Enron and The Gramms

January 25, 2002

Buzz, thanks again for leading the truth squad against millionaire media babble and spin. Smoking gun on Enron? More like a smoldering arsenal! Ronald Reagan always said, If you want more of something, subsidize it. If you want less of it, tax it. Phil Gramm, fleeing politics to avoid Enrongate, likes to repeat Reagan's quote above. Look at Sen. Phil "Enron" Gramm and his wife Wendy now:

Gramm defends wife on Enron
Couple lost $600,000, he says; she's been on board's audit panel

How soon they forget! The Clintons lost money on Whitewater. That didn't stop Gramm and the right wing witch hunt squad from wrecking our system trying to get President Clinton.

Now the Republicans have changed everything 100%. Suddenly losing money is a perfect defense. Suddenly, they're ignoring Reagan's motto as they embrace Enronomics. No matter what they say, Republicans want more Enrongates -- look at what they won't tax but want us to subsidize!

Gramm's defense falls flat. Even if it's true he and his wife lost SOME money from Enron, so what? The Gramms got rich off Enron, despite any subsequent losses. They made out so well, Gramm says he will keep defending Republican policies on deregulation, accounting standards and retirement plans. This will allow even more $billion Enrongate disasters.

Gramm is typical of the unrepentant Enron Republicans. The Bush Republican "stimulus" package has a $250 Million tax-paid give away to Enron, which hasn't even paid any taxes four of the past five years. Rewarding bankrupt Enron is bankrupt policy which will only reward and stimulate crime, abuse and failure.
