A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). We'll collect a week's worth here and then archive them. Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons. April 23, 2004 Tami Silicio wanted the mothers and families of soldiers who lost their lives in Bush's war to know their loved ones were being treated with the caring decency their sacrifice deserved. No load 'em up and ship 'em out here. Because she is a mother who knows the pain of loss, Tami wanted to reassure the families here at home that the remains of these young men and women were receiving the honor they more than earned. Only in Bush's America could Tami Silicio lose her job for exhibiting an overwhelming compassion for those who lost their lives and for their family members. As expected from "business according to Bush," Tami's husband was also fired in what could only be called an act of revenge. * * * If you thought George Bush was compassionate, then think again! Here he is, with his hand in your pocket again, in order to make the rich richer. By allowing corporate companies to cut health care benefits for retirees when they become eligible for Medicare, Bush allows the profits to go back to those same corporations. From your pocket, to the insurance industry pedaling supplemental insurance, goes the funds from your retirement! It's a good deal for the rich and bad for elderly "Joe Public." Note: The AARP objects, apparently, because "The new rule creates a potentially explosive political issue, because it will create anxiety for many of the 12 million Medicare beneficiaries who also receive health benefits from their former employers." And maybe, just maybe, they're worried George might lose the election! * * * It is my opinion that the flack regarding the 9-11 Commission and Jamie Gorelick is a pre-meditated, intentional move to cast doubt on the Commissions findings, just in case these findings reveal the truth. And in case you haven't noticed, it's the Repuglicans who are screaming, in their attempt to denigrate the Commission. Hmmm, I wonder why? Could it be they are afraid the public will finally wake up and realize the Bushies were either asleep at the wheel, or very busy ignoring the threats, and hoping for a real reason to wage war on Iraq? * * * April 22, 2004 Four more years of Bush most certainly means a "Draft" and endless wars. The more than 700 Flag Draped Coffins are only the beginning if Bush and Cheney are allowed to continue their reign of terror on the world. Our country cannot hope to survive if this bunch believes they have a mandate to continue the march on world domination. As Robert Reich said, "Nothing is more dangerous to a republic than fanatics unconstrained by democratic politics. Yet in a second term of this administration, that's exactly what we'll have." * * * I wonder if Ed Gillespie, chair of the RNC, realizes how absolutely ridiculous they sound in their latest attack on John Kerry? Questioning the validity of one of three Purple Hearts Senator Kerry received, as a result of wounds he endured serving his country in Viet Nam, is ludicrous! Note my emphasis on "ONE OF THREE!" While Bush was sitting on his butt in Alabama, dodging Democratic campaign slogans for a loser Repuglican, Senator Kerry was dodging real bullets in an all out war! Gillespie's pathetic attempt to smear Kerry shows how completely the Repuglican party have lost their minds! * * * Has George Bush turned Saddam over to the Iraqi courts? If not, without Weapons of Mass Destruction, exactly what charges can Bush bring against Saddam? What court would even hear a case based on the argument, "We attacked him because we thought he wanted to attack us"? What court would find legitimacy in bringing "shock and awe" down on a sovereign nation, because they had plans to have plans to have weapons of mass destruction? * * * April 21, 2004 VI. Thou shalt not kill. I realize George has a short attention span, but if he were really as religious as he claims, you'd think he would have read these commandments. * * * Every time a rock is turned over we find questionable activity by Bush/Cheney. Sooner or later "Joe Public" will have to face reality! George and Dick have the nerve to spout the virtues of patriotism while sending our young men and women to die in an unnecessary war, where innocent civilians are dying by the thousands (how many more mass graves can Iraqis endure?). It's time for Congress to step up to the plate and do the job they were hired to do. It's time for some investigative oversight. It's time to put partisanship aside and for our representatives to become the statesmen they imagine themselves to be. It's time to end the illegitimate regime in Washington. Impeach the thief. * * * A collage showing remarks made by Bush and officials in his administration presented in a campaign ad should read: "Weapons
of Mass Destruction," NO George Bush is WRONG on the War in Iraq and he's Wrong for the office of the president of the United States! Give them back some of their own medicine. We all know George cannot stand the truth! * * * April 20, 2004 Only when the policies of the Bush administration affect them directly do people realize what is really happening in the United States. Only when personal loss is involved do they begin to realize the Bush administration does not smile favorably on you unless you are a bazzzillionaire. Where was the outcry when blue-collar workers lost their benefits and their jobs? Blue or white, most people go to work to put in an honest day's labor for an honest day's pay -- unless you are George W. Bush, whose life is a taxpayer-funded vacation. * * * When those who have dedicated their careers to government service realize their first allegiance is to the American people, then, and only then, can they claim honorable statesmanship. They are obliged to tell the truth, to protect the people of this country, and to do what's in the best interests of the people. Until they realize their first loyalty is to the country and it's people, not to some jerk who wants to be dictator, then they will have fulfilled their responsibility. * * * It's a bait and switch -- gas prices will be lowered to effect a win for Bush in November! While there is much that can be debated in this revelation, there were many other points made in the Woodward book that were far more damning, some possibly criminal! One that jumps out is the $700 million used for war planning that was not appropriated by the United States Congress. If lying was considered a criminal acts for past administrations, then the lies told by this administration, in order to wage war, amount to more years in prison than years left in our lifetime! * * * April 19, 2004 When Tom DeLay accuses anyone else of "mudslinging," a trait, by the way, which he has perfected. This tactic shows the arrogance and desperation that exists in the Repuglican Party today and provides a perfect example of how, when they are desperate, they will do anything to achieve their goals! He is without scruples. When he senses a loss of power, he will ruin the reputations of whoever gets in his way, including members of his own party! * * * As a nurse, I have always known my first responsibility was the care of the patients entrusted to me -- no matter what. If I ignored that responsibility, then I was no longer a nurse. Gen. Tommy Franks would do well to remember that his first responsibility is to the people of America, not to be an obedient soldier and blindly follow orders from his boss. This is especially so when he knows those orders are flawed and will be detrimental to the American people and worldwide community. He should have known that telling the American people the truth would have saved the lives of thousands of innocent human beings, including American soldiers. God knows he certainly had enough experience to recognize the outcome of Bush's folly. * * * The White House attack machine has begun a smear campaign. It is an intricate dance with the mainstream media concerning how to absolve George and blame everyone else for the fiasco they call the "Iraqi Liberation." They want to make Bush a hero and create the illusion that George Tenet et al are really the ones responsible. This political gamesmanship would be interesting if it were not for the fact that "shock and awe" resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent Iraqis and over 600 American soldiers. Life altering tragic consequences are the burdens borne by thousands of people worldwide because of Bush's folly. No matter how hard they try, they can't cover it up! |
