Barbara's
Daily BuzzFlash Minute |

A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). We'll collect a week's worth here and then archive them. Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons. April 11, 2003 Do the Repugs have, on the ground in Iraq, special organizers for the purpose of uniting the conquered? You just have to know the Repugs are diligently at work organizing "grass roots" support when you see so many flattering pictures of the supreme liberator in the hands of citizens -- citizens who have been closed off from the rest of the world in a country ruled by a madman dictator. Where in the world did the Iraqis get all those pictures of George? Just wondering! * * * Another example of free speech and opinion stifled! A Hollywood executive was fired for saying -- about the upcoming mini-series "Hitler" -- "It basically boils down to an entire nation gripped by fear, who ultimately chose to give up their civil rights and plunged the whole nation into war," Ed Gernon said. "I can't think of a better time to examine this history than now." It is indeed a sad day for America when people are fired for merely suggesting that the U.S. government might not be acting in the country's best interests. * * * What has happened to America's conscience? What have we become when the schoolyard bully is a hero? How do we justify the immorality of killing innocent children in order to avenge the alleged assassination of Bush's father? What has happened to the God fearing, peace loving, people of a proud nation? Mob mentality has taken over. Compassion seems to have been thrown out with all the campaign bumper stickers. What began with theft, continues with insanity. * * * April 10, 2003 Suddenly WMD's were not the real reasons Bush invaded Iraq, it was regime change after all. Why do you think regime change was necessary? For the good of the Iraqi people??? What about all the other oppressed people in tyrannical nations? Oh, I forget, those people aren't living in countries that have the world's second largest oil reserve. * * * To all those who say they refuse to believe Bush invaded Iraq because of oil, did you believe the Supreme Court of the United States would install a man who lost the popular democratic vote in office? Did you believe this administration would deliberately ignore intelligence warnings of a terrorist attack? Did you believe the United States would ever preemptively attack another country without United Nations approval, using forged documents to support their goal? Did you believe the United States would have people with questionable backgrounds in government positions? Wake up, it's time to face reality and it ain't pretty. Our country is in the current condition because no one believed that a corrupt group of men and women would be so arrogant as to do whatever they want, whenever they want, and however they want. * * * The big question: Did Saddam get away to hide in a cave, like Osama? Is this another "it really doesn't matter" moment for the Bushies. It seems that Bush's fervently stated goals become irrelevant as soon as it's apparent they cannot be accomplished! * * * April 9, 2003 Oh, if only George W. Bush was as righteous and indignant over the plight of America. How refreshing it would be if he was beating the drums and thumping his chest over homelessness, the lack of healthcare, and the appalling conditions of the poor right here at home. Considering, he's already looted the US treasury via tax cuts for the wealthy and defense contracts for corporations, it now becomes necessary to look to foreign sources for ways to fatten the pocketbooks of friends and family. Iraqi oil is just too tempting to turn loose -- so onward and upward, here we come. Move out Saddam, Dumbya has arrived. * * * Gone and definitely forgotten -- if you carried a gun or wore a uniform in service of your country, you can forget any promises made to you by Bush. Having worked at a VA Hospital, I can attest that VA health care, at its best, leaves a lot to be desired. But, it is appalling that civilian chickenhawks in Washington want to further reduce the benefits that were promised to the men and women who diligently and faithfully served their country. It is unbelievable how easily the sacrifices are forgotten. * * * The only thing that can be "trusted" at CNN is that they are the consummate extension of the Office of Disinformation. Led by such tabloid anchors as Paula Zahn, CNN now represents the age old slogan, NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS. They put a lot of effort into promoting the Bush agenda and avoiding the truth. Compared to CNN's production of the War in Iraq, FOX NEWS looks "fair and balanced." * * * April 8, 2003 We now know that "compassionate conservative" was indeed a campaign slogan for a man who is neither compassionate nor conservative. His underlying motivations of vengeance and greed have been exposed through his determination to "get" Saddam no matter who may be in the way. It shows just how ruthless and unsympathetic he can be of civilian casualties in order to achieve his goals. It is a sad day for the whole world when innocent children are so callously considered "collateral damage." God help us all. * * * Norm Coleman cannot even come close to being the man that Paul Wellstone was. Coleman is without a doubt the lowest of vermin when he attempts to justify his personal existence by debasing the dead. There is something to be said for this kind of self promoting bull, but it is unprintable. Coleman's his less than human display is unworthy of even a pornographic definition. Norm Coleman is despicable, and he certainly has joined the right party with his kind of sleaze and slime. * * * Now we know how this administration treats the "free press" when they report the truth: bomb them, kill them, and shut them up for good. If you aren't INBED with the Bush administration, you will most certainly are IN PERIL. If you aren't cheerleading with the mainstream media and overlooking the senseless and needless atrocities, then you will be dealt with and become "collateral damage." A warning shot has been fired -- tell the truth, you might die. Remember, under the current resident-in-thief, anything is possible. * * * It's appalling that the pro-war chickenhawks say there have been ONLY a few civilian casualties. Since when has the death or maiming of innocent children been prefaced with the word ONLY? I can't help but wonder how they'd feel if it was ONLY their children? Anyone who so callously passes off the death of innocent human beings must have a place in hell designed ONLY for the likes of them. * * * April 7, 2003 My God, how can a mother ignore man's inhumanity to man, avoiding the reality of the death of innocent little children caused by a needless war? To contend that these "details, cloud her beautiful mind" is callous and inhumane and symptomatic of an old woman who chooses to avoid the truth. How like this family to pretend it isn't happening in order to justify the devastation. * * * Hooray for Senator John Kerry! Finally, a Democrat with the cajones to say it like it is -- WE NEED A REGIME CHANGE! America desperately needs to return to Democracy and eliminate the oppressive form of governance we're enduring under the Bushies. The Bush administration invaded the executive branch of government, aided and abetted by the judicial branch, and have successfully overpowered the legislative branch. In a third world country this is known as a coup. There are those of us who really do patriotically appreciate a true American Hero. Many thanks to Senator Kerry for his bravery -- in the face of extreme danger -- again, defending our country and the ideals for which we stand. * * * For all those who believed that our problems would end with the destruction of the Iraqi regime -- this administration has only just begun. Already we are hearing pointed warnings going out to Syria, Iran, and North Korea. The Saudis and Egyptians have been put on notice as well. The Bush administration will not stop until there is an all out, full-fledged World War. The question for this administration is: Are you promoting democracy and peace or Armageddon? I am again reminded of the line in Hunt for Red October: "You fool, you have killed us!" | |||||
