| Beware the Voters' Ire A BUZZFLASH READER CONTRIBUTION Many of us who dub ourselves “Liberals” are not much happier with the Democratic Party than we are with the Republicans. In fact some of us believe that the Vichy-Democrats we see siding with Republicans on issues that we don’t support are worse than Republicans. At least Republicans stick together. These Vichy-Democrats stand for nothing. Many of us are very unhappy with the events we recently noted in Ohio. Paul Hackett, was a candidate for the Senate. Many of us supported him even though we did not live in Ohio. We were appalled at the treatment meted out to him. Even David Sirota, who I usually admire enormously, laid into Hackett and passed it all off as “Politics as usual.” Do they not “get” that politics as usual is exactly what we are against? Sorry, David, on this one you just reinforced the feeling we poor stupid folks out here have that he who has the most money wins. Politics as usual. And we don’t get to choose. It may well be that many of those voters you counted on to vote Democratic in Ohio will now just stay home in disgust. They won’t be able to stomach voting for DeWine but Sherrod Brown may not get their support. He may be a good man. But the people didn’t get to choose. That’s what is making them so angry. Republicans may be evil, nasty folks and we may loathe them. However, many of us don’t subscribe to the philosophy that “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.” Many of us see only enemies. That does not speak well for the voices of the Democratic Party. The only one who seems to just keep on keeping on is our old pal Howard Dean. Howard doesn’t change a whole lot. He frequently inserts his foot in his mouth right up to the ankle. He also always seems to just say what he really believes. In spite of all those in his own party who distance themselves, there is still a solid number out here who are overjoyed that there is a politician just tells the truth as he sees it. Feingold also seems to do what he thinks is right, not what the pundits think is wise. With Hackett, there might have been three. Pity. Marjorie L. Swanson A BUZZFLASH READER CONTRIBUTION |
