| Barbara's
Daily BuzzFlash Minute
A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). We'll collect a week's worth here and then archive them. Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons. August 13, 2004 When the people running the government allow pharmaceutical companies to charge citizens exorbitantly outrageous prices for drugs, which mean the difference between life or death for those who need them, it tells you exactly what this administration thinks of those people! As long as those who profit from public-bilking corporations are allowed to remain in office, the American people will be the losers! Remember, it's your moms and dads, grandmothers and grandfathers who must chose between eating and securing the drugs they need to survive. And it's all thanks to George Bush. * * * Hmm, the Bush administration is a really good example of the right hand not knowing what the other right hand is doing! While Cheney condemned John Kerry for using the word sensitivity in a speech regarding the war on terrorism, he seemed oblivious to the fact that his boss Bush had also spoken of being sensitive in that same war on terrorism. These guys are so intent on trashing the opponent, they forget to check their own credentials! * * * If only Democrats would play the same game! What better way to underscore that Porter Goss is not the man for the job of CIA Director than using his own words: "I am not qualified for the job," he told Michael Moore. See it for yourself. * * * August 12, 2004 I certainly hope John Kerry has a "plan" for challenging a skewed election! I hope he won't cede an election because the Repugs fight dirtier, won't leave the electorate in a lurch and will fight however long it takes. We cannot survive four more years of the moron. When democracy is undermined and ripped from the hands of the voters, then someone, somewhere should have the cajones to demand justice and not accept a selection made by the Supreme Court. * * * There are those who worry about what can happen between now and election time, given that the masters of dirty politics don't want to cede power to the challenger John Kerry. We can expect the dirtiest, most underhanded race ever in these United States. To all those 5,000 minority journalists who attended the Unity 2004 Convention, I issue a plea: Don't allow mainstream media to air misleading statements and erroneous copy without countering it with the truth. If America is to guarantee equal opportunity for all people, then those who seek to undermine our freedoms must be stopped. If this nation is to prevail, we must be able to trust a truly fair and balanced media, have a free and fair election, and regain the confidence of the people. * * * DEBATES! HA, how do you DEBATE a moron? The debate monitors better check George's ears for a bug. You know, the one that tells him "err, uhh," what to say? This would be another thigh slapping humorous production if not for the fact there are those who believe it to be an actual debate between Kerry and Bush. Our future depends on the outcome of these debates and on those biased television pundits who are so willing to give the "misunderestimated" moron the benefit of the doubt. Our future depends on John Kerry as President. * * * August 11, 2004 It is beyond my understanding how anyone with an iota of sanity left can question the veracity of those who served admirably alongside John Kerry. Perhaps the answer lies in Mr. Rassmann's statement: "When I surfaced, all the swift boats had left, and I was alone taking fire from both banks. To avoid the incoming fire, I repeatedly swam under water as long as I could hold my breath, ........ I thought I would die right there.....Kerry....directed his driver....to turn the boat around. Kerry's boat ran up to me in the water,...exposing himself to the fire....and pulled me aboard." Um, where were all those Swift Boat Vets for Bush who were -- they said -- 20 or 30 yards away? It appears that they were running like hell! * * * "Results matter," said George Bush. For once I agree with him! His failure to win the peace in Iraq and the resulting quagmire, the torture and abuse that occurred at Abu Ghraib, the more than 900 American soldiers and countless innocent Iraqis who are dead, his isolation of America, the outing of domestic and international covert agents necessary to the "war on terror," the unemployment and joblessness, the large number of children left behind, and the increasing number of Americans without healthcare are only a few of Bush's results. Results do matter and the results of George Bush's presidency are no benefit to America. Vote for John Kerry if you really respect Democracy! * * * One thing I've learned over the years is that when Jimmy Carter speaks out, it pays to listen. This is a man who has promoted peace all his life. He is an honorable man who rarely, if ever, speaks unkindly about anyone. So when he said, "Today our dominant international challenge is to restore the greatness of America based on telling the truth, a commitment to peace and a respect for civil liberties at home and basic human rights abroad. . . . Without truth, without trust, America cannot flourish. Trust is at the very heart of our democracy, the sacred covenant between a president and the people. When that trust is violated, the bonds that hold our republic together begin to weaken," I knew it was time for all Americans to heed his advice. *
* * While I firmly believe in Freedom of the Press, I also believe the press should be fair and unbiased, something we don't see or hear a whole lot of these days. I will get a great deal of pleasure in seeing Bob Novak, on the heels of Karl Rove, "frogmarched" into the slammer! * * * My grandmother used to say, "once a liar always a liar," and it still rings true today. The Arkansas State Trooper who earned $6700 for telling the American Spectator, so many years ago, that he arranged liasons for Bill Clinton, has been caught in a web of his own making once again. But, this time he has to pay! It's a lesson for those who would sell lies. Justice is sweet and she will creep up on you sometime or the other. * * * It really is Vietnam all over again. Instead of battling their opponents, Bush and Cheney are allowing others to fight for them! The Swift Boat Vets who released the anti Kerry ad were snookered again by the same chickenhawk weasels who sluffed off so many years ago. John O'Neil and his cohorts are just too dumb to realize they're being used and abused by George, Dick, and Karl! * * * August 9, 2004 How bout them apples? Repuglican National Convention Delegates who are afraid to release their names, for reasons of "security, err privacy"! Now that's a good example of bold brave leadership, don'tcha think? A group of delegates who are so afraid they won't even reveal their identities. But then I suppose if I were supporting the Bushies, I probably wouldn't want anyone to know it either -- not out of fear, but just plain bald-faced embarrassment! * * * If you want to know how much the Bush administration really cares about the troops, take a long hard look at the military personnel facing charges in the Abu Ghraib scandal! This administration is willing to allow a few "grunts" to take the blame for atrocities ordered by their superiors! The administration's belief that "the end justifies the means" has permeated everything they touch, and the American military is no exception! Sooner or later, saner thinking must prevail if America is to be that shining example we were before the era of George Bush! * * * There
are occasions when retired Generals can reveal to the whole world the
truth. For example, Tommy Franks tells the BBC that
Douglas Feith is "the
dumbest f*****g guy on the planet," adding, "From
time to time, the Washington bureaucracy reminds me of cats fighting in
a sack." If you don't believe General
Franks, try listening to the retired Generals and Admirals who, at the
DNC convention, endorsed
John Kerry and denounced the Bush administration! |
