A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). We'll collect a week's worth here and then archive them. Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons. March 5, 2004 It takes more than patriotic pictures, flag waving, and soothing music to make a president! It takes more than satirical speeches, before invited audiences, to command respect. It takes integrity, honesty, intelligence, and a true desire to uphold democracy. It takes a man or woman who is genuinely compassionate about the human condition, someone who recognizes that jobs and self respect are important, and that family, whatever it's composition, is the basis for a progressive society! What isn't warranted is a bullying, war mongering, self-absorbed, afraid of dissent, not willing to admit a mistake, chickenhawk isolationist, spoiled child of affluent parents, not having a clue, conservative, moron. * * * Somehow, the man who scurried off to a Nebraska hidey hole on 9-11 isn't what's being shown in the current Bush campaign ads. The truth is, the man we see in the ads is the same guy who donned a "flight suit" to land on that aircraft carrier off the coast of California! He's the same farcical puppet the GOP would like the American public to believe is brave and bold. Nothing is sacred to this bunch of thieves; nothing is out of bounds or off limits. They will use the memories of the true heroes of 9-11 and the Iraqi war in an attempt to portray the moron as something he's not! * * * "I remember the day, Sept. 14, 2001, when I stood in the ruins of the World Trade Center and the workers were shouting whatever it takes," so says George Bush! The problem -- he was 3 days late and a whole lot of dollars short! The saddest part of all of this, is Bush believes the speeches that have been written for him to deliver. Bush is beginning to look like Reagan for sure, like when Ronnie began to think the movie roles he played were for real. Then again, standing at Ground Zero with a bullhorn in his hand, surrounded by enough Secret Service, firemen, and policemen to insure he was safe from any harm, may have been the bravest thing Bush has ever done! * * * March 4, 2004 You're damn right I'm angry! I'm mad because the SCOTUS stole my vote, because an unelected president has sought to undermine my country, because warnings of a terrorist attack were unheeded and resulted in the tragedy of 9-11, because the victims and their families are being exploited for political gain, because civil rights and civil liberties have been undermined, because American soldiers and innocent Iraqis are dying in an unnecessary war, because we the American people were told lies so this administration could wage that war, because workers don't have jobs, because health care insurance is unaffordable and over 40 million Americans live without it, and because this administration uses fear to promote their agenda. I have good reason to be angry and no amount of pious self-righteous indignity from a bunch of thieves is going to take my right to be angry from me! * * * Attempting to justify George Bush's misuse of the 9-11 tragedy is so like the Bushies -- crass, crude, and rude! They exploit the vulnerable for political gain! It just goes to show you that money can't buy class, no matter how hard they try. * * * Karen Hughes and the rest of the Bush Bulldogs are out and about debasing John Kerry! And yes, Bush, in three and a half short years, has accomplished far more than can ever be attributed to John Kerry, like the lies Bush told about Weapons of Mass Destruction, about providing American soldiers with everything they need, about Mission Accomplished, about not nation building, about being the world's police, about showing up for Guard duty in Alabama, about the No Child Left Behind bill, about letting the states decide gay marriage rights, about being elected to office, etc. etc. etc. The Kerry Record, two decades in the making, hasn't ever accomplished anything even close to this Bush Record! * * * March 3, 2004 I voted! I was disappointed to learn only about 20% of the electorate turned out for the vote! Please, if you are interested in the safety and security of your future and the future of your children, get out and vote! It only took approximately 20 minutes, from beginning to end, front door of my home to front door of my home! * * * Contrary to what George Bush is telling us, several wrongs don't make a right! He'd like you to believe that killing innocent people with "shock and awe" is the noble thing to do, but your heart knows it's WRONG! He'd like you to believe that we have a thriving economy, but when you've been laid off, you know he's WRONG! He'd like you to believe that he's "leaving no child behind," but you know he's WRONG! He'd like you to believe that he's providing prescription drugs for seniors, but when you still have to choose between food and drugs, you know he's WRONG! He'd like you to believe that he's providing safety and security, but when he underfunds the protective services, you know he's WRONG! He'd like you to believe that he's doing everything to create jobs, but when he encourages outsourcing, you know he's WRONG! He'd like you to believe that he was elected to the office, but when Al Gore got more votes than