve spent another week of watching mainstream corporate media slide back into that oh so comfortable, safe and secure position of supporting Bush and his policies. Another week of “pie in the sky” claims of a good economy while thousands of Americans are losing their jobs, and retired seniors now have to worry their pensions are no longer a monthly check in the mail! Another week of deficit spending that our children’s children will have to repay, while fat cats get richer and the poor are losing the food that they eat and the medical care they need. This week an American citizen, mentally incapacitated, was shot and killed in the name of “homeland security”! What have we become and what will we become, when the fear that Bush, his administration, and the Republican Party has instilled in us all, is the underlying driving force? The good news, is most of us recognize that we are living in a “Groundhog Day World,” and we’re trying to find our way back to sanity! * * * “Wilkerson: ... Recently I had occasion to be on a panel with a former prime minister of Canada who said, 'It's not so much that we Canadians are anti-American, it's that we are very, very worried about a headless giant.' And that stuck with me because that is an apt metaphor in some cases for this superpower right now. It seems leaderless. It seems directionless.” “Leaderless?, Directionless? That comment was just a polite way to literally tell you and America that George Bush is a moron, a brainless, witless, empty headed twit who has his finger on the Doomsday button, and that my dear friend is cause for worry! * * * Exactly how free are you when your country has been destroyed by bombs and depleted uranium weaponry? How does it feel wondering if the unborn baby you are carrying may come into this world deformed as a result from that left over radiation expelled when DU weaponry was exploded? What does freedom mean when you face the possibility of being blown to smithereens every time you go to the market, or walk your children to school? How does it feel knowing your husband or wife may not return home each and every time they walk out the front door because someone is likely to shoot them as they go about their daily routine? How does it feel knowing the hospital doesn’t always have the necessary supplies to treat the sick and the wounded? How does it feel knowing you can’t count on having electricity or potable water? What’s it like living in what you’re told is a free society when your basic safety isn’t secure? Ask an Iraqi and hear what he has to say---“We thought [the Americans] would bring freedom. They got rid of Saddam,” Hattab said. “Now it’s going on three years and what? Where is this freedom?” * * * “Sen. Joseph Lieberman …, D-Conn., said earlier this week that Democrats "undercut the president's credibility at our nation's peril." Err, excuse me Joe but this president has no credibility! Our nation is in peril because George Bush lied us into an unnecessary preemptive war, just in case YOU haven’t noticed, George Bush invaded Iraq, our soldiers and thousands of innocent Iraqis are dead because this president lied in order to wage a pre-conceived, ill-planned, war and because he did, not only the Middle-East, but now the whole world is a more dangerous place! We are in peril because his stupidity created one of the worst horrors ever committed! And all those who continue to support this madness are as guilty as George Bush in aiding and abetting the terror resulting from the Iraqi war! How do you tell an Iraqi mother and father, your child is dead because George Bush lied to invade your country so he could bring you “freedom and democracy”? * * * “Wilkerson: … because Secretary Rumsfeld made the decision not to enlarge the army two years ago, it's inevitable that they'll be pulled out. Otherwise we will break our Army and Marine Corps, sometime in 2006, or 2007. That's the reality. The second and far more important dimension is the situation in Iraq. We now have to finish the job, otherwise we will, at a minimum, have a civil war and the whole Middle East would be in danger; I could see a tragedy of monumental proportions developing. So I agree 100 percent with the President that we have to stay until we get it right -- and I hope that can be done in the one to two years we have before we destroy the Army and the Marine Corps.” Err, excuse me but there is no WE in this equation, there’s only, Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/ and the Repuglicans and what happens if it isn’t done in the next one to two years? What happens if George Bush and the gang are allowed to destroy the Army and the Marine Corps? This doesn’t add up to a whole lot of safety and security for America and it sure as hell doesn’t contribute much to the safety and security of the Iraqi people! Bush and the others have broken it into so many pieces there isn’t enough glue to put it all back together!!! Besides why should the burden of repair be on the shoulders of our children only??? * * *
