Barbara's
Daily BuzzFlash Minute |

A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). We'll collect a week's worth here and then archive them. Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons. November 14, 2003 It always strikes me as ironic when nothing more than political shills present themselves as esteemed journalists -- Bob Novak has for years been a magpie for anything the Repugs wanted out in the public eye for political reasons. I've often thought when listening to his interviews that perhaps his questions had been set up for plausible deniability. Now I know it's true, thanks to BuzzFlash's Guest Commentary by Kathleen Sullivan. * * * Here's a breaking news alert for CNN and all the other mainstream media channels who have their noses so far up Bush's butt that they refuse to see world wide sentiment: Bush is not only unpopular in Britain, he's unpopular everywhere. The only people who seem to agree with his policies are fundamentalist religious extremists, die hard Repuglican right wing nuts, and those he managed to bribe or threaten. Sane people know he's a disaster. Bush isn't capable of doing the job he stole. * * * Hmmmm, So the Brits refuse to stifle free speech and democracy for the dictator wannabe! Try as they might, the Bush handlers have not been as successful shutting people up in Britain as they have here in the United States. Whatcha wanna bet we won't be seeing a whole lot of protests from Britain. While the British refuse to stage a Bush production, mainstream media in the United States will see to it that the American people won't be privy to anything negative about Bush, no matter where it happens. Thanks to the moron, America is no longer the land of the free or the brave. * * * November 13, 2003 Hooray for the Brits! They may be able to pull off free speech and peaceful protests when Bush arrives in England -- something that is denied the citizens in the land of the free and the home of the brave. Protest Zones and arresting grandmothers and grandfathers for carrying signs of disagreement may not go well in London. Let's see how much self-control the moron has when the shit hits the fan, up front and center, before his very eyes. * * * You don't suppose Bush pulled the U.S. out of the International Criminal Court because he had a preconceived plan to attack Iraq and he was protecting his own ass from prosecution? No, this moron wouldn't have that much savvy. But, someone certainly did: the US is using depleted uranium on conventional weapons, the U.S. invaded another country without approval from the UN, and the prisons in Iraq, after being emptied, are now being refilled, only this time it's being done in the name of George Bush. Any wonder why the Iraqis don't want us there? * * * On reading the names and seeing the ages of some of the young men and women who have given their lives in service to their country and contemplating Veterans Day and the sacrifices made for us by these men and women in the United States military, I wondered what lame brain came up with the idea of dressing the moron in a flight suit so he could land on an aircraft carrier off the California coast. Bush's actions mock every mother's son who has ever worn the uniform with pride? I suppose whoever thought of it it was the same lame brain who fooled some of the American electorate into "misunderestimating" what a good president he'd make. Now that we all know he is a disaster for American interests, now that we know he's even lamer than the people who promoted his tenure, it's time to put an end to this charade. Impeach the thief, before he can do anymore damage to America. It's the only patriotic thing to do. * * * Doesn't surprise me to learn there were "pre-arranged" questions for the Democratic candidates at the "Rock the Vote Debate" on CNN. Clearly, in an attempt to discredit the Democrats, it was to remind the public of the "boxers or briefs" question asked of Bill Clinton. There was nothing relevant or even light and humorous about that inane question, "Mac or PC." CNN lost their credibility a long time ago, when they started sucking up to the current administration, for whatever the reason -- ratings, showmanship, loyalty, devotion, or perhaps an effort to support world domination and pre-emptive war. * * * November 12, 2003 Just the thought of a second Bush term is enough to make one want to vomit. If the first three years are an example of things to come, four more could send us into oblivion. Why does it take a chaotic quagmire for some Americans to see the light and realize they "misunderestimated" the damage Bush caused to our country and our lives? * * * For Jessica Lynch to tell the truth, it took the kind of courage and bravery we don't see in George W. Bush. It took real guts for her to tell her story. After watching her interview on the tube last night, I know Jessica is not the kind of person who could dress up in a flight suit, take a plane ride 30 miles off the coast of California to tell the world, "Mission Accomplished." I suppose Dumbya will either have the terror alert heightened, go into hiding in an undisclosed location, or vacation in Crawford until they can find something to remove the egg from his face and the yellow stripe down his back! * * * Isn't there something suspicious about why they couldn't or wouldn't get those intercept jets in the air on 9-11 and how fast they recently got them in the air? Doesn't the latest response time, when a private plane entered the White House "no fly zone," at least raise a question as to why it was impossible on that ill-fated day? America is not being told the truth regarding 9-11. This White House is covering up something and the victims' families, as well as the rest of us, deserve to know the truth. * * * November 11, 2003 Having worked for a time at a VA Hospital, I personally got to know some veterans from WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, and a few active duty personnel. They were patients in a system trying to fulfill the promises made to them for their service. I was witness to what acute injury and the long term effects of war can do to men and women (we had one lady who had served in the Army Nurse Corps and who had been injured at Pearl Harbor). To all the brave men and women in military service and to their families, I would like to say Thank You for the sacrifices you've made in serving our country and preserving our way of life. To the troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, and all across the world, I would give thanks and prayers for a safe return home on this Veteran's Day 2003. * * * War is the ultimate horror. When men foolishly abandon diplomacy and negotiation for combat, they should have to endure the horror they created. It's easy to be brave and spout rhetoric from behind a desk, when a chair is your saddle; not so easy when it's your rear end that's being targeted for the next bullet from the enemy's rifle. Yet, the men and women in our military, fulfilling their duty to America, are these targets every day. For this, they can thank George Bush, that man riding herd and fighting the battle from the White House, sitting in his recliner and shouting "bring 'em on." * * * Does anyone else find the timing of the Al-Qaida attacks very convenient for the Bush administration? It seems that every time Bush is dropping in the polls, Osama does all he can to energize Dumbya's poll numbers. It seems rather strange that terrorist attacks are gauged to build Bush's credibility for this war on terrorism. Hmmmm? * * * November 10, 2003 It's about time to put up or shut up. It's time to get our troops "outta harm's way." Either come up with a successful plan or bring the troops home! This administration knew there would be chaos in the aftermath. They knew the problems our military would face, the quagmire that it would become, but they proceeded anyway. There was no real thought given to the brave men and women who would die on foreign soil, no compassion shown for the "all volunteer" army -- after all none of their kids are there. The possibility of gaining all that oil and becoming rich on reconstruction was the driving force for the greedy, business as usual, Repuglican poachers in the White House. * * * Zell Miller is an ego-maniac. Upon arrival in Washington, realizing he was one among many and no one was paying attention to this rather funny looking guy with a forced southern drawl, he decided that morals and values be damned -- in order to get his mug on the tube, he started kissing Repuglican ass. That's the only way he could garner attention. He certainly isn't well known for his smarts or his savoir-faire -- he had to do something to be noticed and stroke his ego. So for those of us whom he has betrayed, I say to him, you're nothing more than an ass kisser. Now, to the press, if you leave the poor schmuck alone, he'll announce he's left that "old house" and become what he is at the moment, a true red Repuglican. Then no one will pay him any mind. (Wasn't red used to describe the Communists? Seems rather fitting to call the RED states Repuglican!). * * * Here in America, the moron gives us catch phrases like "Shock and Awe," "Dead or Alive," and "Bring 'em on." From England, Professor Baxi said, there is "evidence to suggest that the government misled the country has to be scrutinised very carefully if democracy, transparency and honesty are to be respected." Now tell me who's the wiser? | |||||
