FAQ

A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). We'll collect a week's worth here and then archive them. Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons.

August 22, 2003

This Alabama Ten Commandments fiasco only goes to show how very wise the forefathers of this country were when they wrote a "separation of church and state" into the Constitution. While religious values may be the invisible thread that binds our laws, it is best to leave it invisible, because once the line is crossed there will be no end to all the varied interpretations of God's law. Do these people really want to return to a time when stoning was the justice meted out for an adulterer?

IT'S YOUR MONEY AND HE'S SPENDING IT! George W. Bush is spending your money so his friends and family will profit. He has no intention of sharing the "spoils of war" with the Iraqi people or any one of the esteemed United Nations. He is funneling your taxes into rebuilding Iraq by companies of his choosing: Halliburton, Bechtel, and various holdings of the Carlyle Group. It is a fallacy to say he cares about American military personnel risking their lives. Because of Bush's greed and arrogance, he is not willing to call on the United Nations or NATO for support in Iraq. He wants to have his cake and eat it, too. As our soldiers die one by one, he is off on jaunts to raise more money to aid in a continuance of this reign of terror. Save Our Soldiers, RECALL BUSH!

God help this administration when the American people finally wake up to the fact that Dumbya has been nothing more than an expensive farce produced by Karl and mainstream media. Dumbya is inexperienced and incapable of performing the job he coveted! He had to lie, cheat, and steal in order to march on Washington and he had to lie and cheat to order a march into Iraq. His whole personae has been a fabrication from the very beginning.

Radical Repuglicans have a strategy -- Divide and Conquer! Allow Arnold to believe he has the party backing and say a few nice things to get his campaign on the road. His celebrity should divide the liberal vote. Then, they'll undermine him with a few scandals and questions regarding his loyalties, and quietly alert the party faithful to follow orders and vote for the White House choice for governor: an ultra conservative slime ball. That's the only way the Radicals can win an election. Karl's tactics are really quite obvious. Why do you think he sent Mindy to California?

Mothers and Grandmothers in America -- if we continue to allow Dumbya and his administration to misbehave, if we continue to allow a belligerent, isolationist attitude to prevail within the Repuglican party, then get ready to send your sons and daughters to defend a war waged for personal greed and revenge. It's only logical that a DRAFT will be instituted if America cannot get a strong coalition of allies. It stands to reason that a "freedom fries" and "bring 'em on" attitude will neither win friends nor influence anyone. It's time to realize these guys have created an environment of death and destruction for our kids.

For all those who believe sanctions and containment won't work and pre-emptive war is the answer -- the United States and our allies waged a Cold War with Russia and the Soviet Union for 50 years, and ultimately won! The Middle-East has been fraught with pre-emptive wars for 50 years and continues to fight more fiercely than ever!

Ever notice how there's always a war when Repuglicans are in office? Ever notice they need a war in order to claim prowess? From Grenada to Iraq, the Repuglicans have had to have a war and, if the current war is a reflection of their abilities, I don't think they are very good at it.

Mainstream media has become nothing more than Hypocritical Hype! You know it's so when you hear FOX spouting "Fair and Balanced," or when CNN touts, "The News You Can Trust"! FOX is neither fair nor balanced and the whole world knows that network prefers to spew moral rhetoric while promoting salacious scandal. CNN, once a purveyor of objective 24 hour news, seems to have become the right arm of the White House's Office of Disinformation. Americans are finding they are not getting the truth or the news from mainstream media -- the airwaves are full of Karl's version of journalism.

If another "senior administration official" tells me that the American lives lost in Iraq are "not really a significant number," I am going to scream! Any life lost, in a war waged on lies and under false pretenses, is one life too many! Any life lost, because the jerks in this administration didn't plan for the aftermath of winning the peace, is one life too many. The lives of our soldiers are significant and should never become the statistics of a war formulated by the fat cats in Washington who sit safely on their fat asses in an air-conditioned office perched in a leather chair! These lives are the sons and daughters of America and they deserve the respect and recognition they have not received from this administration. They do not deserve to become "not really a significant number."

The current Repuglican catchphrase to eliminate the heat coming from the blackout: It's a "wake up call." If I've heard it once, I've heard it a thousand times over the weekend, coming from Bush and company, right on down through the ranks. By the way, they've also tried to blame this one on Bill, too. Thank God someone in the Democratic party anticipated the blame game, and told the truth about the Repuglican party blocking the Clinton administration's attempts to pass legislation to upgrade the antiquated grid system. Alas and alack -- the truth is the Bush administration, along with the Repugs, ignored the problem for Kenny boy and the rest of the energy industry moguls.

Numbers don't lie. Someone needs to tell Karl and George that there are more poor people in America than rich. Every American has the right to vote, come November 2004, and the majority of Americans will not vote to re-elect someone who has made life unbearable and squeezes pennies from the poor to give to the rich. Call me liberal, call me a populist, in fact, call me whatever you want, but the numbers don't lie!

If, as the Repugs tell us, deficits are the standard basis for a RECALL, then we should start at the top, you know, up there where all America's budget woes started, with George Bush! Is this what the Repugs under Reagan were talking about when they said it will have a "trickle down effect"? At least, under Clinton, Americans were making enough money to pay their taxes and still enjoy some of life's pleasures. Now, the majority of us are wondering if we can pay for our next meal!
