Barbara's Daily BuzzFlash Minute A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons. September 20, 2005 * * * And mainstream corporate media’s Bush drum beat goes on! Americans aren’t as dumbed down as some seem to think---we know George Bush only went to New Orleans when his political future was in jeopardy. To try and pretend he cares about poor people and black people is ludicrous. He wasn’t about saving New Orleans, he was about saving himself when in his dim-witted mind he finally realized his political future was at risk, but his same old tired phrases, dressing for the occasion, and staged photo-ops won’t change things this time. His “fly-over,” his ignorance, his absence and his outright callous disregard has been seen by the whole country and we’ve finally arrived at “you can’t fool all the people all the time”! So to those so-called “journalists,” if you continue to try and make the people believe what you want them to believe, you won’t have an audience! * * * While I appreciate John Kerry’s remarks in a speech given at Brown University, and I agree with all he had to say, I find myself lamenting, “too little, too late” for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and for America. Where were his cajones the day after the questionable election results in Ohio, you remember that rather infamous speech, the “I concede” bulls*%t! That’s when he could have been a “statesman,” the man of the hour, the champion of the people, the savior of democracy! Somehow my enthusiasm has waned, and my faith has become more than questionable where John Kerry is concerned! Actions speak louder than words, and his time for action has long since gone into the annals of history as impotent. I, for one, don’t want to witness another “sorry, I gave it my all, but the rigged voting machines and the Repuglican fact fixers have spoken”! * * * One thing for sure we’ve learned from Hurricane Katrina---a pound of prevention costs a hell of a lot less than tons of cure! * * * Another of CNN’s “no brainer” Quick-vote questions! “Do you think Al Qaeda has managed to recover from the loss of Afghanistan?” Uhhhh, excuse me CNN, where have you been, “the loss of Afghanistan” implies Al Qaeda has lost the whole country, but last I heard that’s still debatable since Kabul seems to be the only semi stable area in the region. And in case you haven’t noticed, Iraq has given way to terrorism on a scale of 1 to 10, at around 20! “RECOVER?” I’d say Al Qaeda has managed to thrive and grow, in numbers, in scope, intensity, and skill, and there are more than 1900 dead American soldiers who can attest to the fact that Al Qaeda has become an army to be reckoned with thanks to the inconceivable incompetence of that “regular guy” George Bush! * * * Congratulations go out to Jon Stewart and The Daily Show for the latest Emmy accomplishments, but more than that---my gratitude and appreciation for being the best damn news cast on television! * * * Blue shirts turn to brown in New York City and we all get a glimpse into our future in a Bush/Rove America! Dissenting opinion is not tolerated, and democracy has died! The NYPD did more than stop a grieving mother who lost her son in the Iraq War from talking about it; they have struck down the very heart of America. No “heroes” in this bunch of first responders, no hope for we the people! Fascism is insidious, all pervading and it’s thriving in New York City. Note to Mayor Bloomberg, NOT A GOOD WAY TO DRAW TOURISM! Note to myself, no vacation plans in the Big Apple this year! * * * Hmm, why are the polls so reflective of negative public regard for George Bush, I wonder? Let me count the ways! America has lost a whole city and more Americans have died on American soil due to incompetence, callous disregard, and no federal response (the Bush administration can’t use the poor and/or lack of “intelligence” excuse this time); Iraq is on the verge of civil war; Afghanistan is limited to the precarious stability of Kabul; our economy is in the toilet, excluding the war profiteers of course; civil rights and civil liberty have long since been compromised if not eliminated entirely; torture and abuse have become an acceptable method of interrogation; Osama is still at large looking forward to residing in Saddam’s palaces; the anthrax killer is still lurking out there somewhere; top government officials have become the “sources” for outing CIA agents and committing treasonous acts that compromise the safety and security of America; our right to vote for the candidate of choice has been taken over by Repuglican black box fixing the facts voting machines; corruption and cronyism runs rampant; jobs are being exported faster than goods; confusion and chaos as to which religion will become “the religion”; and on and on, while the breaking news of the day was, George Bush cuts his vacation short by 2 whole days, not to mention some of the “sort of scary” remarks made by the other members of the Bush family! I’d say the poll results are favorable for Bush, because what he’s done to America should reflect a minus zero approval rating! * * * George Bush can spout “progress” and “hard work” all he wants, but that doesn’t change the fact that our soldiers are dying in Iraq every day. And for what, democracy? Freedom? “To fight ‘em over there,” all the while those we love continue to die “over there”? It’s long since past time to Impeach George Bush for lying to the American people, and bring those we love home! * * * |
