ABOUT

A collection of insightful ruminations, reflections, and rants on the events of the day (with the exception of the weekend). We'll collect a week's worth here and then archive them. Come visit each weekday to see what's pushing Barbara's buttons.

Tommy Thompson's introduction of Bush, at today's AIDS grant press conference, really pissed me off. He said the grant had been made from the generosity of Bush's heart -- nothing about the American people and nothing about it being taxpayer money! AIDS is a disease that affects us all and is indeed horrific (having personally taken care of people in the last stages of this disease, I know how awful it is). Everything that can be done to eradicate it from the face of the earth should be done, and should have been started long long ago! It was disgusting to watch Bush, that poor excuse for a human being, stand there and think he, and he alone, was responsible for this gift from the people of the United States.

* * *

Given the history of the United States, it is neither patriotic nor American to support a pre-emptive war on another nation and its innocent civilians who will suffer and die., especially when a large percent of those civilians are children! Americans have found reason to wage war in defense of our country when we are threatened. Americans have united in patriotic defense of democracy, but Americans have never knowingly supported war for revenge, greed, and dominance. Patriots are those who support debate and diplomacy. Patriots are those who believe that life, liberty, and fairness are the components of freedom.

* * *

Notice how the White House, the GOP, and the right wing systematically trash everyone who disagrees with the Bush policy of waging pre-emptive war in Iraq? After observing what they did to John McCain in South Carolina, Al Gore everywhere, and the Miami-Dade elections commission, I don't trust anything they say or do. In fact, I believe those who are brave enough to oppose them.

* * *

The State of the Union under Bush really sucks! Domestically we have no economy, and our well being is being undermined on a daily basis by Bush and the current administration. We no longer have stature in the world arena, unless of course bullying is worthy of mention, and we are on the verge of a war that will kill tens of thousands of innocent people, as well as young American military men and women. Bush's war will also expose this nation and the American people to future terrorist attacks. The SPEECH was a staged production, delivered by an unconvincing ham pretending to be a president. No reality, no substance, no truth, and certainly no evidence!

* * *

Err, yeah, sure, it was a bold speech, full of emotion, focused, "Distinguished citizens"? He couldn't even get the first sentence right -- shouldn't it have been Distinguished guests? Maybe that's why he didn't introduce the guests or his wife for that matter. History, if there is one, will record this segment as THE BOLDEST MORON OF ALL TIMES!

An excerpt from the Yahoo! News article, Bush gets resistance on Medicare Plan: "The White House invited a crowd of health care workers and business leaders, ensuring a raucously supportive crowd." Are his smoke and mirrors tactics finally being exposed? Is someone else recognizing how he accomplishes an accepting "grassroots" image? "Invitation Only" is the only way he gets approval. Anyone with sense does not approve of him or his policies.

As I listen to Dick Cheney, I think it really takes audacity for a man to lecture Americans about Iraq, when he profited from doing business with Iraq. This man, who made millions rebuilding Iraqi infrastructure, now tells us Iraq is evil. While that may be true, it is also true that it is evil to do business with evil.

* * *

Senior citizens, it's time to make your voices heard. It's time to remind Bush and his cohorts you won't silently allow them to take away what you worked so hard to achieve. It's time to remind these arrogant blowhards that seniors are not pushovers, seniors are citizens who have a lifetime of wisdom and are a force, that when united, can accomplish whatever they make up their minds to do! Stop the GOP's dream of eliminating Medicare and Social Security.

* * *

Dumbya's bungling inexperience is a problem for the United States! His arrogant bravado is offensive. His lack of intelligence is reprehensible. He is a puppet without strings, and an embarrassment to us all. Most of all, his irresponsibility is dangerous.

Psychological innuendo designed for a specific purpose -- "the Iraqi's have penetrated the Inspection Team in Iraq!" CNN seems to think if they repeat that phrase often enough, Americans will believe it and it will undermine the effectiveness and credibility of the U.N. Inspection teams. Somehow it seems that CNN is interested in more than ratings. Propaganda without support is the content of their broadcasts these days. Has CNN become the voice for the Office of Disinformation? Who and what are they playing to and why?

