Emails With Ailes, Part Seven

May 1, 2002

This was my second letter to him, and again I added the Rush Limbaugh thing at the end to keep him guessing.

Dear Roger,

I recently e-mailed you asking if you were involved with the Willie Horton adds during the 1988 campaign. You answered it was not you, and you didn't know who. You know that answer is not totally honest. You were the Bush media advisor in 1988 when the "Revolving Doors" add was produced, weren't you? You were the former boss of Larry McCarthy, the GOP consultant working for the National Security PAC, who put Willie Hortons Picture on the air, weren't you? You were in constant contact with David Carmen, Floyd Brown, David Bossie, Jessie Rayford, and of course that great departed Campaign Manager, Lee Atwater. I read a quote from you in Time Magazine which said, " The only question is whether we depict Willie Horton with a knife in his hand or not." Were you miss-quoted? Your friend McCarthy said the photo of Horton used in the add was " every suburban mother's greatest fear", didn't he? Why are you so shy about your great accomplishment? Is it because now you are running a mainstream news organization? So what. Tell it like it is/was!! Take credit where credit is due! Mr. Murdoch should have put someone with personnel integrity in charge, like Rush Limbaugh!!!

This was Roger's reply to my second letter. I think I got under his skin a little, don't you? He sounds frantically defensive to me.

Only people like you who want to stir up racism so you'll feel good about yourself. I have corrections from every major publisher including the NY times AP, UPI etc.etc after massive investigation found I HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH A Willie hORTON AD. Even the fEDERAL ELECTION COMMISSION CLEARED ME. Why? Because I had nothing to do with it. That would be a legal feeral violation. If you'd like to charge me with that I'll see you in court and I'll give the money I win fromou to charity. Your facts are all mixed up and most of what you say is not fact. Stop thinking Willie is a victim. He went to a gas station, stabbed a sixteen year old boy 19 times, sexually mutilated him and stuffed him in a garbage can. He raped a woman in front of her fiancee and then cut him up. Those are the victims. I don't think of Willie as highly as you do but that doesn't mean I did the commercial but I'd love to have you try to prove it. The campaign did do a revolving door commercial which neither mentioned nor showed Mr. Horton. A simple apology will do or a legal fight....be my guest.

This was my third letter to him, pressing him on his quotes, and prior e-mail statements, etc

Golly Roger, Don't be so defensive! I never saw a retraction by Time magazine regarding your quote. Is that quote from you in 1988 accurate or not? I did see that you were not cleared by the FCC, only that the investigation was dropped. Maybe you would be kind enough to point me to the articles and investigations that cleared you. Never being charged is not the same as being cleared. It just was never thoroughly investigated because of your friends in the White House. It is you and your friends, who I mentioned, that stir up racism when it is politically profitable. That is the worst sort wouldn't you agree? I agree with you Willie Horton was not a victim, he was a scumbag criminal that did terrible things and deserved the maximum punishment. I will not apologize for exercising my right of free speech, and have no interest in suing you. I'd hate to see all your friends have to purjure themselves, even if it was only a civil suit.

So I guess it was all just one big coincidence that your "Revolving Door" ad just happened to mesh nicely with the NAPAC Willie Horton add, eh? Thanks for clearing that up for me! P.s You should see if you can get a Blackberry with Spellcheck on it. It would make you sound so much more intelligent.

This was his third reply. He doesn't answer my questions. He calls me names instead.

I don't take time to ck spelling for people like you. FEC not FCC look up the difference. A little research training will do you good. When I hear Willie Horton I think "criminal" when you hear it you think "black". You are a racist and I have no more time for you. Goodbye...go hate somebody else.

This was my forth letter to Roger. He didn't feel like taking about NSPAC anymore. Can You blame him??

People like me?? You don't even know me and you call me a racist hater? When I think of Willie Horton I think of monstrous criminal. I don't think in terms of color. However it is obvious you and NSPAC saw a Black Criminal rapist that would, in your cohorts terms be "every suburban mother's greatest fear." I'm sure you're aware that demographically speaking, SUBURBAN mothers are predominantly white. Why didn't he say ALL mothers? To include URBAN mothers. It was pure race baiting, and That's what I find highly objectionable. Sorry for the typo.

I do know the difference between the FEC (Federal Election Commission) and the FCC Federal Communication Commission. The FEC is the group that refused to investigate your collusion with the NSPAC, and the FCC is the group that oversees among other things, Rupert Murdoch's Fox station. That's why Rupert gave Newt Gingrich that 9 million dollar book deal, so he could get a bill passed which would assist Rupert in consolidating his broadcast empire.

Poor Newt, give up all that money or face ethic charges. That must have been harder for him than going after Clinton while having his own 22 year old mistress. Poor Newt, the price a simple hypocrite has to pay must seem a terrible burden.

This was Roger's fourth letter to me, thinking either he made a mistake in judging me, or a mistake in answering so rudely. So he tried to cover his butt. You be the judge.

I looked at my final note to you and decided it was a bit harsh regardless of my freedom of speech ao your attacks on me. I don't really know if you are a racist but I'm always suspicious of people who treat others diferently because of race etc. You see, I honestly don't care what color a killer is...I don't believe he should be let out of jail for a weekend pass. I view that as soft on crime. Think what you want about me,I'm much different than you think I am but I'm sure there are vast differences in our beliefs...welcome to America. In any case I apologize for jumping to a conclusion. Now I have a family and a job to tend to...all the best.

This was my last letter to him. You know he never did answer about that quote from Time Magazine!!! Just type in Roger Ailes on Google and check out the articles by "The Center For Responsive Politics" You'll find that quote and a whole lot more.

Keep up the good work BuzzFlash. Voters need to know when the Fox is in the hen house!!

Oh, I just answered your last e-mail which as you say "was a bit harsh." I don't think deep down you are a racist, I do think you are not above using race baiting tactics to win an election. It's as bad as Johnny Cochran playing the race card in the O.J. case. I'm color blind, but I do notice when race is manipulated.

You never answered my question about the Time Magazine quote, did you make it?