he did, you know he's WRONG! I could go on and on, but you get the picture. There is nothing compassionate or truthful about this conservative. Bush is a disgrace to humanity and his brand of politics should definitely come to an end. * * * It never ceases to amaze me -- CNN is blasting out Breaking News that multiple explosions in Iraq killed numerous people and injured many more; in a separate incident, one US soldier is dead and one is wounded; then George Bush appears on the tube telling his invited audience that "We're winning the war on terra." It seems like we're living in some weird perverted "Twilight Zone" when the moron says one thing while the exact opposite is happening. My God, please help us try and return to a more normal version of reality! * * * March 2, 2004 As long as the mainstream "liberal" myth continues, and the people who make big bucks fawn over George Bush because they are afraid of losing their jobs, our democracy will be in jeopardy. I cannot say it enough, Thank God for the Internet, BuzzFlash, and all those web sites that willingly bring the truth to America! Without them we would, in essence, be just another third world country believing only what we are told. The Office of Disinformation is alive and well, but so is the Internet's Truth and Democracy! * * * George Bush "misunderestimated" the quagmire he created in Iraq. Weapons of mass destruction have not been found, but death and destruction continues everyday. His inexperience and lack of intelligence have created nothing more than chaos and confusion. Liberating the dead doesn't benefit anyone. * * * "My colleagues, every statement I make today is backed up by sources, solid sources. These are not assertions. What we're giving you are facts and conclusions based on solid intelligence. I will cite some examples, and these are from human sources," said Secretary of State Colin Powell, providing justification for invading Iraq. Where oh where are the WMD's? "He was not kidnapped. We did not force him onto the airplane. He went onto the airplane willingly. And that's the truth," Powell said Monday, regarding President Aristide of Haiti. Somehow it's impossible to believe there's any truth left in this administration. How in God's name can anyone believe them. Faced with men in uniform carrying guns, told we will not protect you, that it will be a blood bath, and you, your family, and thousands of Haitians will die, was not a coup carried out in the name of the United States of America against democracy? * * * March 1, 2004 It will take more than "Tweaking the Format" to improve The Dennis Miller show. CNBC would do well to make Dennis Miller's hiatus permanent. Having devoted my time to viewing one show, I have concluded it was a waste! His sarcasm and mean-spirited commentary cannot be considered even close to funny, but rather a desperate attempt, via via copious Bush ass-kissing, to revive an otherwise dead career. He's had his 15 minutes of infamy. It would be compassionate of the conservatives to allow him to fade back into mediocrity. * * * After watching George Bush's impromptu comments discussing Haiti on the White House lawn yesterday, I have come to the conclusion that the man literally has a bug in his ear telling him what to say in any given situation. That is because he doesn't have a clue! The rapid word speak in-between the errs and ahhs, along with the blank look in his eye, is a dead give away. I can't understand how anyone can continue to think he knows what he's doing. No, I have not "misunderestimated" him, the man is a moron who doesn't even have the talent to put on a good act! * * * I do not agree with mainstream media's representation of George Bush's nice guy persona. Everything I've ever read or observed indicates just the opposite -- he is a pompous, arrogant, spoiled child of an affluent family that doted on him! Contrary to what Poppy and Barb would have you believe, it is my opinion he was brought up in a permissive environment, allowed to get away with anything, while his parents excused his behavior, which resulted in an adult without a conscience. His charm and guile (a tear here and a tear there) are a ruse to get what he wants, when he wants. When he can't get what he wants using charm and guile, he is quite capable of lying, cheating, and stealing. Sorry folks, I don't see a regular nice guy when I see George Bush! * * * Everyone's condemning Howard Stern. I heard one conservative talk show hostess say, "It's about time they enforce regulations, Howard Stern's brand of broadcasting is offensive!" If that's a guideline to censure someone, I'm here to suggest that it's all about perspective. I resent the conservative talk show host's brand of broadcasting and the arrogance of witnessing in order to save my soul and tell me how to worship God, so I don't listen to her program and, if I see her on the tube, I use the remote and click to another channel. I'm not a fan of Howard, but I'm sure there are some who are, and they deserve the choice to listen or not. I don't care for conservative mainstream media because all channels support that guy, Bush, who is the boob in the tube. That's the reason why the TV sits mute and I get my news from BuzzFlash and the internet! | ||||||
