A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). We'll collect a week's worth here and then archive them. Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons. May 21, 2004 How long will it take the Repuglicans to realize they are all beginning to look just like George Bush -- incompetent, arrogant, and just plain wrong? The America I knew and grew up in was not about preemptive war, chaos and confusion, death and destruction, "shock and awe," kill or be killed, domestic upheaval and religious zealotry. It has become a conglomeration of these horrific conditions thanks to George Bush and those who would support his inane policies! * * * Right wing ditto heads are now attempting to blame Bush's mess in Iraq on the Democrats. A quote from Tony Blankley: "It is heartbreaking, though no longer perplexing, that the president's political and media opposition want the president's defeat more than America's victory." It's all a matter of perception -- I would say defeating George Bush is VICTORY! * * * When I attended Catholic School, I was taught by the nuns and priests in our parish that God indeed had granted me the right to chose, right or wrong, grace or sin! It seems though, some Catholic Bishops would like to rescind that right; at least they would like to take it away from the politicians who would follow God's direction and vote for a woman's right to chose! Now, I hardly think that those who allowed little children to be molested are in a position to outrank God, but then there are some who are so drunk on power these days they do believe themselves holier than God! Refusing communion to someone who follows the edicts of God is disgustingly pathetic! * * * May 20, 2004 The day George Bush and his administration decided to change the name of POW's to "detainees," ignore the Geneva Convention, and open Guantanamo as a prison, was the day that prisoner torture and abuse was sanctioned in the U.S. Military! We can continue to go backwards up the "chain of command," seeking to assign accountability, but frankly, it is my opinion a lot of time could be saved by starting at the top where it all began! Granted, there's a whole bunch of legal mumbo jumbo designed to thwart criminal intent and cover the asses of those who sanctioned these atrocities, but it is also my opinion that common sense tells us George Bush okayed that which is morally and criminally wrong. Bush okayed the abuse and torture of vulnerable people and this "buck" started with him! * * * I hardly think Dennis Hastert is in a position to criticize John McCain, much less give advice on anything regarding War and/or its consequences. The Repuglican ChickenHawks make fools of themselves on a daily basis. Hastert should be called on to apologize for his ridiculous statements, especially since his knees weren't up to service in Vietnam, yet were fine for college-level wrestling. Conversely, John McCain was one of the heroes of Vietnam and knows the sacrifices of War firsthand! * * * Mainstream media's reverse psychology fails! The attempt was to place doubt on the U.N. while reporting that "we don't know who Iraqi sovereignty will be turned over to June 30," but instead has cast doubt where it belongs -- on George Bush. I love it when their devious methods backfire. I love it when the American public is savvy to what's really happening. George Bush is an imbecile and does not possess the capability to direct brushing his teeth, much less a war on terror, and the general public knows it! * * * May 19, 2004 If you thought the Bush administration really cared about our troops, then think again. The complaints of soldiers returning from Iraq -- with signs and symptoms of uranium exposure, -- were ignored. While the use of Depleted Uranium in weaponry may be considered modern technological genius on the battlefield, it is hazardous to the health of our soldiers and the civilians left in it's insidious aftermath. Does the Bush administration and the top brass in the military think the resulting ill health will just go away? What benefits can be derived from a country turned into a wasteland of radioactivity? Oh, excuse me, I forget, this administration is interested only in the acquisition of Iraqi oil. * * * Way back when I said an ICD is an intracardiac defibrillator, a small device implanted in a patient to render a "shock" to the heart in the event of lethal arrhythmia. This is considered a major last ditch effort in a very sick heart. Some of the newer devices also have "pacemaker" capabilities as insurance to stimulate a regular heartbeat in case the diseased heart does not regain it's capacity to initiate a beat on it's own. I've heard repeatedly about Mr. Cheney's so called "pacemaker", but finally we are getting a more accurate report of just what he really has implanted. I