Barbara's Daily BuzzFlash Minute A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons. December 8 , 2005 * * * On December the 8th some years ago, a Doctor arrived at the hospital where I worked, for “rounds.” He was wearing a black arm band on his sleeve and, fearing he had had a family tragedy, I respectfully said I was sorry for his loss! He looked at me with astonishment most evident in his eyes and said “John Lennon’s death was a loss for us all! Lennon’s message was one of hope, of peace and harmony, a world in which we could all exist together, without fear of hatred or war and for someone to take that away from the world in an act of murder is incomprehensible! His message that we are all connected by the very fact we’re all human beings is the most profound truth that anyone could ever be given.” To this day I always pause to remember what a wonderful world this would be if we could all just “Imagine”! * * * If New Orleans is any indication of how good the Bush administration is at rebuilding infrastructure, then Iraqis beware! It’s been months now, and New Orleans residents have yet to see any relief, no potable water, no electricity, and no debris removal, for God’s sake, they haven’t even gotten all the dead bodies out of there! Bush stood up in front of a Cathedral promising New Orleans “say cheese for the camera” the moon, but so far all they’ve gotten is empty rhetoric! Why in the world would anyone think there will be success in Iraq, when the Bush administration can’t even get the lights on for the people of New Orleans? Yesterday’s speech regarding Iraq was just pompous, questionable oratory designed to dodge the truth. As the American people have come to realize, just because George Bush says so, doesn’t make it factual. As has previously been proven, everything he says is the opposite of reality! * * * Thus far Bush’s war on “terrah,” and his methodology of instilling fear in everyone, as well as his practice of intimidation and bullying, has netted some innocent bystanders horrendous torture and abuse, Iraqi taxi drivers have been shot and wounded or killed, Iraqi civilians have been bombed while huddled in their houses without any place else to go, over 2100 American troops are dead, untold thousands of innocent Iraqis have been killed, and yesterday, one mentally incapacitated American citizen was shot dead in Miami because he didn’t take his medications and was having what is more commonly known as a “mental health crisis”! (During a “crisis” the person is likely to be confused and frightened, their thoughts and feelings as well as their actions are beyond their control, a calm and reassuring manner is the recommended approach! If the person is deemed a threat to himself or others, one should call emergency services, though shooting to kill is not listed as a method for control.) * * * Haven’t seen the movie, “Munich,” but certainly intend to do so! Anyone who promotes peaceful negotiation is commendable and Stephen Spielberg has my admiration and my vote of confidence! While Bush changed the mood of some in this nation to intimidation and bullying, there are still those among us who recognize the morality and necessity of diplomatic resolution, and I thank and support those brave enough to do just that! * * * If there had ever been any doubt about Bush’s intentions to wage war in Iraq no matter what---there’s one small telling piece of evidence that this was a preconceived, pre-planned, with malice and forethought war! The very fact that Bush has not ratified the international criminal court of justice is glaring proof that the consequences of waging a preemptive aggressive war had been considered, and that the possibility for prosecution for crimes against humanity existed---so how better to avoid conviction? Why, ignore the court altogether, of course! And since this guy Bush is not really interested in traveling very far from Texas after leaving office, there’s no future worry regarding arrest while on a post-presidency junket!!! Once all the pieces were in place, the puzzle was complete. The only problem is, the puzzle is a picture of chaos and confusion, death and destruction, and in the end we’ll be blamed for allowing Bush to stay in office! * * * Hmm Condi Rice had this to say when commenting on the war on “terrah” and the war in Iraq: "What I would hope that our allies would acknowledge, is that we are all in this together." George Bush and Condoleezza Rice don’t seem to understand our allies aren’t seeing “togetherness,” they’re all eyeing the Bush administration with cynical suspicion! Generally people believe if a preemptive unnecessary war has happened once, what’s to stop it from happening again? And the thinking is, next time it could be us! Memo to Rice: You would do well to remember, no one trusts a liar, and you and George have been caught lying many times over already. Friends don’t like it when you try intimidating and bullying them into submission; when you’re dealing with friends, a little please and thank you goes a long way, if you really want a peaceful resolution. Oh, my mistake, you aren’t interested in peace and well being, yours is to wage war and includes the entire world in order to achieve a “Mission Accomplished” world domination! * * *
