It's Time For A Commission by Linda Kekumu May 18, 2002 Dear BuzzFlash, Bush
told Republicans in a closed-door meeting on Capitol Hill that "there
is a sniff of politics in the air" in the fact Democrats were attacking
him on the issue, sources familiar with his remarks said. In
a speech at the New York state Conservative Party's annual dinner, Cheney
warned Democrats "to not seek political advantage by making incendiary
suggestions ... that the White House had advance information that would
have prevented the tragic attacks of 9-11." So, this will be the official spin. Whenever any Democrat asks a question we will be called unpatriotic or accused of trying to politicize the tragedy. I really resent the fact that I have been lied to since September 11th. We were told, repeatedly, that there was no warning - none. I resent the fact that the threat was serious enough that Ashcroft had to be assigned private or government jets to fly him everywhere - even fishing - but the general public was not warned. I want to know why a FISA warrant was denied in the Moussaoui case. This was a definite change of policy as the Clinton Administration had never denied any FISA warrants. Who changed this policy and why was it changed? Given the fact that Bush was briefed on the possibility of a hijacking, why did he not cancel his vacation and return to Washington to go to work for the American people? We are now being told that the threat was not specific, it didn't spell out the details. In other words it wasn't an invitation with dates and times, so it was ok to just let it slip? I'm not sure what the justification is. It seems that because it was "just" a terrorist threat to hijack an airplane that didn't warrant any further action. Hmmm, well why not? Isn't one plane full of Americans enough? We are dealing with human life here and it seems to me that even if the threat involved one person that should be enough to get some kind of action. Additionally,
the fact that he was briefed certainly helps to explain his reactions
on the morning of September 11th. They were only expecting it to be one
plane, so it was quite Both Bush and Cheney begged Daschle not to widen the investigation, to keep it focused on just the intelligence. In light of today's revelation one must wonder what else is being hidden? What are they afraid of? Are they afraid the American press might actually start reporting the news that has been reported in various other countries since that fateful day? Perhaps they are afraid the American people will find out about our "carpet of bombs" threat? It seems to me there were huge failings both before September 11th and on that day with regards to the FBI, CIA, FAA, FEMA and our military. It is hard to imagine that all of these agencies all failed all at the same time but that is what we are being asked to believe. It
is time for a commission to be set up so we can have our questions answered. * * * |