would question that he's stepping down because he's so loyal to Bush -- I'm wondering if Mr. Cheney sees the sinking ship and has decided to get out before the axe falls on the alleged criminal activity occurring in this administration? * * * The Masters of Scam, the Purveyors of Lies, the Bush administration -- drum roll please -- "Secretary Donald L. Evans stopped in Daytona Beach to attend a large prayer meeting where he praised Mr. Bush as "a leader you can trust 100 percent of the time." Yesiree bobtail, you can trust 100 percent that he's telling you one thing while doing another. The irony is they have the cajones to make this proclamation at a "prayer" meeting. Somehow, I don't think it's GOD whose smiling down on George and the gang. Anyone who would be arrogant enough to go before a "prayer" meeting and lie by omission would be more apt to receive praise from Beelzebub. * * * May 18, 2004 Face it America, you've been handed nothing more than one really big farce, a pile of s--t, as my grandmother would say. George Bush is actually a creation of evil doers who are inebriated with power. They've managed to present a mass produced image of Bush to America. They've kept protests corralled in "zones," his speeches presented as though "grass roots," but are invitation-only audiences with applause prompters. "Press conferences" are in fact orchestrated productions and foreign visits have pre-arranged conditions attached, all with a "bug" in his ear to cover up incompetence when his limited brain power leaves him unable to respond. His State of the Union messages are infested with lies and the mainstream media seem intimidated and bribed to support policy and stay on message, etc. etc. etc. Yes sirree, this is an Oscar-winning, behind the scenes production made in the USA for American consumption. A real tragedy. * * * I would suggest that when Rush Limbaugh is finally convicted for alleged drug abuse, the prosecutors should arrange to send him to Abu Ghraib. He seemingly would appreciate the favor and may even arrange a plea bargain, especially since he seems to think it a fraternity Rush party. Perhaps he could even convince Rumsfeld and Bush that future broadcasts should be aired from inside the razor wire surrounding the prison grounds. It would be a first-hand account of the fun and games conducted by the guards. Now, that would be justice well served. * * * One can only hope that Colin Powell remembers that his first loyalty belongs to America. It's about time for him to quit dancing the questionable Bush waltz and begin to realize this administration is nothing but trouble for us. It's time to say to hell with supporting those who would abandon our country, our troops, and everything decent and moral in order to further their own personal agenda, which is definitely not in the best interests of the American people. Stand up, Mr. Powell, for the values you profess to believe, for the country you say you believe in, and for what's right! * * * May 17, 2004 Are we, the American people, so gullible that we would again believe the same people who smeared Joe Wilson for telling the truth about the "yellow-cake" from Niger? Are we going to stake our lives and our futures on this bunch of liars? The enlisted personnel, the last ones on the end of a complicated convoluted secret chain of command, are telling us they acted on orders from superior officers. The General in Charge tells us she was told not to go to certain sections of the prison. Are we now supposed to believe the same guys who told us they had no warnings regarding 9-11, that Iraq and Al Qaeda were connected, and that we were in imminent danger from Saddam Hussein? I, for one, don't believe a word that comes from this administration or any of their supporters, and I am disgusted with those who do. * * * I ask those who proclaim George Bush a bold brave leader: If he can't protect the acting President of the Iraqi Governing Council, one man, Abdel-Zahraa Othman, also known as Izzadine Saleem, how in God's name can we expect him to protect the rest of us? The incompetence of George Bush is putting the whole world at risk. If, indeed, we are concerned for safety and security, then we must demand leadership that is capable of providing it. * * * CNN, specifically the cast of American Morning, does the people of this country a disservice when they attempt to bolster only the White House's version of the Abu Ghraib scandal. If they believe they are portraying hard-nosed investigative reporters, rather than dittoheads who read the teleprompter, I am here to inform them, we know the difference between those who would report the news and those who are about the business of mimicking FOX NEWS. Oh for the days of Ted Turner, when CNN was truly a purveyor of the truth in news 24 hours a day. |
