Barbara's Daily BuzzFlash Minute A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons. February 9, 2005 * * * If Jesus Christ Himself made an appearance and challenged George Bush's policies, He would find things on this earth haven't changed at all. Karl Rove and his political smear machine (Swift boat Vets, RNC, etc.) would go to work to label Christ some kind of “liberal wacko weirdo,” a guy who's never married and runs around in flowing robes with, get this, 12 men wearing the same “girlie” clothing, preaching tolerance and love. Aided and abetted by mainstream media, the campaign to run Him out of town on a rail would go quickly. Jesus would find that charity in any form is no longer considered a virtue by at least half the population of the United States! It's been over 2000 years and yessiree bobtail some things still remain the same! * * * There was a time when I kept the tube tuned to CNN all day to keep abreast of the news. The reports presented both sides of a debate with an unbiased sense of fairness. Today it is a rare occasion to watch anything CNN. Occasionally my husband will tune in, but each and every time we are disappointed in the glitz, flash, and seemingly inane rhetoric those who think themselves “journalists.” Larry King has been reduced to the latest in salacious scandal, tabloid gossip that usually has no real impact on society, Paula Zahn has only proven she's just another Barbara Walters wannabee without the same pizzazz, and Wolf Blitzer is the biggest Bush suck up of all, these days. American Morning has cloned Good Morning America right down to stealing the name, without the star quality, and the rest of the crew rounds out mediocre in the clearest sense of definition. Sad but true, Ted Turner's bold innovative foundation of news presentation has been reduced to just another Office of Disinformation channeled on America 's airwaves. * * * I vaguely remember some whispers that Bush and his gang didn't really want to capture Osama bin Laden, and that they purposely allowed him to get away, it was back when we thought they were fighting a “war on terrorism.” You know, long ago before Iraq. Seems others now are saying the United States had no intention of capturing bin Laden when they had the chance. "SEPTEMBER TAPES, JOHNSTON: There was a handful of people that worked inside of the Northern Alliance, and we had direct access to a lot of them. This scene -- there's a number of scenes in the movie. Some of them we had to delete or not put in the initial release of the film, where people explained to us very openly, Osama bin Laden was allowed to escape over -- into the Pakistani border, into Waziristan, and that they felt that the U.S. government didn't want to capture him.” Could the Bush administration's reasoning be laid at Iraq's front door step? Did they need Osama in order to make the case for a pre-emptive war in Iraq? Did they think that capturing bin Laden might possibly end their march to dominate the world? Did they believe Americans would have had enough of war if Osama was captured? So many questions that end with the same conclusive answer---because they allowed Osama to escape, all deaths attributed to Al Qaeda can also be attributed to the Bush administration! * * * My dear friend and neighbor told me 4 ½ years ago that her main concern, after the SCOTUS appointed George Bush as our president, was with mainstream media. At the time, I thought my goodness how can that be, how can anyone think the media wouldn't report the truth to the American people, it's their job! It only goes to prove just how naïve I really was and how naïve more than half the American people remain! In general the American people believe our government is as honest as apple pie and ice cream and that they always function in the best interests of the American people. As evidenced by the actions of George Bush and the current administration this is but a fantasy. If we really want a red white and blue America where only the highest moral values prevail, we must exercise the powers granted to us by the forefathers in the Constitution. We must take back our air waves and insist on an objective free press, we must get rid of any hint of an Office of Disinformation, we must demand justice according to the law and we must be sure our lawmakers do the job they were elected to do. Impeachment anyone??? * * * It's amazing how the American people react and recoil from the news of child abuse here in the United States, as well they should! But what about torture and abuse of “detainees?” And has anyone given any thought to the possibility of our troops being charged with criminal culpability? Will these brave men and women be held accountable somewhere down the line because they obeyed Bush's orders? If kidnapping and abduction becomes the norm, will we find those soldiers, including NCO's, identified as leaders, being kidnapped in order to face a court of law in some foreign land for the acts committed in Bush's war? To say George Bush, Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, Alberto Gonzales, John Ashcroft and a whole cadre of others who contributed to this era of torture and abuse, have opened Pandora's Box, would the biggest understatement of the century thus far. * * * Oh those Bushies how they do like to play mind and word games with the American public! “Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said, ‘that U.S. attacks on Iran are simply not on the agenda at this point”, yeah, just like there were “no plans on my desk to attack Iraq” from Bush. Note the last three words of Rice's statement, “at this point,” which leads one to logically conclude that, yes at some point we will attack Iran! Bush and the rest of the gang just need a little more time to lay the groundwork to convince the American people it's all being done to make them safer. In the meantime, however, where will the next terrorist attack occur and just who will be the terrorists? We've lost 3000 unsuspecting innocent lives already, on American soil, we've been told over and over another attack is inevitable, and exactly how many innocent lives must be sacrificed in order to gain support for Bush's eternal wars? * * * Hold your loved ones close, because soon they'll be marching off to Bush's eternal war! It looks as though Iran is the next stop in this madman's diabolical plan and he's going to need a bigger army to do it. Does anyone else feel the “Draft” coming our way? The excuses are already in the bag---“I had to institute the draft to make America safer.” He won't hesitate to send our sons and daughters off to fight his wars! * * * |
