Barbara's Daily BuzzFlash Minute A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons. May 5, 2005 * * * Amazing, isn't it, how mainstream media in the United States overlooks the real news of the day to cover such inane stories as “the runaway bride!” Here in black and white is proof positive that George Bush and company “fixed the facts” to “justify” the war in Iraq and not one peep from those 24/7 news channels. They can attach all the ego inflating words they want, “the most trusted name in news, the most powerful news, fair and balanced,” but the facts remain the same---freedom of the press here in the United States only means freedom not to report the truth, not to expose the Bush lies. * * * When the same tactics used by terrorists are used to fight terrorism, then one becomes the terrorist! “Fixing the facts” to “justify” the war in Iraq was wrong. It may be the Bush way to accomplish the mission, but it certainly isn't the American way. Truth, justice, and the American way is a phrase that George Bush is as unfamiliar with as he is with reading the daily newspapers. (Come to think of it, why should he read the news or listen to news channels when he and Rove scripted the entire presentation?) How can anyone possibly believe that we are bringing “liberation, freedom, and democracy” to Iraq when Bush is robbing Americans of the same? How can we even ask the question at this point, “Why do they hate us?” We have allowed Bush to bully, intimidate, and wage war based on lies! It is time to impeach the thief and the liar, it is time to try and regain some dignity in the world. * * * Frankly, anyone who recommended the “hostages” in Iran being held longer for any reason needs to be prosecuted for aiding and abetting undue stress and strife on American citizens. To do it for political “look good” reasons only adds to the monstrous audacity of the act! It goes to show how little regard the Bushies have for anyone else when it comes to making themselves look good! Appearances and how it affects the Bush family is all that matters to them. It is incomprehensible that a man running for Vice President of this country would knowingly prolong captivity of an American citizen in a foreign country, it is a moral crime of such magnitude that nothing can justify the act! * * * The Office of Disinformation is not the only culprit; psychology is being used by politicians, mainstream media, talking head pundits, and yes, even some religious leaders on a daily basis to sway the American public's opinion. In an effort to change logical thinking into believing ridiculous policy, psyops is at work. The Repuglicans like to wrap their chicanery in some form of red white and blue nonsense in order to promote the false sense of patriotism. Mainstream media uses every psychological trick in the book to present George Bush in the best possible light, though seemingly hard at times, definitely not impossible, the talking head pundits will outright lie to prove a point. Religious leaders call on faith to make the case for an otherwise blasphemous performance by Bush and his administration. “Framing” is just another word for psychology and another way not to tell the truth. One prime example has been, “Even though we waged a preemptive war on Iraq and there weren't WMDs, we did a good thing because we liberated a nation of oppressed people”---forget about the thousands of innocent lives lost, forget about the children who have suffered, forget about the over 1500 dead American soldiers, forget about the life-altering injuries suffered by unknown numbers of our troops, forget about the insurgency, forget about the fact that terrorism is on the rise in the Middle East, forget the fact that peace has not been accomplished, forget about the fact that, knowingly, this administration lied to wage that war, and even down to forget about creating democracy as we know it in Iraq! It's all being done to fool most of the people all of the time! * * * Defense mechanisms, the psychological kind, are at the crux of the American psyche and quite possibly responsible for the questionable reactions we see in modern society. A major “defense mechanism”---reaction formation---is defined as “a behavioral tendency developed in direct opposition to a repressed impulse!” Otherwise explained as homosexual desires and/or tendencies repressed, that consciously become homophobic expression. The origins of behavioral development can be very interesting and go a long way in explaining today's politics and the world around us! * * *
