Join the Call for Leadership not Partisanship in the U.S. Senate
This week Democrats are celebrating the year anniversary of Senator Daschle as Senate Majority Leader. Instead of celebrating, they should focus on the lack of Senate leadership on much of America's agenda. Important issues like confirming qualified federal judges, providing terrorism insurance and passing a budget that funds America's needs have become hostage to partisanship.
As Senate Majority Leader, Daschle has a 23.8% job performance rating based on the Senate's inability to advance needed legislation that will help the American people. President Bush and House and Senate Republicans are committed to leadership on the important issues facing the American people. House Republicans have passed many parts of that agenda. In the Senate, these important priorities for the American people are stalled.
Progress on President Bush's agenda won't happen until we have a united Republican majority in the Senate! Help regain the Senate majority by:
President Bush Seeks to Fulfill America's Promise of Health Security for Seniors
America is blessed with the greatest healthcare system in the world. We lead the world in providing quality healthcare through both private and public programs. Medicare, like Social Security, is one of America's great public programs, but Medicare has not kept up with the advances in the medical community. It's time to modernize Medicare to meet the needs of today's seniors and future seniors.
Today, millions of Medicare recipients do not have access to lifesaving treatments and programs that are only available through Medicare's private plans. Every senior should have access to these private plans. Also, many seniors also do not have prescription drug coverage. Any modernization of Medicare will include prescription drug coverage for all seniors.
President Bush recognizes the need for quality healthcare for Americans seniors and has laid out a framework for bipartisan Medicare reform that includes:
The Medicare program today is too costly for seniors, and it does not provide for the choices that many of our seniors need and want in their medical coverage. Medicare must be brought into the 21st Century. Our seniors cannot afford any delay. The time to improve Medicare is now by offering greater choice and flexibility for America's seniors.
