Barbara's Daily BuzzFlash Minute A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons. October 17, 2005 Did the Iraqis go to the polls to vote on a constitution or did they go to vote to end Bush's occupation of their country? Can it really be seen as a plus for George Bush, or was it really just another loss among many? * * * How do "journalists" in mainstream media feel about Judy Miller now, or haven't they quite figured it out yet? She has put at risk those who wear "PRESS" on their backs! Having agreed to a DOD "classified security clearance" she, in essence, gave up her standing as a journalist and became an agent of the United States Government. Journalists the world over have heretofore been known to be there to tell the "story," to tell the truth, but their interest was only the "news." Now, thanks to Judy Miller’s "clearance," every journalist will most certainly be suspected of clandestine operations! * * * No matter the country, religious fanaticism -- be it Islamic or Christian -- that seeks to impose its principles on everyone, eventually becomes the enemy of freedom and democracy! In a discussion regarding the nomination of Harriet Miers, the following question was overheard: "Based on your personal knowledge of her, if she had the opportunity, do you believe she would vote to overturn Roe vs. Wade?" The answers, were, "Absolutely" and "I agree with that, I concur." If this is true, and I believe it is, Harriet Miers could be construed as an enemy of the state and her nomination should be treated as such and firmly rejected by the Senate of the United States of America! * * * With all that money continuing to pour into DeLay’s coffers, it sounds as though there may be a whole lot of people out there who don't want this DeLay indictment to turn into another extensive Abramoff investigation. Are they sympathetic to DeLay, or are they just plain downright afraid of getting caught up in a much bigger net? * * * My Grandmother used to say, "It doesn't help to lie, because lies beget lies and once started can never be stopped!" This premise is more than evident in George Bush's war in Iraq. He lied about WMD's to wage that war, he lied when he said "Mission Accomplished," and he's been lying ever since in order to continue his ill conceived, maniacal plan that has resulted in destruction and disaster. |
