ABOUT

A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). We'll collect a week's worth here and then archive them. Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons.

February 28, 2003

What do you get when two spoiled brats of privileged parents have a tantrum? A POSSIBLE NUCLEAR WAR! Kim Jong Il and GW Bush are a dangerous combo. Neither of these guys have ever heard the word no, and neither will be willing to say uncle! The people of this world will be the ones to suffer the folly of fools. Our lives hang in the balance between two childish personalities posing as men.

* * *

It saddened me to read, in the AJC, a recount written by a woman from a metro Atlanta county who stood with a sign of protest along the Bush route to a school in Atlanta. Her neighbors, both men and women, young and old, screamed at her, spit on her, and debased her character, across the street from her church. Her rights as an American were compromised in an ugly way. Our country, thanks to Bush, has become "my way or the highway." It saddens me to know that Osama bin Laden has been successful in his quest to annihilate America's freedoms, aided by those who profess to love their country, but who willingly intimidate friends and neighbors who speak freely and express their opinion against a questionable war.

* * *

Bushies who say we should attack Iraq because "[Saddam] gassed and murdered innocent people in Iraq" fail to mention that attacking Iraq will murder innocent people in Iraq. They also don't mention that the direct result of a U.S. "shock and awe" campaign will be dead innocent Iraqi people. Somehow murdering innocent people to save them from murder defies logic. However, these conservative who push war are morons and we can't expect morons to be logical.

Into the looking glass and down into the land of fairy tales. Dumbya is now reading Fairy Tales to the American people -- we will swoop into Iraq bringing food packets and good will along with the guns and ammo and the Iraqi people will forever be happy! Where in God's name does he come up with this childish prattle he calls a plan? Obviously, in Never Never Land, where the hobgoblins are always thwarted and Mother Goose rules. It should not be surprising that a man with the IQ of George W. Bush would believe it all so simple and Americans so gullible!

* * *

George W. Bush is cutting every program in America that benefits the American people so he can direct funds to programs that benefit his friends and family. Oil and the Defense industry profits will be paid for by your tax dollars. Out of the pockets of the poor, into the pockets of millionaires, all in the name of a war that is not necessary for national security. This is the way of the Bushes -- profit on the backs of the working class. They've done it before and they will keep on doing it as long as the American public allows this illegitimate moron to rob us blind.

* * *

So the people in Iraq didn't really have the right to elect their leader! Hmmm, I wonder how the people in America feel every time this administration uses that angle to condemn Saddam? When an election is rigged there is no difference in it's outcome, an illegitimate dictator holds office. In Iraq it's the Republican Guard, in America it's the Repuglican Supreme Court.

* * *

If it weren't so ominous for our country, it would be comical to watch mainstream media skirt and dance around the news of Bush's decline in the latest polls. I wonder what Rove has cooked up to boost his boss this time? God help us all.

* * *

If we were so triumphant in Afghanistan, why have we not heard more stories about how wonderful life is now that the Taliban has been eliminated? Where are the mainstream media reports about reconstruction and the successes? Why are we not hearing how much better life is now that democracy prevails? Is it possible that conquering brings a myriad of problems that democracy cannot solve?

February 26, 2003

The people of the world are protesting arrogance, bullies, injustice, and senseless killing. It isn't that they don't recognize evil, they do, and by protesting they are stating that evil comes in many different forms and must be stopped! Ordinary people the world over are telling their leaders they expect more from them than war, that they want their leaders to do what they have been elected to do, and they expect diplomatic solutions for dilemmas, not war.

* * *

Recent statements made by right wing wackos -- "the public will support the president once the war begins" -- is blow hard optimism! Once the public sees the body bags arriving and hears of the death and destruction of innocents, there will be an even bigger groundswell of protests than we've recently seen. Americans expect more than war and destruction from their leaders. Americans expect their leaders to be statesmen, not sociopaths hell bent on personal gain.

