Nice
try, Herr Rove
A BUZZFLASH GUEST CONTRIBUTION
by Progressive Talk Radio host Doug Basham
On Wednesday evening, at a fund-raiser in Midtown for the Conservative Party
of New York State, Bush's brain, Karl Rove uttered the following
"Conservatives
saw the savagery of 9/11 in the attacks and prepared for war; liberals saw the
savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy
and understanding for our attackers." He went on to say, "Has there
ever been a more revealing moment this year? Let me just put this in fairly simple
terms: Al-Jazeera now broadcasts the words of Senator Durbin to the Mideast,
certainly putting our troops in greater danger. No more needs to be said about
the motives of liberals."
Quite frankly, I found the Democrats response to this blasphemous utterance,
while strong, inadequate. Presented with yet one more golden opportunity to expose
George W. Bush's war on an abstract noun for the colossal sham and misguided
adventure it is, one Democrat after the other stuck their chests out and proclaimed
they were just as "tough on terror" as George W. Bush.
NO! Defend a war on terror if you must, but expose the fallacies of attacking
entire nations as the preferred method of engaging in it.
While other writers can count the ways we did come together as a nation after
9-11, and how this is the time we need to "unite" (Hello, don't
you get it? These people don't want unity?!), let me offer what would've
been my preferred response.
How dare this smarmy, equally follically and ethically challenged Rove worm make
a statement like that?
Republicans like to paint themselves as the "morals and values - accept
responsibility" crowd. Quite frankly, I am sick to death of not only their
inability to ever demonstrate any of their alleged flagship attributes themselves,
I am equally fed up with their lack of being exposed for the flaming hypocrites
they are.
Firstly, no-one seems to have ascertained the real significance of what Rove
said, namely, that the man who so skillfully sold George W. Bush as a uniter
and not a divider, is a bonafide, card carrying divider himself. The "uniter
and divider" rhetoric Rove used to sell Bush had as much truth to it as
did the "weapons of mass destruction" rhetoric Rove used to sell Iraq.
Both were nothing more than flagrant, egregious, vote-assuring lies.
Secondly, forget what Senator Dick Durbin said. Our troops are in harm's
way because they were sent into a war that was predicated on nothing but lies.
Period. Long before Al-Jazeera broadcast Durbin's words, they broadcast
the fact that Iraq had been illegally attacked for no fathomable reason. Long
before they broadcast Durbin's words, they broadcast George W. Bush's
idiotic "Bring 'em on" abomination. I'm willing to bet there
have been several occasions whereby Al-Jazeera has broadcast reports wherein
regular Iraqi citizens resisting the occupation and rape of their country and
its natural resources have been referred to as "terrorists." There
have been many more memorable broadcasts to be sure, but I would submit just
one of these three have put our men in far more jeopardy than anything Dick Durbin
said.
Thirdly, while our attitude towards George W. Bush's "war on terror" has
certainly changed almost 4 years after 9-11; right after 9-11, not only did every
single American, citizen and politician alike give this little impostor a blank
check on anything he even made the remotest connection of "terrorism" to,
the entire world gave him a blank check. And then what happened? He blew it.
He blew it all. George W. Bush took every single morsel of good will and sympathy
this nation had accrued as a result of 9-11 and threw them in the trash cans
of hubris and dishonesty. Why? Because of his zealous aspirations. Because of
his desire to not waste his political capital like his father did and achieve
what he saw as a successful presidency - which he told ghost writer Mickey Herskowitz
entailed his becoming a war time president; a true commander in chief.
And even when the world smartened up to the sad reality of what a spurious little
liar George W. Bush truly was, as well as what a big sham his war on terrorism
really was, this nation -- again, citizen and politician alike -- either unable
or unwilling to see through his second war mongering pack of lies -- still went
along with the charade.
And once again, they not only let him invade another country, they encouraged
him to invade another country -- a nation that had nothing what so ever to do
with
his moronic war on terror. And the sanitized carnage of an unprovoked, unnecessary
war became prime time entertainment. "Hurry up with the popcorn, Flo, we
don't wanna' miss Shock and Awe!" (* Burp *)
And while many in this country are still playing the mindless Bush board game
of terror and terrorism -- some have likened it to a war mongering hybrid of
the
old "monopoly" board game -- more and more of us are waking up each
and every day.
So Karl, if you want to criticize us for no longer going along with the lies
you so carefully crafted for your incompetent Bush bumpkin so desperate for a "commander
in chief" legacy, so be it. We accept.
But for you to question what turns out to be our misguided leap of faith in your
boy in the immediate aftermath of 9-11, is not only beyond the pale for a skilled
republican liar (is there any other kind?), but it is a stretch even for a member
of the crowd who delights in creating their own reality. What you should be chastising
us for is ever believing in your boy Bush/you in the first place.
Face it Karl. You and your ilk's crimes are so heinous that even the purchasing
control and influence over the American mainstream media and the voting machines
can't forever blur or hide the seriousness of your crimes.
Quite frankly, we'd expect you to throw up some smoke screen to mask your
gross and criminal failure in Iraq. And you've dredged up all the standards. "We're
making progress"
"The recent attacks only show how desperate
the 'terrorists' are becoming"..."The world is safer." But
your Iraq crime has failed so miserably, that even without the assistance of
the cowardly mainstream media (can you say 'Downing Street Memo'?),
the comatose American public couldn't help but take notice.
One last thing, Karl.
We absolutely loved the sexual smoke screen you tried. Unfortunately, even
your new found alliance with porn star, air head and recent
republican convert, Mary Carrey, wasn't enough to sway the American people
from what they are increasingly learning is the truth about you, your boy,
your party, and your sinful, anti-Christian, criminal policies, both
abroad and here
at home. And just for curiosity sake, what'd you call that one, Karl? "If
you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with boobs?"
Nice try, Herr
Rove. Unfortunately for you however, the American public is starting to awaken
to the fact that the real boobs are in the White House.