* * *

If you watched "THE SPEECH" last night hoping for answers, Jr. only repeated what he's said over and over again -- nothing new, nothing convincing, nothing of substance -- just scaring the bejeezus out of America, ad nauseum. It seems that the only way to boost his poll numbers and cover up what's happening to the economy is to instill terror in us all by pulling Iraq, Saddam, and all that's evil in the world out of Dumbya's pocket of horrors. I resent the pallor of fear Dumbya uses for personal gain. I resent the inability of this administration to solve our domestic problems. I resent the empty promises and the lies he tells the American people. I resent the fact that my vote was stolen and that an illegitimate demagogue is making such a mess of a once proud nation.

* * *

Comedy National News, otherwise known as CNN, is doing their best this morning to paint a positive picture of Dumbya. Paula Zahn is working overtime cheering her guy on to war. Her bias is so obvious it makes objective journalism an oxymoron. Come to think of it, Dumbya and all those who exhalt him are morons and it shows.

Obviously, the GOP believes we are all as dense as their leader. This AM I heard the dittoheads on mainstream media repeat the mantra, "What are we gonna do, wait around for 200 to 300 years for the inspectors to discover Iraqi's WMD?" Whoever came up with this justification to deny the UN inspectors time for discovery is out to lunch! My answer to those who choose to repeat such drivel is: Yes, I'm willing to wait for as long as it takes, because that means we will have peace and those who believe that life is more important than greed and oil will have won the battle.

* * *

Poppy tells us: "No president wants war, no president wants to send someone's sons and daughters to die, it's the worst decision a president has to make"! Now we all know Poppy found a safe haven for his own son in the National Guard and he sent America's sons and daughters into war. Frankly, I'm sick of this family who have no problem sending our children to war, while pretending remorse and protecting their own. It's sickening.

* * *

I continue to pray that I am WRONG, but as the drumbeat from the White House grows ever louder, I fear that war is inevitable. I weep for the lives, full of hope and expectation, that will be lost, for the children who will lose their mother or father, for the wives and husbands who will lose those with whom they had planned a future, for our sons and daughters, and for this country that once believed peace was the only way. I also weep for the leaders who believe that war is peace, because their rush to cause death proves they have no understanding of the reality of war.

* * *

Whatever credibility Bob Woodward gained from his stellar reporting on Richard Nixon, it has eroded into the ridiculous because of his attempts to bolster Dumbya's image. Woodward has become as laughable as Dumbya. It's sad to watch the decline of a once honest and objective journalist.

Israel's hopes for peace died when Bill Clinton left office. Bush and "his" administration decided to leave the concerned parties to their own devices, which was a wrong move, the results of which are terrorism on innocents, violence begetting violence and no peace for either side. President Clinton's concern for human life was his motivation. His attempts to resolve the conflict were far better than the Bush alternative of doing nothing. The death toll rises higher each and everyday while Jr. idles in his ignorance.

* * *

If Repuglicans are so confident in their method of governance, tell me why it is that under Repuglican leadership our economy is always in the pits and always at war, and the rest of the world ridicules American policy? Sooner or later someone, somewhere will recognize that right wing politics spells economic disaster and environmental chaos for the United States, and that American lives are lost because the Repugs have not mastered the art of diplomacy. The Repuglican way is truly the road to madness.

* * *

As we approach the momentous occasion of the this year's State of the Union address, we pause to wonder what "catchphrase" the DimSon will use that will further the goals of terrorists worldwide? He and his cronies may consider Dumbya's lack of intelligence a badge of honor, but it has caused nothing but blunder for America. His arrogance far outweighs his aptitude. America and the world suffer his foolishness.

* * *

Like son, like father. Every time I hear the laments of the wingnuts regarding President Clinton speaking out, I get tickled. The only reason George H. W. Bush did not comment when Clinton was in office was because he did not have the intellectual capacity to understand what Clinton was doing for the people of this country. In the Bush world, the rich come first. They do not realize that what is done for the least of us, benefits all of us!
