Barbara's
Daily BuzzFlash Minute |
|||||
A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). We'll collect a week's worth here and then archive them. Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons. September 19, 2003 MEMO to all GENERALS and ADMIRALS in the service of the United States of America --Remember that when you salute and show respect for the Office of this presidency, you are paying homage to a man who avoided combat duty in service of his country during Viet Nam and you are bolstering his belief that he deserves your respect even though he was AWOL from the National Guard. He's smirking at you, because again, he's gotten away with something! * * * George Bush isn't worth the sweat off my butt in the middle of August, so why would anyone believe the losses we are suffering, the deaths of our young men and women in Iraq, are a necessity? Why in God's name would any sane person think that "shock and awe" equals a "bold Bush"? When war is used for political gain, as the people in this administration used war, it should tell you how deranged these people are! I am sick to death of their boasting, I'm fed up with mainstream media's window dressing, and I want our elected officials to stop this madness that has descended on us like the plague. * * * Are they thinking, if we tell enough lies, maybe someone will believe us? Cheney tells one story, then Rumsfeld and Bush tell another, while Powell says they're all telling the truth. This is the most confused bunch of used up politicians to ever grace the halls of government -- right is left, left is right, moderate when it's convenient. Sounding confused is the point -- perhaps no one will figure it all out. Welcome to the world of Bush. This is your brain and it's just plain fried. * * * September 18, 2003 As I read the story of a young soldier killed in Iraq, written by his mom, I can't help but think the man, who sent this boy to war and supports an American "Image" in Iraq, requires so much "protection" that even here at home peaceful protestors carrying signs, not guns, are relegated to "zones"! Apparently the powers that be think it's OK for our sons, daughters, husbands, and wives to go unprotected in a war zone, but Bush requires the ultimate protection even from those who would speak freely in America. * * * Being a "southern" gentleman, something many southern politicians no longer know about, is Wesley Clark's only negative. I hope his military training and his passion for the people of America will come through, because he has entered the biggest battle of his life and it will take "all he can be" to save America from the Radical Repuglican Guard. * * * September 17, 2003 Whatever happened to Michael Scott Speicher, the MIA Navy pilot? We've heard very little about him in the six months that the US has been in Iraq. This administration is despicable, to have used the emotions of a family and this country. There isn't a thread of decency in a group of politicians who would build the hopes of a family and a nation in order to justify a war. * * * "KICK BUSH OUT THE DOOR IN 2004!" That's my new campaign slogan for the upcoming race for the presidency. My God, people, when a man stands before you and says we need to fortify the military and spends 87 billion of our dollars, one would hope the young men and women of America would not have to write a Christmas list for mom to send night vision goggles, GPS systems, 2-way radios, and even proper foot wear. Who's benefiting from the big bucks? Certainly not our troops. Halliburton must have some really big payoffs to make for those no bid contracts. * * * If one is to believe the polls, the Repuglican argument regarding Clark's late entry won't fly! If indeed 60% of Democrats can't name a single candidate running for office, then I'd say Wesley Clark's entry is just in time! I'd also say, seeing as how the trash talk from the right is so swift and vehement, the Repugs are verrrry uncomfortable that Clark has entered the race. Shall we say they are scared to death? * * * September 16, 2003 In his quest to search every area of our lives, John Ashcroft is the epitome of "peeping toms." He's asking us to spy on our neighbors and report to him, he wants to know what you're reading at the library, and just who you're emailing on the internet. He can claim patriotism and attempt to drape it in a blue flag, but the fact is he is nothing more than a perverted peeping tom and just another Radical Repuglican! * * * Having read in the morning papers that CNN has changed the general manager of US programming, I am hoping CNN has decided to return to an objective presentation of the truth. I am hoping they have decided to abandon their attempts to "mimic" FOX. If CNN really wants to win the ratings war and be the "most trusted name in news," they will cease and desist their current bias to the right! * * * "Bring 'em on," "Mission Accomplished," "Dead or Alive," "...better in Iraq than here in America," "We don't need the UN" -- all sound like challenges rather than exemplifying bold leadership! But what can you expect from an immature frat boy wanted to invade Iraq even before he stole the presidency? * * * September 15, 2003 Every once in a while a journalist will emerge who tells the truth. Christiane Amanpour has the courage to tell the world how this administration intimidated mainstream media. It's time we, the people, show our support for these journalists. Thank You, Ms. Amanpour, please continue your efforts to get the truth out there. We need more journalists with your courage and devotion to the truth. * * * No matter how they spin and weave the web, the facts continue to emerge -- George Bush's war was based on lies and innuendo. No matter how much they wish the Iraqi people had greeted us with flowers and song, we are still seen as unwanted occupiers by the Iraqi people. No matter how much the Bush administration fantasizes, our troops are still caught in a quagmire of guerilla warfare and terrorist strikes. It truly is time to change the tone in Washington. It's time to bring some sanity back to government. It's time for Bush to go! * * * "Once a thief always a thief!" The truth of those words is evident in George W. Bush. He stole an election in November 2000 and he's been stealing from the American people ever since. He stole our safety and security by ignoring intelligence on 9-11, resulting in the theft of the lives of over 3000 innocent people; he stole a record surplus and turned it into a record deficit; he stole the money that goes to benefits that make this country the greatest in the world and gave it to the rich; and he's stealing taxes to rebuild a country he destroyed. He'll continue to steal from us as long as he can! * * * Much to the chagrin of Repuglicans, conservatives, and the mainstream media, Bill Clinton continues to garner the respect and love of the American people. Try as they will, these guys cannot steal the Clinton popularity. He worked hard and gave us peace and prosperity as never before seen in the history of this country. I applaud you President Clinton, I respect you, and I wish to God we had your intelligence guiding our country instead of that Doofus in Washington today! | |||||
