Is There a Reporter in the House? AOL/Time Warner/CNN Campaign Against Democrat Alex Sanders For Senate

A BUZZFLASH READER COMMENTARY

I am a SC registered voter who received a mailing from "Hunting and Shooting Sports Heritage Foundation" that listed its Website as www.fieldandstream.com/votersguide. The pamphlet states the following concerning Judge Alex Sanders: "Some people will say anything to get elected…. Alex Sanders wants you to believe he supports your rights, but the record says otherwise…. Alex Sanders couldn't care less about your gun rights and hunting heritage. His attitude not only threatens your rights, but also jeopardizes a sporting tradition that is worth 21, 000 jobs and $78 million dollars in tax revenues in South Carolina…Why would Alex Sanders destroy these jobs and the hunting tradition that created them".

The information in this pamphlet is not only partisan, it is completely false. Sanders, a Democrat, is an avid hunter and an NRA member.

A check of the above Website reveals that "Field and Stream" has endorsed Sanders opponent, Republican Lindsey Graham. Further investigation reveals that F&S is owned by Time, Inc., which is in turn, owned by AOL/Time/Warner. Based upon these facts, I have the following questions:

Has AOL/Time/Warner-a financially troubled company-informed its shareholders that it is using their money to intervene on behalf of a Republican in a Senate race and that it is mailing out political pamphlets?

Has the money that has been expended by AOL/Time/Warner to campaign for Graham been declared as an "in kind" campaign donation?

What is the effect on CNN's (and Time magazine's) appearance of impartiality when its parent company is mailing out political pamphlets and endorsing specific candidates?

Does this mailing signify (as can be presumed) that AOL/Time/Warner, CNN, and Time Magazine oppose responsible gun laws?

Is the Board of Directors of AOL/Time/Warner even aware of what its wholly owned magazine, "Field and Stream" is doing?

Given the above facts, does AOL/Time/Warner (and CNN and Time Magazine) have the duty to make these facts public and additionally, send a new pamphlet to all SC voters correcting the false information in the original mailing?

I know that somewhere out there in the BuzzFlash readership is a reporter who could follow up on these questions.
