Foundation Encourages Overthrow of Bush Admin; Condoleezza Rice Gives
Tacit Approval

I
know, you probably read the title to this commentary and thought I was
joking, or that it was mis-phrased. But I'm not, and it's not. It's all
true. In a recent story on NPR's All Things Considered that discussed
why a certain democratically elected leader deserved to be overthrown,
a spokesman for the Heritage Foundation had this to say:
"His
confrontational political style, and many of the actions that he's taken
to twist political institutions more to his liking, put him close to
the line of undemocratic behavior."
Speaking
about this very same leader, Bush's own advisor, Condoleezza Rice, said
this:
"....the
whole world is watching, and we hope he takes advantage of the situation
to right his own ship, which has frankly been moving in the wrong direction
for quite some time."
Confrontational?
Institution-twisting? Wrong direction? Sounds like Bush, Bush and more
Bush, to me.
Of course, if you've been reading the news lately, you probably realize
that in fact, the Heritage Foundation rep and Condoleezza were both talking
about recently ousted and restored Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez. Any
Freeper reading this is probably having a hissy fit right about now and
screaming that I've taken the quotes out of context.
When
in fact, I haven't taken them out of context at all.
Because,
what it boils down to is that a democratically elected leader was
recently removed from office by a military coup. By their own statements,
Rice and the Heritage Foundation came out in support of that effort. Now,
stick the name of any other world leader into their quotes, and you have
a glimpse into the real Bush doctrine. If you don't want to play by their
rules -- forget that you've been elected by your own people, forget any
concept of national sovereignty -- they will remove you, or aid those
who did.
So,
with that in mind, and also knowing that the Heritage Foundation is all
about fairness and would never apply a double standard, they must also
be endorsing an overthrow of the Bush junta. After all, according to their
standards, Bush is even more pernicious. Not only is he all things Chavez
(confrontational, institution-twisting, and wrong-headed), but he wasn't
even democratically elected.
Sounds
like a coup's in the works, if you ask me. What do you think?
