ABOUT

A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). We'll collect a week's worth here and then archive them. Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons.

March 28, 2003

While the Bush administration is thumping chests and repeatedly telling the world "we will prevail," they are now saying they aren't sure how long it will take. The longer it takes, the more people will die! It is needless death and destruction because. To all those who have faith in this moron, you are as crazy as he is, and war is not the answer.

When experience and knowledge becomes antiquated, it's time to move on. Donald Rumsfeld has overstayed his time; his ideas and experience are outdated, dangerous, and ridiculous. The troops, our sons and daughters who were sent to war by Bush and Rumsfeld, should not be part of a game played by the civilian suits in Washington. Prayers will not bring back those beloved members of their families, no matter how much those prayers might be appreciated. It takes an unbelievable arrogance to think that hugs and condolences are a replacement for those we love. But, this is the Bush administration, and they believe themselves blessed.

WHAT AN UNBELIEVABLE CROCK! Paula Zahn is the most callous individual I have ever seen. She will do anything to further her cause, including the promotion of war in Iraq. Ms. Zahn interviewed a mother who opposes the war and whose son is fighting in Iraq. Ms. Zahn, unable to verbally intimidate the mother, cut away to a live feed of bombs being dropped in Iraq. This, my friends, is the conservative way, and to say it is despicable would be an understatement.

Given the lies, forgeries, and false evidence supplied by the Bush administration to garner support for a revengeful war, and the lies told to the American people regarding domestic issues, no one can trust their word on anything. Just remember, they said, "We had no warnings of 9-11" -- the biggest lie of all! The Congress of the United States should be investigating the domestic issues and it is imperative the United Nations inspectors be allowed in Iraq to verify any discoveries of WMD.

So Connie Chung is gone from CNN, and Talk Back Live gone too. Hmmm, seems to me they need to clean out that crowd doing all that giggling, sniping, and carping on American Morning and get back to delivering the news. That is, if they want to return the cable channel to #1! For those who want to view a tabloid news channel, they can tune into FOX! Hopefully Ted Turner will return CNN to the once revered and respected source of news it was, instead of the right-wing propaganda machine it has become!

The blow hard AWOLer in chief stood in front of military troops today and say "WE"! Did I notice an applause prompter standing in the crowd dressed in a pink blouse designed to look like part of the audience? How many "news" anchors told the general public this was an "invitation only" crowd. America WAKE UP! The Iraqis aren't the only ones who are suffering psychological warfare -- it's happening right here in America. There is a coordinated effort to spook you, fool you, and generally give you info that's bull, conducted from the White House Office of Disinformation and in league with mainstream media. Talk about Third World countries without a voice, we have arrived!

I can empathize with the Vet's against war! When working the ER I thought, when an especially horrendous accident came through the doors, that if teenagers could spend one busy night in the ER seeing first hand the consequences of poor choices, the world would be a safer place for them to grow up. Our vets, who have witnessed the horrors of war first hand, know that war is not the answer and that there has to be a better solution.

If a couple of countries got together and decided that the U.S. was an imminent threat to them, now or in the future, because America has WMD, would they be justified in attacking us? Imagine if more than a couple of countries came to that conclusion. The mentality of preemption has placed us in danger of more than just terrorist attacks. If America continues the bullying policies practiced by this administration, and enough people in other countries see us as a threat, we could be in for more trouble than anyone could imagine. World War Three, conducted in the manner of the attack on Iraq, would most certainly annihilate the planet earth.

The arrogance of this administration has created a hornet's nest for our military. Assuming the Iraqi people and the Iraqi army would welcome an invasion with song, flowers, and white flags, this administration has given the enemy a sure fire way to attack our troops from the rear. So much for strategy and an Iraqi welcome! My God, when will Dumbya realize that others won't always do what he wants? Bribery, money, coercion, and "shock and awe" may be the things he would succumb to, but, sadly for our troops, not everyone is as inclined. It may surprise Dumbya to find out, there are those who, like patriotic Americans, will fight to the death to protect their homeland from invasion.

If this is changing the tone in Washington, please, dear God, send this madman back to Texas. We have not had a peaceful moment since Bush burst on the scene. I most certainly would prefer a few sex scandals, polls, and focus groups to where we, as a country, are now. Is everlasting war and all those defense contracts worth all the money the Repugs spent to steal the presidency?

A horrific theory -- The Russians, at the height of their strength, marched into Afghanistan and were able, in short order, to take over some of the major cities. The Afghanis, realizing they could not defeat the mighty Russian Army on their terms, began an assault they could handle -- terrorism. They attacked the Russians one at a time. The Arabs had some help from the US, but the fighting was done on their own. 15 years later, with thousands of young Russian causalities, the Russians marched out of Afghanistan. I hesitate to ponder if perhaps the Iraqis have the same kind of warfare in mind, only this time Iraq will receive support from every major terrorist organization worldwide. Will America watch our youth get picked off one at a time? Is this Bush war worth the lives of our children?

March 24, 2003

Dear Dick Cheney, "You're either with us or you're against us!" Doing business with countries that harbor terrorism is morally wrong. Time for people like you to step up to the plate of patriotism and admit you should not do business with those who would do us harm. We have become that which we are fighting: a few greedy men who consider themselves above the law, where money is more important than moral decency. Exactly how patriotic did you feel when you found ways to make $73m in Iraq while you were CEO of Halliburton?

Paula Zahn's coverage of the onslaught on Iraq known as "Shock and Awe" is nothing short of orgiastic. She cannot possibly be considered a responsible newscaster. Her diatribe and enthusiastic support of death and destruction shows that she is an extension of the current administration. CNN certainly made a big mistake scooping up FOX News rejects. It's sad to say that the likes of this woman representing CNN equals the sleaziest form of tabloid minutia we have ever witnessed.

* * *

We are now witness to that which we had hoped would never happen -- the young men and women of America dying, injured, and captured. It is with profound sorrow and regret that this is occurring to our sons and daughters, husbands and wives. The reality of war is overwhelmingly horrendous. With a heavy heart and tears of sorrow, I pray for peace.
