FAQ

A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). We'll collect a week's worth here and then archive them. Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons.

Oh, those self-righteous, moralistic, Bible toting Repuglicans. You know the ones -- the thieves, the gropers, the drug addicts, the cheaters, the intimidators, the snake oil salesmen, and all the rest of the Repuglicans who tell the rest of us how to live our lives while leading lives of rank hypocrisy. Just when is America going to wake up and say enough already and boot them back from whence they came?

The tactics that give politics and politicians a dirty name surely include exploiting a defenseless group of people for purely political motives. George Bush has shamelessly gone after the Latino vote, knowing full well his proposals do absolutely nothing for immigrants. It's all smoke and mirrors. Does Bush plan to call this non-initiative, "No illegal immigrant left behind"? This is his idea of compassionate conservatism? Compassionate? I don't think so!

There are those who have never experienced the horrors of war, yet promote "shock and awe" with glee and daring. There are others who have lived the results of war first hand and who tell us there must be another way, in this, the 21st Century, to solve disputes. There must be a saner solution to man's indignities to man than that found in the minds of some less intelligent men. Guns, bullets, and bombs are not the answer. Listen to the sages who believe we can and we must learn to "do unto others as we would have done to us."

A note to illegal immigrants: before you trust George Bush to give you the keys to the country, you better check to see if he really means what he says. Remember, this is an administration that does not always do what they promise. Some of the many unmet promises are "No Child Left Behind," "Prescription Drug Benefits for Seniors," "The Iraqis will meet us with flowers and song," and "Iraq will be able to pay for their reconstruction through oil revenues." Don't be surprised if, after the election, he deports you for being illegal!

Just caught Kelly Wallace on CNN proudly assuring the world that the press, Repuglicans, and Democrats are seriously digging into Howard Dean's past to see what they can dig up. It dawned on me that had the mainstream media fulfilled their duty to the American people and scrutinized George Bush's background, maybe our country would not be in the shape we are today and maybe over 400 US service people and thousands of innocent Iraqis would be home with their families and not dead because of a war based on lies.

Robert Novak will be the first to tell us he has been in the "news" business for a very long time. I contend that it would be the patriotic thing to do for Novak to retire right after he reveals the "senior administration official" who felt that intimidating Joe Wilson was more important than our National Security. If, indeed, Mr. Novak is as knowledgeable as he claims, then he was the first to know that revealing Valerie Plame's name was an spiteful act of revenge by the right wing liars who use whatever tactics they can to cover their misdeeds, including lying to the American public in order to go to war!

Many thanks to RNC chairman Ed Gillespie for bringing to the forefront the ads comparing Bush to Hitler and for getting those ads aired by the mainstream media. Without his cooperation, the ads might not have seen the light of day. While his point is that Bush is not Hitler, Gillespie's actions only magnify the similarities between the Bush administration and fascism, which helps us all remember that we must be ever vigilant if we are to avoid a recurrence of the Third Reich.

It is unfortunate that some people, who value their children above all else, are so willing to allow the Bush administration to put the health and well being of these same children in jeopardy. By changing air pollution rules to favor utilities companies, the future health of our children is compromised. Of course, this administration isn't worried, because, by then, most of them will have spent the monies realized and they will not be around to see the havoc they created.

Have Americans become so dumbed-down they forgot the May 2002 New York Post headline, "Bush Knew," and the May 19, 2002 UK Guardian headline, "Bush Knew of Terrorist Plot to Hijack US Planes"? Every time we hear the Radical Repuglican Right Wing say that "Bush is the only one who can keep us safe from a future terrorist attack," we need to remember that Bush knew about the first one -- Sept. 11 -- and did nothing to prevent it! He knew Osama bin Laden intended to strike us at home with everything he had, but the Bush administration ignored the warnings and Bush took a month's vacation in Crawford, Texas! Is it possible he chose to ignore those warnings in order to give impetus for invading Iraq? Could he have allowed over 3000 innocent people to die so that he could seek revenge against one man and personally profit from the war? God help us all!

Their are few people in this world who would forego a huge amount of money in order to stand for principle. Average citizens are again left with needing the courts to root out responsibility and accountability. I salute and thank Beverly Eckert, because in the end, her pursuit of justice for the death of her husband on Sept. 11 is a pursuit of justice for all of us.

For the life of me, I cannot understand how a bunch of pompous, moralistic, blow hards can convince the American public that lying about sex is an offense serious enough to impeach a president, while lying about going to war -- where American soldiers and innocent lives are lost -- is a mistake blessed by God! There is something to be said for that old saying, "Don't suffer fools gladly," or you may find yourself in hell!

"By golly, you deal in this stuff, you're going to jail for a long period of time." That's a quote from former Congressman Bill McCullum speaking to 60 Minutes on mandatory sentences for illegal drug users. I'm just wondering if mandatory sentences apply to Radical Right Wing Rich White Men Repuglicans or just to people who can't afford a lawyer? It's amazing where the lines are drawn -- the Rush Limbaughs of the world are to be pitied and sent to rehab, while Joe Blow's first offense gets him sent to the slammer for years!