* * *

Credibility? Bush has more than a credibility problem! He refused to divulge a questionable past that included DUI and being AWOL his last year in the National Guard. He stole the election with the help of little bro' Jebbie. He plunged the country into recession in order to effect a tax-cut payback. He withdrew this country from major treaties, turned his back on the problems in the middle-east, falsely blamed Clinton for a myriad of problems, and, most egregiously, ignored the warnings of a terrorist attack which resulted in 9-11! Now he says trust him? No, a liar cannot be trusted, no matter how it's spun. To trust him to wage war is folly.

February 25, 2003

Richard Perle said, "Excuse me, the lesson of September 11 was that you shouldn't have been voting on September 12 because we should have acted against al-Qaeda before that. We saw the camps. We heard the communications. We knew that they were planning additional acts of terror as they had undertaken previous acts of terror. And we waited. We failed to take action in a timely manner and the congressman is now saying that we have to wait." Excerpts from an interview on Meet the Press! There you have it, an admission of failure. Perhaps the commission to investigate 9-11 should talk to Mr. Perle.

* * *

The deportation of Bernadette Devlin McAliskey is a good example of how this new Patriot Act works. It does not stop at detaining terrorists -- it stops anyone who may wish to exercise their rights to speak freely in a democratic society and it stops those who do not agree with the current administration and their insane policies. This time it was a woman from Ireland, next time it could be you or your neighbor. The administration is not arresting a whole lot of terrorists, but they darn sure are good at arresting dissent. This is the way of the Bushes and the GOP -- my way or the highway -- and it will apply to anyone and everyone who does not suck up to Dumbya.

* * *

After two years of watching the moron, most intelligent people realize this childish excuse for a man doesn't have what it takes. For those with a religious persuasion, he cannot talk the talk, much less walk the walk. For God's sake, Dumbya can't even eat a pretzel and watch TV. His value to America is limited due to his lack of intelligence. Therefore, I submit it's time to impeach the thief, before he endangers the entire world with an aggressive war that will turn our country into exactly what he is condemning.

* * *

If the Bush plan for Iraq resembles the Bush plan in America, then Democracy will be forgotten. Once they have conquered Iraq, the Bushies will most certainly take advantage of the money to be made in the rich oil fields. Liberation and democracy are the same slogans he used to take over the US and subsequently dismantle our democracy. He parrots what he believes people want to hear in order to make a personal profit. Indeed he is on a mission, and that mission is to control the oil in Iraq.

February 24, 2003

If we are to believe that Osama bin Laden and the terrorists do not like our way of life and that is why they attack us, then we must certainly understand that those who systematically dismantle democracy by eliminating our civil rights, civil liberties, and the rule of law, are generals in Al Qaeda's army! Our economy is in the pits, the environment is compromised, our foreign policy is aggressive, democracy questionable, and those to blame are the current administration and the GOP. Just who is really responsible for dismantling our way of life?

* * *

The following quote is from Independent.co.uk in an article by Rupert Cornwell in Washington: "Karl Rove, the key adviser plotting Bush's re-election campaign next year, argues that in 2000, four million evangelical Christians, all natural Bush supporters, did not bother to go to the polls. Energising this base and persuading even one million of them to do so could make all the difference for a President who lost the popular vote last time." Is this the reason for the Bush piety -- votes? Is his religious conversion the same as that of Texas cowboy rancher -- a farce to garner votes for a second term?

* * *

When you read headlines like, "US Threatens to Cancel Turkey's Military Aid," it tells you where the "bully" reputation comes from and why the rest of the world doesn't like us. Of course, this is business as usual from those who use coercive bribes and threats to build coalitions. There is a "my way or the highway" mentality running the country and that does not do much for diplomacy. While there are those in America who seem to think this is the way to get things done, we can see from the reaction of other countries, when they say no, that this is the kind of bull that does not effect an equitable outcome. Dumbya definitely cannot lead!
